Field & Vine Somerville Reviews from The Last Year
I came here for a special seafood tasting menu.
It's all unique items so I won't break them down. But every dish was amazing and full of flavors. Their bread/flatbread is awesome too. The staff there are among the friendliest I have experienced at a restaurant, which is saying a lot. I will def come here again and try out the regular menu and highly recommend everyone to try this place out 5/5
Food is fantastic, service was wonderful, timing and
Food is fantastic, service was wonderful, timing and pairings were perfect, and the restaurant itself has a great vibe. Will definitely keep this one on the list to go back to!
Extremely exciting interior, creative and well thought
Extremely exciting interior, creative and well thought design, inviting ambience. Best service you can expect from busy establishment and super knowledgeable staff. Now to the food. Nothing was wrong or bad, fish ceviche had complexity and flavor profile was up to the standards. But plate was intended to share and priced around 20 dollars and it wasn't enough for even tasting. Same thing was with all plates, bluefish entree costs 36 dollars but it was tiny piece of braised fish on top of tiny amount of vegetables. Taste was fine, but nothing special. All in all, this is trendy design, good vibes, but somewhat no impressive food and quite overpriced.
Generally I adore the food at Field and Vine.
I've been at least four times. I love how the menu is always changing, except for the winners like the cornbread. The first time I ate there, I almost swooned over each bite. Last night was much more hit and miss. The 5 of us had 11 dishes plus dessert. ceviche - loved the herbs on the fish, this fish itself was just OK. The sesame seed crackers they serve with it are out of this world. The shrimp was also fine. The beef tartare was excellent. I loved the sauce and the peanuts. The asparagus and kale were both charred, and I didn't like that flavor. The oeufs mayonnaise had a strong flavor, which I found overpowered the eggs. It's served with bread, and I find all of their crackers and bread are amazing. The risotto and soft shell crab were both OK. The bluefish was the star of the night. Desserts were amazing - my favorite was the chocolate tart. the ice cream sandwich was also stellar. We got the rhubarb and cream, which everyone in my group loved, and we had a couple scoops of labneh ice cream which is delicious. I'll go again, as so many things on the menu shift.
I came here with a group of friends who wanted to try
I came here with a group of friends who wanted to try something new. The restaurant has a fantastic location and beautiful setting inside. We ordered a variety of small plates--all delicious. The service was a bit slow the night we were there.
**Closer to 3.
5 stars. The restaurant is adorable, it gives woodsy greenhouse and sitting at the chef's counter to watch the food being prepared is fun and immersive. While our server was very kind, I wouldn't say the service was overly exceptional and it would've been nice to get some engagement from behind the counter other than quickly dropping our plates - I say this given that there's a 20% gratuity + 3% kitchen fee automatically included. Happy to support the staff, but I wish the service had really exceeded expectations. All the food was tasty and interesting but a bit overpriced for shared plate portions. We ordered 5 plates (and 2 desserts) for two people as recommended - tuna carpaccio, beef tartare, gem lettuce, risotto, and pork loin. The pork was probably the favorite as it was cooked perfectly but the risotto was a little watery and al dente for our taste, albeit flavorful. Overall, a cute spot to try for a date night or catching up with a friend but be aware that the bill can rack up quickly, especially if your party has more than 2 people.
Probably the most underrated restaurant in the Boston area.
One of the top 3 best restaurants I've ever been to. Every dish was outstanding and so creative and unique. Also the olive oil ice cream? That was a first for me and changed my life forever. If you love good food and a great experience this is a must go place.

What a find. Be sure to book ahead as it's a small place. We could have stayed there for hours just eating all of the small plates they have to offer. We had the opportunity to sit at the section surrounding the kitchen and thoroughly enjoyed watching the prepare all of the food. Everything was fresh and innovative.
Sat at the counter and saw entire meal cooked right infront
Sat at the counter and saw entire meal cooked right infront of us. Small plates for sharing really good
Wow! This restaurant is one of my top in boston area.
I am lucky to have found this hidden gem. Overall appearance is super vibey and cute. The restaurant was full of plants and hidden down an ally with a green door. My favorite item was the cavatelli but it almost a close tie with the oeufs mayonnaise. The pommes is also a must try. The crudo was super fresh and the kale salad had a lovely flavor. The server walked us through the wine list and allowed us to try different wines before deciding. Incredible service and incredible food. 5 plates shared between 2 people and we believe it was just the right amount. It is was somewhat hefty bill (~$200 with tip) but nothing too crazy and well worth it.
Very irritated with the restaurant.
We booked a reservation and all party arrived at the scheduled time. We traveled 30 miles to try this restaurant. Instead, they seated other parties with later reservations before us. Very inconsiderate. Update: while we waited, they did offer us some drinks on the house. Hostess was very polite with great customer service skills. Update #2: despite the rough start trying to get a table, overall it was a wonderful place. The food was delicious. The staff was wonderful as well. Changing my review from one star to four stars.
Their food has complex flavors.
Both bluefin tuna carpaccio and salmon crudo were amazing. We ordered house pickles, grilled gem lettuce, black pepper cavatelli, and swordfish pozole which were all very good. Highly recommended!
If you want to enjoy a good meal in a happy place
Another point goes to Somerville, MA for having another restaurant with a great meal that came with an all-around enjoyable ambiance and service. Field & Vine. This reminded me of why we don’t go back to places like the Fox & the Knife even though we loved their food. It wasn’t fun eating in their shoebox dining room. Field and Vine dressed up their small space nicely and had a lively and relaxing atmosphere. As for the food… we can’t pick a favorite dish. Every single one is a must try. Even their roasted beets was memorable. Portions are on the small side but reasonably priced. I wouldn’t describe the dishes as innovative but it had unique combinations that made the dish really good. For instance, the beef tartare had a familiar Thai/Vietnamese dressing that I typically have in Asia with pomelo or shrimps but I enjoyed their version with beef tartare. As I hoped, they let the fresh ingredients sing and not drown dishes in over the top flavor. [IMHO. I’m not a chef, I’m just a foodie haha] Now I’m excited to try June Bug next. BEEF TARTARE NUOC CHAM AIOLI, FRIED SHALLOTS, PEANUTS, HOUSE CHIPS, LOTS OF HERBS ROASTED BEETS SALSA DOÑA, CRISPY CUMIN CHICKPEAS CHARRED GRILLED DUCK CHARRED ESCAROLE, KUMQUATS, PIPIAN SAUCE, PEANUT. CILANTRO BLACK PEPPER CAVATELLI MUSHROOMS, FONDUTA, PEA GREENS. AMONTILLADO SHERRY. GREMOLATA CHEDDAR SCALLION CORNBREAD MISO BUTTER. SPICY PICKLES SWORDFISH POZOLE GUAJILLO DASHI HOMINY, CRUNCHY VEGETABLES, GARLIC-CHIVE OIL POMMES PAILLASSON ROSEMARY SKORDALIA DRESSING, SMOKED MACKEREL Dessert: chocolate tahini tart and ice cream macaron sandwiches semi-freddo
Trendy, farm to fork without the fuss
Beautiful and comfortable farm to fork restaurant with attentive staff and creative local flavors. We ordered -an orange wine from Greece -ceviche with watermelon, coconut, herbs -matsutake mushrooms with smoked trout roe -tomato tart -cheddar/scallion cornbread with picked veg & miso butter -monkfish schnitzel -burnt cinnamon ice cream sandwich Everything was delicious, fresh and beautifully plated (although a couple dishes were a bit difficult to eat without destroying first — tomato tart —) Our server provided thoughtful recommendations throughout. This is a casual atmosphere with a ‘fold your napkin when you get up to pee’ level of service. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the Boston area who wants to experience local grub in a trendy but comfy atmosphere.
It's about the food...
Don’t be off-put by the alley entrance or the grunge decor. It’s about the food. And the food here is unique, fun, and delicious. The menu items reflect the chef's version of something you may be familiar with. For example, we had Chedder Scallion Cornbread with miso butter. Nothing like any cornbread in the South – but wonderful. We also had Tomato Tart and Monkfish Schnitzel. We sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen and our server was terrific. Give it a try.
