Really a very nice high end place
Beautiful place, with wonderful gardens and older buildings to walk around. Had a lunch in the outdoor area of stone house.
Be the first to ReplyConsistently a great experience to dine here---
This restaurant never disappoints. We were not hurried to drink, eat and run. Fantastic waiter, Sasha. All appetizers, food, drinks and dessert were spot on.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful. Attentive. Expensive. But not world class food.
The restaurant is beautiful. The service is forst class. The food is not. Not inventive. Not well seasoned. Not a broad variety of choices.
Be the first to ReplyGood allergy awareness
I have an allergy and Alejandro our waiter on the evening was very aware of my needs and subtle so made me feel just like another customer and not ‘a special case!’ Very reassuring and polite. He is an absolute credit to your restaurant.

What an amazing experience! The ambience on the patio was absolutely gorgeous with romantic lighting. Our server Giancarlo provided outstanding service, with spot on recommendations. The food and wine selections were amazing! There were complimentary delicious house cured olives and bread offerings of cheddar and Parmesan lavash and tapioca flour gluten free rosemary and thyme mini muffins. As starters, my husband and I shared the Japanese yellowtail crudo as well as the grilled peach and Reiner Farms burrata over arugula and mixed greens infused with a lemon vinaigrette. For our main course, we enjoyed steak diane flambéed table side with Joel Rubuchon mashed potatoes. Our dessert was sticky toffee pudding with mascarpone vanilla ice cream. We had two wines by the glass, but the winner was the 2018 Jonata Todos red blend, from Santa Inez Ballard Canyon. The entertainment provided by vocalist and acoustic guitarist Chris Woolley was delightful! If you’re looking for a delicious and romantic dinner in Santa Barbara, you owe it to yourself to splurge on the Stonehouse Restaurant at San Ysidro Ranch.

What’s there to say other than YOU MUST GO HERE! From pulling into the driveway, this place is just stunning. We first went for dinner, seated on the lower patio and then again for lunch because we loved it so much and were seated on the upper patio. Both locations are exquisite. The dinner service included live music which added to the already outstanding atmosphere. All staff interactions were professional and courteous. The food and drinks were delicious, so fresh and using local ingredients including from their own garden. Take the time to walk around the perfectly manicured gardens. This place is just magical. Perfect for a special occasion.
Be the first to ReplyUtterly stunning!
We visited for dinner on the recommendation of our hotel (the Rosewood Miramar) and it turned out to be our favourite dinner while staying in Montecito. The property is just beautiful. You must walk around after dinner and enjoy the gardens. It felt like we were in a dream! The food was great but I think I agree with the previous reviewer that it wasn’t absolutely the best food… 9/10 rather than 10/10. Like they said, you come here for the overall experience which is very special. Service is wonderful and we loved the smoked cocktails! We brought our kids (18 months, 9 and 12) and they were made to feel very welcome.
Be the first to ReplyVery nice overall experience
We went for our anniversary and it was a lovely setting with excellent service. The food was good. We had oysters, calamari, salmon and steak Diane. For dessert we shared the baked Alaska and that was the outstanding dish of the night. I make my own mint chip ice cream and the ice cream in the baked Alaska tasted just as good! We were also very pleased to have a bottle of organic zero dosage champagne (Champagne Chavost). Service was efficient and friendly. Overall, we went for the whole experience and weren't disappointed. But you don't come here for the food especially.
Be the first to ReplyLovely food, great wait staff, welcome needs some work.
We had booked a table for Sunday brunch for two couples to celebrate a birthday. We had dined the Friday night before as well and had asked where we would be seated for brunch. Our waiter went to check and came back and pointed to a table adjacent to the glass wall on the upper deck. We were well pleased with the table and looked forward to a beautiful brunch enjoying the lovely view. When we arrived for our 10 am reservation, we were told by the unengaged hostess we would be sitting outside downstairs where there is no view. We said that we had already checked previously and confirmed we would be sitting upstairs at the indicated table. She insisted they were “full” and we were now downstairs and there was nothing she could do about it. We dug in our heels and asked to speak to her manager. Another employee, presumably a manager, came over and asked if she could assist. We explained and she conferred with said hostess, told us the table we had been promised was now given to “onsite guests” but did provide a table on the upstairs deck albeit farther from the water view. We sat for two hours and watched the original table remain empty and not only were they not full, many tables remained empty the whole time we were there! Despite the rocky welcome we did enjoy a lovely meal and great service as was enjoyed Friday evening, however SYR did not endear themselves to us with their practice of holding tables for on site guests for an unlimited time period and not being honest with us they were full when they clearly were not. Not feeling valued as a guest would make me think twice about returning when there are numerous great restaurants in the SB area.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible Service and No Regard for Privacy
Myself and my partner dined at the Stonehouse restaurant and had an exceptionally disappointing experience. Entering the grounds was truly magical – the ambiance and the scenery lived up to every expectation we had. We were warmly greeted by the hostess who was very kind and prompt; unfortunately that’s where our positive experience ended. Our waiter was brusque to say the least. The few times he stopped at our table he seemed preoccupied and displeased at our very presence. After about half an hour he finally asked us for our drink order – two of the smoked cocktails. We were happy to pay the $33/each for the tableside experience; however, our waiter decided upon himself to forgo the recipe and smoke the (very different) cocktails simultaneously using the same wood to save himself time. Had we known we were going to receive a rushed and sloppy experience, we would have opted for another drink on the menu. Additionally, our waiter never brought nor did he instruct anyone to bring the complimentary bread basked to our table. One of the bussers noticed that we had been sitting at an empty table while all of the surrounding tables had been taken care of and took it upon himself to attend to us. Despite the abysmal service up to this point, we were still looking forward to enjoying our dinner and a couple of glasses of wine; however, it would be another 45 minutes before our waiter returned to take our food order. In the same time he visited the adjacent tables almost five times each. Further, he never inquired about additional beverages. In fact, we sat at our table for the remainder of the evening with empty glasses that constantly disrupted the delivery of our plates. On top of all that, another one of the employees used my name to track me down on social media and requested to follow one of my accounts. I find it incredibly shocking that someone on your staff would feel that violating one of your guest’s privacy was an appropriate thing to do. I have never left a restaurant more dissatisfied.

We went with high expectations, and the experience was outstanding, Food , wine , setting and service were all outstanding.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food, not enough staff
We had a lovely table outside which was set in beautiful garden and a very romantic setting. The food was exceptionally good. What let it down slightly was the service. Our server was excellent but he was simply run off his feet and didn’t have the time. He tried his hardest and was a super personality but they just don’t have enough staff to provide the 5* experience you would expect.
Be the first to ReplyOnce in a Lifetime Experience
We have eaten at a lot of special restaurants over the years, but nothing has ever compared to our evening at The Stonehouse. We went for my husband's 60th birthday. We arrived a bit early & were encouraged to get a cocktail & walk around the property. All I can say is I'm sure glad we did arrive early. The property is simply breathtaking. It was a wonderful way to start the evening. We were seated in the garden which was absolutely beautiful. Our waiter was perfect; had a good personality, but wasn't intrusive. Our meal was paced perfectly. All I can say about the food is perfection; every single bite. I had the halibut & my husband had the steak with the preparation prepared tableside. Both was incredible! Every single bite. We also had a delicious salad & the purple potato side dish. Just writing about it brings back the delectable taste of everything. You must save room for dessert! We had the chocolate souffle which was expertly prepared. After dinner we were encourage to walk around some more which we did. We were at The Stonehouse for 3 1/2 hours & it truly flew by. I can not recommend this restaurant highly enough!! If you are questioning whether it is worth it or not, it is!! A once in a lifetime meal!!
Be the first to ReplyAnniversary Dinner
We had been here before for another anniversary. It really is a wonderful place for a celebration. This time we were seated outside downstairs and it was very pleasant. The food as always is excellent as well and the drinks we had before dinner. The service is also amazing. We look forward to the next time we are in the Santa Barbara area to go there again.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing dining experience
Stonehouse Restaurant provides an exceptional dining EXPERIENCE! It is truly more than just a restaurant. We arrived early to walk around the grounds before our reservation. The scenery is absolutely stunning. A wonderful staff member, Agustin, offered to take photos for us and went above & beyond, moving to different locations to get the perfect shot. The restaurant itself is remarkable. All appetizers, entrees, and dessert was phenomenal. Our waiter, Christian, was so knowledgable and kind. This was truly one of our best dining experiences EVER and would highly, highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Santa Barbara/Montecito area.
Be the first to ReplyMostly Wonderful
Some dishes are great and some just ok. For the price nothing should fall into the just ok category. The good news is, management and staff will bend over backwards to make things right if there is something that displeases. For example one night the salmon was so dry and fishy, it was laughably bad and I said to the waiter, “somebody in the kitchen should really taste this stuff before they send it out.” He nearly fell over with dismay. He wasn’t questioning it; he was embarrassed and appalled. It ended up the two salmon entrees were removed from the bill and free desserts and other things were provided. You can’t ask for more than that. This is a beautiful and magical place and they want everyone to be happy.
Be the first to ReplyJust amazing…….
We had our wedding dinner yesterday. In this absolutely outstanding restaurant. The very friendly and charming hostess made it possible for us to have a wonderful table for our wedding dinner at short notice. The entire stay at this wonderful facility was perfect. Great wines and great food combined with perfect service made this evening an unforgettable experience!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely Perfect!
What an amazing experience. The restaurant is enchanting. We visited with some friends, and from arrival up the road to the restaurant to the beautifully lit trees, the service, absolutely everything was excellent. The food was amazing. Would just love to return for another perfect evening!
Be the first to ReplySimply Perfection!!
This is our second time staying at San Ysidro Ranch. We love the Stonehouse Restaurant here on the property so much, we never ate anywhere else!! The service, ambiance, and food are Perfection!! If you are ever in the Santa Barbara area, this restaurant is a MUST!!!
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere, excellent service
We were completely charmed by this place. The service begins right as you walk in the door. Two gentleman brought us cocktails while we waited for our table (we were early.)
We had very fresh oysters, their delicious tortilla soup (you must try it!), and steak Diane which comes with a little flambe show table-side. It was perfectly cooked. We also had smoked cocktails which also came with a table-side smoking show as well. We loved it.
Attentive Service. Magical atmosphere. A decadent night, but completely worth it.
Champs Brunch
Had friends in from Europe, couldn’t think of a better spot to have brunch. Grounds are spectacular, service is very good, and food is outstanding!! Christian is an excellent representative of the property, he worked hard to accommodate us. Would definitely recommend and I will for sure be back.
Be the first to ReplyWow. A little like you went to heaven for dinner...
I had an amazing time. This place is more beautiful than I remembered. Set up high in Montecito with almost an ocean view... maybe there is one but the lush plantings obscure it... you can imagine you're Oprah or Ellen nearby and think of how they live. Which is very well.
It would have been nice to dine indoors and the Stonehouse is world-class charming inside but during this most recent surge of Covid, I wouldn't. Fortunately, there is a LOT of outdoor dining space on two levels.
The host Kona was lovely and fun and really understood what I wanted out of a table, and the server Adam was adept, expert and lots of fun, too... all in the perfect amount of what you'd want from service in a fine resort dining experience like this. Never stuffy, just engaged and warm.
Now to the food. I loved my perfectly cooked and very retro Steak Diane, which comes with a healthy side of potato puree and lots of tasty green beans. My mom used to make Steak Diane years ago and no one will ever top her version, but this comes close. Adam flambeed it to perfection at the table. He is really talented at cooking table side, I must say. And it does make for a more special occasion when your entree starts off flaming.
I began dinner with the cucumber gazpacho... which unfortunately wasn't as successful and I like cucumber. It was tasty but quite watery... the consistency needs work. I finished the night with the mint ice cream Baked Alaska, which really didn't work and is my only real regret of the night. There are better desserts on the menu. The ice cream was really good but the flavor was too strongly minty and the combo with the meringue was odd. I kept burping it up all night, like I had just rinsed my mouth with really expensive, overpowering mouthwash. It really took over the meal that way. Oh well. I got over it.
The tortilla soup was a hit with my dining partner, as was his Jidori chicken. He really, really liked that chicken. No one usually likes chicken that much, but this was an exception. It's what most chickens aspire to be. As is this restaurant. I'm still on a high even a week later.
I will definitely come back (hopefully again and again). It's not cheap. but it is considerably less pricey than dining at the other 5-star hotel down the road on the water that shall remain nameless. Boy, that place was too much money plus they serve watered down drinks... maybe inspired by their watery location? Not the case here. Our martinis were great and just the right strength.
I also want to mention the rest of the staff I encountered on the premises (lobby, valet and entrance)... all were friendly and nice. That matters a lot when it comes to the overall experience. And what an experience this was.
Beautiful Setting
We joined our friends for lunch at the Stonehouse. We reserved a table on the outdoor patio area which was lovely. This is an expensive spot for lunch, so not an every day lunch experience. The grounds are beautiful and worth walking through.
The food was excellent with the exception of the wild rice in one dish which was under cooked. Not what one would expect at this caliber of restaurant. The souffles were perfection.
The other aspect of this dining experience that missed the mark was the service - it was surprisingly inattentive and a bit disjointed. We had to ask for coffee refills, and had to flag someone down to get salt and pepper. The kinds of things that just shouldn't happen at this level.
But overall, a lovely dining experience. Don't miss walking the grounds!
Beautiful setting, very nice food but pricy
My family of three stopped for a nice lunch. The setting is truly stunning. Such gorgeous gardens with an abundance of color and everything is drought tolerant. There is also a water garden and the chef’s garden so salads are especially fresh. I can imagine it is beautiful at sunset when the white lights In the trees are on.
My husband and I split a crab cake and had salads while our son had the Kobe beef sliders and the triple chocolate cake. The food was very good, very fresh, and nicely presented. I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the price. Lunch for the three of us was approximately $150 without any alcohol. Part of the price covers the setting. I’m glad we went and it was very nice, but I wouldn’t consider it the best lunch ever.
Really, Really Special
I hadn't been here in nearly 20 years and was excited to make a return trip. Dinner on the lower patio beneath the trees by the fountain was just magical. Everything we ate was incredible, and Ivana was a first-class server. It's very expensive, but you have to pay for quality. This was worth every penny and then some, and we'll be back on our next visit to Montecito.
