Oheya by Uchi Houston Reviews from The Last Year
Had the most amazing dining experience at Oheya.
Our 15-course omakase was very intimate, set in a private room behind Uchi. We were with two other couples. The server was great and super nice. We were helped with sparkling water and wine throughout the dinner. The chefs showing us the courses were all super knowledgeable and easy to talk to! We enjoyed asking them many questions about their work as a chef and about the dishes that they've prepared. It was so cool seeing the behind the scenes and the types of fish used to make each dish! We even saw a giant octopus! Everything tasted incredible. My favorite items that we tried from the night were the ika tartare, kasugodai with mint oil, bluefins, and the ginger ice cream. I would have that ginger ice cream in bulk if I could!
We went for my partner's birthday and had a fantastic time.
The chefs and servers were great. The food was amazing. Highly recommend.

We went for the 15 course Omakase here at Oheya for $175 per person. The entire meal experience was a little bit off for us. The main chef predominantly focused on a group of four people in the middle of the table. Never interacted with us, not even to ask us how we are doing. No small chitchat or Important update like why we started dinner course LATE. We largely felt neglected in the corner. The food can only be explained with one word: SALTY. Each plate was heavily salted even the dessert was too salty. Which take away from a lot of the other aspect of the plate, maybe consider adding some more sweet, umami, spicy savory component. We been to arguably the other top 2 omakase restaurants here in Houston and our experience was not like this at all. And this by far was the worst experience. From the picture, there were additional filler dishes like roasted asparagus, soft tofu, bread/cheese bite. That should not have been included in a seafood Omakase experience. Fish selections were good but not enough. Duck choice was different and the A5 was decent. Overall 2/5 bc of the taste and lack of "bang for your buck" factor. Plus talk to your other customers. Not neglect them.
Came here for my birthday and these dishes did not
Came here for my birthday and these dishes did not disappoint. Majority were absolutely delicious. My absolute favorite piece of the night was the crab handroll with the butter dipping sauce. Scrumptious. I also really enjoyed the vichyssoise. It was so refreshing. Kind of like eating a savory snowcone if that make sense. And the masu dish the sauce they had on it was *chef's kiss*. I was this close to licking my plate in order to get all of the sauce. It was a fun night thanks to staff too. They were fun and easy to talk to and you could tell they enjoyed their jobs. Theyre connected to uchi but somewhat different and I told them I loved the fried milk at uchi and they were kind enough to give me a tub to go as a birthday present. P.S. There's no wrong place to sit. Everywhere has a great view of the chefs cooking.
Without a doubt, one of the best experiences of 2024.
The lobster, duck breast, and all Nagiris were to die for! Loved the experience and ambiance
Tried Oheya for the later seating (7:45p) on a Tuesday
Tried Oheya for the later seating (7:45p) on a Tuesday evening with Kai (the most fun, engaging and entertaining chef!). The spot is located just behind the Uchi restaurant, and is a beautiful, quaint and natural space. The bar top is the only seating available, and while there are only 12 seats at each sitting, there were only 5 seats occupied for the dinner. The omakase is the only option for dinner, although dietary requests are allowed and there's an option for a sake or wine pairing as well as a drink menu to order from. I selected the wine pairing. Overall, the food is fresh and fantastic - exactly the quality you'd expect from a high-end side of Uchi. The chef and small-nature of the space are extremely welcoming and allow for great conversation between the patrons and staff. All staff members are extremely attentive. Overall, the $280 bill for the food and wine pairing ($75 add on) was slightly high but for the quality, service and couple of free add-ons (extra "welcome drink" and able to re-order one favorite sushi dish) it was worth the experience. Will not be frequenting the establishment, but plan to return for a special occasion!
Small hidden gem connected to Uchi, my favorite
Small hidden gem connected to Uchi, my favorite place-omakase and it was delicious- menus change every quarter so looking forward to returning in April. Guest chefs make it different and fun!
Going to an omakase has been on my bucket list for a while
Going to an omakase has been on my bucket list for a while now and Oheya was a great first experience. It's owned by the Uchi franchise and is actually connected to the Uchi. The entrance is located on Grant Street. Valet parking is available or you can also self park in the parking garage at the Montrose Collective. The experience is very intimate with only about 12 seats per service. This allowed us to chat with the sushi chefs and learn more about the courses we were about to eat. You're immediately greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne. The entire service felt very personalized and special. They took very good of my friend whose birthday we were celebrating. We had a good variety of courses, from crudo to nigiri. Some of my favorites from the night were the smoked trout belly, scallop, and sake confit. What was supposed to be a 15-course omakase turned out to be 17 courses. The head chef treated us to tamago which had the consistency of castella cake. It was slightly sweet and very fluffy. We also had miso soup as the last course before dessert. The broth was made using the fish bones from our omakase so nothing went to waste. They rotate their menu every few months so you'll have an entirely different experience if you dine again. As with most omakase experiences, it's on the pricier side but worth treating yourself to if you're a huge fan of sushi. Definitely check out Oheya for a wonderful and authentic omakase!

Went back for a second time and was great as always! Their menu rotates every couple months so will be back soon! Definitely one of the best omakases in town. Would love to see more affordable drink options though.

A subset of the uchi franchise, this omakase spot was a Valentine's Day dinner of mine. Between the major Texas cities, I have tried the majority of omakase spots to differentiate which I would determine is the most worth-it restaurant for a special occasion. This place was nice, better than the bustling and loud Uchi, but I didn't feel like it was any bit more creative, exciting, or filling. You get the typical fish, carpaccio, soup, etc. dressed in whichever ingredient, concoction, or companion food for their idea of the menu. I enjoyed the focus on citrus during the winter months. But I found it all to be pretty much the same experience as most omakase places in Houston. There was no explosion of flavor, interesting combination, or a fish that exceeded all other fish quality in the area. The menu was a bit short, the stories or explanation of the origins either weren't there or quite basic and generic.... It just didn't feel unique or personal. Many other places are surprising me in ways I didn't think could with the same fish, but this place seemed to be doing the same story beats as other (even cheaper) places. However, the service of the FOH was always prompt and kind. Zero complaints there. Somehow the standout was..... the PB&J?! It wasn't loved by my partner but I actually found it to be the one dish to actually break the barriers of what you'd expect. I'm glad it was the end because it made my impression of the meal that much better. But I'm a little distracted that a non-fish option was the best part. Overall, it's a standard and basic and even a bit short of an omakase with a great dessert. You can find better omakase for the same price but longer and more creative in the same city.
Intimate.
Complex. Delicious. The experience at Oheya was flawless, I don't think anything could have been done better. The pacing of the dishes and order they provided them in was perfect. The fish quality was really good, and the citrus focused menu was so fun to experience, and added to the complex flavors they presented. The staff are passionate and very well informed about the food. I would love to come back and experience their changing menu!
Would give it 3.
5 stars if I could. Great service and loved the concept of the "built in freebies outside of the menu for a chance for some special exclusive bites". We had two freebies and a complimentary champagne! The food was decent. Fun concepts and good quality fish and meat. Plating was also beautiful as you can see from the pictures. And all the dishes are exclusive to Oheya - you can't order it in their normal restaurant. I would say the space was intimate as there was only a specific amount of seats (normally 12 but we had 8) around a counter in a separate back part of the restaurant. But, they still played pop music so it was a chill atmosphere. It's a good balance as a starting point to get your feet wet for high end meals. Fancy without being overly classy and you can feel okay being in business casual. That being said, for the price point, the service felt a bit rushed and I wish there was more time in between each bite for even more information on the dish like where things were sourced or what inspired the dish. And also time for questions with more initiated conversations between the guests and the chefs. I felt like I had to chug down the my $9 bottle of Pellegrino water at the end as the meal was done so quickly. A few tweaks and this place would be a solid 4 stars! It's hard because I've been to some really nice and pricey places in the past few years - including other omakases. And having those experiences definitely makes me a pickier judge. The $$$ price of restaurants should go into the quality and creativity of the dishes, but the experience of eating it and dining/learning is also really important for me. Overall a good experience, but not better than average at its price point ($400-500 for 2). I would suggest for people to come give this place a try, especially if you've never had omakase before. It's still a fun experience and they change out their menu every two months so there are always new dishes. Go for a celebratory or anniversary dinner and taste some new flavors and fusions o! We parked across the street at the Montrose collective's parking garage. Paid about $7 for 2 hours. Or you can go with valet and the restaurant validates a portion of it.

A nice experience at Oheya! Not my favorite sushi though, unfortunately. For the price point, it's not the worst. $175 pp. I came hungry and left satisfied, but definitely not stuffed. I thought out of the 16/17ish plates served, only maybe 4 blew my mind. At least half of the sushi pieces were underwhelming and lacked flavor. They used sprinklings of special salt to enrich the flavor and it still barely helped in my opinion. The staff is extremely professional and have refined their craft. Bravo to them for execution, plating, explaining, etc. The room is clean, upscale and exudes simple sophistication, and is roomy enough to seat everyone without feeling claustrophobic. I'd much rather spend $175 at Uchi!
The entire experience and food were just outstanding.
The ishidai (4th pic) is some of the absolute best sushi I've ever put in my mouth. You could tell the passion and thought that went into each item. The menu was creative, flavors and textures delicious, and it was so cool to see the masters at their craft and be able to ask questions. They were gracious hosts and enthusiastic to share. I left full and happy. The intimidate setting (only 12 seats) is really wonderful, and I can't wait to come back and explore the next menu. The complimentary glass of bubbles at the beginning was a delightful touch and they added in 2 complimentary tastings. I left full and happy. It's $175/pp + drinks (water is $9 or they have a sake or wine pairing for $75), but they sometimes have soft opening deals for their new menus if you can snag a spot. Even at full price, it's an incredible value.

Dropped in for a Friday dinner to check out a different part of the Uchi family. The space is set in the back of the Uchi in Houston with a separate courtyard (I used this term loosely since it was really just a space between the two halves of the building) entrance. Seats 12 and serviced by two host/hostesses and the chef's behind the bar. The menu rotates on a two month basis and is curated by one of the chef's in the Uchi family. For our tasting it was a chef out of Denver with a Peruvian heritage so there was a nod to that in some of the dishes. Service was great (but it always is since they do a great job of training up staff). The was coursed out well and the pace was good as well. Definitely enough food to be satiated without feeling overly full. For the pricing, it's pretty good bang for the buck.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
