Broke Da Mouth Grindz & Catering Kailua-Kona Reviews from The Last Year
Great Local Spot
This place RULES! The food comes out super hot as it is all made fresh and the wait was only 10-15 minutes around lunch time. Keep in mind that you cannot eat inside the restaurant itself, everything is to go now, but if you go to the nearby beach park and eat you won't be disappointed. Get the garlic chicken, I'm begging you.
Garlic Furikake Chicken, get it, period.
Combined it with the Adobo rice and Cucumbers.
Any place that has a name like that warrants a visit,
Any place that has a name like that warrants a visit, right? I guess we were lucky and came at the perfect time because there was only one person ahead of us. No dine-in option. It did take about 20 minutes to prepare our food, but there are signs saying it could take a while. We ordered the 2-choice mixed plate: the spicy garlic furikake chicken (no it wasn't too spicy) and garlic shrimp over adobo fried rice. I am so glad we shared because the meal was HUUUUGE! So much flavor in every bite! The garlic shrimp was delicious and even though the chicken was drenched in sauce, it was still crispy. The adobo fried rice took a back seat to everything else, so I would've been fine with just regular white rice.
Cool place to do a takeout.
In fact there are funny signs around the restaurant for bad mood, where to eat, and what the restaurant clearly does. They make great food. I ordered babimbap (forget the real way it was spelt on menu) with chicken and my wife ordered vegetarian. We went manta ray snorkling at 7:00pm, came back at 9:00 pm. Heated the food in the microwave and it was the best meal in 4 days. I was hungry after watching manta rays eat plankton for an hour. We also ordered their lychee lemonade in a jar. It went along well. I loved the way the chicken was cooked and the variety of vegetables it was served with. Came with plenty of rice and their secret sauce which I should have taken another serving. The drink was expensive ($8.50) but worth it after an hour in salty water. If you are going snorkling, this is the place to do a takeout. Loved it and will visit again.

Can't miss stop whenever I'm on the island! The spicy garlic furikake chicken plate with fried rice & kimchee cucumbers fed me for three days and was just as delicious at the end. LOVE LOVE LOVE
Their food game is very strong.
There is usually a line here so come before you're hungry so you can guarantee your spot and order what you want. When we came last year there was only takeout and no dine-in. They have fun specials and I highly recommend their three meat combo. We got the beef bulgogi, kalua pork, and garlic shrimp, which were amazing. The pork belly adobo fries are super delicious but may possibly spike your cholesterol levels just by looking at them. Literally not for the faint of heart. Definitely a spot worth trying if you're ever in Hawaii.
My husband got food poisoning from a hamburger he ate there.
On vacation and he's spent all night vomiting. I know it was that hamburger because he and I ate and drank the same things all day except for this nasty restaurant. DO NOT RECOMMEND
Expected so much more.
Maybe we just went on an off day for them, but our experience was far from 4.4 stars. For starters, the restaurant smells like a barn or a horse stable. Not the most appealing odor for a food spot. We ordered the garlic butter shrimp and some spam musubi. The shrimp was pretty flavorless other than the butter bath it was in, out of the three or four garlic butter shrimp dishes we've had from Hawaii this was the worst. The rice wasn't even cooked well. We got a side of the kimchi cucumbers and they were ok, salty as all get out. The spam musubi was even bad as it was 90% rice and seemingly no sauce. I hate to be a hater but when a place is so hyped up and falls flat, it's hard not to share. Paid 45$ for this and probably wouldn't buy it again for 10$. Hopefully just an off day for them, but this was our experience. Service was great though!
This was the first place we went to on the big island.
Literally got off the plane, rented the car and drove to Broke Da Mouth. We all got the garlic Furikake chicken. It totally lived up to the hype. Incredibly tasty, juicy, tender and crunchy on the outside. Even the sides like the kim chi, spicy cucumbers and the Mac salad were delicious. I wished we had gone one more time before heading back home. If I ever get to come back, this will again be our first stop!
Few things here were amazing.
I love spicy things but I'm always curious if they are going to be too hot. This was perfect. Service was great. My kids had an avocado burger which was also something they loved. We are here for 8 days and considering going back before we leave the island. FYI - We got here at 6:45 from the airport and they closed at 7. We had a big group so they put the closed sign up right as we went in. It was pretty busy the entire time we were there. We also ended up eating in the car because you can't eat in there, plan for that.
Broke Da Mouth Grinds is not open on Sundays or Mondays, so
Broke Da Mouth Grinds is not open on Sundays or Mondays, so if you're on vacation, the plan accordingly! We landed on Saturday, so waited until Tuesday to try it. At 4 pm, we thought there wouldn't be a wait, but we were wrong. There wasn't a line to order - you could order on the touchscreen or just walk up to order - we decided to do the latter since I had some questions. Then you just move over to the next area where there are a bunch of chairs (think doctor waiting room), and you just wait for your number to be called at the window. Customer service was good and it took about 25 minutes for us to get our meal. it was good, but not the best thing I had on the island. I was looking forward to how delicious it was going to be, but honestly, it wasn't bad, but maybe my expectations were too high? I got the panko fish (Hoki) and garlic shrimp combo with brown rice. I mean, it was kind of forgettable because I just had to look at my pictures to remember what I had gotten. The panko on the fish was still crispy. I think my husband got the Kalua pork and he said it was okay. I mean for a $50 meal for two people, and for all the times my friends said I had to try this place, I was expecting the best. I don't think I'd go back again - would rather try other stuff, but a lot of people seem to like it, so maybe I needed to try something else? I really wanted to love it!
BIG ISLAND HAWAII 2023 VACATION #10: WHERE'S THE OXTAIL ADOBO?
The title of my review is a play on the 1984 Wendy's commercial "Where's the beef?". Five years ago in May during my 5-day vacation at the Big Island I wanted to come here to eat. I was thinking about going to eat here on a Saturday during the day before my nephew's high school graduation that evening. Since my cousin and I were staying at Waikoloa Village I didn't think I would have made the full round trip in time to attend my nephew's high school graduation. However I didn't know that this place was closed on Sundays. Five years later I came back to the Big Island. I came here on a Saturday during Memorial Day Weekend. As with five years ago I would be attending another high school graduation on a Saturday - this time my niece. During my vacation I stayed at Kailua-Kona. This eatery is about an 8-minute drive from the hotel I was staying. I arrived about 10:30 AM and was the second person to enter the eatery after it opened. When I looked at the menu on the wall I noticed for the daily plates that oxtail adobo was not part of the menu. I asked the cashier and she said this eatery doesn't carry that item anymore. I was shocked because during an episode of Broke Da Mouth Grindz on "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" the oxtail adobo appeared to be the second most popular item after the garlic furikake chicken. I ended up ordering a 3-item lunch plate of garlic furikake chicken, pork fat belly adobo, and braised beef short ribs. The first item I tried was the garlic furikake chicken. The breading was crunchy with the seasoning adding a slight salty flavor. The second item I tried was the pork belly fat adobo. The meat was moist. The fat was rendered enough to be edible and reminded me of a braised pork belly Chinese dish. The sauce wasn't too oily. What was missing? This adobo wasn't the oxtail, which would have provided a different texture than the pork belly fat. The braised beef short ribs was the best item of the dish as it had a texture similar to brisket. In fact if oxtail isn't available then the beef short ribs should have been in the adobo instead of the pork belly fat. Normally I would rate this place three stars. However after five years of waiting not having the oxtail adobo menu is major disappointment. I don't know what the oxtail adobo would have tasted. From my experience at Broke Da Mouth Grindz the braised beef shortribs tasted better than the pork belly fat adobo. Without the oxtail adobo I stand by my rating as Broke Da Mouth Grindz could've have been better.
If your on a 30 minute lunch break i do not recommend.
...Food came out within 15 minutes...She bags it up and set it to the side until all the ticket orders were fulfilled.. She then puts all the bagged up food on a cart and wheels it over 10 feet to the pick up window where she calls out all the order numbers...My food sat on that counter at least 10 minutes before it got it.. she saw me standing there the whole time while she kept walking in and out of the kitchen talking to the cooks and playing on her phone.. They need to change the way they run things and maybe it wont seem like such a long wait... First and last for me....Back to L&L's I Go..
In Kailua Kona and this was recommended by a friend.
It's a takeout-only restaurant, so there are many seats inside while you wait for the order. It's a busy restaurant and seating area is full. Ordered the BBQ Chicken and Pork Belly Fat Adobo. Both are very good. These are dishes that make heaping rice a must! And that's what they offer - 2 scoops of white or brown rice and a side of kimchi, pickled cucumber, corn or macaroni. Sinful but good!
a pretty small establishment but a good variety of food and
a pretty small establishment but a good variety of food and drink items! the food also came out fairly fast for the amount of people who were waiting. we got the garlic shrimp, spicy chicken, and fatty pork. we definitely all agreed the garlic shrimp was the best--it had amazing flavor and texture. i liked the spicy chicken and fatty pork as well! both had unique and strong flavors that are very memorable. we also got the guava lemonade, which tasted so accurate and fresh. there's nowhere to eat inside, so we just brought it back to our airbnb, which ended up being a nice and chill time.
I don't know what the hype is all about.
Food is mediocre. Garlic chicken dry, fried rice tasteless, half the menu is either sold out or removed with their "updated" menu. Wait is 25-30 minutes with just 2 of us in there. 3 stars cause the lemonade was good but it is $7 I don't know I guess it's nice to try this place out. But it's a one and done.
We ordered several different plates.
Including spicy furikake garlic chicken (pictured), regular furikake chicken, garlic shrimp, and short ribs. The spicy chicken was definitely a hit! There is a kick of spice but not too much. The outside of the chicken was crispy while the inside was nice and soft. The only reason I'm not giving a 5 star rating was because the rice was dry. But if you mix in the Mac salad you're good to go because that was delicious too! The short ribs reminded me of ox tail. They were so tender and juicy. This was our favorite place to eat during our recent vacation!
Best food we had in Kona.
Get the fried chicken and adobo rice. We got the spicy one. It was seriously my favorite thing the whole trip. We also go an order of the shrimp. We got a couple sides too. The kimchi cucumbers were good, I wasn't a fan of the potato salad. BUT the tropical dream desert, YUM! It was huge and def enough to feed us all Pro tip. Order online so you don't have to wait inside.
The garlic chicken is a must! I get the mini and they put
The garlic chicken is a must! I get the mini and they put all the chicken on top a bed of french fries. I didn't think the chicken needed to be fire hosed with mayo so next time I'll ask them to hold the mayo.
So you can only really rate the food here.
As others have mentioned it is "to go" only. We ordered the spicy garlic furikake chicken with pork fried rice and the kids shared the BBQ chicken with Mac salad. We took our to go box to Ola Brewery just south up the hill (their kitchen was closed so we lucked out!). Food was super tasty. Just the right amount of breading and I loved the sweet and sour hot sauce that came with the chicken. The rice was pretty uneventful so I'd just stick with regular white or brown and don't pay extra. The kids got mango lemonade which one loved and the other thought "alcohol" was in it. overall, highly recommend if you're hungry. Not necessarily an out of your way stop though.
Five stars goes directly to the spicy garlic furikake
Five stars goes directly to the spicy garlic furikake chicken. The restaurant itself stinks inside and has no seating, it's takeout only. We seemed to get there at a good time (6 pm) and didn't have to wait too long. We tried the kalua pork as well, but I wouldn't get it again. The chicken furikake is where it's at.
I'm not sure why this place is so popular and has so many
I'm not sure why this place is so popular and has so many reviews. No better than Panda Express, only difference is here you wait 20 min for your food, can't eat it there, no restrooms, and located in a sketchy area.
Average
Very wall in the hole location tucked away with a simple logo. In a plaza, so plenty of parking, easy. No washroom and no dine-in tables, takeout only. Kind of a sour/musty smell inside, kids didn't like it so they opted to wait in the car. Really wanted to try the ube ice cream, but they only have a "feeds 3-4" portion size, and was too big for us. Instead we just got the garlic furikake chicken, spicy garlic butter shrimp special, and kalua pork. Overall, the food was just okay. The chicken was probably the best out of the three. The shrimp was over sauced and over fried, the kalua pork lacked flavor.
Broke Da Mouth is a must stop
After riding all the way from Waikiki on a Wednesday just to find out they are closed on Wednesday we went back on Thursday. So glad we did. We had the ribs and the fried garlic chicken (our favorite). This place was so good. We had the Kona Ice Cream Coffee Cake for dessert, OMG so unbelievably good. Guys, this is worth the drive (twice), believe me!!
Must have!!
My favorite Hawaiian fried garlic chicken!! Amazing sides as well, & must get the chili pepper water & lilikoi (passionfruit) juice. Quality, authentic, & big portions. No seating indoors or out, but bring it to eat by the beach and enjoy.
Ridiculously slow service
Waited over a half hour in line with only 2 parties in front of us and never put in our order because the person working was slow and had set urgency. I took a look around the few people who had already ordered all looked frustrated so I got out of line and left. 30 minutes of vacation were spent waiting in line when we could have been on the beach. Don’t make the same mistake.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
