The overall experience is very average.
Hmm... I should say it's very bad. The restaurant is dark, not very suitable for taking pictures, and the food is not delicious... The most basic one for the four of us is $95/person. If you only want to order three or two portions, the remaining people need to pay $30 each, which is equivalent to the cost of tea. The waiter seemed to be an Indian or Pakistani uncle, and there was an embarrassing moment in the middle. We told him that we need to add some hot water to the teapot; he then asked me what kind of tea was in it. While I was answering him, the uncle took off his mask and put his nose directly to the spout of the teapot with the lid off to smell it! ! ! What kind of disgusting operation is this?

The food and service is good but be warned I read on website and called hotel and was told the palm court breakfast is open from 6-10 am I got there at 9:30 and was told breakfast for guests at hotel open till 10 non guests till 9 I was mad they offered to eat in champagne bar but I said no I ate afternoon tea which cost me $465 for 3
Be the first to ReplyWhile I have been fortunate to savor delightful high tea
While I have been fortunate to savor delightful high tea experiences at various places around the world, Palm Court left me longing for the excellence and sophistication that define the true essence of the high tea tradition. While priced comparable to other esteemed high tea places, it lacks the quality and quantity in food, creativity in the menu, and the service fell far short of expectations.

I came here for a birthday high tea on a Saturday, and the decor is gorgeous, definitely an upscale place. However, the price is quite steep and the service and food don't match it. I will say, I have a great experience with our server, but even with a reservation, we had to wait in a long line to get seated. And when I got up to go to the restroom to wash my hands, 1) it was super far away from the dining room on the 2nd floor, and 2) there was a staff member in the women's restroom (a man) who seemed to be refilling the toilet paper who was super rude. I pushed the door open to try and go into the restroom, and the man yelled "no, you can't come in here!" I told him I just needed to wash my hands, and he just yelled "no!" and slammed the door closed and locked the restroom. For a hotel and restaurant of this caliber, you would expect much more polite staff. The man was extremely rude and mean, and when he eventually came out, there wasn't even hand soap in the dispenser. Seriously?? If you're going to rudely shut the door on a guest while maintaining the restroom, at least make sure everything is in place?? Overall, the high tea experience is very fancy if that's what you are looking for, and the sandwiches and pastries are delicious. They did give me and my friend small chocolate cakes with candles to celebrate our birthdays, and our server was really sweet. But the staff members in other parts of the hotel definitely need some training on how to treat their guests. The guy in the bathroom definitely soured the experience. He didn't even apologize and was rude for no reason.
Be the first to ReplyHonestly, this was one of the most disappointing afternoon
Honestly, this was one of the most disappointing afternoon tea experiences I have ever had. The Plaza is GORGEOUS and part of going to tea here is just the experience of being in the Plaza. But with that said, it's an expensive afternoon tea at about $150 a person after tax and tip (which is included) so you expect the food to be good. But it was wildly disappointing. With the basic tea you get two scones - a savory scone which is actually very good and a double chocolate scone which is very dry. You get 5 tea sandwiches, only one of which we enjoyed. The classic cucumber sandwich is good, but the egg sandwich is more of a firm egg custard with strawberry jam that is an unpleasant texture with little taste. The Moroccan lamb sandwich has good flavor but the texture was extremely off-putting and paste like, the pastrami salmon was fishy, and the grape and cheese was fine but the cheese is strong (it is a blue cheese which can be polarizing but it's fine). The dessert selection includes a macaron which is good, a cheesecake that has a nice flavor but a soggy crust, a hazelnut rocher with improperly set mousse, an ube tart with another soggy crust and caramel tart which was fine. After a disappointing meal, we were also rushed out of there! We had a 4PM tea reservation, which is the last slot of the day. They begin happy hour around 5 in the Palm Court so the wait staff rushed us out (to go containers on the table while we were still eating, check before we asked for it, table cleared before we signed the check, etc.). It would be one thing if we were just sitting around but we had to wait a long time for the food to even come out so we had very little time to have the tea experience - turns out it was a good thing we didn't like the food because we wouldn't have had time to eat it all anyway! All in all - absolutely skip afternoon tea here. Save your dollars and go to the Crosby for half the price.
Be the first to ReplyIt's The Plaza.
It's The Palm Court. It's all about ambiance, the history, and the sweets. I assume reservations are a must. Arriving, we were immediately greeted by plenty of staff who were happy to hear it was my birthday and usher us over to our people and place watching table for the next hour and a half or so. The seating is comfortable and the view is historic, but I surprised that no one asked to check our coats and by our table's proximity to a server staging area. Looking at the China, I couldn't help but think the gold trim wearing off at the edges was as fitting a metaphor for the deluge of American capitalism as you'll find anywhere. The whole space is beautiful and classic, but in many ways, the best way to spend your time is people watching. As far as I can tell, the three most common patrons are families with young daughters who recently read Eloise, people wearing velvet, and probably oligarchs each of whom add their own character to the proceedings. The food was mostly very tasty. The scones are best enjoyed first and warm, then finger sandwiches that are toasted that perfect amount that gives a little crisp without browning, the caviar macaroon is best avoided entirely as it's an abomination of the highest order although warranted a photo, then the sweets, which are ample, varied, and all delicious. The tea itself was served hot in a big pot and very delicious. As we were wrapping up, they brought over a very tasty slice of chocolate cake with a candle and some happy birthday chocolates, a great ending note. All in all, tea at The Palm Court was a nice once in a lifetime treat although I have to dock a star for the little things at the price point.
Be the first to ReplySome of the most rude service I've experienced in NYC.
Very surprising for a tea service that cost 150+ per perso. Would not recommend. We arrived early and checked in with the hostess, and she took our name and said to return in 20 mins for seating. When we came back in 20 mins, a long line had formed but I figured we had already checked in and could skip it. Nope, the hostess told us to wait in the line for another 20 mins. So bizarre - why wouldn't she tell us to get in line in the first place? Why did we need to check in with her twice? Then later I asked a server to take a photo of our table because we were celebrating a birthday. She said "No I'm not allowed" and walked away. Truly bizarre.
Be the first to ReplyHad afternoon tea.
Nice location and delish pastries. Attention and service at the table were good; however, I felt there is room for improvement - reason why I gave it 4-stars! was superb and staff truly made my stay feel special.
Be the first to ReplyThe palm court is what it is.
It's a fun experience for a tourist. It's loud, crowded, and touristy. The high tea choices are pretty limited, but still tasty and you get a lot of food. If you are looking for a tourist experience, go here. If you are looking for a romantic, swanky high tea, go else here

3.5 stars but rounded up for service. I came here on a Monday afternoon for an afternoon tea experience. There was a line to the hostess stand when I arrived, but it moved swiftly. I was seated shortly after providing my name for my reservation. The Palm Court is the quintessential afternoon tea experience. The court is bright with classic decor. Food/Tea:I opted for the vegetarian afternoon tea set. I'm very appreciative that they had a full vegetarian option. They also have a vegan set and a gluten-free set. I enjoyed both the scones a lot. I ate about half of my sandwiches, and the raspberry macaron for desert while I was there. I ordered the standard black english breakfast tea, and that was brewed great. Service:Service was admittedly a little slow to begin. My server's section was quite busy, and it did take her a little time to come greet me. It wasn't a problem; I could see she was running around. The tea and the set came quickly after ordering. As I was enjoying my food, the runners would refill my waters as necessary. Service was as expected, except when I left to the restroom. I was a single person, and I had left to the restroom. When I came back, my table had been completely cleared and cleaned off. I had not paid the check yet, and I still had a lot of food and tea left. I had left the hostess know what had happened. She talked to my server, and my server spoke with the chef. They apologized that the others must have thought I was done and had left. The chef was able to package a few extra goodies for me to take home to apologize for the mishap. I was grateful they tried to rectify the issue immediately. TL;DR - a classic afternoon tea setting I would definitely recommend even with my little snafu
Be the first to ReplyThe Plaza So, tea at The Plaza is mostly wonderful.
We usually love everything about it. The Palm Court is glamorously old world and beautiful. Sipping tea and champagne while enjoying tea sandwiches, scones, tarts and pastries in mesmerizing surroundings is a lovely way to spend an afternoon. There are even vegetarian, vegan and gluten free afternoon tea options (you MUST ask for them.) We, indeed , had a lovely afternoon, well, mostly. While the service today was not impolite, it was VERY rushed....too, TOO rushed, from beginning to end. We could not understand why as there were empty tables and no one was waiting. The absurdly hurried service has never, ever, occurred before. We were then told that our waiter was nearing the end of his shift, which, frankly, should not impact patrons, not at all. When patrons are enjoying afternoon tea at The Plaza (for approximately $200 per person) they should not be rushed through due to shift change issues. A very disappointing service glitch which so negatively impacted our dining and must be rectified by management. (Usually the service is very professional, civilized, so very polished and NOT rushed.) We often enjoy lunch, champagne, etc. at the Palm Court bar, where service is not rushed and much more accommodating. While the ambiance in The Palm Court is glorious, afternoon tea today could have been so much better as the service today was uncharacteristically abrupt and hurried.
Be the first to ReplyRight when my girlfriend and I entered, we were forced to
Right when my girlfriend and I entered, we were forced to wait at the host desk while multiple hosts scrambled trying to find us a table. It seemed like there was an issue but they didn't want to let us know. Finally we get seated, and it's at a horrible table hidden in the back, also about two feet away from 2 ladies dining next to us. The ladies started making horrible remarks about why WE would sit there making it seem like it was our fault, not the restaurant's seating arrangements. They continued to make rude comments about us the whole time we were there and we just tried our best to ignore it. I have no idea why we were sat there when other tables and booths were available. I expected the tea service to make up for the seating, but I was absolutely wrong. The waiter tended to the ladies next to us around 10 times while he only checked in with us once while we were there. The food came out way before our tea which was shocking to me. We had to wait more for our tea to come out while the table next to us had everything right away. Once we started eating, the food was also a let down too. I was expecting it to taste better than it did. We took one bite of everything and had to leave the rest because it just wasn't good. The only thing I liked was the flavor of the tea I received and the decor of the restaurant. I highly recommend going somewhere else for tea, will never come here again due to exceptionally rude staff, patrons, and mediocre food.
Be the first to ReplyWow. What an incredible disappointment. First we
Wow. What an incredible disappointment. First we ordered the signature tea. Asked if we wanted water or sparkling. Asked for still ice water and later realized we had not only not gotten ice but we had a $12 bottle of Evian!!!!! Tea, water, mandatory 18% gratuity and tax and we spent more than $300 for two. Now I don't mind spending money for a quality product but this was NOT that. Tea pot was big enough for four people which meant the expensive tea got cold quickly. Food was lackluster. Sweets were too sweet and flavorless. Savories were even less flavorful. Bread was stale or hard. Overall NOT good. Service was even worse. Clearly they weren't trying to work for a gratuity since the 18% was mandatory. Had to ask for things many times. ConsVery expensiveFood quality poorService quality poorPros. Nice setting but NOT at all worth the price.
Be the first to ReplyThe pros: beautifully designed and conveniently located in
The pros: beautifully designed and conveniently located in the Plaza hotelNow for the cons - terrible service. We ate here a few times for breakfast while staying at the Plaza. I blame the mandated gratuity - it is clear the the servers aren't working for a tip. The food was always late and the service was not up standard for the price.Although the service was lacking, the food was well prepared. I would recommend the banana pancakes and the "create your own" omelette. Overall, this restaurant brings down the elevated experience of the Plaza Hotel.
Be the first to ReplyOoh la la, The Palm Court at the Plaza! Yes, it's a splurge
Ooh la la, The Palm Court at the Plaza! Yes, it's a splurge (but you deserve it).Yes, it's going to be full of tourists (but it's sometimes fun to be a tourist in your own city, isn't it?)Yes, it's so beautiful that you may be compelled to stay and order a second and third drink, the total price of which you will notice is the cost for a semi fancy dinner for two (but you are tipsy and don't care by this point). And during the holidays, the place is choking with Christmas! The trees, the lights, the glittering everything! So many hotel bars are packed at this time of year and just too overwhelming to contemplate joining the crowds (St. Regis, I'm looking at you), The Palm Court at the Plaza is a huge space and they can accommodate your group. We were 8 people and had immediate seating.Note: This review is based solely on my after 9pm experience. My cocktail was quite good but honestly, you're coming for the atmosphere so that's what I'm sharing here.
Be the first to ReplyWhat an elegant place.
Just so beautiful. The service was great. The pastries were cool. But just being there felt so relaxing and peaceful. Although there are many tourists who come in to take pictures... it's exciting to see how excited they are. There are different packages to choose from. Price varies but it's definitely on the pricey side. The package I got was about $118 per person. Cool experience. Went on a Thursday around 1pm and it was full. Reservation a must.Posted a video and some pictures on IG & Tik tok: @jessiica0204
Be the first to ReplyYes it is pricy but is an experience.
My granddaughters cheeks are still hurting from smiling. Food was good, service was smooth and a fun experience. The room is smaller than what it appears in promotional phots but not an issue
Be the first to ReplyCome for the afternoon tea, stay for the service form Fariz.
Fariz single-handedly gave me and the table adjacent to us, the best service I've ever hadPersonable, smiling. Articulate, an artist.Fariz is someone that makes a great experience, grand.Truly the best two hours we spent on our trip.
Be the first to ReplyThis review is for Afternoon tea-and it's "Just ok".
I've had tea around the world- London multiple times, Tokyo, other locations in NYC, and Chicago to name a few and I've had better tea elsewhere. So it's disappointing given the history of the hotel and tea here (one of the firsts in America). Came here for holiday tea at Christmas time. The room itself is beautiful and you can imagine what this was like over a 100 years ago. The hotel is beautiful but the tea service was far from the best I've ever had. First, the portions are tiny. Now, I understand it's all smaller sized finger sandwiches but can I get more than 1-2 bites? And, if you ask for seconds they'll charge you for it. And yes, I understand there are those that take advantage of "seconds" but at this price point it shouldn't be a big deal. Second, because they pre-cut these tiny sized portions- they get dried out. Ok tea selection. Service was good. Just not competitive- there are other locations in NYC that are better.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful setting in The Plaza.
We visited for afternoon tea on a weekday. Staff was friendly and overall attentive. The tea had good flavor, but the temperature was colder than I'd expect. The most disappointing thing was the food. We didn't eat more than a bite of most of it because the flavors were either bland or unpleasant. Additionally, the textures of the food were off (i.e., soggy cracker). It was a fun thing to experience, but won't return.
Be the first to ReplyWell, I really wanted to love this.
I wanted to take my baby here for her first tea time although she cannot drink tea lol my husband and I are used to tea time in Europe and this was just completely disappointing. For $115 per person or $99 per person, depending on which one you choose, which we got one of each, it was truly disappointing. The sandwiches were not fresh and the bread was hard. I was hoping that they would be fresh and soft, I don't know if they make it the same day or the morning of. It just was truly disappointing. I probably should've asked for new sandwiches. You can only choose one tea and they give you a huge pot of it. The staff was great but the actual service was not good. It wasn't fancy either. We dressed up and everyone had on jeans and sneakers some had on what looked like pajamas. It just ruined the whole ambience for us. The hotel is absolutely beautiful; but not what we planned on. I was hoping that the reviews were incorrect, but they were exactly on point. I wouldn't waste any more money here. So disappointing abs the food was extremely surprising and such poor quality. We spent way too much for some crusty old bread and heavy scones. I am still shocked at this experience but I suppose since it's at The Plaza, they feel they get a "free pass" to serve you what they want. What a shame.
Be the first to ReplyWhat better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than having tea
What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than having tea at the palm court. As a yearly tradition, my best friend and I go every year to celebrate our Birthdays. Due to Covid they were closed for awhile but they are back with a few changes. They replaced their signature green menus paper ones. We got the signature tea special with Rosè Champagne. For our tea selections we got the The Tropical Garden and Thè Des Alizés. The food selection comes with a three tier sections of fabulous treats. My only issue with the day was the bathrooms. They were dirty and had no toilet paper. To my memory, the prices have changed a bit but you are paying for the experience of being at the famous Plaza Hotel. With that being said, you would expect the bathrooms to be neater.
Be the first to ReplyYea at the plaza is a delightful event.
The options of different kinds of teas is vast. The staff is kind and friendly. It is suggested to have a reservation to ensure a seat for tea. Each food items is delicately prepared. It is evident that is is a high-end,fine dining event when having tea at the palm court.
Be the first to ReplyThe teas I had there were perfectly fine, but the place
The teas I had there were perfectly fine, but the place really shines after dark in the bar. The bartenders Russ, Gavin, and Tony were the nicest, most attentive, friendly guys you could want to serve you a drink. I highly recommend the Lady M cake and the Bellinis. They made me feel like a valued guest and were in great contrast to the Champagne Bar, which is more about leaving you in peace, if that is what you want. I was traveling alone so I enjoyed the friendly smiles. If you find yourself at The Plaza, make sure you go treat yourself!
