Honestly the worst tasting menu I've ever had.
One of those restaurants that's interesting for the sake of being "interesting" instead of being delicious.Usually at the end of a tasting menu we'll talk about our favorites, but at the end of this one there was no real favorite.Their "signature" dish (the one which hasn't left their menu) is ravioli with barely any filling and an extremely bitter salad. Why? Not sure.Every dish tasted off and super funky - nothing was filling or all that flavorful, and I really didn't want to finish anything.Would recommend saving your money for a different Michelin meal

Venissa is an amazing Michelin star restaurant on the island of Mazzorbo (next to the island of Burano). This was my 2nd time going for the 7 course dinner (which they drive you to / from Venice San Marco via water taxi). The meal isn't cheap, but as far as fine dining goes this is one of the best options in Venice.Food 4.5/5: We had the vegetarian 7 course menu, which Venissa does very well. You can taste the freshness of their ingredients and they do a great job of serving traditional dishes with unique flavor profiles. Some of the highlights to me were the bitter greens empanadas, crouton cracker with cabbage and mushrooms, and the wormwood ravioli. My only criticism would be the desserts, which I thought were a bit weak compared to the rest of the menu.Service 5/5: Venissa service and location is amazing, as you'd expect for a restaurant of this caliber. The service is attentive, prompt, and very accommodating. Ask them to talk to you about their golden wine!

Preface: It is hard to believe that just three weeks ago I was walking the ancient streets of Venezia enjoying the beauty of its culture and hospitality of its people. Warm, welcoming, deeply protective of their culture. It is so tragic to see the damage from the record setting acua alta and heartbreaking to think we who have laid eyes on the beautiful city are all responsible for its slow death. Thoughts and prayers.*****A Michelin one that exemplifies the passion and pride of the Venetian people.Outstanding food, yes, but Venissa is most famous for the rare and unique wine produced on the estate. Dorona di Venezia, the indigenous grape of Venezia. Re-cultivated from only a few surviving ancient vines. Today, the only vineyard, one hectare of salt tolerant vines that produce a mere 3500, 500ml bottles a year. It is bottled in Murano glass with the gold foil labels created by the last remaining family of smiths in Venezia. Mention it to any Venetian, they beam with pride that this is a part of their culture.Orange in color, slight hint of oxidized citrus notes and the faintest touch of salt. Racy acidity balanced by high alcohol (13 percent). Beautiful complexity with a finish that goes on and on. Pairs well and evolves with food. The red wine, from a very young vineyard on the mainland, a Bordeaux blend (80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet) is reminiscent to a young and sexy Saint Emilion. Restrained fruit, silky smooth tannins, some aging potential. To the food . In a word, outstanding. Seasonal, inventive, treated simply to tease out flavors. For example, deep-fried, flour dusted sardines, head and bones removed, are served atop a beet root purée. The sweetness of the fish is enhanced while the oceanic flavors pair with the earthiness of the beet. The second sauce made from squash does the same with nod to the season. Another example, a sublime squid ink pasta with mussels. Briny pasta with citrusy notes reinforced by the mussels and balanced by rich, peppery extra virgin olive oil. Finally a pan roasted, crispy filet of blackfish. Perfect cook to medium. The clean tasting fish balanced by a highly glutinous potato puree seasoned with lemon alongside bitter chicory. Each component alone good. Together, brilliant! Excellent, friendly and proper service. Stunning indoor / outdoor dining with views of the vineyard. Reservations required. Fluent English.A must visit.

Made a reservation at this 1 Michelin star restaurant in mazaretto. They have own vineyard where they make their own wine, and grow their own herbs and vegetables.Nice scenery while eating. Wine was tasty. Didn't end up getting prefixe menu but got a la carte pasta with langoustine. the shrimp was raw in a perfect al dente spaghetti. they give you bread and amuse bouche which are so delicious. it is quiet and very relaxing, away from the busy Venice island.

I finally made it to Venissa restaurant and they did not disappoint. A 5 star experience! The design and layout of the restaurant was magnificent the screened in patio is set looking into the vineyard and view was breath taking (I suggest dining at sunset it's gorgeous) Thr staff was phenomenal the entire team was part of the dining experience. Each person was hospitable and had a true passion for creating a memorable visit. The amuse-bouches were artfully displayed and tickled my palate, the flavors and textures were delish and thoughtful. My entree' was the spaghetti with green tomato and raw fish(my memory fails on the type of fish)it was a flavor explosion my tastebuds will never forget. So inventive and balanced I loved it. My dessert was a play on savory and sweet with red pepper and ricotta goat cheese ice cream and powdered herbs, shear genius. I hope to return and have a full tasting menu. This was truly a treat to dine at a restaurant were the chef actually gets your palate and pleases it perfectly.

We spent an afternoon eating and drinking here for an extravagant lunch and it may be my best restaurant experience ever.It was a hot day and we stopped in for lunch; we intended to eat at the more casual Osteria but it was closed so we decided to splurge. The place was wonderfully cool and we could look out on the vineyards. The service was excellent and accomodating, they explained each dish and each wine, and took special care to ask any preferences we had. They made sure we like cuttlefish as apparently its common for Americans to dislike it (we'd never had any but the cuttlefish course, served with its ink and a lemon cream, was excellent)We went for the 7 course lunch with wine pairings; enough to feel like definitely enough food, and while away three hours or so (a much better way to spend three hours than fighting the crowds and pigeons in the tourist districts!). My favorite course was perfectly cooked quail with plum, the meat was so tender and juicy and the skin just the right amount of crispy.I now highly recommend Venissa when friends visit Venice, its a wonderful celebration of food and wine worth going out of your way for! It makes the visit all the way over to Burano worth it

.Two years ago we had traveled to Italy and explored the Prosecco region. We had a tasting at Bisol that was positive and unforgettable. During this visit to Italy, we found out that they had an actual restaurant near Venice. Since we were in Venice for a few days we decided to visit, spur of the moment. We were in Burano and crossed over the bridge to Mazzorbo. We didn't make a reservation and we had just eaten, so we really just wanted to get drinks. We walked through the garden area and towards their outdoor seating. They told us that the area was only for dining. We would have loved to try it if we hadn't just eaten. They directed us to another patio area for drinks. The server who had asked us for our order was kind at first. We both ordered a glass of Bisol Prosecco and sat outside. After that one glass, the server seemed to be non existent. Given that there was only one other couple in the area, I was surprised at the lack of attention. When we did get his attention, he was nonchalant and standoffish. We decided not to order another drink and just ask for the check. When we did, he was very rude to my husband.I am sure it was just our server, but unfortunately, the visit left a bad taste.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible, overall.
Would highly recommend this to almost anyone who is in the market for a 100-300 euro dinner per person. Everything we had was absolutely incredible, and left nothing to be desired. The service was prompt, and they were very friendly. All of the food looked like it was a museum display, you almost didn't want to eat it. The view of the vineyard is quite nice, and, while we didn't eat inside, that atmosphere seemed nice too.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food and great service.
Worth it if, but only if, you can spend 300 euros on a dinner!
