This place is amazing!!!! This is some of the best food in London. I'm not normally even a big seafood person, but given the reviews and the fact it has a nice outdoor patio I thought we'd give it a go. So happy we did and can't wait to go back!We started with the cod croquettes. They were light and fluffy and the aioli was delicious. Next was the mozzarella and raw courgette. I was skeptical about the raw courgette but I loved it and ate more than my fair share. Next was the star of the night for me- the ricotta gnocchi. It was one of the best pastas I've ever had, and I wish I could recreate the sauce at home! Next was the second star- the baked cuttlefish pasta. Super skeptical here again because I normally don't like inked pasta, but my husband wanted it. It was sooooo good. We ended with an eclair and I was stuffed and happy! Can't recommend enough!

This is the kind of place you'd wish to see in Soho but find instead in a super residential part of Highbury off Holloway Road. The menu is chalked out on a large slate board on the west wall of the restaurant. The service staff is rushed but friendly. They know the food and give a fairly representative picture of the plate. Between the two of us we ordered 5 plates, two glasses of wine and paid £68 inclusive of taxes and service.1. Mojama with olive oil and almonds - 2mm thick dried tuna loin slices with olive oil and almond. The almond is nicely toasted so the crunch almost feels like hazelnuts or something with more flavour. The seasoning is all in the Mojama. There is no external flavouring or sauce.2. Jerusalem artichoke (JA) and soft boiled egg - a real winner and a great seasonal dish. Buttery JA purée, topped with a soft boiled egg and heaped with JA crisps. 3. Spelt, Pumpkin, Chestnut, Sage - Super hearty dish again, very well seasoned and the right amount of umami and creaminess in the pumpkin to keep you longing for more. The sage comes through in the pumpkin purée and the cereal provides you with a good bite throughout, to savour the dish.4. Seafood croquette with aioli - too much aioli for 2 croquettes, but great dish again. The seafood mix contains squid ink (unless I totally got it wrong and it's actually black garlic but I couldn't tell because of the aioli). Definitely try one - maybe ask for the aioli on the side 5. Baked crab and fideo pasta - Almost vermicelli like fideo pasta baked with a few pieces of crab but very flavourful probably because of a nicely extracted stock. Recommend this one but at £17, it's a tad steep. I'd go back and try more at this one. Great addition to the neighbourhood and highly recommended place in the Highbury area.

These guys must have visited some cities in the US for inspiration as this wouldn't look out of place at all in hipster Brooklyn, which makes it even more surprising to find such a gem in that corner of North London. Ambience, staff and service were absolutely excellent and it's a novel location really well turned restaurant. The only reason it's not 5 stars is that the food was great but not amazing and quite small portions, even for sharing dishes, making it relatively expensive.

I came here last weekend after hearing rave reviews from foodie friends about it... also it's less than 10 minutes from my house! The location is really random, actually. It's close to Arsenal Stadium, but on a residential road just off of busy Holloway Road, which is also rather up-and-coming in its own right. There is no sign indicating the restaurant, so you kind of just have to rely on Google Maps and know where it is. Most of the good restaurants in the area are on Upper Street, but that has turned rather chain-y of late. I've never been to its sister restaurant Primeur, also not far away, but Westerns Laundry is more seafood based, from what I understand. The menu is written on a blackboard and changes daily based on what's fresh, so I didn't see many of the dishes I had read about on the reviews. We were advised to order 2-3 small plates per person. We enjoyed a light mussel dish, some cod served with chard, but my favourite dish was the ox tongue that was braised to be completely unrecognizable as offal. It tasted like melt-in-your-mouth short rib or something! Totally amazing. We sat at a sharing table basically split into four, with 4 couples each having a corner, and we could see the oysters and the baked crab pasta were also very popular. The restaurant is pretty dimly lit and it's a great date spot. They also have some counter seating looking into the kitchen, and four spaces in the back for walk-ins. Usually when I have tried to get a reservation, they were fully booked so that is definitely good to know!
Be the first to ReplyTasty seafood menu.
Tasty and good atmosphere. Had raw courgettes, mint & goat's curd, whole crab mayonnaise, roast chicken, coco beans & rocket and finished off with peach sorbet & raspberries and a cappucino.
