The Bombay Club Washington Reviews from The Last Year
I ordered Duck Seek Kabab and Railway Goat Curry.
Both dishes tasted very good. Duck Seek Kababs are soft and melted in my mouth. And spice blend was just perfect Goat Curry was cooked to perfection and tasted excellent with hot butter naans. Waiter was little impatient during ordering of the food and had no empathy for new customers. The restaurant is close to White House and lot of tourist and new visitors are expected. He had a look of dude this is four **** cost wise why are you here.

I dined here for lunch with coworkers recently and it was my first time to the Bombay Club, though I have been to Rasika for dinner before. We sat outside, and it was very pleasant -- not too much street noise, adequate shade, and nice staff. We loved our appetizers. We got the crispy kale (very reminiscent of Rasika's palak chaat), paneer tikka, and the butternut squash samosas. The samosas in particular, with its banana chutney, were outstanding. Definitely a unique take on samosas, and as a big banana fan, I loved the chutney. The crispy kale is sweet and salty and a great starter. The paneer tikka is rich and delicious but very cheese forward so you need to obviously like paneer. For main courses, we each ordered a thali, though we tried different ones. As other reviews have noted, the dal is not to be missed!! It is the absolute standout in the Bombay thali. I did not get to try the other thalis, but some of the dishes on mine were more successful than others -- some of them were very flavorful, others were rather bland. It would be nice if you could customize a thali to choose the best from each, but I understand that would be a lot of work. Overall, it's a very solid spot and you can see some of the ties to Rasika. I wish some of the individual components of the thali were better, but I was very happy with the meal. The appetizers are excellent, and again, whatever you do MAKE SURE TO GET THE DAL!
Great spot for a work lunch.
The fish in the banana leaf was perfectly cooked. The truffle naan was delicious. We ordered various appetizers and entrees and all of them were good.

Went here for dinner with co-workers while in town for meetings in downtown DC. We ordered family style and pretty much had 1 of everything on their menu. There were drinks poured so I don't remember all the specific dishes we ordered, but will say they were all delicious, with multilayered seasonings and flavor. I do remember the famous green chili chicken (apparently Hillary Clinton's favorite here), the lamb vindaloo, okra, saag (without the paneer), crispy fried kale, butternut squash samosas, and a fish curry. Even my 2 Indian colleagues agreed that food was great. Drinks were also nice. I had the Jaipur sunset and another mango flavored cocktail. Both were balanced well. Good power lunch or dinner spot near the White House that's apparently been around for 3+ decades.

From the outside, one would think Bombay Club would be a typical modestly adorned DC lunch spot - a place for serviceable Indian food to go. But step inside and you're introduced to a more luxurious experience, complete matching white glove service (and an unusual age restriction that prevents young children attending). I recently dined with two colleagues, one an Indian food aficionado who hails from Delhi. You will notice a multicultural clientele. Get over the "eat only where the locals eat" mentality and dig into some seriously genuine cuisine. First timers, or simply those looking for great variety, should consider a Thali - a classic assortment of different Indian foods. I got the Classic Thali on a recent visit, which features chicken and lamb. It did not disappoint. This might be my bloated American dietary bias, but I felt that portions were on the modest side. Otherwise, this was a great meal.
We made a reservation and were welcomed.
Upon arrival we spend 10 mins at the bar area. Very welcoming and friendly service. Truly enjoyed every bit. Food was exquisite. EoF - explosion of flavors.. Kale appetizer is my top choice, next to purple potatoes. Spices are just right for an amazing experience. Main course were salmon, chicken tikka and chicken makhni (similar to butter chic) Each was had amazing flavors. The vegetarian winner is lentils (dal) - cooked for 16 hrs. I would come back only for the dal. Tikka was a bit dry as our server cautioned. Ambiance is traditional, classic architecture with piano music - live. I would come again.

Have yet to have a bad meal or experience at this restaurant. If you love Indian food and are staying at a hotel near the White House, this is a must try spot. Love the Club Thali plate, try this for a variety of flavors/tastes and you'll love their garlic naan. The staff are very friendly and attentive so you'll feel more than welcomed when dining here.
Finding an Indian restaurant just a block away from the
Finding an Indian restaurant just a block away from the White House, where most of the presidents have dined in, had to be the selling point for me. The place feels very elegant, you are required to dress in smart casuals...you yourself would not want to dine in here wearing some loungewear or street clothes, as the ambience and the crowd is very fine. Service is great. The menu has a lot of options, and it is famously known for their thalis (a combination of small quantities of multiple type of dishes in a plate). We ordered the veg thali - as an Indian, I would say they can improve their flavors. It did not taste authentic to me, except the dal makhani, that was yum. Also ordered the green chicken curry, did not work out for me at all. Their naan is soft and tastes fresh. Dahi Puri was amazing. Ragada Aloo tasted really good too. For dessert, we ordered the pistachio kulfi, which was delicious and I loved the fact that they had balanced the sweetness very well. Overall, I would say it did not taste like authentic Indian food. I expected more. Parking will be in a paid garage nearby.
A must visit
Recommended by St Regis concierge I visited this Indian restaurant for an early dinner and it was a good choice. Being an Indian living in another country I am always curious to see how authentic the cuisine is. Here you get for sure authentic Indian cuisine except I hope they had more option of Indian dessert. I opted for a thali which is a great way to taste quite a few items without being too much and it was perfect. Never had such a good option of Indian style baked salmon. Service was good too. Gets busy later in the evening. But I had all the attention from the staff through out my dinner.
Skip and choose many other options around the corner
Came here on a rainy cold afternoon withtk reservations on a Wednesday. Place was empty. Turned away and staff refused to seat us because they don't take children less than 8. We our kids were 8 and 6. Glad we went elsewhere. Friends told us later food is sub par and overall disappointing

I wanted to update my review from a lifetime ago.
Bombay Club is among my favorite Indian restaurants in DC. The atmosphere is very inviting and classy, and they have a pianist on the weekends and perhaps other evenings. The food options are traditional if not dependable selections and the drinks are inventive as well. It is not a lively/trendy venue but rather a traditional and tasteful restaurant. I tend to prefer the chicken dishes especially but there are a variety of quality offerings.
We have eaten at the Bombay Club for 18 years, every time
We have eaten at the Bombay Club for 18 years, every time we come to DC; it was our "First date place" The food is wonderful. The service is great. But last week when we were there, we had a surprise. My wife, a vegetarian ordered one of their vegetarian mushroom entrees. I had a seafood dish. Our companions had two meat based meals as well. We all had wine. we had appetizers and Nan. All of our dishes were in the $28-$35.00 range. When the bill came, I noticed we were charged for a rice extra ($5.00) that we did not order. When we questioned it, the waiter explained that it was a charge for the rice to accompany the vegetarian entree. This was the $28.00 entree. None of the meat based dishes were given this charge for their rice. Never has this kind of "extra" charge happened to us for a vegetarian dish at any Indian restaurant anywhere, or there before. How does one eat a vegetarian dish with no rice? I objected to the charge, mentioning that all the rest of us had our rice as a "given" with our meal. They refused to remove the charge. We have loved this restaurant. We felt however, that the charge was simply padding the bill. We will never return to this restaurant. They lost loyal customers over a $5.00 bowl of rice upcharge. Sad. Goodbye Bombay Club.

After a dream dinner over the holidays in 2023, my husband's birthday meal today disappointed. Beware parties of two - you'll be seated in a secondary dining room where one diner faces a wall and you miss the lovely atmosphere of the main dining room. Just moving the tables so the main dining room is in view would be an improvement. We had a thali and green chili chicken and a crab roti appetizer. Food was delicious but portions of thali so small (one bite of fish, two small bites of lamb, and 2 small bites of chicken in addition to very small portions of saag, dal and raita) I ate two cheese sticks when I got home. Service is always gracious so I have no complaints there. I would prefer to pay a bit more and leave the restaurant pleasantly full. Unfortunately for my husband this was a forgettable meal.

Located near the metro station, it's no wonder this place gets so much traffic. On a busy weekend, I would make sure to make a reservation. The dress code is smart casual, so no athletic wear or torn clothing! It is quiet, simple, and romantic, perfect for a date. The aloo ragda is a sweet and savory dip that goes well with the naan. The truffle naan is just very standard naan but is very light and airy; it tastes the same as a regular naan, however, so don't be fooled by the name truffle! The lamb vindaloo is just a tiny bit spicy. I would definitely try their very spicy next time. The chicken tikka is also very good, although the meat was a little tough.

When an establishment is open since 1988, things that could be said about it have likely already been stated, repeated, written about and then cemented into the hall of fame of the restaurant business. The Bombay Club, located a block away from the White House, is a place where white tablecloths reign, where major decisions happen and where one might just find themselves very lucky to be dining. Obama, Clinton and Bush have all dined here. So have many celebrities over the years. Demi Moore, Bruce Willis and Michael Douglas just to name a few. The place is owned and ran by Ashok Bajaj, who also runs the famous Rasika and has a proven record of very successful restaurants. It is now equally an American meal to dine here as anything else could ever be. The tandoori salmon is served bursting in juices, unique flavor and a side of lemon. Lamb Rogan Josh is delicate to a level where it simply falls apart with a rich spinach curry that's going to soak up every bit of basmati and naan that comes its way. A side of lamb samosas is a pleasant add for those who may not have had enough lamb yet. To complement the perfectly executed entrees, there is a vast wine list that's priced at an extremely reasonable 2x up charge vs retail, which is starting to become less and less common these days. Service is sharp, with waiters well trained and dressed to the theme of this fine dining establishment. Bombay Club can now be referenced to as a legendary place in the city and is an absolute must to visit.
Horrendous.
I'm baffled that the staff charged our group $375 due to a missed reservation. One of our team members accidentally called this location rather than Bombay Club in New Orleans to ensure our reservation was still confirmed. It was the staff member's error to not correct my co-worker when she asked about the New Orleans reservation (which I specifically heard her ask about earlier in the day). It is also no where on the website about this missed reservation fee. Assuming they will add the disclaimer after seeing this review. We'll be in touch.
Exceptional dining at The Bombay Club in DC
My sister and I had an unforgettable dining experience at The Bombay Club in DC! The elegant ambiance, impeccable service, and delectable Indian cuisine made it a culinary delight. We highly recommend trying their flavorful dishes and indulging in the inviting atmosphere. The Cobra Coffee Experience is a MUST!! #DiningExperience #TheBombayClubDC
LOVE this place.
I know its sister restaurant gets all the spotlight but I will always choose this one for its ambience and exceedingly comfortable space. I can forget Im in Washington altogether and could have once found such a place in London.
Excellent location and great consistent service
Went for a Christmas dinner with the entire family. Great service and great food. Some dishes are better than others. Will definitely come back. Excellent location.
Love this place.
The quality and ambience is unlike anything else. Excellent location. Some dishes are hit or miss but definitely will come back. Great location near Washington DC as well.
Overall good experience here.
Ordered drinks which were served quickly. The ambiance is nice with some tucked away tables that feel private. The best dish was the lamb vindaloo. Quite spicy but super delicious. The portion sizes are small for the price but I expected that. Overall, tastes pretty authentic and very flavorful food.
One of the best dining experiences in DC hands down.
Service is impeccable. Food is top notch Indian cuisine. Live piano player is cherry on top.
Not worth the money at all!
Service great but food terrible for vegetarians; complete rip off given cost; I have been to food trucks that were better, do not go.
Wonderful Elegant Indian Food
Exceptional food. Elegant ambiance with comfortable seating options, nice visual experience with attractive decor and lighting. Live piano music. Helpful service without being intrusive. The kale appetizer is shockingly delicious. Aromatic spices with delicious flavor profiles throughout the menu. Several of the reviewers took issue with the cost of the food; however, the food was high quality and beautifully executed. In my opinion it is a good value if you desire high quality food. If you are looking for an inexpensive dining option this may not be for you— look at the menu online first. Will add this to my short list of restaurants in DC.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
