nice location but food was no good and service extremely slow. used to be better back in the days
Be the first to ReplyThe cafe is in St James's Park.
Stopped for breakfast and loved it. They had pastries and full breakfast options. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyInn the Park technically no longer exists.
The same building still stands there, and it's a restaurant... but it's now called St. James Cafe. If you liked the old Inn the Park (I did), you'll be disappointed by the changes. They no longer serve afternoon tea; they have no waiters or table service. Food is cafeteria-style hot and cold options (chilled packaged sandwiches, a couple of salads, one daily soup option, fish and chips, some cakes and pastries), which you load onto a tray and carry back to your table. Food's not very good, and painfully overpriced.
Be the first to ReplyCute cafeteria style eatery in idyllic St James Park.
Directly across from Whitehall and perfect for lunch after watching the entire changing of the Queen's Horse Guards. Food is beautiful - three nice salad options, sandwiches, as well as some hot food, coffee/tea and desserts.

This is a tourist magnet so it's crowded, slightly overpriced and full of families and unruly children but once we got our coffees, we took them to the rooftop terrace which was surprisingly serene. With a backdrop of the rest of St James Park in one direction and the London Eye in the other, we were grateful the staircase up was obscured from more wide ranging access. This place is worth it if you can grab your bites quickly and sit elsewhere to enjoy the park.

Grabbed a quick breakfast on the way to the Churchill Museum. Food was worthy of three stars but the place was nice, the service was good and quick, and the prices were fair (for London).
Be the first to ReplyNyc has so much to learn from London.
Having good food in a gorgeous park is just one. Stopped here for fuel for touring. Had delicious carrot/butternut squash soup served in an actual crock with a side of delicious multigrain bread. The americano was worth if. Only been in London for about 30 HR but it's the best coffee I had so far. Great to chase away jet lag. Try a scone and yes it's served with clotted cream and jelly. And guess what... they use actual cutlery. It's more civilized here. Beer and prosecco on tap, ahhh Europe. And yes beer in the cooler. Don't forget to look for the pelicans.

This is a charming place to stop for lunch if you're visiting the sites in Westminster. We stopped here after visiting the Churchill War Rooms and enjoyed fish and chips with outdoor seating. The food was good, and the atmosphere better.

We were BEYOND tired after the British Museum AND the Churchill War Rooms tour (close to this restaurant) and were just looking eat a little something and rest. It took a while to navigate the cafeteria style line (more because of other indecisive tourists, myself included) but I'm so glad we did. The food was much better than it looked at first and the Vegan lentil pie was so amazingly spiced that I'm still thinking about it. I got a scone too to hedge my bets (and because well, it is London) and it was the best scone I had in London. Clearly they have a real chef back there and I'd love to see what else they could come up with. My husband was a happy camper with his sausage roll and cool beer. We were so lucky to get a wonderful table outside overlooking the lake/river...and it was just magical. This is a happy place.

After a day of walking around in London in rainy weather this was the first place we found to eat. Bright eyed and starving we were excited to try something new! BIG MISTAKE!! The customer service was horrible I felt looked down upon and discriminates against possibly for being America?. They also had a lack of lunch time options. However they priced everything like they were high end. The only nice comment I can give is to the cleanliness and the portion sizes. My only advice for fellow travelers when your starving after a long day of sightseeing is to keep walking this place is not worth your time!

This place doesn't have stellar food, but the location is magical. Straight across from it you can see Whitehall and the Millennium Eye. They also have a nice, quiet rooftop from where you can sit and watch the world go by.The process is pretty simple. You can sit and ask for table service or you can opt for self service. We went in twice for drinks and opted for the latter. You pick a tray, select your drinks (if you want cold beverages) and pay at the counter. If you want a hot beverage and/or a piece of cake or a scone, your pay first & then pick up the beverage and snack from its respective counters. Btw, the lemon drizzle cake was sweet and buttery and the memory of sitting and having it on the patio while overlooking the pond will stay with me forever.
