Two stars because the food is good however the chicken breast was super dry. I don't appreciate places who have workers/servers that are stuck up and don't have best service just because the food is decent. It's like they think they can get away with a superior attitude. Unless you're kissing their butts and trying to gain respect through buying them drinks, don't expect good service. Being a Japanese restaurant you would think they would take pride in BOTH FOOD AND SERVICE. When the older guy was running it everything was much better back in the day. There is a better chicken yakitori place in Gardena.

Torigoya is legit! We waited almost 45 minutes when there there only 3 parties ahead of us and once we finally got in, it was worth the wait. If you get the chance, sit on the counter. We were able to see all the action, sounds and smells that lends to their authenticity. We walked in and it brought me back to the last time we visited Japan. The restaurant was surrounded in wood. It looks like something you would find in a smaller city, like Fukuaoka. Don't be shocked by the prices as everyone's prices are going up. But you have to look at the intrinsic value of the whole experience. We ordered a lot of different items from the menu and not one disappointed. Although you may shake your head at two pieces of grilled eggplant for almost $4, I hope you didn't just order that. Their karaage is probably one of the best I've had in a long time. The chicken was marinated perfectly and the coating was lite and crunchy. They ran out of chicken skin skewers so we opted for the chicken skin appetizer with vinegar and it took us by surprise. The raw, white onions under the chicken did not have a strong flavor that overpowered the chicken. One by one the chef brought over the skewers and each of them had their own distinct flavor and texture. Chicken hearts, thighs, wings, meatballs...they were all delicious. If you are planning to bring a group, I would recommend reservations as it is small and the style of service and cooking isn't a quick dining experience. So take your time, soak it up because this is as close to eating in Japan as you can get. Cleanliness 9/10 Bathrooms 8/10 Ambiance 10/10 Service 10/10 Food 10/10 Value 9/10 Will I Return? Yes!

Enjoy every part of the chicken. It's a fantastic, unhurried experience. Supplement with a chicken rice bowl and a side of soup. Don't forget to order the quail egg skewers. Pay for the sauces (mustard and pepper) too.

Delicious Yakitori spot! The skewers are cooked to perfection--I recommend the soft thigh & special heart! The chicken nan ban is also a must try. The house made Tartar sauce pairs very well with the fried chicken. The oyako bowl is also very flavorful & just completes the meal. I highly recommend making a reservation for they do get busy, especially on the weekend!
Be the first to ReplyThe yakitori was amazing.
Definitely get the neck, meatball, and thighs. The rice bowl was also very good and flavorful. Service was a bit slow but they are grilling everything to order. Make sure you have a reservation.
Be the first to Reply100 ways to serve chicken but it's still chicken.
To be fair the items have authentic Japanese flavors. As you step into this unassuming gem, you'll find yourself transported to the bustling streets of Tokyo. Get the chicken meatballs, soft chicken thighs skip the chicken breast kinda bland. Yakitori everything: Torigoya lives up to its reputation as a premier yakitori (grilled chicken skewer) spot. The aroma of charcoal-grilled chicken fills the air, promising a delicious dinner. Service was ok hence the 3 stars.
Be the first to ReplyI love it here.
Definitely a go to. It's quiet enough to have conversation but also lively. The closest to feeling like you're IN Japan. Food is always on point - delicious, yet simple. I always get the agedashi tofu (so good here!), yakitori (chicken thigh w/ sauce + tomato), and their chicken bowl. It's the perfect place to grab some drinks and catchup with friends. The service is friendly and ambience is cozy. The only thing I'd recommend is for them to work on their reservation process because online doesn't work and calling is always hard to get an answer esp since they're only open for very specific hours. It's hard to request for reservations.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is so good.
I would highly recommend this place as it's so authentic and the food is so savory and grilled perfectly. Only downside I would say is it's pretty pricey and you need to be extra for some of its sauces. Great service all around with some really friendly people. I would say you could come with any group of people except spots are limited (would recommend 4 max)
Be the first to ReplyFood is sooo yummm! Love the ambiance.
Service is OK too. This last time we were given the wrong order - although they told us to keep it (but we don't eat gizzards, eewwwww) but overall great place. Definitely will be back.

A group of us came here for a celebratory dinner on a Saturday night at 6pm. The restaurant only opens for 4 hours a day, so making reservations is a must. We all ordered the 10 Skewers Course ($34) and added the Heart ($2.99) and Special Heart ($4.20) from a la carte. We also got the fresh wasabi ($3.50) and house made ginger sauce ($2.80) that my friend recommended. The ginger sauce reminded me of the Hainan chicken sauce basically. The chicken soup and salad that was included in the course was heartwarming and refreshing --both really great starters. Most of the skewers were tender and flavorful, except the breast. Favorites were definitely the thigh and skin. I also didn't care too much for the tomato, so I do wish they offered a different vegetable. The skewers were good, but there were some long wait times between the courses, which easily makes this a 2 hour dinner. Towards the end, they had to ask if they forgot any skewers, which we had to remind them of 3 more. Good thing I took photos, but it's a bit of a mess that no one is keeping track of the orders. To accompany our food, we also shared a bottle of Jyumai Daikinjyou ($65 for 720ML). This was nice and we had multiple rounds between the four of us. Overall, solid spot for yakitori. If you come as a pair, I'd recommend getting a bar seat so you can watch them grill the skewers.

This restaurant has the oddest seating policy I have ever experienced. We arrived before they opened and when the server came to the door at 6 he announced that they take reservations first (not surprising) but then he just ignored folks who did not have reservations. Finally, he allowed one couple to go in w/o a reservation but left 2 parties waiting outside. The restaurant was 1/3 full at this point but these two parties could not go in. The odd thing -- the 2 parties not allowed in were of other races than everyone allowed in. WTF??? They think people don't notice this? NEVER coming back.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was great! I visited weekday evening around 7:30PM.
If you are hungry, go get there early as possible. I recommed fried tofu and other yakitori small bites of meat. I hope to come back next weekweekend! I'm looking forward to trying others once I'm back because they were so good. I liked the highball as well.
Be the first to ReplyAn amazing yakitori place in Little Tokyo.
It is a relatively small shop but really gives you the yakitori vibe, especially if you sit at the bar. The employees are super friendly and will explain the menu for you. The chicken nanban is a MUST-get as it is the perfect balance of crunchy, crispy, and flavor. The dons are also great if you want to fill up a little more, but the main stars are the yakitori. You can't really go wrong with what you get so just choose your favorite chicken parts. If you are new to yakitori, you can start with the chicken meatballs and chicken thighs. Then if you are feeling adventurous, try the gizzard and special hearts. The special special hearts are really rich and delicate, so proceed with caution. We love to take friends here and eat as a group, but try to call in for reservations if you have a party bigger than 2.
Be the first to ReplyYakitori in Little Tokyo on the second floor is named
Yakitori in Little Tokyo on the second floor is named Torigoya and is one of the tastiest I have had in a long time. Yakitori is pretty much a Japanese store that serves skewered meat on little bamboo sticks. Came here on a Friday night and had reservations so when we got here the table was already set for us. We for a paper menu where you tick off the items that you would want to have and enjoy. They do serve sake and beer here if you would like to drink but we just got hot green tea which kept us nice and toasty. Chicken soup is tasty and you should order one. There is a chicken rice bowl and well that can be shared between us which is also pretty nice. They have a variety of vegetables on skewers like eggplant, mushroom, and tomato. Plenty of variety for the yakitori on meat such as chicken, beef, hearts, and skin. All this is cooked by one man flipping and taking a lot of care on your food order. I think my favorite and must-order would be chicken skin, soup, and shishito peppers! Those were pretty delicious.
Be the first to ReplyAwful service! Waiting for an hour and no one was let in.
They offer no tables for walk-ins. And all reservations were booked several days ahead.

If you're looking for some delicious yakitori, look no further than Torigoya in Little Tokyo. This cozy restaurant has a fantastic selection of grilled skewers, and everything we tried was simply delicious. The standout for me was the chicken thigh with green onion, which was perfectly cooked with a crispy char on the outside and tender, juicy meat on the inside. The chicken meatball and pork belly skewers were also fantastic, with just the right amount of seasoning and flavor.Aside from the yakitori, we also tried the fried chicken wings, which were crispy and addictive, and the homemade tofu, which was silky and creamy. The atmosphere at Torigoya is cozy and welcoming, with friendly and attentive service. The prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food.Overall, if you're a fan of yakitori or just looking for a delicious and satisfying meal in Little Tokyo, Torigoya is definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended!
Be the first to ReplyThe food is amazing and off the charts.
I've never been so satisfied with multiple ways of using chicken and how every part is used and implemented im each skewer and dish.

Was in the area and randomly decided to eat here bc we saw how packed it was inside. It was kind of rough getting a seat but the food was really good! It's cute inside and the food surprised me as I had never had this type of Japanese food. I'd highly recommend the chicken thigh skewers and the mushrooms as those were my favorite of the night. Honestly skip on the "special chicken soup" but next time I will try the chicken ramen!

Awesome place at Little Tokyo!! We waited 15-20 mins to get seated for 4 people, which isn't too bad. I highly recommend the thigh skewers -- they were my favorite. I also recommend the chicken nappan with the tartar sauce on top. Overall great place to try for an authentic Japanese experience!

Extremely poor management model! I will never come back to this restaurant. I called at 6pm to make a reservation and they told me I needed to be in the store to join the Wait List. when I arrived at 6:10 I found a lot of empty tables, but these reservations didn't arrive until 7:00. I couldn't understand why we waited for almost an hour without a free table being arranged. Even though the guests' reservation was at 8:00, the guest who arrived at 6:00 still had to wait for a tableBad food , and awful service !!! Never come here again Worst restaurant in little Tokyo !!!!

Be the first to ReplyHands down, the only yakitori you will ever need to try in
Hands down, the only yakitori you will ever need to try in L.A.. From the dรฉcor to the low key jazz playing over the stereo you will find a great time at this place. Their skewers are cooking over charcoal made from old wood brought from Japan. There are also plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. Don't miss out of the cucumber or shishito pepper appetizers. A definite vibe.

Hard to get seating, but the food is always so goooood I love the ginger sauce you can order on the side. Come early or they run out of items. They don't validate, but the market nearby does (w $20 purchase!).

This has to be one of the best Yakitori restaurants that I have been to, if not in Los Angeles.I went out to dinner with the boys, and had a great time. We had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated on a Wednesday evening, so be prepared for a wait. I highly recommend arriving earlier since most of their popular items get sold out. Once seated, we ordered a variety of different food options, but my favorites were the chicken breast, chicken thigh, the meatball and the soboro bowl. The chicken breast was very tender and was grilled to perfection. The seasoning was quite nice and really enhanced the dish. I can say the same exact thing for all of the other skewers that we ordered. I recommend pairing the skewers with the sauce pairings. Excellent quality and ambiance across the board. I felt like I was warped in Japan for a brief moment in time. I would absolutely be back when I am in Little Tokyo and am craving some old fashioned Japanese BBQ!
