The Crack Shack - Encinitas Reviews from The Last Year

Any place that puts their crappy reviews on the walls of their restrooms *and* lets me bring my dog to lunch *and* has some pretty solid food and bar offerings gets a full five stars from me. Well played, folks.

Meaty, saucy, crispy, and loaded chicken sandwiches that will blow your clucking mind. Located in a moderately sized and busy mall, The Crack Shack definitely sets the vibe. With outdoor seating, games, and self serve sauce stations, it's very family friendly and inviting to people and dogs of all ages. Soak in sunny San Diego and have a meal to remember. Their menu is quite simple consisting of chicken sandwiches and fried chicken. We ordered a few of the sandwiches to share and a few nuggets to taste and we were beyond full. Each sandwich is filling but the tangy sauces keep you wanting more. And before you know it, you've overeaten and need a nap. At the sauce station, you'll be able to get a helping of ketchup, pineapple mustard, sriracha thousand island, Baja hot sauce, or ranch. Out of all the sauces, the pineapple mustard was by far my favorite. It just went well with everything! The prices can be a bit steep but these aren't your typical chicken sandwiches. They're loaded and made well with great tasting ingredients. The chicken nuggets (non-spicy) were $1.50 a piece and aside from just trying them, it may be a bit too pricey for normal meals. Coop deville - the typical combination of ingredients you'd expect from a classic chicken sandwich but executed phenomenally. Senor croque - this dense sandwich has a hint of sweetness and keeps your mouth watering for the next bite. Pollo soprano - chicken loaded up in a sandwich roll; this one was a big one! Mini cluckers (nuggets) - crispy and pretty meaty. Great finger food for the kids but a bit pricy. Good for dipping sauces! Mini biscuits - these were really tasty and fluffy. Went well with the butter that came with them but also great for dipping that extra sauce from the sandwiches. The staff members taking and fulfilling the orders were great at communicating expectations and making our first time experience a good one. The food was packaged neatly and maintained a delicious temperature. Overall, if you're a fan of fried chicken and chicken sandwiches, you'll be a fan of The Crack Shack. This location was pretty easy to get to but they also have one near downtown San Diego. If you have kiddos or dogs, let them roam near the giant chicken outside while you indulge. The Crack Shack will have you coming back!
Not sure which salad I ordered, it was so good.
I've also ordered the chicken tenders and they were very good too. I'm obsessed with the bar seating because it's spacious and in my opinion the best spot. You can pretty much people watch and socialize from all angles. Great place to bring the kids! Plenty of space to bring your family and friends to enjoy an early afternoon. Service is good, a little reserved, but good.
love love the Baja chop salad with chicken.
I get the small portion and it's a perfect lunch, plenty filling. Love the dressing! ..... the cookies are really good too!
I'm sorry, I don't see what the buzz was about.
The chicken was DRY, the coating so crisp it was difficult to break through. The coleslaw, with pickle, just wasn't my thing but some may like it. The mini biscuits were nice. A little loud but if you're there with a group probably OK.

Plenty of chicken options for kids and adults, plus tasty beers and great ambiance for kids to hang out in the outdoor area with a sand pit. Order up front but can always grab more drinks at the bar and staff is super friendly and accommodating. It's on the "regular" rotation for good family place!
Dog friendly.
Decent food. Patrons wait in line to order our own food. Noisy. But friendly crowd and servers.
just ok.
..not much better than Popeyes or Chik Fil A but twice the price. the female food runners are kind of stuck up...just dump your food off..no thank you or ask if you need something else.
Husband purchased food through Uber eats and the chicken
Husband purchased food through Uber eats and the chicken was uncooked fully. Will not be purchasing again. Update: I emailed to the crack shack and no response was given but hope staff will be mindful in the future so no one will have food poisoning.
Always good.
Encinitas or Little Italy, they are very consistent in the taste. The chicken is always juicy and perfect.

Amazing food and great atmosphere for families! Highly recommend the biscuits. It's easy to order for pickup which we do often.
Fast service.
The employees are very friendly and helpful. Almost all the food was excellent. The biscuits tasted a little too prepackaged, not a flavorful homemade taste. But all the dishes were tasty; half a fried chicken, ground chicken sandwich, breaded chicken sandwich and the tenders. It was my first experience there and I will definitely be going back. I also loved the exposed wood beams and paneling at the Encinitas location. I will try the Vegas location in a month or two.
The food is always fresh hot and delicious.
I truly appreciate the customer service at the front of the establishment. This review is for the crack shack off of Encinitas. This is my go to spot headed back from San Diego to LB.

Crack Shack is my go-to place for chicken sandwiches in San Diego. My favorites are Firebird, Cali Drip and Double Clucker. I am big fan of their shakes as well, specially the Ube Shake and I don't want them to remove it from the menu ever!! I also like that it is a huge place with a lot of seating options.

Pretty good food with plenty of options and a surprisingly large bar. It takes a swing at pleasing everyone and succeeds for the most part. More family friendly than genuinely good, but there's always something for everyone. The pros include lots of seating, outdoor and indoor ordering, and gluten free and veg options. (But come on you're going to a chicken place). All that being said I don't love it. My food is always meh, while my daughter loves her fried chicken and that's always a win.

I associate Crack Shack w Richard Blais from Top Chef, which is pretty cool. It's high quality food inspired by Southern charm. Definitely have some rustic industrial features inside that's trendy for Insta-worthy selfies and group photos. It's located right off Encinitas Blvd, has plenty of parking, a full kitchen, bar, dining, and a play area for kids. You have to order and pay up front before taking a seat and there was a bit of a line when we got there around 2 pm Sunday. Definitely elevated compared to other fast foods such as Popeyes or KFC, but elevated comes w an elevated price. We ordered organic and gluten free fried chicken which is doused w quinoa instead of their alternative oil and batter. The half bird consists of 5 chicken parts. To me, the fries are the best way part - crunchy and flavorful. We also ordered tenders and fries as well for my brother in law. They offer a 10% military discount, which is always nice. My only con is that we ordered a full bird (10 chicken) but only received a half order. We called and they refunded that part of the order.
This place was great.
It had everything it had a sand pit and it toke the kids away to have some time to talk with my husband.

I really like the food here! The only downside is it is crawling with kids. I don't mind kids at restaurants but it really does feel overwhelming and the parents just let it happen. Parenting kids isn't the restaurants job but when you pay $60+ to eat somewhere I don't want to hear kids screaming or bumping into me.
A fun spot
We have been to The Crack Shack several times and it has always been fun although it is a bit expensive and overpriced. It is fun for children and is very dog friendly. If you are there without children sit at the bar for faster service.
Call Drip was the Bomb!
The Cali Drip was amazing. The chicken was moist and tender. The strawberry Cookie Crunch shake was tasty and refreshing.

Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
