Akase sushi restaurante Jerez de la Frontera Reviews from The Last Year
Creative but controlling
We came to this small restaurant (4 tables) for dinner, not quite sure what to expect. There are no menus, for food or for wine (you can look up the menu on their website.) Wines are recommended to you and the menu is degustation style, with lots of little plates which the chef decides. I didn’t feel able to say I didn’t eat meat but as there was only one tiny meat dish of Wagu beef, which I gave to my partner, it wasn’t an issue. Six interesting fish and seafood dishes to begin with which were explained to us in English at the table, I think a few things were lost in translation but on the whole helped us to understand the dishes. After this we had a selection of Nigiri sushi, that came 2 pieces at a time, 7 plates in total, with different raw fish on top representing different coastal areas, it was great to try some lesser known local fish species. We finished with 2 desserts, the first with goats cheese and Sherry flavours, and the second had more savoury elements to it. Overall we enjoyed our meal here, the chef is experimenting with flavours and textures and some work better than others. Personally I like to have a little more control and choice over what I eat, however I think degustation menus do force you to try things that you would never normally order which is a good thing.
Yes but no
Uneven experience. On one side of the scale, the food is very elaborate, delicious and in some dishes reaches excellence. Small portions even considering the standard of haute cuisine. Very good attention from the waiters, explaining all the dishes in detail. On the other hand, two details that do not correspond to the intended category. If on the establishment's page a menu of 15 passes at 65 euros is advertised, it does not seem correct that without any explanation, and due to much Akase philosophy, only 12 are served. Nor that tuna is not included in the walk along the Cadiz coast. almadraba (product not subject to the market) To the above we must add that even though the waiter's recommendation was magnificent, it is no excuse for not being offered a wine list.

Very elegant place, the atmosphere is very intimate to go in small groups. The tasting menu is very good, it has many soups and starters. The price is medium high, but it is really worth it. The accompaniment of the waiters is very good and they explain everything very well.
Very elaborate and complex cuisine that sometimes surprises
Very elaborate and complex cuisine that sometimes surprises. Excellent product quality, except for some discordant notes, which in our case was one of the star dishes: carabinero gyoza, very rough and not entirely fresh. The nigiris stand out with a spectacular fish of flavor and quality like a walk through the Cadiz fishing ports. What they call sushi outside of Japan, I would say that in 99% of cases they are dead and boring fish with dubious origins. Finally a good nigiri!!!!!The first cleansing dessert, great combining goat's milk ice cream with amontillado, sherry vinegar and salmon roe. Very pleasant service. On the negative side: upon arrival, total lack of information about the course of the meal and prices. It seems like they think everyone knows what an omakase is. Excessively cold decoration
Excellent experience
Excellent experience. An authentic Japanese/Andalusian fusion restaurant. The chef makes you live a gastronomic experience with excellent products from the region with touches of Japanese cuisine. Very attentive and professional service and staff.
More eating less theater
It is not what I expected, good food, better bites, but very expensive for what you receive, too much paraphernalia for either dish, we came out disappointed, the Japanese eat little and I repeat expensive and a lot of theater, very good service.
Sparse menu
Good service and food… but an omakase tasting menu for 55 euros is very very fair, I am not a person who eats a lot and even so the 13 passes seemed short on food and it was the first time I left a place with a tasting menu hungry.
Tasting of the essence of our Cádiz
Extremely pleasant simple place. The experience during the tasting is very good, where they explain the common thread of the dishes. Magnificent raw material and exquisite everything from start to finish. Much kindness and enjoyment of the simple and delicious cuisine.
Michelin star worthy
One of the best Japanese internationally. Every dish on the menu is incredible. Balance of flavors
Excellent value for money
We had been when it was a la carte and now we have returned with the tasting menu. We found everything to be very good and very careful and thought out. This menu for this price in Madrid would be unthinkable with this quality. Looking forward to returning in winter with a new menu
