Up to expectations
Great Restaurant, good casual atmosphere, food was good, as expected, service exceptional, plenty of staff to look after you. Good size menu. We both had fish dishes which were wood fire cooked. Decent serve but need to order sides. We had Wentworth potatoes and peas with anchovies (tasted much better than it sounds). Both were good size servings, would order both again. Good wine list but limited by glass list which was a bit pricey. Noticed a number of other diners were sharing mains and Entrees. We had a main each, bread, two side dishes, 1 glass of Champagne, 1 glass of wine and a coffee each which came to around $240 . Well worth the cost. Will go again.

The service was exemplary starting with being shown to our table and the attentive wait staff. We shared tuna tartare, potato rosti with salmon roe and chargrilled zucchini. For mains we shared the roast chicken with eggplant puree with chargrilled corn and bell peppers. It was probably a little too much but it was so delicious we kept eating. However next time we will leave room for dessert.
Be the first to ReplyHonesty is essential
Given the widespread prevalence of food allergies, itโs essential that diners can be certain that the waiter will give honest answers to their questions. I have no allergies, but I do enjoy cutting into a thick, juicy steak. Accordingly, when ordering, I asked the waiter: โDoes the steak come sliced?โ The answer I received was a firm โNo.โ When my steak arrived, I pointed out to the waiter that it had been sliced. Clearly, the answer to my question shouldโve been, โYes, the steak comes sliced, but Iโll ask the chef not to slice yours.โ The sliced steak was duly replaced, with apologies. But that isnโt the issue. Unless waiters give scrupulously honest answers to diners' questions, itโs only a matter of time before a diner has a dangerous allergic reaction.

Lucky to get a table here. This is my new favourite Sydney restaurant! Very good vibe buzzing with conversation. The food is outstanding. Seafood and fish in abundance. A great selection of raw and cooked entrees and wood grilled mains , steaks and other non piscine options available for the meat eaters. We three shared dishes off pipis, prawns, Thai sausages and ceviche of gold spot trevally. Main course: grilled King George whiting with sides of slow cooked peas and crisp and creamy potatoes. Very smart fish and chips. Some great desserts on offer, my wife chose a crรจme caramel, not quite the right texture (perhaps some cornflour added). This was the only negative in an otherwise exceptionally good meal.

All I can say is they improved so much and we enjoyed greatly with their new menu. Neil Perry got his mojo back, the food is delicious and the flavor is well balanced. The only downside, actually for most of restaurants in Sydney is a bit noisy.
Be the first to ReplyA special dining experience
This is an exceptional family run restaurant, and right up there with the very best in Sydney. The staff are incredible, always happy, friendly and accommodating, the food is superb, and it just has a lovely relaxed and classy atmosphere. Importantly the wine list is great for those that really appreciate a cellar with great variety and depth. Top marks from us, we have been a number of times and its always a special treat, congratulations to Neil and Samantha and family.

Work needs to be done on size of the desserts and the plating. Very non inspirational particularly for a hatted restaurant. Would fail Masterchef.

We had a birthday voucher and went for lunch. Entrees albacore tuna and burrata with extras were excellent as werethe prawns and squid. Restaurant was full approx 80-100 people and we counted 30 staff. Will be back

This is a great place to eat. The service was friendly and top notch - and the food was so delicious. They chatted with us and got to know us through the night.

My wife and I both looked forward to the venue in view of its recent award. We found the food and service was perfect and not overbearing. The time between servings perfect. My only comment would be I liked my steak Tartare (entree) a little spicier, but I enjoyed it all the same. My wife had the Albacore entree and Beef filet (Bleu). I had the Coral trout as my main. All were served exactly as we desired. Our sweet service being a crumble and a trifle were delicious. Wine selection by the glass was available to match the food courses. The food quantity was adequate - quality is paramount with an adequate serve when three courses are desired. Thatโs what we got. It was crowded but the noise level was acceptable - we could talk across the table. We spent just over two hours enjoying our meal and at no time were we rushed. Neil Perry was seen organising the open kitchen and he was anything but a Gordon Ramsay. A fine group producing fine food. Is it the best restaurant in Australia ? Itโs exceptionally good but there are others that can equal the food - maybe the ambience and service get โMargaretโ over the line. We have eaten around the world and Margaret is certainly at the top end. Thank you for an enjoyable experience and the cup cake recognising MY Margaretโs birthday.

An upmarket offering with amazing attention to detail. The menu itself is a work of art The staff were very attentive and friendly. We shared a few entrees which were delicious, mushrooms and prawns. I had a fish main, swordfish which was melt in mouth. The cheese plate was not generous given the $ but all in all, it is certainly worth a visit for a special event.

Sought a special place for a special occasion, very hot day, arrived at 5 to 12, they open at 12, we entered and were told they were not open yet so we would have to wait outside in the hot weather, so not the best start. Once we re -entered we were then quickly seated, although where I was seated felt like I was in the way, as staff constantly walking behind my chair and bumping it. Service was very quick, lots of staff, food was really good with quite substantial portions, not a huge variety on the cocktail list unless you are a martini fan.

Delicious food, beautifully calm interior, delightful service. Appreciated the attention to all details like the gorgeous photography on the menu. Coral trout wings were fun to try.

The restaurant is lovely, clearly a trending venue. Food is amazing. However, if you are dining as a single woman, which I do quite often when I travel, beware. I arrived right at 6PM when the restaurant opened and was hoping that I would be able to be accommodated with a seat at the bar. The gentleman checking people told me the bar was not available and was able to seat me a table right next to the door. The bar was empty until I left about an hour later, as it turned out. I did speak to the general manager about my experience and he did provide me cash for the equivalent of one glass of wine (about $32 US). The waiter was great -- but by the time I sat down my experience was ruined because the gentleman checking people in was dismissive and had big attitude. I will not return regardlsss of how good the food is. Too bad -- the management needs an attitude check.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic restaurant - go if you can
Our new favourite restaurant. Absolutely delicious food and great service. Would thoroughly recommend. Only one thing to be aware of - if you are offered al fresco dining it is on the street, not in a courtyard or garden, and youโll be asked to clear the table by 9pm due to council planning rules.

Took our friend here to celebrate her engagement and we were really disappointed. The service was poor and we were constantly just told we needed to hurry up and decide what we wanted and hurry up and finish because they needed the table. Although the food was nice, portions were tiny and expensive. We all left still hungry. Wonโt be rushing back.
Be the first to ReplyDinner ruined, kicked out on the 2-hour mark when there were 17 vacant tables
Our night was so ruined, this is the first time I have ever left a negative restaurant review. This was my second time dining at this Neil Perry restaurant and the first time for my dinner companions. The first was a wonderful and special experience. We were left to dine at our leisure and as a result spent a couple of hundred more dollars on drinks and desserts than we otherwise would have; there were several tables available for the second sitting during this time. I should also point out that as a Sydney restaurant regular with dining companions who own hospitality businesses, I am very aware of the need for two sittings for lunch and dinner at high end restaurants. Our experience this week for dinner was unfortunately a really negative experience and as a result this will be the last time we dine at a Neil Perry restaurant. For two reasons: we were completely disrespected by a staff member and because this feedback is aligned with past trip advisor posts regarding an employee who was passive aggressive, sarcastic, disrespectful and rude, it appears this behaviour is condoned by the owner - who was in the restaurant on the night we dined. We were kicked out at the two-hour mark even though we pointed out there were 10 tables available inside and another 7 outside; there was also nobody waiting for a table when we left. Our food waitress was professional and engaging and our drink orders were taken by a staff member who was knowledgeable and friendly. We were having a perfect evening until the head waiter (making an assumption this is his job title, as he mentioned several times he'd be sitting down with Neil) made it clear our time was up and we were expected to settle up and leave. He was argumentative and rude and completely ruined our night. My dinner companions and I agreed we didn't need to spend $500 on a mid-week meal at a restaurant of Neil's to be disrespected. There are many other exceptional restaurants in Sydney where we regularly dine and are treated with respect.

A fabulous dining experience, with an extensive wine list, exceptional service, and fresh food, this would be one of Sydneyโs best restaurants.

I had high expectations for Margaret, celebrity chef, $5 million fitout and more bistrot type appeal. The welcome was warm and the place buzzing (Wednesday night). Ange (a fellow kiwi was our main wait person) and Richard (sommelier) were engaging and helpful. We shared spanner crab salad, beetroot (wood fired) and chicken for main, and the chocolate cake for dessert. All visually appealing, great flavours and texture. Would order everything again. Surpringly for how busy the place was the food came out quicklly but was well paced. The Domain Naturaliste Artus 2021 chardonnay was reasonble value and paired our food well. Tried a glass of the 2016 Le Fioraie chianti which went down a treat but pricey at $33. I was impressed, for the quality of ingredients well priced, a lot of staff but will return if in Sydney.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food Great service Great Decor Poor Drinks
We were here for a Saturday lunch and the service was extremely attentive. There was a mountain of staff on hand. The restaurant was full. The food was excellent, fresh and inspired - great blue swimmer crab! Only one complaint - the pre drinks. The Bloody Mary and the Whisky Sour were watery. More whisky and thicker tomato juice needed.
Be the first to ReplyIts starts with "you have 2 hours" - that's not the best greeting
Its starts with "you have 2 hours" not the best greeting. Turning tables over rather than a real dining experience the main game here, I have been here a few times and its getting more and more pushy. Nice dining space, the food is good, of high quality which is expected, but being hovered over by staff and pushed along is unnecessary. For instance I am not allowed to order s one shared starters, take a break and then order a main dish - as the team are watching the clock. I did email the venue, had an email agreeing to extend my dining time (by 30mins), yet, when I arrived, reception stated they couldn't see this on my booking - I showed them the email and they backed off. We ordered a main and one drink and left inside an hour. We won't be back, there are many other venues that can have my money.
