Oakland Zoo San Leandro Reviews from The Last Year
If you are going to the zoo every once in a long while, you
If you are going to the zoo every once in a long while, you will probably enjoy it, but it's no longer worth a membership. For more than 12 years, we have had a membership because it allowed us to make quick trips to the zoo, often just to pop in and hit the rides area. We would make a full day of it on some occasions as well, but we liked the flexibility of the membership for the rides. We used to be able to drive in and were allowed to park in the top lot (even if other visitors were being directed to the open fields for parking). This made sense because we told them we were visiting only for the rides on certain days, and therefore didn't want to contend with the field parking and long lines, then the steep walk up the hill, when we weren't even there to see the animals. Now the zoo forces everyone to park in the overflow lot -- which is just a giant, unkept field of tall grass. Then, you have to wait in the long line at the bottom to enter -- they used to have a separate line for members, but no longer. In addition, the rides are often broken for long periods of time. And they have reduced the number of cars on the train, meaning longer wait times. They used to have 2 trains running to keep the line moving, but not anymore. The jeeps shut down years ago, and just never re-opened. The carousel has been down for months. The roller-coaster is closed more often than it is open. The food options are also terrible. Guests used to be able to get pizza in the rides area, but now they only sell pizza in the California trail, which makes zero sense. And the food is out-of-control expensive everywhere at the zoo. Be prepared to spend $40 for a lunch for 2 in the cafe. We got chicken tenders and a burger -- and yes, it was $40. When I tried to discuss these issues with member services, I was looked at with a blank stare that communicated to me that no one cared at all. If you're going to the zoo on a rare occasion to spend the whole day seeing the animals -- and you're willing to spend a lot of money on food -- you will enjoy the zoo. However, as I said above, the membership is not worth it.
I haven't been back to the zoo since our son and daughter
I haven't been back to the zoo since our son and daughter were young, maybe about 30 years ago! Things have definitely changed for the better and now I'm taking my grandson and his mom! The ease of getting tickets online, great map of the zoo and plenty of signs, plenty of shade and benches. Clean restrooms, friendly staff! Our grandson had a great time exploring and using his zoo key! We enjoyed lunch after our exploration at the restaurant near the main entrance in a cool and clean restaurant. We ordered two hamburgers that come with fries and some fruit! We also went to the store next to the restaurant and got some small animals for my grandson to play with. Next time, we'll have to check out the rest of the zoo and also by then, my 20 month old grandson will want to ride the steam train and merry-go-round.
Oh Hill Nah.
.. This Zoo is built on super steep hills. Like, a lot of hills. Forget the stairmaster! All you need is the Oakland Zoo. You will have the legs of a rhino and the arms of a gorilla after a day here. There are a great variety of animals - elephants, giraffes, bears, tigers, etc. but the animals seem to sleep during day and you may not see many unless you go there early I think, but I'm no Zoologist. There are cool unique features here such as a gondola, open air sky ride, and a train ride. I highly rec your try them especially the gondola as its an amazing aerial view of the area. PLUS you can see the SF AND Oakland downtown skyline in one view. Its amazing, and I've never seen both skylines at once like that. While I normally live in a Zoo with a dog and a mini-me, we made great memories exploring the Oakland Zoo.
Had a wonderftul time yesterday here; have'nt been to a zoo
Had a wonderftul time yesterday here; have'nt been to a zoo in ages, much smaller that SF but beautiful views and much better for animals even though was hard to see some of them (wolves). the grounds are well maintained and the gondola line moved pretty fast. I grew up going to SF zoo and zoos are much more animal welfare now. Very good prices for a great day :)
BEWARE!! OAKLAND ZOO PARKING IS NOT SAFE! our plate number
BEWARE!! OAKLAND ZOO PARKING IS NOT SAFE! our plate number was stolen and change last 5/5/24!! We tried to contact Oakland zoo but they are not participative and responsive!! You paid for a parking lot but they wont give you a copy of cctv atleast! They wont help you at all!!
During the week it's not as busy as a weekend.
We went on a Tuesday for a school field trip. A lot of the animal enclosures were not available because they were being cleaned up or remodeled. Overall it was a nice experience
It's lovely to walk around all the animals.
We really enjoy It and hoping to buy the year pass or something soon
Fun and varied zoo with quality, educational
Fun and varied zoo with quality, educational interactives Was pleasantly surprised by our visit to the Oakland Zoo. Have heard many good things and once we made our way past the notorious traffic and parking, it was an enjoyable day. The layout is relatively straightforward to catch all the animal and educational exhibits without hopscotching around. The enclosures are attractive and seem very humane to the animals. Kids enjoyed the mix of animals, which all looked healthy and comfortable, along with detailed educational displays and histories. There are also educational installations and interactives at the top, after taking the gondolas. The Kaiser Visitor Center and California Conservation Habitarium (sp?) were simple, but kept us occupied for the better part of an hour. Then, off the the wolves, eagle, condors, bears, jaguar, and mountain lions. You see the bison while on the gondolas too, which is cool. One of those legacy attractions worth the visit. If the highway traffic and parking were improved, I'd easily give five stars.
Enjoyed this zoo since I was little.
So glad they've added the glofari. Normally a calm setting

Altho not a wide range of species but animals here got a lot of area to enjoy themselves. On the gondola we were lucky enough to identify one gray wolf wandering down below - it was fun to say hi to the gondolas passing by too :)! Parking got challenging after 10:30am on weekend morning. California Conservation Habitarium was a great place to take a rest (kids can have color sheets at the front-desk) and watch bears at 12pm. Would definitely come back.
When I went to the zoo last week, I must say, the animals
When I went to the zoo last week, I must say, the animals were terribly boring in comparison to the WONDERFUL help of the employees in the rides section. I have never seen a ride operated with such grace, such expertise, such passion in my life. It was as if they were reveling in the joy they were providing for all the children frolicking about on the rides. I am blown away. I have written a poem about them: the gleeful rides they operate, the way they do it is not good its GREAT. I cry and praise the lord above for the Oakland zoo employees they be doin what they love I love you Oakland zoo. Truthfully, I would rather it be just the employees and no animals at all. I hate animals. But employees, mmmmhmmmm! you set my soul on fire. give ALL THE RIDE OPERATORS HUGE RAISES!!!!!!! ESPECIALLY GIVE RAISES TO THE SUPERVISORS I PRESUME THEY HAVE TO KEEP THEIR CRAFT IN SUCH MINT ORDER. yay
Worst customer service ever.
Was on the phone with some man who not only hung up on me but I'm sure I heard him call me "stupid" before doing so. I can't remember his name but he was incredibly rude throughout the entire phone call and he was raising his voice and being very curt. I know we all have bad days but taking it out on a customer is unfair. Will never EVER go to this zoo again ESPECIALLY since this was only a phone call, imagine the in person treatment......
Such a great experience.
Went when they opened. Gondola to the top and had a blast! Saw so many great animals!
They zoo didn't tell us the upper half was closed and
They zoo didn't tell us the upper half was closed and animals were locked up for maintenance. I spent 60 dollars myself and daughter to see a few animals and leave. They gave no option of a refund and no warning that half the zoo was closes before I purchased my ticket. The staff was very rude and would not help us. I recommend calling to check the zoo is not under maintenance before wasting money and dealing with rude staff members
What a waste of money! Purchased tickets in advance, then
What a waste of money! Purchased tickets in advance, then gondola was closed! Make sure you don't waste money zoo is not worth it if gondola is closed.
Oakland Zoo was a nice place to spend with the little ones.
They use an advance online ticket purchasing system where the price would fluctuate. Interestingly, it got more expensive the closer it got to the date we wanted to go. As there was rain in the forecast, we were reluctant to purchase our tickets until the day prior. I had been observing the price for two weeks and the price was most expensive when we made the purchase the day before. We went on a weekday so the zoo wasn't too busy. Although the zoo was on the small size, there were plenty to see and enough to spend a few hours with the little ones on a relaxed pace. Most, if not all of the bathrooms have diaper changing tables in both the men and women's bathroom, making it very family friendly. Some of the indoor exhibits/areas do not allow strollers but they have areas to park the stroller. On the day we went, the Sky Ride and Express Train was closed so we couldn't get to check out the Wild Australia area(only accessible by train). We loved the Gondola ride as it was fun and scenic. On the day we went, the weather was gloomy. I imagine the view would have been amazing on a sunny day. The Gondola was spacious and we could easily fit our stroller in(we have a bulky Nuna stroller). Had a great time and would definitely be back!
Great place to visit but make not to go on a weekend it's
Great place to visit but make not to go on a weekend it's super crowded buts kids love it great place to visit
Came here last week.
I usually don't like to go to zoos because of how the animals are kept, but I came here and felt it was ok. The people that worked here are very nice and kind. It was a unique experience to see animals that I've never seen before. The park admission price is reasonable, not too expensive. We didn't have any problem parking when we came here either. It was a good day trip
Oakland Zoo is just wonderful! We had such a nice time
Oakland Zoo is just wonderful! We had such a nice time today! One thing I really appreciated about this zoo is that it seems it was built with the animals in mind, not humans. I was just mesmerized by the thoroughness and intricacies of the animals' habitats - it was very creative and inventive to give the animals maximum enjoyment and plenty to do. I'm not sure exactly how to describe it but the analogy is this: Whereas, other bigger, grander zoos have almost a Disneyland feel to them, more of that of an amusement or entertainment park, Oakland Zoo is just really natural and DIY....it's like the difference between being in a cool, underground DIY art scene vs. some big corporate production - Oakland Zoo has it right! The animals just have so many cool little places to go and so many dimensions and multi-levels to their homes. It was so amazing to watch how fast those monkeys swing from branch to branch - it really brings home why 'monkey bars' are called just that on a playground! And the zebras had such grace...and, most fascinating is seeing the BATS! There they were right in front of us, hanging upside down to sleep, getting fed upside down..so neat to see that the floor of the bat cage means nothing 'cause it's all about the CEILING.....wow, to watch a bat spread its wings right in front of your eyes....it was just SO cool. And just a shopping tip: the gift shop has the cutest stuffed animals of every kind - if you are looking for a special plush animal for a loved one, Oakland Zoo gift shop is where it's at! Anyway, we loved our day - some sun, some exercise, some fabulous animals....and all in a great, low-key environment. Thank you!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
