Came here after visiting Boia de and absolutely loving it.
Walrus Rodeo lived up to its neighbor. The food was unique and everything was great. The carrot tartare is a must. The lasagna was outstanding. The short rib dish was good but the meat was cold which was a bit of a let down. Overall the restaurant has a great ambiance, the service was fantastic, and the food was delicious.
Be the first to ReplyMy expectations were high as Boia de is one of my favorite
My expectations were high as Boia de is one of my favorite restaurants in Miami, but I left pretty disappointed. I found a hair in my crudo all tangled in the fish, which was pretty disgusting. The only things that I really enjoyed was the pizza. Everything else was lacking a lot of flavor.
Be the first to ReplyIt's easy to see why this is such a highly rated restaurant.
The food will make your taste buds explode and the incredible service will make you feel like family.

Service was great and all items we ordered were excellent. To fill for dessert. The carrot tartare was delicious but the best dish was the bone marrow. I'm not normally a fan of bone marrow but this was outstanding. Lamb lasagna was good as was the short rib. Also had two pizzas. Margarita was ok, the bad joke was really good. All in all a great place!
Be the first to ReplyWalrus rodeo was overall a great experience.
The place is very unique in decor so make sure to check out the vibes before to see if you like it. It is casual and I think is great for date night or friends night out so you can share a few dishes. Dishes were very unique but for me some were a little bit strong in condiments such as the carrot tartare, which tasted too much like cumin. But since this is very subjective what I will say is that if you like bold strong flavors this is the right place for you. My favorite dishes were the crudo and the mushrooms They only have wine and beers and soft cocktails with sake and bubbles. Service was good. They took the time to explain the whole menu.
Be the first to ReplyFood Service Ambiance 5 stars all around.
Impecable service with probably the most enjoyable dining experience we've had. Will return to try the rest of the menu.
Be the first to ReplyGreat dinner with friends.
Definitely get the oysters! We also really enjoyed the caviar and black truffle za.
Be the first to ReplyUnequivocal 5 stars.
Someone knows what they're doing, and what they're doing is going to win them a Michelin star. The utmost care and preparation has gone into the dishes and the service. The servers are unusually well educated about the food and the wine list, and they are damned enthusiastic. I am too. This is the first Miami restaurant I've been to where they are really trying to do something new.

We sat at the bar on a Saturday night since we did not have reservation. This restaurant has an unique menu and the recipes are exquisites, the mix of flavors challenge your sensory perception and the presentation of the dishes are truly artistic. We had the carbonara and the anchovies pizza . The combination of the sweetness of the pizza crust balanced with the rich and strong flavor of the anchovies is very balanced which gives a treat to the palate . The pizza was cooked perfect and we truly enjoyed it . The carbonara has cabbage instead of pasta and the mixed cheese with its rich and creamy flavor, and pancetta make this dish a must when dinning at Walrus Rodeo. We did not have dessert because we had no room left .. Shawn, our server and the bartender as well, was very busy, but he took the time to explain every dish and the cocktails as well. He was very knowledgeable about all the ingredients and his comfortable tone gave us the chance to inquire about some of the other dishes the and the signature mixed drinks . Kristy, the GM, took the time to talk to us for a bit and made us feel at easy. Overall, it was a great experience.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is a very nice looking TRAP, let me explain
This restaurant is a very nice looking TRAP, let me explain the reasons in the most objective way possible: -AESTHETICS: The name itself Walrus Rodeo is very cool. Like the wallpaper, the ceiling and the furniture. Yet it is only the beginning of how the owners feed you with a creative concept which will fail to delivery in consistency. - COCKTAILS: I found it very inspiring to make cocktails based on the fact that they don't have a license for spirits, using only wines and vermouths. The cocktails were good, yet missing the buzz factor so you feel the need to order more, which I didn't. -MENU: Usually we order pretty fast, but somehow the very well graphically designed menu and the intricate dish names made me wonder what to pick. We ordered after 20 mins of dwelling over the dish descriptions. Even more shocking when we saw the pizza section going till $199. -SERVICE: The waiter was very kind, although the more she continued to describe the plates, the more we became confused. Since we didn't know what to get we asked to order 2 dishes and then to add something later based on how we felt. She declined the possibility saying "You HAVE to order all at once." Not a comforting feeling I'd say. -We chose these 3 dishes: -TURNIP SALAD: very nice dressing but very overwhelming. Fresh at the beginning, but I would have preferred to have it next to the other dishes, again not possible since it arrived first by itself. -LAMB LASAGNA: pleasant and since we were hungry we devoured it, but it was incredibly salty and super tiny. It only had 2 thin layers and the spinach pesto on top, although nice was overtaking the flavor of the lamb. The Parmesan cheese on top (only one side, weird) was more salt on top of an already salty dish. -RODEO ZA PIZZA: weirdest selection of flavors EVER. Between the Chicken Sausage (cheaper alternative for pork sausage), and the anchovies with breadcrumbs and uber expensive caviar (from $85 to $199), we chose the Rodeo Za. The first bite was interesting, between salty and sweet coming from the maple glazed crust, but after second slice I was done. -DESSERT: We skipped dessert since we felt the american pie made of churros and liquid chocolate would have been another strange experience like the pizza. BILL: the cherry on top -Vero Water..a fancy tap water name: $1 -Healthcare Service charges: 2%..with the addendum at the bottom basically making you feel bad for refusing to paying for it. *Beware, you can ask your waiter to remove it and tell them straight to their face that you don't want to contribute to their health coverage. I mean what type of person does that to their employees? Get a grip Owners. Don't contribute to turning Miami into a gimmicky take on hipster Brooklyn without the actual food expertise of NY.
Be the first to ReplyNow this is one terrific restaurant.
Best service we have had in Miami and the food is absolutely fantastic, beginning with the carrot tartare which is life changing

Amazing experience from friendly hosts & bartenders to delicious & unique dishes, great wine recommendations this place has it all! Trying the pizza & saving room for dessert next time!
Be the first to ReplyPlace is nice.
Service was very good. The food was not to my liking. Very avant garde. Everything tasted about the same and was green. I enjoyed the dessert.
Be the first to ReplyWhy was everything on the menu fermented?? Everything on
Why was everything on the menu fermented?? Everything on the menu came with a singular overpowering taste of sour or bitter. The only exception may be the oysters, which were the first we tried from the menu. Then it went downhill from there. The carrot tartare was different, but not inventive. The bone marrow tasted like it was doused in fish sauce. The chicories were quite bitter. Turnip salad bleh. Halibut puttanesca was fine. Cabbage Carbonara sour. Lasagna sour. Proper Italian za, good but didn't hit any spots. The short rib was cooked extremely well but also had some accompanying sour taste. Service was extremely attentive but there was absolutely no flow to when the plates were changed and why dishes were approached to be taken away. To end on a good note though, the bathroom decor was quite whimsical and enjoyable. Le Labo soap and candle, and thick hand towels made that experience quite nice.
Be the first to ReplyImmediately my favorite Miami restaurant.
Highly recommend the pizza but even more, get whatever your waiter recommends. It's another massive success (and potential Michelin star) for the Boia De group. More low key then high key, more weeknight date then weekend date (you could do both flawlessly, just trying to say it's a tad more casual then its sister restaurant). We will be coming back as soon as we can get a reservation!
Be the first to ReplyUnique restaurant with decent food and service.
I had a problem securing a reservation after I thought it was booked, and after going back and forth via email, the restaurant was finally able to accommodate me. Even with a reservation, we waited awhile to be seated. While waiting, I had the Sour Grapes Cocktail, which was very good. If you are questioning ordering the Carrot Tartare, I would say to order it -- light, interesting dish with good flavor. The Charbroiled Oysters were fantastic. The Prawn Puttana was nothing special, especially for the price. The Schmaltz Roasted Maitake Mushrooms were good as was the Cabbage Carbonara. I was very disappointed with the Potato Gnocchi -- the leeks overpowered the $45 dish. The Rodeo Za was a unique and flavorful pizza. I was not impressed with the s'mores dessert. PS the bathroom is pretty cool.
Be the first to ReplyThe much anticipated carrot tartare tasted like.
.. carrots. As much complexity to me as carrots and hummus. Totally overrated. But the mustard green lasagna with lamb ragu was perfection. The only criticism is it had carrots in it and I just think carrots in lasagna is weird. They can't offer real cocktails bc they don't have a liquor license so everything is made of sherry or vermouth. I'm not a fan of either, but they were creative and the drinks were pretty good -- i got the sour grapes and bolo tai to be exact.A really cute couple I was sitting next to let me have a slice of their pizza and it was TO DIE FOR. I think the best pizza I've ever had. The even put avocado in the crust-- yummm. And I'm not even a crust girl. I wasn't crazy about the dessert -- busta rhymes or something like that (incredibly random name that feels a little bit like they're trying to hard) that's basically a few churros with seared whipped cream and chocolate sauce on top. But I'd def come back to try the quail and bone marrow. The ambiance was cool. They play a lot of old school hip hop and soul/funk. And they have a chefs counter (where I sat) as well as a bar. The service was cool too. Really nice Italian guy (cute too). Relatively attentive although I do feel like the diners around me were checked in on a bit more.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding place from the time we were greeted at the door.
Super friendly staff and they knew their stuff. This was an amazing food experience. It honestly wasn't even as expensive as you would think. Servers suggest each person ordering 2 or 3 dishes which are shared. Most things are made using their wood burning fire oven. Some dishes / carrot tartare, rodeo za (pizza), maitake mushrooms, cabbage carbonara, chicories. All the individual ingredients were fresh and dish presentation was first rate. The food was out of this world and this is a must try! Great vibes. Plenty of parking in front of the restaurant in the parking lot.
Be the first to ReplyAnother excellent restaurant where Chef Jeff Maxfield is
Another excellent restaurant where Chef Jeff Maxfield is currently entertaining us with his delicious dishes... I finally got to try it tonight and am so pleased with his work!!! I followed him around miami for the past 5 or 6 years and love his food!!! I sampled three of his creations and am glad to say I was not deceived!! Excellent Pineapple Quails, Prawns puttana and a delicious Bagna Cauda bone marrow... love love love it!!!!!!
Be the first to ReplyI am a massive fan of Boia de and this place didn't even
I am a massive fan of Boia de and this place didn't even come close. That said I wanted to respect this for the standalone restaurant that it is. So let's take a look how they did. Service: amazing. Friendly waiters and staff. Couldn't be nicer and easy to get along with. Loved it. Ambiance: eclectic, but fun. Loved the Tom Dixon lamps. Much bigger than Boia de which is cramped for space. Good for a small group or a date night, though the music could be softer. Food: massive disappointment. I really really wanted to like this place. They make a carbonara without pasta and a lasagna without pasta! Their pizza or "za" uses my favorite sausage place sausage ( proper sausage) and stuffs their crust with avo ca do! C'mon now! That said the food fell flat. The dishes didn't quite reach the aha moment where you taste something and it transcends you back to some favorite memory. The food doesn't get down to your soul and grips and and forces you to evoke emotions which just have you going for more. The food while innovate is soulless. Flavors paired together in ways that should make sense but the execution fell flat. The flavors fell flat. Ultimately the food was just blahh.Kampachi: loved the concept, however the crispy rice in it was wayyyyy too fatty and I could taste an oil with a not so gray after taste. Maitaki mushrooms: way way way too much acid. When I think schmaltz I think umami creamy delicious. The acid ruined the dish and took away from the creamy they tried to create w the beans.Carbonara dish: not bad. Flavors not bad, but the fattiness overruled the cabbage. Carbonara can be carbonara bc the pasta is able to stand up against the fattiness of it all. The cabbage lost the battle and just got roped into this plate of fat, while delicious , it was too much and failed to recreate the memory you have of eating a carbonara. Quail: I see the chef wanted to go towards the Caribbean and picked up some jerk seasoning. Sadly the jerk seasoning was just mehh, while the qual was perfectly cooked, the pickliz were mushy with not enough punch to create a balance.Green whatever pizza: I mean the crust was nice. Good dough. The pizza isn't memorable for me and again lacked the soul of me feeling like I was eating a pizza. Gnocchi: mushy mush. Good flavor of the leek and onion but sadly too powerful for the delicate truffle. It was a clash between those two and sadly the onion, while delicious, won ever single time you combined the two. Which begs the question, why even place truffle on it? Why not make it a crunchy component that compliments the onion? The dessert: whatever this churros were, they were bomb and I enjoyed this. Will I be back? Sadly I won't bc I rather spent my money elsewhere where I leave satisfied and eager to have a certain dish again. I hope they improve bc the concept is cool, the execution at this point just lacks.
Be the first to ReplyIf you're looking for a unique and delicious dining
If you're looking for a unique and delicious dining experience in Miami, look no further than Walrus Rodeo. Tucked away between Upper Buena Vista and Little Haiti, this restaurant exceeded our expectations in every way. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcome and taken care of. Even though we didn't have a reservation, the hostess found us a seat at the bar and we were immediately greeted by the friendly bartender. He made great recommendations and made us feel right at home. The food at Walrus Rodeo is a fusion of contemporary American and Italian cuisine, cooked in a wood oven that adds a delicious flavor to each dish. The standout dish of the night was the lasagna with lamb ragu. It was perfectly balanced, with a crispy top layer and tender lamb that melted in our mouths. The carrot tartare was another standout dish. The chef's creativity and attention to detail were evident in every bite. The carrot was cooked in five different ways and served with a flavorful dressing. It was truly a Michelin-grade dish. The quails were a delicious dish, very tender and beautifully cooked in the wood oven. The pickled pineapple slaw added a nice acidity to the dish. The mushrooms were also a winner. The char plus the black beans and the tenderness of the mushrooms were fantastic. The radish salad was another surprise, with the radishes cooked two ways and served with a delicious ricotta base that was locally made. It was a refreshing and light dish that complemented the other dishes perfectly. The shrimp puttanesca the classic flavors executed perfectly, with the heads left on for extra flavor. Maybe a couple of bread slices would have been a nice addition to do some 'scarpetta'.The only downside to the meal was the price of the wine. While there were plenty of options, they were quite expensive. However, the GuÍmaro from Ribera Sacra that we chose was a great match for the different food options.Overall, our experience at Walrus Rodeo was wonderful. The dishes are meant to be shared, so it's a great spot to go with friends or family. The service was impeccable and the food was outstanding. Highly recommended!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was incredible, I was recommended to try the
The food was incredible, I was recommended to try the oysters, lasagna, and mushrooms by the bartender Shawn- everything melted in my mouth. I also tried the carrot tartare and have been dreaming about it since last week. The service was superb, our waitress was very attentive as were the food runners. The ambiance was perfect, I loved the music and the decor, I even remember making a comment about how beautiful the plates and bowls were. I want to come back every day and have already recommended to all my family and friends. Great spot.
Be the first to ReplyWent to Walrus Rodeo without any expectations.
Pleased to say this spot is 10/10. Pizza is on point (we got the Fugazi Za) and the Carrot Tar Tar is top five dishes we've eaten in Miami. A must try. The Schmaltz Roasted Maitake Mushroom dish was the silent sleeper. We would literally come back just to taste this again. Decor is fantastic. And really the most important piece that brings it all together is there service. Meghan was just a gem. Can't wait to go back and try everything again...
Be the first to ReplyTLDR: fun new American restaurant! I would rate this spot 4.
5 with some points off for value. Meaning, I'll be back for an occasion but I won't be running. Everything here has been touched by fire in some way. I loved this spot because the service was so friendly, the dishes were fun and interesting, and just overall good vibes. I'm honestly a sucker for fun new American food, and so I'm glad this spot entered the food scene. Though, I wouldn't recommend this spot to anyone looking for traditional flavors. FOOD * bone marrow: one of their NYE specialities. I'm a complete sucker for bone marrow and the sauce on top was * chicorie: This was suggested by the waiter to cut through the heaviness of the rest of the dishes. Would get it again (surprisingly since I don't usually order salads) if I wanted some greens. However, I could also do without it. * Cabbage carbonara: did NOT expect it to be cabbage based instead of pasta haha. But it was still good! Creamy cabbage.. so it's on the heavier side but I loved the flavors. * Corn on the za: pizza with corn (always a win) and lime pieces which I thought completed it so well since I get tired of heavy dishes pretty quickly usually AMBIANCE there was a good mix of casual to dressy so come as you please! It's dimly lit inside for good vibes. SERVICE Service was personable and so friendly. You don't feel rushed while eating.
