Thirteen by James Harden Houston Reviews
This is a great date night or night out with the girls.
We sat on lounge side. There was a dj. Good music just loud. Food was good. Especially wings, chicken skewers and Brussel sprouts. On the pricery side. Smaller portions. Service was okay.
This restaurant is definitely having an identity crisis.
I had previously been to 13 before the remodel and the change of the menu for happy hour. The food was more of a variety of things and I remember some of the things I had such as chicken wings, the buffalo cauliflower, for example, were very good. This new Asian inspired tasting menu just does not make sense to me. It does not go with overall vibe of the restaurant either. You're paying 100 to 150% more on food cost for tiny plates, which is absolutely ridiculous. What would have worked is to make this more of a tapas restaurant where you can order a variety of small plates at more affordable prices so that a person would be encouraged to want to order more bites for the table. Spending $50 on a tiny plate of food to still be hungry afterwards is insane. Also, the music in the main dining room was way too loud could not even enjoy a conversation with friends due to how loud the music was. And then again you have the hookah lounge where they play hip-hop music but again the food and the vibe and the energy just does not match the concept. Went to the lounge afterwards and spent $76 on three drinks which is very insane. I can go to a steakhouse and pay less for the drinks than what 13 charges $30 for an espresso martini is outrageous. Also, I don't like how they try to be sneaky about the tip. FYI, the 20% gratuity is already built in so when they take you to the page to sign unless you're feeling generous, no need to add an additional tip. I will say the waitress we had was very good and very knowledgeable about the menu. One of the drinks I ordered. I did send back to the bar because it tasted like pure juice which would be the lychee drink as pretty as it was I'm not paying for juice. honestly, the restaurant should've stayed the way it was in my opinion no need for me to return back for anything. Too many other places in Houston to go to where I may pay a premium for the food, but I'm actually going to leave full and happy.
The rebranding of this restaurant is horrible.
I came here for my birthday and was exited to have the same experience I did before the revamp but was the COMPLETE OPPOSITE. The food was super salty. And the there are like 5 options to choose from . Over priced and not a good selection to choose from. The drink menu is bigger than the food menu. The vibe is cool but if you're going for a good meal go somewhere else. My entire group went to McDonald's after because nothing was even worth spending anything on.
Idks something is wrong with their liquor.
Everytime I leave here i get sleepy... feeling like I've been drugged after drinking at the bar. Something ain't right with their drinks.

Was totally unaware of the rebranding (now Asian inspired, more specifically, Japanese ) and was a bit disappointed when the menu items did not align with Google. My fault for not going directly to the website, I did discuss my disappointment with manager Shawn (Sean-sorry if I have misspelled) and he seemed as if he wanted to debate me instead of understanding my frustration. Anyway, it is what is it. The vibe is cozy and chic. Thankfully when we arrived it was not crowded which made it great for a chill, relaxing time, and conversation. We came for a birthday celebration and our server was Amina (sorry if I have misspelled your name). Amina is cute as a button and has the personality to match. Our disappointment in the menu selection was voiced, Amina apologized, stated she understood, and helped us navigate the menu (take note Mr. Shawn (Sean)...smh). I chose the Dandan Noodles Ramen Noodles, Chili Sauce, Aged White Cheddar, Sesame Oil, Garlic, Onsen Egg and Lobster and Shrimp Dumplings Lobster Tail, Shrimp, Yuzu Aioli, Soy Vinegar, Pea Shoots. Both were amazing! The ramen had just enough heat and I was actually able to indulge with my chopsticks in a dignified manner (iykyk...lol) The dumplings were perfection (chef's kiss). The Birthday Girl who is a VERY picky eater got the salmon bowl and a lemon drop martini which she enjoyed immensely. The other guest had the lamb chops which were to her satisfaction as well. Even though experience was dampened by the rebranding, Amina turned things around--much appreciation to her! Thirteen is a solid 3, Amina and the food made it a 4.

I recently traveled to the Houston for the first time it was an amazing trip. my best friend and I were looking for a good restaurant to eat at! we heard about Thirteen and i recommend when you're in Downtown Houston go check it out. their food is good the place in very nice inside I was served by Rachel she was very nice and made us feel right at home and makes good drinks it was a vibe!
The food is really really good.
Love the music. The drinks are only a bit higher than other similar spots. I enjoy the lounge area. The waitresses are very nice and very professional. However, if you decide to order hookah, you should most definitely pay in cash. I was overcharged for a hookah, I confronted the hookah manager and was told to expect a refund... It's been over two weeks and I have not received a refund. I do NOT enjoy being lied to or defrauded out of my money. With that being said, patron the business and not the hookah team partnered with 13 unless you have CASH.

Came here for an anniversary dinner and it was everything I could imagine. The new rebrand definitely is something innovative and exciting to see especially Black owned. We started with drinks, and quickly into appetizers. We decided to try the crab dumplings and they were fantastic! Definitely recommend on your next visit. For entree, we decided to have the teriyaki salmon bowl and it was truly one of a kind. The flavors and blend of asian cuisine was truly exquisite. Lastly for dessert, had the banana pudding it was spot on! The ice cream, cinnamon notes, the flavor was a great mix and truly going back for more. The service and ambiance was great, and our waiter truly seemed passionate on making sure our experience was well. Will be coming back soon!
Amina was awesome, highly recommend .
She recommended items to try as it was our first time visiting and ensured we had an amazing experience from beginning to end. We can't wait to come back and experience such amazing service again.

Food is amazing, drinks are amazing, hookah lounge is a must! Definitely a good time, every time. The new menu will take your taste buds around the world and back! The seafood is so fresh and amazing!
Amazing service, amazing staff, amazing food.
Absolutely outstanding place to visit if you are in Houston. I will say it's expensive although the food is worth it! Also the drink cups were small for $6 you get free refills but the waiter or waitress has to refill it so often and your stuck with an empty cup when the food comes. Other than my small inconvenience it was very very nice!

Im tired of houston restaurants creating menus inspired by a cultures and not having any real connection. We are at 13 soft relaunch and although the venue is remodeled the service is still slow, parking is still high and the food is now under seasoned. Ambiance Is nice that is where all the relaunch efforts went. They moved the bar to middle of the restaurant & added a DJ booth. Alot more seating. Also ladies the floor is walkable!! No more sliding. Upon entry the hostess are sweet & alert greeting you upon entry. Great location for a photo op. Also there is a photographer taking professional photos. The a/c works so please bring a light jacket or sweater. Food & Drinks Sigh...i want better for them i promise. But no one tasted this menu! No one made actual real reccommendation or they were not followed. I ordered main entree of the chicken skewers and the seafood fried rice. My table consisted of the lobster dumplings, scallops & ramen. The fried rice cannot be made spicy due to them not having chilli oil. Wait disclaimer this is japanese inspired restaurant with no japanese influence not even sushi. Look add hot chilli oil (or bring your own) to menu and the price point is crazy for the small portions. The chicken skewers were $22 for 2 logs of chicken that seemed steamed. The food took 40+ minutes to come out & the drinks came out aftet the food. The bartenders were more focused on the customers at the bar then in the restaurant. The drinks are watered down with like 2 cups of crushed ice. They say they have an open bar and can order what ever you want the bartender can make but they didnt know how to make a porn star martini smh. The lemon drop isnt even filled to the top. The manager came to our table to ask our thoughts on the menu when we told him that the rice should have a spice option he told us there was ginger like come on guy. They still have wings and lamb chops if you like. Service The waiters are nice no bad attitude just long wait times we had to ask for our food. 15%Gratuity automatically added to every check sighhhh free black owned restaurants from automatic gratuity. Would i reccommend... naw point of correction there is sushi on the cold app portion of the menu

Went here for my birthday and food was great! The drink was too strong, I'm not a drinker. Bartender was good, the place is beautiful. I love that they have a photographer that takes your pictures $40 with the frame.

Came here for my birthday celebration and it was definitely a vibe! This is James Harden restaurant and it's Very nice with luxury decor with opulence! The main dining area was closed due to renovations but we had the pleasure to sit in the patio bar area. It was very nice and intimate with the Dj who was playing all the hits! I couldn't stop singing and dancing. Our server was nice and very attentive! He recommended the top picks and the food was awesome OMG so flavorful! I ordered the salmon with crab fried rice I'm happy it was on point!!! No complaints whatsoever! My Hennessy sidecars was so delicious and not too sweet! Overall, I do recommend this place for girls night out or celebrations. They have hookah if you want with various flavors. Sidenote: They charge for parking $20.00 for self parking.
How I have waited this long to review this establishment is
How I have waited this long to review this establishment is beyond me, but better late than never. Food: I would fight my own mother to learn the secret to their impeccable lamb chops. They are seasoned perfectly, tender, and covered with a delicious chimichurri sauce Additionally, the cilantro lime rice is flavorful. It may have been undercooked though, but I didn't taste it at the restaurant so I didn't realize it until the next day. My dinner partner ordered the Mac and cheese egg rolls, which I tasted, but wasn't a fan of. There wasn't much of the seafood described in the description. Another dish that suffered the 'to be desired' fate were the crab fries. I had flashbacks of the old Wendy's commercial...where's the beef!! Service: Service was ok. We dined when they first opened and items still took a bit of time to arrive, including our cocktails. Ambiance: The establishment is sexy. I didn't get a chance to visit the other side, but it appeared to be lively. The, what I assume to be the main dining area, was quaint in size but lavish in decor. Definitely a date night spot. I will be returning because like I said initially...lamb chops!
High-end exterior, same ol' hookah lounge interior.
It's unimaginable this place is owned(?) by James Harden,a professional NBA player, yet has the same atmosphere and dining selections as a hole-in-the-wall. I came out to celebrate a friend's birthday looking forward to a upscale culinary experience only to be limited to wings, mac&cheese, loaded fries and "cajun" pasta. The lounge was one big hookah cloud, couldn't go upstairs bc "renovations," and it's the same loud trap music and 90s R&B. All of which I could've gotten for much cheaper at an establishment in Third Ward or Alief. To whoever decided to severely reduce menu options to get a larger crowd, that wasn't the smartest business move.
I would recommend the pepperoni pizza Waitress service -
I would recommend the pepperoni pizza Waitress service - good Wait time - made reservations Food - wings & macaroni cheese.. menu not for me Ambiance- cool dinner spot nothing special Overall I wouldn't go back the hype wasn't worth me coming back
Been on my list of places to try in Houston.
Came here during the week for a a few drinks to celebrate a friends birthday. We sat in the bar / lounge area. The other side was closed for a private party. Since it was the weekend it wasn't very crowded so we sat at the bar. Drinks and service were great. Hookah was served promptly. The only surprise was a cosmo is like $24 there lol. Id like to see this place during the weekend, I'll definitely be back.
The scampi pasta was unreal.
The flavor was so good. The shrimp was so tasty. The rest of my friends also said the pasta was really good. You have to try it! They had good music. The view on the patio shows a nice skyline. Every time I'll visit Houston I'm coming back here.
My recent visit to Thirteen by James Harden was quite
My recent visit to Thirteen by James Harden was quite disappointing. Despite receiving multiple reminder emails about our reservation, we were shocked to arrive and find out that the dining room was closed for renovation. The only available seating was in the hookah section, which not only smelled disgusting but was also extremely loud. It's truly disheartening when a restaurant fails to deliver on its promises. Renovations can be unavoidable, but it would have been appreciated if the staff had informed us in advance or provided alternative solutions. I hope the management of Thirteen by James Harden takes this feedback constructively and works towards providing better communication and customer service in the future. I definitely don't recommend.
Overrated, Overpriced & totally not worth the visit!
As we walked into Thirteen we were greeted by the hostesses, who were very pleasant. Once seated, we realised that there was no music playing. Apparently the music system was faulty! After about 10 minutes our server greeted us & started to take our orders. He realised that we hadn’t been given a Cocktail/ Drinks Menu so he proceeded to get one! The Drinks Menu was poorly presented, I could barely read it. Then I looked around at the decor & all the floral arrangements are dying, it just looked a mess. Our Appetisers & mains were served within minutes of each other but it didn’t have much of an impact because we ended up having to send our appetiser back as it had minimal seafood inside it! The Teriyaki Salmon was 2/10 very dry & barely any flavours at all. So dissatisfied! There were no dessert suggestions at all & the check was handed to us. We felt rushed & the whole evening was extremely unpleasant.
First time visit, Perfectly seasoned entrees and great cocktails !
The food makes up for the confusion with reservations, no one seemed to know what was going on. Loud club, cigar lounge and hookah bar all within the restaurant. Music banging from club, made it a bit much for friends to converse. Food was good no extra seasoning needed and that’s a huge plus for me. Mac n cheese Eggrolls were so good, Mac n cheese lobster Mac was a perfectly seasoned fried lobster tail atop a crawfish Mac n cheese. The blue drink was good ! It was our first time and we liked that our server was well knowledgeable of the menu as well as offered suggestions!
Told us we need to move after 2 3 hours Wow Wow!
They told us we had to move because someone else wants our table to purchase. Seriously. I guess we didn't buy bottles we don't matter.
Horrible Service and Customer Service
The only thing worth going to this restaurant for is there seafood eggrolls and that is not enough for me to go all the wa over there. The service and the food was horrible and when I wrote to the company about it, I never heard anything bck from them. THis was my husbnd and I first time and last. Bad enough you have to pay to park (on the street) but then you spend an exorbant amount of money for less than burger king service. (Which is way better) It is sad that everytime I tell people that our service at This restaurant was bad, they tell me that they knew the food was bad. Wish I would gave told people I was going there.
Food ok, service not great.
Never saw waiter after our food was delivered. Had to ask for water. Lounge during happy hour is the best thing going. Would probably not return.
We celebrated my birthday and the customer service from the
We celebrated my birthday and the customer service from the host to the server was phenomenal. The atmosphere was a vibe. Lauren our waitress was attentive, helpful and very professional. Our food was excellent. The entrees were delicious. I took away a star because of the cilantro rice it was not cooked all the way. The wings (not the Thai) was very plain it needed the sauce. The mashed potatoes were cold. The steak, lamb chops and egg rolls will have you circling back the next day. mmm good. Thanks for a fabulous birthday experience.
Amazing service.
Amazing ambiance. STELLAR STELLAR food. No words can do this place justice. We tried almost everything on the Saturday brunch menu and...I am still dreaming of it all. The grits are heavenly (and if you've read any of my other reviews you know I'm a sucker for amazing grits.) SO MUXH FLAVOR in everything. Churro chicken and waffles. Stuffed French toast. Catfish and grits with crawfish sauce. Curry home fries. Center cut bacon = perfect fat-to-meat ratio. Was hoping to meet Chef Tobias but understandably he wasn't there...An all around amazing experience and can't wait to go for dinner. Or a lit ass Houston Sunday brunch party, because I've heard it's usually a great time! The restaurant also has a hookah bar and lounge attached (downstairs and offset from the dining room), but by the time I realized that upon leaving I was stuffed full and only had enough energy left to make it to the car :)Oh and did I mention this place is James Harden's concept? That makes it even cooler - star factor, ya know!
Came here for brunch randomly, everything was delicious I
Came here for brunch randomly, everything was delicious I have no complaints on the food. We ordered fish and grits, cheesecake French toast, curry potato hash and fried chicken. The chicken was the best, tasted like Big Mama made it! The service was great, we had a good waiter. And the vibe was pretty cool, it was nice and sort of upscale but not uncomfortably upscale. There is a hookah lounge next to the restaurant inside, I like that it was separate from dining because of the smoke, etc. we popped in but didn't have time to try the hookah.
I've seen lots of TikTok's and comments about Thirteen so I
I've seen lots of TikTok's and comments about Thirteen so I was super excited to try it to celebrate my friend's birthday at this restaurant. Unfortunately, our experience fell a little flat with some of the food that we tried. The Sun Devil oysters were absolutely delicious! We could've eaten 20 more. My friend and I both got the Teriyaki Salmon and crab rice; the salmon was okay but not extraordinary and the crab rice was quite bland. The Lobster Mac and Cheese was bland as well. Overall, the waiter and hostess were very professional and polite and the vibe is grown and sexy, but the mediocre food and large price tag made my experience fall flat.

This is definitely a hangout spot! They are mostly playing hip hop and r&b. The decor is really nice and connected is a hookah lounge. I ate at the bar, had a drink and passed by the hookah lounge. It is very clean in there and the waitress Christina is a doll!
Fun and lots good vibes.
Great atmosphere for brunch, good drinks and food. AK was our server and she was amazing. I will definitely be back!
This is the best chicken and waffles I had in my life.
The first bite of the chicken was like a deep dive into a waterfall while the sun is setting in the background. The waffle was so flavorful with its sugary sweetness. The customer service was amazing I love it here and I know you will too.
We dropped in this upscale restaurant, cocktail & hookah
We dropped in this upscale restaurant, cocktail & hookah lounge owned by NBA player James Harden . From the moment I stepped inside, I was impressed by the decor and simply casual but sleek ambiance. The lighting was perfect, the music was great, and the overall vibe was lively and upbeat. The menu was curated with care, offering a range of delicious dishes with bold flavors The cocktail menu featured a variety of unique drinks. But what really set this restaurant apart was the fact that their are additional additions to this restaurant , attached is a hookah lounge, and the basement which is pretty much the club /party addition to this restaurant . The hookah lounge and party/club is not for me ! I would simply come back for dining only ! In addition to the great food and hookah, the service was exceptional. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, and they made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived until we left.Overall, I highly recommend this black-owned upscale restaurant, cocktail & hookah lounge .
Ambiance was amazing ! Broccolini, seafood rice and more
Ambiance was amazing ! Broccolini, seafood rice and more Great food & wonderful customer service. Our server Reynaldo was amazing and made our night the best ! Thanks
Update: now they are charging $20 for self parking on top
Update: now they are charging $20 for self parking on top of automatic 18% gratuity. The first time we went there was no fee for parking. The food was good but there was a terrible odor in the dining area. There is no need for reservations for brunch but the website prompts you to make one anyway. I don't see this restaurant lasting very long.
I went to thirteen for my friends birthday & Reynaldo's
I went to thirteen for my friends birthday & Reynaldo's service was exceptional ! Great hospitality & very patient with our big party. The staff in general was amazing, definitely visit here !!
Came on a Friday night to check out the bar area.
There was no line so security let us right in. The restaurant is split in two, separated by glass doors, with the bar on the left and restaurant on the right side. The bar was packed and the space was so tight because the chairs and tables are way too close to the bar, which is in the middle. Thus, doesn't leave much room for those standing at the bar and for the wait staff to get by. The DJ was decent but the crowd wasn't what I pictured. It was a bit too much for me so we ended up leaving about 20 minutes after we got there.
I made reservations here for my birthday dinner and they
I made reservations here for my birthday dinner and they did not disappoint, the atmosphere is so cool, food was amazing! Took a few min for them to seat us but overall I would definitely come back!!! Cajun Pasta, Chicken Wings, Jerk Pineapple Wings, Pineapple Thai Wings, I also had some fries that were amazing!!! Try this spot, you won't be disappointed! Make reservations early!!!!
Good eats
First things first, the ambiance of the restaurant is sexy. I can see this being a good place for date night. We went here for brunch on a Sat. Lauren our server was very prompt and helpful with menu suggestions. I don't mind my mimosas in a plastic carafe. Not sure why this was thing in the comments. The menu is limited which I like because that means the food is going to be good. Rather than having a menu like cheesecake factory and none of the food is good. Food came out quickly. I ordered the churro chicken and waffle. Probably some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. Waffle was good too. Had a passion fruit mimosa. Food, service, and ambiance 20/10. They even have a hookah lounge next door. We didn't go because it was crowded. The only thing I didn't like was paying 20 dollars for self parking. That was annoying.
Not what I had anticipated
The food was delicious! Went for brunch so choices were limited but we were all happy with our food! Service was bad. Our food came before we had utensils or the drinks that we had ordered 😢 I ordered a mimosa and was brought a plastic carafe? I had ordered for one. The music was great but acoustics are such that it was hard to hear conversations. I’m glad to have gone- would absolutely never go again.
