We just returned from our vacation, we stayed at The Contemporary Garden Wing. This is a very old & dated resort, somewhat dirty (cockroach in the room) & it's just o.k. not the wow factor I expected for the amount of money it costs to stay there. We stayed at Saratoga Springs resort in 2018, everything from the time we booked our trip to the end of our trip everything was 5 stars. It's really sad how everything was not that this trip, even staffing is not the previous Disney experience. We always have a great time just the standards really have gone down & the costs gone up. (Like everything else)

An excellent stay! Though spendy, it is worth it to stay here at least once. The convenience of being able to walk to the Magic Kingdom Park or even to catch the monorail is unmatched. What we love is that it's kind of a one-stop shop in that everything is located in one place and there is so much good food downstairs and especially on the 15th floor at the California Grill. The water view was great because you could step outside your balcony and catch the water parade. At night, the kids could run to the end of the hall and outside the stairwell to watch the fireworks and Monorails passing through. Our room was comfortable, and we thought they made great use of the space. The beds have so much space under them that you can place your luggage under there, and the bathrooms were spacious. I personally found the beds to be comfortable, and I slept so well. We also enjoyed their pool and water slide. Overall, it was a great stay and highly recommend! The only thing that I found tricky were the elevators. You got 6 elevators and a whole bunch of people trying to go up to different floors and then people trying to get down. It can get congested and more wait time for an elevator to take you up.
Be the first to ReplyStayed here on a work related trip, so the rating is a bit
Stayed here on a work related trip, so the rating is a bit skewed as the amenities were set up for us, but we still got to use the resorts features nonetheless, and overall I was impressed. Employees or cast members as they're called here, we're all very good. Every one of them said hi to you as you walked the hallway, even if they were not servicing your room. The hallways are long and the sequencing doesn't always make sense, but it's clean and well maintained. The vending machines are a bit hidden away, and things such as shops are a bit different than your standard hotel, but they've got everything you need at the resort, and tons of space to spare. The rooms are clean and well appointed (although there was an odd absence of water cups in the room. The blankets are thin but warm, and there is a large sized TV with all the channels you'd need. Front desk, concierge and bell staff were helpful and friendly. I'd definitely suggest more soda machines around the lot and maybe even bikes to get around for rent, plus there isn't a ton to do if you're not riding the monorail to the other resorts or The Magic Kingdom. Restaurant wise there was the California Cafe which was delicious. Again, catered so I can't really speak to the menu. The other dining spot I used was The Contemporary Cafe. Food is so-so but here you'll find the friendliest of all the staff. They were all incredibly helpful and smiling, always willing to give a hand. The food was quick and surprisingly not too expensive. It's a nice reprieve from the business of the rest of the resort, although during our stay it was never very crowded. The shops were fun. I'm not a big Disney person, but still found the place pretty fun to be around. I can see how people find it magical. It's a pretty positive place to visit. Wry little to complain about. I picked up a Storm Trooper figurine to bring back and a bag for a friend. And the monorail was an easy way to get around the resorts and Kingdom. Our team of trainers for the Leadership course were amazing. No small technical glitch could derail them, they were outstanding. The food was really good. Some of it outstanding as well. Beef tenderloin was tender, and the au jus flavorful and tasty. All in all, an amazing trip. Thanks Disney for keeping us comfortable!

Be the first to ReplyI've stayed in countless Disney properties over the past 30
I've stayed in countless Disney properties over the past 30 years and this is by far my favorite one. I stayed at the villas at the vacation club area and the room was phenomenal. The views were amazing, the balcony was huge (and a great way to see the musical boats at night) and the bed/pullouts were super comfortable. Everything here was superior IMO. The dining options were fun (Chef Mickey is my favorite character dining place for the kids), the easy access to the monorail is so key, and just being able to walk to the Magic Kingdom in 7 minutes is a huge plus too. The gift shops here were nice and even the arcade/game room was better than most resorts. Bear in mind it's pretty expensive to stay here so it's definitely a splurge for most people. But it's worth every dollar spent 100% for sure. I absolutely enjoyed every minute I spent here and also really liked the two pool options they have here (although the private/vacation club pool was a big small). All in I'd absolutely recommend this property. In our last visit we were at the villas in the adjacent Wilderness Lodge but I must confess I really missed this property whenever we passed by it (and visited once for dinner again at Chef Mickey's).
Be the first to ReplyComfy beds & decent room but SO LOUD.
At 11pm, there's a very loud parade outside the window. Walls are paper thin also. Not a good place to stay if you like sleep.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointed in service at hotel this year.
Arrived and our door key didn't work, had to tromp back to desk to get one. (Big hotel). Then paid for waterview and received basic view. Has to move next day, no offer to adjust fee or anything. Just overall wondering where Disney magic has gone, guess it woke up. Ha
Be the first to ReplyAlthough this resort is the closest to Walt Disney World it
Although this resort is the closest to Walt Disney World it seems to lack lustre and and life. The resort is outdated , dirty in appearance and really needs a facelift. We had a great vegetarian flatbread along with a nice wine here but I wouldn't bother going back. Pick a more updated resort with better amenities if this is your annual Disney vacation. The other resorts in the area offer much nicer surroundings and are worth driving or travelling a few extra minutes.
Be the first to ReplyWe didn't stay at the resort.
We only took now I forget what kind of transit to it so we could explore it for a moment and then ride the Monorail to the Magic Kingdom. We saw the cafeteria area, browsed some shops that didn't sell a single ballcap that won us both over, looked out the windows, and then we headed to the monorail. The monorail system has a security checkpoint and that made me more comfortable.
Be the first to ReplyThis place fell off a cliff in terms of quality.
We stayed one night in a theme park view room and the USB outlets didn't work, the coffee machine didn't work, and the toilet paper roll holder was falling off the wall. To add insult to injury we left a small makeup bag in the room with some earrings and things in it and surprise surprise nobody found it. It's the first time I felt regret tipping housekeeping because what's the point if they are going to just steal your stuff or do a bad enough job they don't see your bag on the counter of an empty bathroom. This used to be my favorite but right now even thinking about it makes me not just dislike the hotel but Disney as a whole. Save your money and stay somewhere else. Oh, and the rooms all stink like they spray some scent to try to cover up some other scent. It gives me a headache, they never used to do that.
Be the first to ReplyThe Contemporary has been a bucket-list hotel for me for
The Contemporary has been a bucket-list hotel for me for many years because of its iconic design with the monorail passing through its middle. It's one of the original 1971 Disney resorts, along with the Polynesian. As a Disney Deluxe Resort (the highest category), it's quite pricey. Fortunately, it was on our convention's hotel list, which gave us a reduced (but still high) rate. There are many perks to staying at a Disney resort as long as you're planning on doing a lot of Disney things. Disney resort guests have Early Access to Genie+ park and dining reservations, Early Entry to the parks in the morning, free parking at the resorts and parks, no resort fees, and Extended Evening hours (for Deluxe resort guests only). The Contemporary has the added advantage of being within walking distance (about 10 minutes) to the Magic Kingdom, with a separate smaller and less crowded security station. Being on the monorail line allows access to other Magic Kingdom resorts (Polynesian and Grand Floridian) and to EPCOT. The resort is comprised of the original A-frame structure, a 3-story South Garden Wing, and the Bay Lake Tower (one of Disney's Deluxe Villa/Vacation Club resorts). The hotel was recently refurbished to incorporate a Incredibles theme. Our room was in the Garden Wing, which is much quieter than the main building but only has 2 small elevators. Ground floor rooms have patios, 2nd and 3rd floor rooms have a sliding door but not a real balcony. Most rooms have water and/or pool views; those that face the parking lot I think get a glimpse of the fireworks. The room was fairly large with 2 queen beds plus a long sofa that held a single bed. There was a fridge and coffeemaker, no robes or slippers. The closet was a decent size. Towels are configured like Mickey when you first arrive. The bathroom was extremely well lit with 2 sinks, a large shower with 2 nozzles and a separate WC. I liked both the Incredibles and Monorail touches. Even with many child guests, the wing was fairly quiet, with any noise coming from the hall and not adjacent rooms. The Garden Wing had its own convenient parking lot that was never completely full. The hotel's pool area is not really themed but has a slide and play area for kids, a separate pool extending into the lake, plus a beach and a snack bar. Bay Lake Tower has its own pool. All the dining and shopping options are within the main building. The options are not extensive for a resort of this size. Three of the restaurants require reservations and are on the pricey side: California Grill and Lounge on the 15th (top) floor, Steakhouse 71 and Lounge, and Chef Mickey's (a buffet with Character interactions). Contempo Cafe is a fast-casual eatery which also has a "market" with numerous grab-and-go items. Hot food can be ordered to go. There's a small bar/lounge called Outer Rim and a coffee place near the entrance. We only had a few meals to go from Contempo, and they were quite good, especially the hot turkey sandwich. Overall a nice stay, if a bit overpriced. One must weigh the cost vs. the convenience of a stay here.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing.
This hotel has insufficient food choices. We have tried from 65 days before to get dinner reservations for a large party and checked daily at 3am; nothing. When we are in properly and split into smaller groups, 4, there were still not reservations to be had. The hotel recommended we get in their bus and try Disney Springs; sorry, but we are totally warn out and do not want a 30 minute bus ride. The hotel needs additional restaurants within the building. Also, filter the tap water for water and your ice; the water tastes horrible.
Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I stayed at this hotel in room 4744 for six
My husband and I stayed at this hotel in room 4744 for six nights, next door to my sister-in-law. The three of us found this hotel to be a very convenient base from which to visit all the Disney World parks. My sister-in-law had previously stayed at this hotel and recommended it due to location. Having a monorail stop on the first floor of the hotel is a welcome benefit when you will be walking 5-7 miles every day in Disney World. You save transport time by being close to Magic Kingdom and Epcot. We paid extra for rooms that looked in the direction of Magic Kingdom. Every night we had an opportunity to sit on our balconies and watch the wonderful fireworks show at Magic Kingdom (9 pm or 10 pm). We took the monorail to Magic Kingdom and Epcot. We took the bus to Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. The bus stop is right outside the hotel. The bus rides were not short. Our room was comfortable. We had two queen-size beds separated by a nightstand. The very long curving sofa probably could have sat 8 people. The sofa likely converted into a bed. The bathroom fixtures were up to date. There was a coffee maker, fridge, and closet. The balcony view was nice. I did not care for the Space Age futuristic decor in the bedroom. I rate the hotel room a 4. The California Grill on the top floor of the hotel is an excellent, top-notch very expensive restaurant with good service. Some tables have a view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks. We enjoyed our two white-tablecloth dinners there. I thought the food was better than at these sit down restaurants: the Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom, La Hacienda de San Angel in Epcot and the Brown Derby Hollywood Studios. Adjacent to the California Grill is a very narrow rooftop outdoor viewing platform from which apparently all hotel and restaurant guests can view the Magic Kingdom fireworks. It might be 50 yards long and 20 feet wide. There are bannisters so it is safe for all ages.We never tried the Contemporary's Steakhouse. The food/beverage offerings on the first floor of the Contemporary were a disappointment. The three spots are Joffreys Coffee, Chef Mickey, and the Contempo Cafe. The morning lines at Joffreys were so long I was never able to get a latte and pastry. Chef Mickey offered a sit down meal with table service, but was relatively expensive at breakfast. Disney costumed characters occasionally walk around that restaurant. We had early appointments in the parks and did not want to risk missing our ride appointments due to a lengthy Chef Mickey breakfast. We never ate there. For all six mornings we ate at the to-go restaurant, Contempo Cafe. The menu offerings were limited. You pay for your order, get a number, go to the small pickup counter to get your food, and then go find a table. The food was okay. One advantage was the free coffee refills. The main advantage of Contempo Cafe was that it was quick. This restaurant is very family friendly. I rate the Contempo Cafe a 3 or lower. The Contemporary has a tiny lobby with just a few chairs. Overall I rate the Contemporary a 5 due to location. If we visit Disney World again, I would like to stay at the Grand Floridian which appears to have more seating and common areas, more shops, and an appearance which is a little fancier and less child-oriented. Both hotels are conveniently on the monorail.

Nostalgic hotel that is a 10 minute walk to and from Magic Kingdom. Had a decent convention center, gift shops with purchase worthy trinkets, nice pool, and a gorgeous view of Bay Lake. For kids who wanna see characters, they are at this resort in the Chef Mickey restaurant. The following characters are present during certain times during the morning and early evening: Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, and Goofy.Only problem i had were:The restaurants - none of them tasted all that great. Except for California Grill, that was the only one i enjoyed.Lights - some of the lights in the room and bathroom kept making this ticking noise every 5 minutes. Overall, I would stay here again. Kept clean and i didnt hear any of my hotel neighbors nearby. Just wouldnt care to eat here.

The pluses: it has great access to MK and Epcot via monorails. And the views are fantastic, particularly if you get a room that faces MK for the fireworks show every night ($$$). The rooms are surprisingly spacious and the bathrooms are large and updated. The cons - it's really expensive and has a sterile feel. I couldn't put my finger on it but compared to other resorts, it was not a homey, comfortable resort. There's also the illusion you can control the temperature in your room with a thermostat but it has absolutely no function to make it cooler or warmer. The only thing that worked was the fan speed. It got down to 63 in our room one night and up to 75 another night and the display said it was set to 68. Also, I requested a king bed and when checking in was told there were only 5 kings on the property and our room wasn't one of them. For the amount of money we spent on the room, these are pretty basic features they didn't provide. They do have an excellent restaurant on the 15th floor with great views also; Just not sure it's worth the money.
Be the first to ReplyThe redesigned garden wing rooms are fantastic.
We had tons of storage for four adults. The beds are raised so large bags are easily stored out of the way. The bathroom is awesome with a huge shower, dual vanities and a separate water closet. Overall the property has a retro kitsch vibe. After all, it's fifty year old vision of contemporary. The artwork in our room and building all centered around The Incredibles. There's nothing like sitting on the toilet looking at artwork of a baby being being electrocuted.

This resort meets and exceeds all my expectations for a Disney world resort. We had a theme park view club level room. The club level offerings are well worth the price and very convenient. The room is newly remodeled and the view of the magic kingdom is phenomenal!!! On site activities are great even though we didn't take advantage of any of them. On site dining truly shines with steak 71. This is one of the best restaurants in all of Disney world. The 4th floor offers 2 huge gift shops with apparel, toys, souvenirs, and a market for everything u would need for your stay. The location is amazing with a 7 minute walk to the magic kingdom, truly priceless when ur trying to save time. Now the absolute best part of this resort is the staff. Every single staff member we came in contact with went above and beyond to be polite, professional, and to help us with whatever we needed. I really mean every member of staff. The desk people at the club level were amazing. The staff at club level kitchen were amazing. The housekeeping staff were amazing. The valet and front desk staff set the tone when we arrived and accommodated our every need. I'm already planning a return visit to this resort and this will be my number 1 pick when visiting Disney world. I hope this resort maintains its level of customer service, it will always keep me and other guest coming back.
Be the first to ReplyWorst hotel I ever stayed in 1000.
00 a night no service literally played the covid card 3 yrs after. No room service use a vending machine they said. Room is so out dated. If you go I'm sorry you will be shocked especially if your used to 1000.00 service. Equal to a motel just looks fancy. Can't even get milk for my child. Told you want a manager waste of time

Be the first to ReplyThe place hasn't been updated since 1980.
Old and smelly. Not worth the price. Better off staying at a local Courtyard Marriott or Hilton.
Be the first to ReplyI have never stayed at the Contemporary, but have eaten
I have never stayed at the Contemporary, but have eaten here a couple of times and explored the floors/amenities on offer - if I could afford the price tag, I would ;). This is one of the quintessential Disney World resort hotels located on the Magic Kingdom monorail route. You can choose to take the monorail or walk to the Magic Kingdom park - the walk is probably about 5-7 minutes, ~1200 steps, but after a long day I am sure it seems much longer. Rooms have been recently renovated to The Incredibles theming (an odd choice in my opinion, but it looks tasteful and not childish). Lots of unique pieces of Disney history here including the multi-story colorful Mary Blair mural. Certainly a place worth a visit, either by staying or just passing through.
