The Pit Room Houston Reviews from The Last Year
Horrible Experience
I need to share my experience at the Pit Room today not as much for the food quality, but for the unprofessional and rude treatment of the staff of this establishment. The place is self service and It is normal to have a queue of people waiting to be served. To my surprise, one of the employees ordered us to start queuing from outside the restaurant, and literally having to stand in the rain. I would have walked away right then, but my colleague insisted to wait and try the food Second surprise was when our turn came to order, and the server was short tempered and rude to us.. Literally, I felt like a homeless person waiting for food at the bread line.. As far as the meat itself, the beef was dry and chewy and the sausage and ribs were barely eatable. The dishes costed 62USD plus the PTSD.. That was the first and last time I tried this type of dinning maybe the bad attitude is tolerable for the local people but for a visitor trying Texan Barbecue it’s simply unacceptable food service.
Try it at least once and then move on
The Pit Room is worth a one-time experience. First, make sure you are in the restaurant and not sitting in the patio area waiting to be served. Once you get to the right spot, get in line to order your food. No one is coming to your table to take your order. Now that we got those particulars out of the way, the service is efficient. The food is what I would describe as comfort food lite. I ordered the 1/2 brisket. I found the brisket to be quite salty and somewhat chewy. The brisket did not remind me of how "mom use to make it". I could sense my blood pressure rising with the salty brisket and the equally salty side of okra. Well, I did finish the meal. However, I don't think I will be back. The line was out the door so there is a demand for the food just not my type of cuisine.
Came straight from the airport to eat some authentic Texas BBQ!
Upon first entering, the choices can seem overwhelming-- but the staff was knowledgeable and helpful, so the line to ordering moved along quickly. 3 of us shared beef ribs, 1 lb of pork ribs, and 3 sides: green beans, potato salad, and charro beans. It was all delicious. This huge meal, with fountain sodas and bread, came in at ~$35 per person. That’s not bad at all. The beef rib was perhaps a bit fatty, but it was very tasty. We enjoyed the pickle and fixings bar, especially a spicy BBQ sauce. Stopping here was a great choice!
Delicious Texas barbecue
If you love Texas BBQ this is a must eat for Houston. A bit of a line to get your food, but it moved along quickly. The food was worth the wait we had pulled pork tacos and brisket sandwich along with some burnt ends ( not on the menu, but on request). Everything was delicious.!!
Great BBQ
It was excellent! We had the brisket, pulled pork and beef sausage. It was all delicious! Even the sides were great! We had the Mac and cheese and coleslaw. We will be back. So yummy
The ribs were dry as the sands of the desert.
The food was not a conversation worthy of having, the sausages were good and the brisket was spot on. I don't recommend the sides unless you want to end up in the bathroom. It's overpriced BBQ done poorly.
The food was not that great in my opinion.
We waited in a long line outside for a while. They are kindof strict with their menu for substitutions. I will say the Mac n cheese was really good.

I was here many years ago and wasn't too impressed with it.
Then I kept seeing posted that they are one of the famous bbq in town so I decided to revisit. Again not too impressed. Food was ok but can't see this will be one of my favorite bbq place in town. Houston sure has too many bbq places. Price range is about the same with other places roughly $25 per person.
Fantastic food each and every time we go.
I love the pull pork sandwiches. Xxxxxxxx.
The food and service was great.
Multiple options to choose from. The line can get long but it moves quick!

I am from out of state and looked up the best bbq in Houston and this place came up in multiple searches. Coming up to the place I see they have parking available. It was very lively and busy. Great weather so out seating was preferred and there was plenty of seats available. The restaurant portion to order is tucked away to the left. A very nice wait staff offered to watch my luggage, my a table for me and walk me over to where I needed to order. Great friendly staff!! The line was very long but went quick so don't be discouraged. Very good brisket, ribs, sausage and sides! Def worth a try when in Houston!

You know that melt in your mouth, tender feeling you get when a slab of meat is cooked to perfection? Yeah. That's The Pit Room. My 11-year old doesn't normally eat anything outside of the same 10 items of food, but he definitely went in on the brisket. Needless to say, our family was a group of 16 and there wasn't a single thing left. The ribs, the brisket, the sausage, the Mac and cheese, the potato salad-- everything is superb. I went back a second time straight from the airport to take my friend who, for the very first time ever, flew all the way to Texas from Germany and of course what better way to initiate her trip than with a little Texan BBQ? I WILL BE BAAACCk!

We had BBQ breakfast tacos here one morning and they were quite good. Decent price, a good amount of toppings and amount of meat in each taco, and tasty BBQ meat.

I want to come back to Houston just to eat here! I'm not a Big Mac n cheese person but maybe that's bc I never had theirs before. I had four noodles left and actually put them in my to go box and then felt sad when I ate them and they were gone. The staff is great. They direct you where to go. The brisket was cooked perfect , the ribs and chicken were great. The green beans were great, seriously, trust me on this. If you're thinking about going here, it will not disappoint!
Dry and disappointing
Just finished lunch here and couldn't wait to get a review on this BBQ restaurant. Travelling from the UK and visiting various BBQ joints whilst here. This one was recommended by a local and I am shocked they can even class this as BBQ food. Food portions were tiny, a 3 meat platter barely sufficed one person. The sausage was okay, the pork rib was barely anymore than the bone. It was dry, cold and lacking any flavour. The turkey was much of the same. We topped the meal up with chicken tacos. The tortilla was rubbery, the chicken had no flavour and was crazy salty. Overall extremely disappointing and the worst meal we have had whilst in Texas.

Visiting Texas for spring break and sought out the best BBQ
Visiting Texas for spring break and sought out the best BBQ in Houston - the Pit Room did not disappoint! We tried a little of everything amongst our family of 4. Loved the brisket and pulled pork most. Charro beans had some good heat. My kids devoured the mac n cheese. We enjoyed the outdoor seating on the adjacent Patio at the Pit Room. Would come back here again!

The pit room is excellent! Very rugged, ice house type feel which is what you want out of a barbecue spot. Lots on the menu beyond just the typical meat plates. The green beans were outstanding, and it looks like their brisket tacos are a crowd favorite.

Nothing that is different then any other BBQ place in the same area. The food is decent. The staff does not help all that much. Basic "Oh look at our rustic trays" thing going on. Smoke and Rice Pinkertons Killens Roegels Are just a few that are better takes.!

This place was awesome! The back open air bar with wine on tap was dope! This place offers BBQ in the front and crawfish at the bar. I only stopped by for a few before heading to the airport and loved that I was able to order my food to go on my phone, have a drink, good conversation, and then head out. I'll be back next time I'm in Houston.

The line moves surprisingly fast, the brisket is good, and the surprise is the bread that comes with it! So thick and fluffy. Perfectly pairs with the meats. Also tried the links, turkey, chicken. If you can only try one thing--stick with the brisket.

Real. Good. Barbecue. Visiting from California and man has it been a very long time since I had some actually good BBQ. You line up and the line moves quickly when you know what you want. Fast food style with high quality food. Brisket was just fatty enough with flavor, pork ribs were pull-off-the-bone perfect with great seasoning. The flavor was spot on smoky and savory, exactly what you want from your BBQ. The side sauce was not necessary, but using it does not detract. I added some pickled onions and carrots to add some acidity to the fattiness. Next time I'm in town I'm bringing a group so I have an excuse to try the whole menu at once. Recommended.

You will get full fast! Huge portions, lots of meat options and a tangy sweet sauce. The green beans could use a bit more seasoning, there isn't much sitting space inside and there are a lot of birds outside. The price is decent, I am taking a star because the sides were that tasty.
Busy place and was very very good.
We ordered a dinner plate with brisket and sausage with a side of Mac and cheese and their potato salad. The briskest was SO YUM! The sausage was very mediocre. Ut had a bland taste and almost dry. I wish I got the brisket x2 for what I paid. The Mac and cheese was great! The potato salad grew on me after a while and I demolished it! We also ordered 1 lb of the beef ribs. Let me tell you... if you get one thing, it MUST AND HAS TO BE THIS. It fell off the bone, so slick and tasty. It was 10/10, no complaints. Total came to about $70 with a fountain drink. I'd come back but only for beef ribs, and brisket! And he ok with that price tag! Def a must try tho.
This is a great place to get your BBQ fix.
Simple and easy to read menu, and you get your tray of food then pay up front. Everyone works behind the counter but someone will come to take your food when you're done. It's a smaller restaurant but nice seating. Price range is starting at about $20 if you get a side. I got the pulled pork sandwhich and side of Mac and cheese. The sandwhich was big and plenty of food. The Mac and cheese was creamy and tasty but not overly rich.
Pit room is a pit boss.
One of the best BBQ joints I have ever visited and tried. Very easy going and laid back atmosphere. Great selection of meats.
Excellent meat
Excellent restaurant for enjoying all types of meat, always crowded. Excellent dishes, unique atmosphere, courteous staff
Brisket is exquisite
The 2 meat dinner was so so. Brisket was excellent but beef sausage had some bony stuff inside the meat and the sides are extremely classic and not great. Ambiance is nice though and it’s super packed.
Great Bbq!
Words can’t describe the beauty and tastiness of this BBQ. It is a must in Houston. Drinks are great too. Dog friendly and sports screens everywhere!
Great Barbecue
This was my first visit to The Pit Room. I ordered brisket, turkey, venison sausage, green beans, chocolate chip cookie, and iced tea. The brisket was moist, tender, smoky, and delicious. The turkey was moist, smoky, and very tasty. The barbecue sauce was spicy and very good. The green beans were full size, french style, crunchy, and seasoned very well. The cookie was large, soft, and tasty. The sweet iced tea was just about perfect. They have indoor & outdoor seating. The service was fast & friendly. The prices are comparable to other barbecue joints. This was a great, tasty, filling meal.
Disappointed
Before you go to this restaurant, go to Ray's BBQ on Old Spanish Trail. There is no comparison. We tried The Pit Room and were very disappointed. Ray's is much better. Most things that we had were over spiced and mask the flavor of the food.
The best BBQ
Everything in this place is great. The 4 of us had turkey and beef ribs. Even the cole slaw and potato salad were great. This place is the best BBQ.
The Best BBQ I've ever tried
The best barbecue I have ever had, I loved the place and the food is 100% recommended. My girls also enjoyed the place and they have a good variety of drinks, including Mexican ones.
BBQ as good as it gets.
Large selection of meats and sides, all done well. Cold Shiner Bock on tap. We had beef brisket, coleslaw and green beans. Coleslaw was OK, but not outstanding (not sure I’ve ever had outstanding coleslaw), probably order the potato salad next time.
Don't skip Pit Room
I know this is a BBQ place, but - the Tacos are OUTSTANDING!!! Chicken taco with the griddled cheese is my favorite.
