The Palm - Boston Reviews from The Last Year
Nice experience
The service and food were very good. The drinks were especially delicious. Nice ambience in the restaurant. I drove in from out of state so having a parking garage in the same building as the restaurant made the entire experience very easy.
This review is long overdue.
My family and I visited the Palm on Sunday February 18th and it's safe to say it was the worst dining experience ever. We were bringing my son's new girlfriend out to dinner for the first time and were expecting a comfortable fine dining experience. Instead we were embarrassed and uncomfortable as the evening was ruined by the frigid conditions in the restaurant. It was a very cold night and initially we thought we just needed to get acclimated but after sitting there for a while we were so cold we had to put out coats back on. We also noticed the most of the other tables and those seated at the bar were also eating with their coats on. At this point we decided to bring the issue to the attention of the manager Brian, in the hopes that he could remedy the situation. His only response was "sorry" the heat was not working and had not been since he arrived at 2 pm. He further said it was unlikely that it would be fixed that night as the hvac company was not responding and even if they did get there and fixed it would take an hour and a half to come up. I questioned why they even opened and were continuing to seat people. Again his response was a mere sorry. The absence of a forewarning or any acknowledgement of the situation upon arrival, only to be seated in such unfavorable conditions, is outrageous .At this point we discussed leaving with the rest of the family but we were hungry and felt it was too awkward as we had already ordered and our cocktails and apps had arrived. We absolutely should have gotten up and walked out as this restaurant clearly does not care about the comfort of its patrons. In addition the service and food that night was subpar as well. Service was slow and menu items were out of stock but not relayed at ordering. Instead we were told when the rest of the food was delivered. The calamari and bolognese was bland at best. The staff did seemed unusually discombobulated which I assume is attributable to the frigid conditions in the restaurant. After we paid the bill I again told the manager how outrageous we felt it was for them to remain open with people freezing. Again Brian responded with a dismissive "sorry". The next day I reached out to the parent company Landry Restaurant Group to express our dissatisfaction and after a week got a call from the Palms general manager, Corey who apologized and agreed that the conditions that night were unacceptable. He acknowledged that the temperature in restaurant never got above 60 degrees. He said the hvac company was on site working on it which directly contradicted what the manager on duty that night told us. Clearly he was trying to make the situation seem more acceptable. Corey stated that they would compensate us to the maximum extent for the horrible experience. After a month I finally got an email from Landry Restaurant Group with a Palm gift card for $100. This is on a $650+ bill! That didn't even cover the tip. When I expressed my disbelief at the paltry compensation Corey was completely uninterested. This speaks volumes about the management of both the Palm & Landry. The lack of preparedness raises valid concerns about why the establishment chose to open its doors without ensuring a comfortable environment for its patrons. We have been a customer of the Palm as well as the other Landry establishments for many years and have been generally satisfied but this experience has definitely changed our opinion of the group. There are many other fine dining restaurants in Boston to patronize that actually care about their customers.
My husband and I went to celebrate our 25th wedding
My husband and I went to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We expected a great dinner but it was anything but that. The food was definitely not worth the money. Our dinner was absolutely horrible. Clams casino were burnt and mushy. Steaks overdone. Mashed potatoes were literally like glue. Don't waste your hard earned money...you'll be sorely disappointed.
We had a Sunday lunch as a family group of 7.
We needed some love as we just left another nearby establishment after having a real bad experience with the brunch. We were "hangry".... The Palm delivered what we needed. Service was great, cocktails solid and food was very good with an exception of a seafood dish that was a bit too salty and needed a re-do. The manger Corey in an awesome jacket took an excellent care of the situation as well as our bill! And the awesome birthday carrot cake was on the house! Got job, guys! Will come again.
Five star service from Stephanie.
Came in for Easter lunch with friends and family with five kids. Food was great but the service was even better! The entire family had an amazing time!
The beautiful Palm restaurant at 1 International Place in
The beautiful Palm restaurant at 1 International Place in Boston is a lovely oasis from the bustle outside. That being said, I was a solo older professional female arriving for a light meal after the lunch rush. The restaurant was open, the staff was cleaning up after the lunch rush. I was offered a poor table next to the water and bus stand though the rest of the restaurant was empty. I said no and selected a nicer table elsewhere. The waiter was wonderful, but my food was difficult. The Cesar salad was limp and warm. The dressing had no garlic flavor or lemon bite. Just unseasoned creamy. I sent it back. I ordered "lightly breaded Calamari". It came properly cooked golden brown, but the breading was heavy, the plate of peppers was oily and the marinara again had very little flavor. As a chef I find that sad - so easy to make flavor. I ordered asparagus as a replacement for my warm salad. The very fat spears had not been selected, cooked or trimmed properly, so that the bottoms were shrunken, the stalks over cooked and the heads were non-existent on several stalks. I requested steamed. No dressing or butter was offered. All in all a disappointing experience in a lovely environment in a premium location. Perhaps I'll try again another time I am doing business in the building. It might have been an off day.
We've been here a couple times and it's been a Boston
We've been here a couple times and it's been a Boston tradition at this point. We always sit at the bar and was always so enthralled with the caricatures that was painted in the walls. They're the regulars that have earned a spot in the wall. We sat down and I ordered an Italian 75 from their cocktail menu. I was really impressed with the drink list as well as this cocktail. Fantastic take on the French 75! We were only here for a short while so we ordered shrimp cocktail and some oysters. Both were delicious and tasted very fresh. We sat a bit at the bar and then planned out the rest of our day. Great place!
Excellent steaks and perfect service.
A wonderful, traditional Palm experience, per usual. A great place for a meal for a group.
Surprised by the lower reviews for this restaurant.
The food was amazing, the service was impecable and the ambiance was classic Boston. I ordered a Wagyu filet with a lobster tail accompanied by creamed spinach, scalloped potatoes and fries. We had the indulgent sea food tower which was enough to share with 7 people. The food was so delicious and the steak so tender. I lost my beanie and the waiters went out of their way to find it. Would love to come back and visit.
solid place with great service
Was there prior to a Madonna concert and they did not disappoint; solid fast service and great food like other Palm Restaurants. Highly recommend.
Christmas day reservations.
First ones in restaurant. Was supposed to be a party of 6. Two were sick. Explained to Headwaiter. Was fitted a a very tight and tiny booth for 4. Two big guys in our party couldn't squeeze into booth. Requested another table. Was placed in small event room in back with NO sense of being in restaurant. Absolutely horrible. Mind you now up until I said our party number changed;we were probably going to be seated at a larger table (for party of 6). Service great food excellent. But will not go back. So much for special occasion dinner. It's pricey but for a Christmas gift to my family the food made made up for terrible table.
I ordered from The Palm tonight.
Everything was excellent thru Grub hub. Great shrimp, asparagus (grilled and thrilled with the seasoning and the pencil type), and perfectly filling container of garlic mashed potatoes. 5 stars. 12/21/23.
Anniversary Dinner
Food was delicious. Server was exceptional. Miss having The Palm Restaurant in Michigan, we used to go there a couple of times a year. Glad it was as good as I remember
