Great food and atmosphere, a little too tight at the bar
Great atmosphere-very much like similar places in Europe-very friendly and knowledgeable bartenders on food and drink. The Gambas al Ajillo (garlic shrimp) was the best I have had anywhere-get extra bread to soak up the sauce (the bread was also excellent). The Iberico pork flank steak was also stellar-same chef for both-a young kid-clearly a talent. Loved the burrata with citrus, radish and pepitas. The Bodegas Ugabe Rose I believe from the Basque region was superb-dry w a little fizz. Only complaint is that there should be one less seat at the bar-both of us were bumping elbows w our neighbors and had the feel of being in the center seat on a plane. Looked like the communal table or the seats at the bar near the window. Lives up to its reputation.

Be the first to ReplyTake me to Espana! Amazing Spanish tapas at this South End restaurant.
Take me back to Espana! Fantastic tapas and attentive waitstaff at this Spanish restaurant in the South End. The tomato pizza was good. The octopus, empanadas and potatoes were flavorful and very good. The beef sliders were very good! All tapas were cooked to perfection! The churros and chocolate sauce were excellent! The bird in/on the fire drink had a kick to it and was really good! We will return to this restaurant! Amazing food and atmosphere at this Spanish restaurant!

This was my fourth time and as in the past, everything was great. Service and atmosphere is always attentive and lively. Good always perfect. The paellas are fantastic. Go with friends/family and go hungry!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, noisy and lively
We made reservations and were seated shortly after arriving. The server was friendly and efficient. The food was very good and we tried variety of dishes. The restaurant is crowded and noisy which could be seen as fun and lively. In our case, it was a bit of a downside as it made it impossible to have a conversation with everyone at our table without shouting.
Be the first to ReplyI have lived and traveled in Spain for years, Toro would make the Spaniards PROUD!
Visiting Toro for a beloved nephew's birthday (his choice) has become a tradition and last week's visit did not disappoint. Starting with the table in the window, we were delighted to sip our rioja and nosh on some exquisite pinchos: marinated olives, Pan con tomate/boquerones, Atun Crudo, Pimientos ("de Padrรณn"), Asado de Hueso, plates of Jamon Iberico, and Chorizo... every dish more delightful than the last - and frankly, the roasted bone marrow and the raw tuna were the most memorable. We were served by the wonderful Luis who was just so engaging, and answered our every question happily, describing how dishes were prepared, what made them special, and even how the seafood changed on the menu based on the season. He was proud to tell us that the reason that the paellas took longer than people expected (the best part of the paella is the encrusted rice in the bottom of the pan, every Spaniard knows that) is that every paella must be prepared from scratch (not reheated like most restaurants do), and this means it takes time. We like to get there early right when they open at 5, and graze and delight in the time together ooh-ing and aah-ing and savoring each morsel. There are so many restaurants in Boston, it's hard to find true stand-outs, but for us, Toro es lo mejor!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food...Terrible Atmosphere
Apparently I am not alone in this opinion, but I will say this is possibly the loudest and most cacophonous restaurant I have ever been in. It has the audible and visual vibe of a dive bar only with a typically overpriced tapas menu. Both bartenders, for one example, were wearing random baseball caps turned backwards like it was the 1990s. Utterly ridiculous at these prices. My daughter and I literally had to yell at each other to be heard over the pounding music (really, it wasn't music because you could only hear the bass and drums). I have absolutely no idea what concept the restauranteurs are going for. And all that is a shame because the food is really good. That said, we only ordered two dishes and left early because the atmosphere was literally unbearable. If you're looking for a loud and obnoxious atmosphere in which to spend real money on a meal, then this is the place for you. And if that is what you're looking for, I can't imagine who you are. Honestly, a terrible experience.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful food and experience
Toro is a nice little restaurant that hits all the important things I look for; service, food, and atmosphere. The service was top notch, there was a crew of folks tending to the table throughout our meal; topping off the water, removing plates, taking away empty glasses, etc. The waiter was attentive and very timely with our food. We got the dates, fish croquettes, street corn, and a few other dishes. While it was pricey, the food was all excellent. The dates were my favorite! We sat in the patio, which was also nice. The music was of the top 40 mix...and wasn't bad.
Be the first to ReplyUtter Rubbish
In the running for worst Spanish Tapas anywhere anytime. Noting have lived over 1 year in Spain and very regular at Spanish & Talas places worldwide, this is rubbish. Never seen Gambas Al Ajilo without a garlic sauce, so we get a glorified prawn cocktail with garlic scent. How hard is to make Pan Con Tomate? Apparently, you can put too much salt on it. To be fair, the bone marrow was reasonable. Service was terrible, extremely rushed and trying to get you to finish and cycle tables. Would have to be on top 10 worst restaurants in last 10 years.
Be the first to ReplyA potentially great meal ruined by the music
Great food, cheeky prices ($18 for a sublime yellowfin tuna but $9 for 4 slices of cheese) and a welcoming atmosphere all promised a pricey but lovely evening. But it was completely ruined by a ridiculously, uncomfortably, pointless volume of pounding music that made it impossible to enjoy the meal. This was a small table, yet we were yelling to speak to the point of becoming hoarse. We could not hear the waiters and they could not hear us. We asked 4 times - waiters, hostesses, everyone - to please lower the volume and each time weโre told โyes it is loud and we will turn it downโ - and it never changed. By the time the main course came we were sitting silently as we were tired of screaming, and we asked for the bill, left quickly, and walked for a while enjoying the relative calm of South Boston streets.
Be the first to ReplyGreat choice and worth our walk!
Outstanding meal at Toros! The octopus was amazing. Excellent salt cod croquettes, shrimp, corn and churros for dinner. Really enjoyed the conversation and service with John as we were guests from at the bar. So wish this restaurant was 900 miles west so we could be regulars!
Be the first to ReplySpanish-inspired in the South End
Went here with friends on a Sunday evening and sat outside. The place does a bustling business! Cocktails were outstanding. The food is Spanish-inspired; there were tapas classics and some things like sliders that are definitely not Spanish! But, a good place to go with a group; everyone can find something to like and it's fun to share. In terms of other tapas I've experienced, I found the food average. By no means bad, but nothing that floored me with its flavor, originality, etc. For the price point, I was slightly underwhelmed. Service was a mixed bag. It was very attentive at the evening's start; as the restaurant for busy, it tapered off and some details were missed. Everyone was polite and working hard, though. I would certainly return but wouldn't rush to go here versus trying out other spots when again in Boston.
Be the first to ReplyAlways Fantastic
I canโt say enough about this place. Fourth time eating here. The paellas are amazing. So many dishes to choose. Donโt miss the anchovies! I am not a date lover but the ones here are great. I could go on and on. Indulge yourself!
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelmed, good food, expensive
Perhaps cause of the reviews I've read or a comment from a friend my expectations for Spanish tapas were high, I love tapas and I would say even if they were good, they were not great or exceptional for the price you pay. Maybe it was a bad day or something as per the other reviews and compared to other Spanish restaurants in the city. Ambience was good and service was OK. I might have to give it a second chance in the months or years to come.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic
I had to wait an hour in the rain for a table (couldn't wait at the bar due to Covid protocol) and it was worth it. I had an eggplant relish with bread, patatas bravas, and grilled corn. Doesn't sound like much but they were all great. Also a glass of Tempranillo to drink. And for dessert, churros with chocolate sauce, the best churros I ever had. Service was great.
Be the first to ReplyExpensive but good
This restaurant is in a great neighbourhood and we enjoyed our walk there almost as much as the restaurant. Restaurant is busy with a good vibe. As others have mentioned it is expensive for what you get but food is delicious and we especially enjoyed the lamb ribs and corn. They also have about 6% worth of COVID surcharges. Make sure you book as they are a small restaurant and get busy. Worth trying but not sure we would go a second time.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing!
Amazing evening. The quality of the food, various flavors and varied menu items were fantastic. If we could give 6 stars we would. The staff couldn't do enough for us. They explained the options, considered what we liked/didn't like and made excellent recommendations. We will be back!
