Cafe Maspero New Orleans Reviews from The Last Year
Great location.
Great food. Not Cajin not French, just real good food. Love this place. Good service and and a fun location. Bottomless Mimosas are the way to do brunch. Thanks for a great day.
Decent prices, especially for the location.
Gator app is amazing! It can get very busy, but it's a reliable casual option in the French quarter.

Came here for breakfast as it was just down the street from our hotel. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the food was delicious. Service was top notch, our server Christen was friendly, nice, and gave excellent recommendations. We ordered the biscuits and gravy (simple but good) the Atchafalaya (loved it and highly recommend it) , Bayou Benedict (also excellent), and the fried calamari (good but greasy). Get the jambalaya as a side it was like magic in my mouth, delicious!!!
Great service and breakfast.
Gerald the Kitchen manager was super welcoming and Chrissy was an excellent server. Will come back
This place is located near Jackson square and a short walk
This place is located near Jackson square and a short walk from the waterfront where the paddle boat is docked. It was crowded and the hostess said the food would come out quicker if I sat at the bar. I appreciated that suggestion. It wasn't a long wait at all for the food. The bartender was very nice and helpful with menu recommendations. He just wasn't that attentive. But it was because the bar was full and he had a lot to take care of. I ordered the crawfish Benedict. I was torn between the grits and jambalaya but I went with his jambalaya recommendation. This is an extremely filling dish. The biscuit was good but heavy. The crawfish cake and sauce were delicious. Very flavorful. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The jambalaya had a lot of chicken and sausage in it. The spice level was perfect.
Nice surprise! Good food and fast, friendly service!
The service was fast and friendly and the food was good! We stumbled upon this place and were just looking for a cool place to sit and get out of the heat. But I’m glad we found it. The gumbo was good and flavorful. Would recommend.
Cafe Maspero spoke to us so we headed there tonight.
It was delightful from the moment we sat down because the front and right side walls are actually doors that open. And there are large fans turning slowly on the ceiling, so there was a lovely breeze on this 85°day. It also opened up the outside world to people watching! Our waiter Sammy was eager to please and very good at his job. They have a full bar, and offer anything you would ask for, plus house special drinks. They also offer a nice variety of beer, in the bottle and on tap. We enjoyed a cold local favorite, Abita Amber on tap. It paired very nicely with our appetizer, fried alligator with remoulade sauce. I asked for it crispy and they didn't disappoint. It was very nice, with a flavorful breading and perfect with very tasty remoulade. My wife opted for crawfish Étouffée and since I couldn't pick just one, I had a flight of New Orleans delicacies. I ordered the Taste Of Cafe Maspero: All the bayou traditions: red beans & rice, jambalaya with chicken & sausage, chicken & andouille gumbo, or crawfish etouffee. You have the option to select 3 or all 4. Since my wife had Crawfish Étouffée, I had a flight of 3. The portions were perfect, just enough to give you the experience and share a bite. Not so much you are stuffed and unwell. We both selected a side salad with honey mustard dressing. The salad is basically Romain lettuce with a pinch of shredded cheese and tomato wedge. A bit of a let down honestly. The rest of the dinner did not disappoint! The red beans and rice tasted traditional and wonderful with a nice kick to it. The jambalaya was a also flavorful with just the right amount of kick. I am not a gumbo fan but ordered it as part of the trio hoping it would change my mind. It didn't, but I'll own that. I liked the crawfish étouffée as well, but the jambalaya and red beans and rice were the stars of this plate. Based on my tastes of course. The flavors of all of them were very traditional with just the right kick of spice, which I was looking for and therefore delighted to find. To finish off the evening we decide to round out our evening of traditional food with an order of the beignet fries. These were a nice twist on traditional beignet pillows but had the same dough flavor and avalanche of powdered sugar. The atmosphere was just great, perfect for this hot day, the full bar and beer choices were nice to see for groups who need the options, and the menu is full of all things traditional to dining in New Orleans. It also happens to be across from the Cafe du Monde, if a large order of beignets is the way you want to end your day, and the water front, a nice place to walk after a satisfying meal.
Walked in for breakfast not knowing what to expect.
I got the crawfish benedict and BOYYY I was NOT disappointed. It was so delicious. I didn't know what to expect but it was great. I got them with cheese and grits which was excellent! The sauce was good, the crawfish was good, the biscuits were good. It was a huge portion so I split it with the BF. We were full!!! Def on the heavier side of meals but totally worth it for the uniqueness of it.

I was able to order the taste of Cafe Maspero and had the four which was Red beans and rice, Jambalaya, Gumbo and Etouffe. And all were amazing. I was especially fond of the red beans and rice and the sausage. that had a slight char to it. Very nice and sad I ate it all. All of the others were great. I did really like the gumbo too. Jambalaya tases similar to me regardless of location. The Étouffée was also on point. I have this bookmarked and would not hesitate to go back.
Amazing
Amazing is all I can say. When you come to Mew Orleans. Make sure you stop in and say Hello to Joe the chef.❤️ Make sure you tip the lovely waitress.
First place we dined in New Orleans.
It was recommended by a local friend of mine. Quaint cafe a block from Cafe Du Monde. Staff were very friendly and assured me I could park on the street (got lucky with a parking space but wasn't sure if it was a legal spot). Crawfish cakes for an appetizer. Great crawfish flavor. Muffuletta was stacked higher than any I've had before and the olive salad had cauliflower and a really nice vinegar taste. I really enjoyed the red beans and rice. Perfect combination of gravy and whole beans and delicate rice. Southern Bourbon Peach tea was a little sweet for me and not as much peach flavor as I expected. Overall it was the perfect lunch to start off the weekend in NOLA.
Average at best
Food is average at best. Menu is limited. Tables are dirty. Service is slow. Did notice how most people did not finish their food. Had fried shrimp sandwich and frozen fries and it was $19. Very disappointed and kind of wanted to leave after looking at menu. Wish we had. Maybe just not my style of food.

I came in when they opened and the place was basically empty so I thought I'd get served quickly. The staff were doing opening chores while sitting their and watching small group of 7 customers they had. Finally the waitress who was just hanging out with the chef walked over after 20 minutes and handed me a menu, with no water or anything. She walked off and wrote down the order of the people who came in after. I ended up trying to wave her over to order and get water and she walked off. After sitting there for 40 minutes after opening I just left.
Good restaurant
Restaurant in the pulsating area of New Orleans with good cuisine. Excellent and fast service, ideal for a quiet evening.
Cafe Maspero
Stopped here for breakfast before shopping at the French Market. This is another classic NOLA restaurant with a few twist on the classic recepies. I had a Bloody Mary and although it was good, it was a tad less spicy than I prefer. Still a good offering from this place though. For an entree, I decided to ha e the Bayou Benedict. This is one of those twist I mentioned. In particular, we have a homemade biscuit which is split in two, atop that is a tender & well seasoned crab cake, atop that is a fried egg, overeasy, and atop that is their crawfish remulade sauce. All these ingredients made for a fantastic taste medley that I thoroughly enjoyed. I also chose a side of hash browns, shredded & lightly buttered. Very good food comes to mind when I think of Maspero. I'd definitely dine here again and I highly recommend all to do so as well. Our service was attentive but not overbearing, and our waitress was very good to us. This is another establishment that does not force gratuities on their patrons, thankfully.
The Bayou Benedict for breakfast
I stopped in while on a morning walk and had the Bayou Benedict with coffee. It was outstanding. Crawfish cream sauce over a crawfish cake & over-easy eggs on a buttermilk biscuit. Saved in my favorites!
Good food but beware of some of the portions
Good food, but beware what you order. While my food was good, it was not worth over 20$ nor was it really filling. However, my wife and friend ordered a poboy and burger and got much better portions for less.
It’s alright!
It’s a good atmosphere and a nice place. I have to say, I wasn’t completely sold on my steak, but to be fair, my friends have been happy with their food.
Great lunch!
We tried the NOLA special sampler with all the local Cajun dishes and each one was amazing! The service was slow, but they also didn't make us feel like we had to rush out when we were done. They let our dog come and sit near the sidewalk. Niec place for lunch, not fancy but it was delicious!
Good choice for lunch in the center
characteristic restaurant in the historic centre, we were curious to try the "muffuletta" which is advertised as an Italian dish, but which obviously doesn't exist in Italy! For the record, we later learned from Google that it is an "Italian sandwich invented in New Orleans"... exactly! However it is a "panozzo" filled with smoked ham and salami with a giardinera with oil and chopped olives. Very greasy, but I have to say good. However, a different flavor from the usual Cajun spices, which, although delicious, get boring after a fortnight. We also had a cheeseburger (good) and a beer (good). Clean place, friendly staff, good value for money. Recommended for a lunch in the historic center.
