Torikyu Honolulu Reviews from The Last Year

This yakitori place is a hole in the wall with limited parking but you can park in pucks alley for a charge. For us we found parking right in the front. The smell of the grill is heavenly and it isn't Smokey at all. We started with a pitcher of beer and placed our order on the list. Highly recommend the beef tongue, enoki skewer, chicken and onion, fried musubi and agedashi tofu. The option of the salt and teriyaki depends on your taste buds. I liked the salt but my other friends liked the teriyaki. In the end I think we ordered like 25-30 sticks for 4 people and another pitcher of beer. When I come back home I always go there.

This is our favorite restaurant! We love eating the shabu shabu salad, chicken yakitori sticks, chicken karaage, crispy chicken skin, extra crispy fries, shoyu yaki onigiri, and their ono chicken ramen. The food really taste like authentic Japanese cuisine. So delicious! The staff, Yuki, Emi, Ora, and Setsuko are all so very nice. They really take care of their customers! Parking can sometimes be difficult, but the food is worth it!
I tried this spot because it was one of the few yakitori
I tried this spot because it was one of the few yakitori places open late, and I was interested in their menu's variety, including the Musubi Yakitori. Unfortunately, I don't recommend ordering it--it's just not worth the price. To be transparent, I have dietary restrictions, so I only tried their chicken options, not the pork or beef options. Sadly, the chicken offerings were underwhelming. I've had much better yakitori elsewhere in the area, so if you have similar dietary limitations, this might not be the best place to visit. What I did was asked the kitchen for Yuzu on the side, this helped me get through my meal - but BE WARNED... they DO CHARGE for extra sauces on the side. However, my party really enjoyed the beef tongue, so if you're into that, it might be worth a shot! One of the strangest parts of my visit was when the server informed us that the kitchen was closing an hour before the actual closing time. We had just arrived and have been waiting for our first round to come out. We thought we had plenty of time, so this caught us off guard.

The flavor at this yakitori joint has plummeted since they swapped out the chef. Now, the only time to truly enjoy their skewers is on weekends when the original maestro, who actually knows his way around a grill, is in charge. It's quite the fall from grace for a spot that used to be a daily fixture in my culinary routine.

This place is literally a hidden gem! It's located in a tiny little back location with very little space for parking. Besides limited space, the food and service were great. Good for eating and drinking.
We ordered a mix of skewers, appetizers and musubis.
Everything was delicious! My favorites were the beef tongue, bacon with enoki skewer and agedashi tofu. I also got the peach soda shochu and it was soo good, it went perfectly with the food! Could barely taste the alcohol though haha. I was worried that the food wouldn't fill us up since they're all skewers and small plates but it was more than enough! Love how they offer a variety of items so there's something for everyone! The restaurant is small yet cozy and service was good. They always checked up on us. Just a heads up that parking is hard since they only have a few stalls up front. There's more parking in the corner of Puck's Alley but you have to pay.
a great yakitori restaurant.
the food is fresh and flavorful. the service is kind and prompt. the place is popular and gets busy. it has an energetic atmosphere. there also offer to sit at the counter which is pretty cool. i highly recommend this place, you will not be disappointed
Really good food and place to eat.
Service is excellent. Ambiance has nice atmosphere.
When I'm missing Japan, I come to torikyu, where they have
When I'm missing Japan, I come to torikyu, where they have some of the best yakitori on island. Ordering is super easy - just write your order on the list of food and hand it to the waiter! You can choose between salt or teriyaki flavored for most of the yakitori. I highly recommend the chicken thighs with green onions and the skin. So sad they were out of the cartilage on the day I went but they do have it on the menu. Other than the yakitori, they also serve many side dishes, with the fried squid and yaki musubi (miso flavored) being my absolute favorites! Sitting at the counter is a must if you're going as a small party, so you can watch them grill up the yakitori right in front of you! The restaurant is on the smaller side but and they do get busy, so I highly suggest calling in for a reservation.
Used to be a devoted Yakitori Gald fan.
But I think I'm gonna start coming here more often. Service is quick, skewers are thick and have more meat than other yakitori places. Place is clean and there's no smoke from the grill filling the space. Lots of variety on the menu. Solid
