all-vegetarian, modern, quite expensive Indian restaurant
The food and service were really good and the ambiance was lovely in this all-vegetarian, modern, quite expensive Indian restaurant with a bar, but the presumptive owner was not nice, which put a damper on the experience. (And I resent what too many fancy restaurants call an "SF Mandate Fee" (5%) --- these restaurants are required to provide healthcare for their workers or pay a fee, just as there are other requirements for businesses, including rent, insurance, electricity, wages, etc., but they are not required to charge that fee to customers, as they seem to imply. This restaurant also automatically adds a 20% service charge, yet still asks for an additional tip with the bill.)

One of the most delightful - and delicious - evenings we have had in a long time. Just about everything was excellent ... the staff is warm and welcoming, the atmosphere is unique and fun, and the food was consistently unique and delicious. Highly recommend this Indian vegetarian restaurant to to all.
Be the first to ReplyAverage Venue, Poor Service and Mediocre Food
I am an unabashed chaat aficionado. So, to find a Michelin-starred restaurant featuring chaat is a reason for celebration. We started with Sev Puri, following llp gin-infused Pani Puri and Dahi Vada. In short, the Sev Puri was not quite what i expected: a juicy, spicy, tangy melange of tastes and textures. It was dry, devoid of the sweet tamarind/date chutney which i love, and missing some of the sprouts, chick peas and finely diced onion which i expect. The Pani Puri was a bit better, especially after i ordered extra sweet chutney. The gin in the Pani (water) could hardly be tasted, but the Puris were crisp, round and free of the holes which can ruin the experience. The Dahi Vada were exceptional: unusual and very tasty. Remember to order extra sweet tamarind/date chutney! The Malai Kofta was good but nothing to write home about. The Baingan (eggplant) dish was good without being excellent, The mozzarella-infused โsweetโ garlic naan was exceptional! Not to be missed! Overall, good-ish food, but it seemed to lack soul. Not Michelin quality, not even Bib-Gourmand. Overall, run of the mill. I know the difference between attentive service and self-involved arrogance/negligence. I am sorry to report that one of the waiters, Christian, displayed the latter. Thankfully, we did not have to deal with waiter Christian after his attitude-infused initial order-taking and disappointing delivery of an incomplete order; the subsequent waiter was attentive and responsive. Overall a C, reflecting average venue, poor service and mediocre food. In sum, go elsewhere, save the time and trouble.

Amazing food and ambiance! A must visit spot for everyone in SF. The food broken down into 4 different regions from Gujrat is an excellent thought.
Be the first to ReplyHorrible staff, unaccommodating, non-kid friendly, pricey for such simple food.
I normally do not write a review but had to warn folks and so writing it. Frankly this was in top 3 worst restaurant experiences and is a complete rip off. The primary reason being that the staff are just horrible and there is no other way to describe it. We are a foodie family and dine regularly. I have not had this bad a service any where else in the world. We entered the place and it is actually split into two parts: the actual restaurant and an extension in to the lobby of the building. We were a family of 7 and were seated in the lobby and were offered only the tasting menu since we are over 5. We assumed that is outdoors since itโs technically outside the restaurant. The place was super cold and everyone seated there ended up wearing their winter coats. When I went to the front of staff and asked them to place a heater there, they told me that it is considered indoors and hence we cannot add a heater as it is a CO risk. That is pretty unacceptable as you cannot say itโs indoor and not have conditioned space. Itโs pretty much a code violation. Our daughter was hungry and the cold was making her cranky and so we asked them to move us into the other half but they refused to do so as it would be a hassle to rearrange the chairs. The staff was also rude about any request we made such as even getting an extra rice cracker. Also itโs NOT a kid friendly place. They do not have any considerations for kids and do not even for a kids menu. I wish they said something to that tune on their website or when we made the booking g over the phone. They do not even have a kids drink. Just super gingery sour drink which was from their mock tail menu. Eventually, I drove down to a local grocery store and got some drinks and food for my daughter. My daughter wanted a pink flower in her drink which she saw on another drink and they refused to give one as they said that it was only for cocktails and will not give any away. It was also communicated in quite a rude way. The food in the tasting menu was quite simple and the quality of food does not match up to the prices. They charge $70 for a tasting menu and frankly all of us were underwhelmed by the food. I thinks good if you are just 2-3 people and you get to taste a variety but not if you are 5+. For i g you to do only is a tasting at The staff also were very rushing us all the time which was annoying. We had a drink each and the bill came out to be $670 which for 6 adults and a 3 year old who did not eat their food is ridiculous considering what was served. I would avoid this place and go to a hole in the wall if you want good gujarati food or to other nicer indian restaurants if they want good service.
Be the first to ReplyTotal Surprise A Wonderful Restaurant In Most Unlikely Place
Tucked away on the edge of a desolate industrial area on the other side of Potrero Hill is a square block of high end loft apartments, the Minnesota Art Gallery complex and Besharam Indian restaurant run by the nicest Indian husband and wife team. She jus the master chef. Very trendy modern decor with punk art wall mural with Indian influenced subject. This, my first experience eating here left me in awe of the amazing food. Besharam serves food most of which I have never seen on any menu at any Indian restaurant before. A lot of menu selections to choose from on the menu of small and large plate selections which are intended to be served family style. Clean, fresh, tasty food that is beautifully placed and presented on each platter that came to the table. Outstanding were the Drunken Semolina puffs, Seafood Curry, Lamb Stew, Assorted Vegetables Tempura style, Chickpea Dahl and chickpea fritters. All had exceptional flavors and pleasantly spicy hot as to not overwhelm. Great service. Wonderful beverage assortment both alcoholic and non alcoholic. Be sure to stroll through a wonder mini park that is beautifully planted that is directly across the street from the restaurant.

We tried many small and large plates and each one was fantastic! It's hard to pick a favorite but the channa is a must. Everything was so flavorful with unexpected flavor combinations.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic modern Indian
Restaurant is modern and fashionable with a hip feel to it, but more importantly the food was superb. Starters and mains were excellent with a nice blend of flavors and just the right amount of spice. We had a nice squash curry that was great as was the spinach. Dessert was light and flavorful (a flavored not too sweet condensed milk with fruit)

Imagine this- a contemporary Gujarati restaurant in a newly emerging innovation hub of San Francisco. What you get is - Besharam, an amazing culinary fusion. At Besharam, each dish is crafted by the chef Heena Patel, ably supported in the management of the restaurant by her husband and a perfect host Paresh. The word โBesharamโ means Unabashed. A great ambiance, a creative menu of cocktails an food and company of young San Francisco Bohemia is a perfect setting for a guilt free indulgence in this new fusion of Gujarati tradition with contemporary ethos of the Dog Patch If you want to discover a jewel hidden away from touristy neighborhoods, go to Besharam.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Gujarati food
This restaurant is a neighborhood gem. They serve authentic Gujarati regional Indian food, which is very different fro the Northern and Southern Indian cusiines we are familiar with. Our cocktails, small plates and larger entree were fresh, tasty and seasoned beautifully., We ordered many dishes because we wanted to try EVERYTHING, took some home and were too full to eat dessert. The atmosphere is modern and comfortable, the service helpful and friendly. We were fortunate enough to have a warm (and educational) conversation with the owners, whose welcoming reception make dining here an experience we want to repeat - soon and often!
