Lobster week. All very good.
I am on their e-mail mailing base and they told me about a "lobster" promotion, which ended today, 27th. I am a fan of lobster (my wife less so) but happily we booked. The restaurant was busy, it felt like half of Essex had turned out for lobster. My wife, not so hungry just had two "starters" instead. She loved them both. I had Escargots, serving very differently, which I really liked. I had a large lobster, chunky fries and salad. Totally yummy. I had the option with butter/garlic. Instead of "Lobster Thermidor"; the Pier like all seafood restaurant in the land, serve this option. Don't get it. Never had. Thermidor is covered in cheese, which in my (humble) opinion does not enhance the flavor of the meat. I was feeling in a greedy mood and unlike me I went for a panna-cotta desert. We had a nice "end of bin" Italian white wine. The whole meal was really nice, a great end of the bank holiday weekend with friends. I think I better go on a diet for a week. Enjoy.

Overpriced food Disappointed to find no lobster available considering its a lobster festival week Ended up having the tiniest piece of cod ever!! it was like a child's portion ยฃ18.95 what a joke
Be the first to ReplyA special dinner in the evening sunshine
We have just come back from a wonderful dinner at The Pier. The experience elevated by being seated on the balcony on such a beautiful evening. Unexpected and much appreciated - it really added to our special family dinner. The food was absolutely superb and the service was fantastic - our waitress was really excellent and a great ambassador for The Pier. We look forward to returning!
Be the first to ReplyThe best in Tendring
Yet again a great meal for 10 people. The cod on lobster linguini was so fresh and a generous portion , larger and fresher than all the other places we have been in Tendring. This really is the best at affordable prices in the area by a country mile. Everyone agreed and what a view
Be the first to ReplyGreat lunch, lovely staff.
Visiting Harwich to see a relative, we again booked for lunch at the Pier. Such a lovely dining room, and friendly staff. We ordered a fresh Harwich crab starter to share from the specials menu and this was delicious. The salad served with it had a lovely dressing. For our main courses we had the whole sea bream with chorizo butter, broccoli and crushed new potatoes. Husband said it was delicious. The stripped bones agreed! Aunt had the fish and chips which also looked so inviting. There wasnโt much left. I had the fish pie which came with spring greens. It had obviously been constructed to order and was hotter than Vesuvius! Delicious and very filling. We didnโt leave room for desserts. Whilst there we saw other diners enjoying seafood platters, moules, skate and steaks. As we were finishing, some diners were having afternoon tea which looked generous. Same time next year?
Be the first to ReplyBrilliant service and very accommodating
After a long Journey from Cornwall myself and a group of girls arrived at the restaurant with limited to time as we were catching the night ferry, the staff were so accommodating and did everything to make sure we had our meals in plenty of time, the quality of the food was Brillant and we would return again . Thank you
Be the first to ReplyPlates need to be cleared quicker
Four of us ate in the Navyard Good portions of scampi and lovely chips. Not a lover of mushy peas I finished the lot. Nice and busy. Staff were great but the plates could have been cleared earlier. Iโm sure if I had asked they would have been. Looking forward to the haโpenny pier takeover.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous lunch
Today we celebrated my Wifeโ s 70th birthday with our two sons, their wives and four grandchildren. Making the booking was simple, polite and efficient. On arrival we were offered a large round table which comfortably sat all ten of us . Great menu options including a great โKids โmenu. Fabulous food . Sensibly priced . Just a small observation that the service was a little slow . Looking forward to to returning. Thank you
Be the first to ReplyFriendly personal but the food was disappointing.
Nice interior and nice service, but the food was very disappointing. Grains of gravel in the mussels, the fish and chips tasted like oil, no flavor at all... and the shrimp cocktail was covered in way too much sauce that the lettuce and shrimp were difficult to find.
Be the first to ReplyLovely light lunch with friendly service.
Very good selection on the lunch menu. Well presented and good service. We dropped into the Navyard cafe/ bar on the off chance and quickly seated. Three of us had the smoked salmon and prawns on toast and our friend had the roasted harrissa carrots with feta. Everyone enjoyed their lunch and agreed we'd definitely come back. Bright and sunny bar. Comfortable seats and a well stocked bar with many wines by the glass. Also dog friendly, which for us is a bonus.
Be the first to ReplyA visit after many years
The welcoming, the cleanliness of the place, the position, but above all the delicious food and the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. That is what I found on my visit with friends having come to this part of the word after many years. On arrival we were welcomed by Sally the supervisor who ensured that we were well looked after without being overshadowing. My starter of Butternut Squash Soup served with little potatoes doughnut was just the right choice for me after having had so much food over the holidays ร followed that with a Dover Sole (the catch of the day) fresh and meaty. Did not have a dessert but I shared a taste of my friendโs Sticky Toffee pudding which I found light and extremely delectable. Unfortunately I live a little too far from Harwich to use this resta more often but definitely I shall return when up this way.
Be the first to ReplyReal Treat!
In a rare day off work, dog free, child free, my husband and I paid a visit to the Pier in Harwich (although I should add children are welcome there, and dogs can apparently go in the NAVYARD Bar). Being a beautiful sunny July afternoon we sat out on the balcony. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of wine. We started by sharing some lovely Colchester Rock Oysters with shallot vinaigrette. I had roasted nass (for the first time) with parma ham, mussels and garlic mash, which was absolutely delicious and my husband had the vegan pakora and lentil dahl with pickled red onion. We had a side of broccoli. Service was fabulous and I would return.
Be the first to ReplyNot what it was
We dined here a number times around 3-4 years ago (before the pandemic) and it was, at that point, a destination restaurant. Classy, excellent service and excellent food. Relatively expensive, but worth it. Unfortunately they seem to have changed their strategy and now target the lower end of the market. When we visited recently, service was polite, but not good and the food was very average. You'd feel at home in jeans and a t-shirt. A real shame as this used to be the best restaurant for miles around. Not anymore!
Be the first to ReplyA special birthday meal
We had a delicious 3 course evening meal (not the set menu) to celebrate my daughters birthday. The lovely waitress (On Tuesday eve) was very attentive and was there to help us decide what to opt for. My daughter chose the risotto while I opted for the venison, both dishes were delicious and presented well. A Happy birthday plate was brought to the table which was a lovely gesture for my daughter. The wine was good and so was the coffee after. We then chose to have a drink downstairs before our lift home arrived. Thank you to the staff who made my daughters evening a very relaxing and special one. We loved it. Xx
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing Lunch
Disappointing lunch the monkfish tail korma was to dry and tough so had to send this back. We was given a refund for this however such a shame as out on a birthday celebration. Based on this experience will not be returning anytime soon.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Saturday Night
Fortunately our party of eight had booked a table for a meal at the Pier on Saturday night. The restaurant and bar area were incredibly busy, but the staff were doing a great job of coping well with the pressure. Four of the group decided on the set menu which for three courses was very good value and had a good choice of options. All the food was delicious and beautifully presented. All the staff were friendly and efficient checking on us to see if we needed anything and were happy to answer any questions. Special mention to our young waitress Hayley who did such a good job dealing with the confusion some of us caused, all with politeness and a cheerful smile. I would definitely recommend the Pier for a great night out, with fabulous food and a great menu.
Be the first to ReplyTop Quality Food
I called in for dinner before sailing on the Harwich > Hoek van Holland ferry. I had the Lamb Chops, which were cooked to perfection. Excellent food and very friendly service
Be the first to ReplyEasy, relaxing long lunches.
My wife and I loved our lunch today. We chose our dishes from a full and unusual menu. Everything cooked very well. Service friendly and efficient. Surroundings maritime rather than rural or urban. Decor clean and comfortable. We tried ; Onion soup, crab claws, fish pie and apple crumble. Tip. You need time to eat the very messy but delicious crab claws. ( The service is rather slow anyway, which the waiting staff warned us about. This is not a place serving fast food.) Went home happy.
Be the first to ReplyGluten free friendly!
Had the most amazing meal at the pier this evening. Being gluten free I was worried there wouldnโt be much option but I was spoilt for choice. Not many places you can go and have the option of a gluten free fish pie, fish and chips or a lobster Thermidor. I will definitely be back - amazing and such a fab atmosphere for a fun Saturday night out!
Be the first to ReplyA true London vibe!
Just had a lovely evening at The Pier Restaurant. The food was delicious. Very well presented and tasted amazing. The lobster was to die for! The atmosphere was the perfect vibe! The best I have found outside of London. We will definitely be back!!
Be the first to ReplyGOOD AFTERNOON TEA
I RECOMMEND THIS VENUE (AFTERNOON TEA) Good food and service. Our food was was good and plenty of it and the food I saw being served looked great. Parking wasn't a problem but on a busier day it could be hard to park. I managed to park in a bay opposite the resturant, even though there wasn't any disabled bays a blue badge holder could park free for 3 hours (parking for 2 hours was about ยฃ2.40). The only other thing was the toilets were downstairs but there was a slow lift not ideal if in a rush.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect
Been here many many times usually staying overnight, food and service are always excellent. The rooms facing the sea are our favourite
Be the first to ReplyNice breakfast
We had a lovely breakfast here The presentation was great and so was the quality of the food The building is very old but well kept Overall we had a good experience
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely stunning
Last minute dot com visit by us and a recommendation by a friend. I know the restaurant was a little quiet but what an absolutely charming and enjoyable visit by my wife and i. The staff were very polite and helpful. We had a drink downstairs to start with then when our reservation was ready walked upstairs to the first floor dining area. Very clean and tidy great atmosphere great out look couldnโt of asked for anything better. Food was awesome and on point. Staff friendly and informative and nothing was a problem to make our visit really enjoyable. Priceโs were very good and am definitely come again and visiting the groups other establishments. Cant thank them enough
Be the first to ReplyAmazing location, terrible food!
We visited Harwich in July to catch up with family after 7 years away. We were both really looking forward to British fish and chips and the Pier has (had?) a great reputation. Apart from the actual food - everything else was amazing. Somebody dropped the ball in the kitchen clearly. Haddock and chips (2 portions) - chips passable, not crunchy, peas great, fish - tasteless โSpecialโ Nuss and chips. Bone removed, small portion, tasteless, soggy batter. 2/3 left on plate - not questioned by staff. Fish cakeโฆ.. hereโs the one that really fell short of the mark. Imagine taking a hard boiled egg, surrounding it with leftover fish and way too much potato, coating in Pablo bread crumbs and shallow frying til soggy. Then serve on a plate surrounded by a pale white sauce with peas and tiny crispy bits of bacon garnished by some unwashed watercress. Disappointing!
