This was just a great experience! Came here with a few friends. It's much more casual vibe than most omakases but don't let that fool you: the quality and flavors of the food was excellent. I won't spoil too much but I am still dreaming of that snow crab. The dinner lasts about 2 hours. It's BYOB but they also serve you house sake! Considering the food, ambiance, and sake, I'd say this is one of the best omakase deals in the city. Looking forward to returning!
Be the first to ReplyGreat omakase spot.
BYOB but they do serve sake throughout the seating. I loved that they told you how to eat each dish (chopsticks, spoon, right away, etc). Everyone there was so friendly and nice and we had a phenomenal experience. The food was also so yummy. I heard they used to do a little more of a show and this felt pretty simple. Also would love a tiny bit longer of a service - more time between dishes and more time before clearing dishes. All in all would absolutely come back for another special occasion, this is a fantastic establishment!

U Omakase is a hidden gem!! The omakase was fantastic, it had classics and some more unique dishes as well - all were executed perfectly! My favorites were the crab, the clam soup, all the fired sashimi pieces, and the crispy crab and shrimp dishes. Everything was also beautifully plated, and had more attention to detail than I've seen at multi-Michelin star places! This is also one of the few places I've been to in the U.S. that had the essence of sushi you'd find in Japan. The chef + staff were so attentive and fun to talk with, and overall all the vibe was classy but fun and not uptight. They provide free flowing house sake and it's BYOB too :)
Be the first to ReplyThis was my second time coming to U omakase and the staff
This was my second time coming to U omakase and the staff here is always so sweet. The food is great and you can tell that the fish is fresh. Each dish was delicious and plated beautifully. There were 5 birthday celebrations this past weekend and Chef Louis made sure that we all felt special with a cake and a shot of nice whiskey, which was really sweet. In terms of the vibe, the space is intimate and I love the middle bar table that allows you to see everyone dining. Right next to the dining area is the open kitchen concept and you can watch the chefs cook and plate. I highly recommend U Omakase to anyone that loves sushi and Japanese tapas.
Be the first to ReplyReally enjoyed my experience at U Omakase.
We went for date night Friday night and managed to grab a 6pm seating. The staff was friendly and kept the sake pouring. We had brought a bottle of wine which they kept cold and made sure we were always topped off. The food was amazing and presented so beautifully. It felt like each piece was a work of art. The chef's tasting menu was just the perfect amount of food. We can't wait to come back.

A spectacular meal: innovative, fresh, excellent sense of flavor combinations and textures, wowie. Luis has game. It's one of those old-school vibes--you remember, the kind of fine dining where they care about their customers? And also keep to their own standards? The staff was super too, btw. We'll be back. Thanks for the reccie, Em.

Seems a bit hole in the wall-ish since it's covered in drapes and has exposed brick/scaffolding inside. I liked the seating situation a lot. It is BYOB and they will kindly chill your drinks for you. Staff were all very kind. Just wish they gave advice on how to eat (in what order, versus with hands or chopsticks) prior to eating dishes. They would tell us after we did it in the "wrong way" I guess. I would joke that I was being bullied for this. Food was delicious, but I did feel it was heavy on the salt at times. Pretty good omakase imo.
Be the first to ReplyOverall: relaxed atmosphere, exquisite dishes, smooth
Overall: relaxed atmosphere, exquisite dishes, smooth service, and did I mention- EXQUISITE dishes. Probably one of the best omakase experiences I've had in New York City. The ingredients were varied and fresh, especially given that they were seasonal. The flavors were rich, fun and rounded, sometimes hearty and sometimes pure. And the menu design was thoughtfully balanced, leaving you full but also wanting more. What stood out to me was how almost every dish had just the right amount of a much welcomed twist, despite being grounded in traditional omakase. Whether it was the soup or the sushi, the courses did not shy away from layering in a variety of textures, tastes and techniques, many of which surprised me. For instance, the buttery flavor in the soup, the crunchy texture of the chili and fried shallots on the salmon, or even the warmth of the shoyu on top on the sushi. (And if I even remotely think about the foam-topped lobster bisque that probably married flavors from god's garden, I'll probably go bankrupt.) As I was eating, each new found detail was a gift unwrapping itself in the dish for some flourishes beyond just completion, to much of my delight. This fusion-like approach, while very different from traditional omakase, was a refreshing experience, definitely one to remember. Bonus point: they introduced every staff and every chef involved in the beginning, (even our guy in the back doing dishes! Real MVP), a small team that seems to have care and respect for one another. What can be improved upon: more space for coats and handbags, print out the daily menu (PLEASE)

Be the first to ReplyI came here on a whim since I'm looking for a local
I came here on a whim since I'm looking for a local Brooklyn spot with high quality fish and good flavors. This place has a chill vibe and they have unlimited sale with your meal which is definitely a plus. I got there a bit late due to parking mishaps. So I got everything but the oyster and nothing was given to replace that one dish. The owners are super nice and are on top of the game and customer service . The highlights of the meal were the toro, wagyu, scallop and blue fin scoop. Some of the pieces had too much wasabi for me and one dish had too much finishing salt. But I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The dessert at the end really hit the spot and was a nice touch. I think I found the fresh sushi spot and I will return again to see Chef Yasu. One thing to note this is not your standard omakase with a sushi bar in front of a chef and mostly pieces, but this is a great chefs choice nonetheless.

Came out for a friend's 40th for a special dinner experience. Each dish was unique and delicious, the chef was very accommodating of food restrictions and our server was on top of everything, my glass was never empty :). On top of it all, I love that the outside is quite plain (you almost feel like you're at the wrong place) and then you enter into a little oasis. Absolutely coming back.
Be the first to ReplyAs much as I'd love to keep this place a secret so I can
As much as I'd love to keep this place a secret so I can have a better chance of securing reservations, U Omakase is just too wonderful to gatekeep. The food is beautiful, adventurous, and delicious. They were experimenting with an octopus/olive dish while we were there and, as someone who usually despises olives, it was one of the tastiest bites of food I've ever had. We literally licked our plates. In addition to the quality and caliber of the food, what takes the U Omakase dining experience to an entirely new dimension is the staff. They are beyond delightful. It's a playful, personal, and approachable meal where it genuinely feels like a private party. This isn't a stuffy atmosphere, it's meant to feel like a family gathering. I went for my first time on Wednesday and immediately booked another spot on Sunday. For the price, the food, and the service, I just can't recommend this place and these folks enough.

Such a peaceful and intimate experience Loved the variety of flavor in every dish, the chef and servers explained every dish to us and gave us ample time to enjoy everything, while being swift in clearing plates and refilling drinks Would recommend for an intimate date night during the week or a fun, upbeat experience fridays/Saturday's Won't post too many pics not to spoil the special nature of it
Be the first to ReplySome of the best omakase I've had in the city.
I love the way it's set up, there's one big U-shaped table and everyone starts eating at the same time. Super intimate experience, great for a date night!
Be the first to ReplyGreat spot for big group! Amazing food and service!
Great spot for big group! Amazing food and service! Definitely recommend this wonderful neighborhood gem!
Be the first to ReplySo let's start off with its service.
Louis and Isabelle were very friendly, warm, attentive, and kind, occasionally socializing with us diners and refilling our complimentary sake/water without being asked to. This shows how they want to provide us diners with the best and most comfortable dining experience possible. The head chefs were also very sweet and started our experience off drinking some sake with all of us, which I thought was fun and warm-hearted! Service is 5 stars without a doubt. Please keep in mind that they are still in the process of modifying their menu so you may or may not experience the same dishes that I am posting about. First - Oyster with ponzu, sesame oil and chives. 3/10Although the oyster was fresh, the sesame oil that accompanied it was so overpowering that it completely masked the ponzu, which made the overall oyster a lot less citrusy and more sesame oily. Second - Miso soup with leek, shiitake mushroom and shrimp. 4/10This unfortunately wasn't anything too special, was just miso soup with little bits (1-2 small piece) of shrimps. Third - King salmon with chili oil, chives, tobiko and fried onion. 8/10Aesthetically pleasing and delicious as well! The smoked component of the dish was unique and infused the king salmon perfectly. The fried onions were a delicious addition to the dish and complimented the soft king salmon deliciously! Fourth - Soft shelled crab with cauliflower purée and pickled cucumber. 9/10The soft shell crab was so delicious and paired greatly with the soft cauliflower purée, which was so smooth it tasted kind of like mashed potato haha. By far, the soft shelled crab is my favorite! Fifth - Fluke with ponzu I guess? 6/10You can definitely taste the ponzu and the fluke was fresh. It was tiny, however, and because of its small portion, I couldn't really make out its taste that well. Sixth - Bluefin tuna carpaccio with wasabi and yuzu. 8.5/10Very fresh bluefin tuna, which was fatty enough that it paired greatly with the yuzu sauce and wasabi! I liked this a lot, but I think they can enhance this dish even more by using a bit of soy sauce to bring out its umami! Seventh - Shima aji with preserved vegetable. 7/10Very meaty and fresh shima aji, where the preserved vegetable brings out its otherwise plain flavor. The sushi rice that accompanied it was delicious, perfectly balanced with its vinegar and sweetness!Eighth - Wild caught salmon. 6/10This was hard to grade because the freshness of it was impeccable, but there was either none or a very mild droplet of soy sauce brushed on. Hence there were nothing bringing out and enhancing the incredible freshness of the salmon. Hope they can either give a little bit more or provide the diners an opportunity to put their own. Ninth - Langoustine Shrimp with beurre blanc sauce. 10/10 It comes with a cream sauce (beurre blanc) that paired with it perfectly, which adds a non-Asian twist to the dish. Would totally order another one if possible, that's how good it was! Tenth - Madai fish from Shiba, Japan. 5/10Once again, they may have been a little light handed on the soy sauce. Fish was fresh as well, but the lack of soy sauce didn't bring out the fish's flavors. Easy fix! Eleventh - Baby Marilyn - chefs unique creation with scallop and chef's unique sauce that can only be found here. 10/10This was both a fun and delicious dish to eat, for the head chef came around torching our scallops one at a time until we hear a crackle, signaling the perfect timing to eat it! It was extremely delicious and the sauce tasted both like a creamy Mayo/butter infused fish roe. A definite must-keep so please don't take it out of your Omakase menu! Twelfth - O-Toro tuna with Santa Barbara uni. 10/10The name says it all, can't really go wrong with seared o-toro and uni! Maybe this is a me thing, but because I ate the whole thing in a bite, I could only taste the o-toro and not the uni; may taste better as two separate bites! Thirteenth - Sea eel from Japan. 5/10The sea eel was fresh but kind of too bland to my liking unfortunately; maybe a little sprinkle of sea salt may help bring out its natural flavors and freshness! (:Fourteenth and last - gooseberries infused with sake, mirin, and fresh cream! 10/10Very unique dessert and my first time trying gooseberries. The cream was so fresh that it really complimented the sake-infused gooseberries! You can't get this kind of dessert anywhere else, so I hope you can try it! Our overall experience was an interesting one and definitely an omakase experience that varied creatively than many others. There's some areas where they can improve upon, and some where they shined incredibly blindingly. There are some special dishes that you simply can't get anywhere else, and that's where they give you the best, delicious experience. I hope they will continue to grow and come up with new, unique, and memorable dishes!

...and are shocked by a very very upscale Japanese dining room. The food is fantastic and the experience is can't miss. I've had great Omakase around nyc and the world, and this one stands up. Try and go if you can find a reservation
