The Odeon New York Reviews from The Last Year
Last night I met with my girlfriends at The Odeon, great
Last night I met with my girlfriends at The Odeon, great culinary experience. The menu has unique dishes to the restaurant, from the specials for the day or the week, followed by the beverage menu with great cocktails , and great selection for dessert including Odeon's ice cream, delicious. The service was PERFECT, from the hostess to the servers. The ambiance, Friday night-NYC Summer; busy. The Odeon is a favorite of my friends, now it's a favorite of mine.

Interesting French style restaurant with a classy vibe on the inside. Food and drinks were great as well as the service but the prices seemed a little bit steep. This is definitely a place you come to on occasion. Didn't order it but the French onion soup looked outstanding. Their grilled cheeses were fantastic. Wish they had a few more drink choices too but there seemed to be enough options. Would eat here again!
The Odeon was packed when we went for Friday lunch, but
The Odeon was packed when we went for Friday lunch, but from the high prices and average food, I can't understand why. Between two people, we shared: - Moules Frites ($31) - This was a little different than the light white wine broth we expect as it had a creamy sauce. Mussels were sufficiently plump... but didn't love the flavor and wouldn't reorder. - Little Gem Caesar Salad ($19) - Price felt high for this extremely basic Caesar salad. - Steak Tartare ($23) - This was our least favorite dish and we barely finished half of it. Rather than steak tartare, the way it was seasoned and presented felt more raw hamburger patty and less steak tartare.

Didn't really have any expectations, but was pleasantly surprised! It was around 2pm, not too busy and we were seated quickly (it was just my mom and I). A brunch special menu was offered, but we opted for a French onion soup each to start and two egg dishes. The French onion was okay, but the cheese on top was what made it better than it was. For the eggs Benedict the hollandaise sauce was smooth and delicious and the eggs were poached perfectly. We also got an omelette with mushrooms, tomatoes, and spinach. Highly recommend getting an omelette because it was suuper soft. Overall nothing was too salty and the ambience was nice for lunch. TLDR; try the French onion if you've never had one before, otherwise I would skip it.
Oldie but goodie
Still hot and happening after all these years! Walked in and told there was an hour waitlist. Went online and got immediate reservation and seated right away! Food is good but if you are a people watcher, even better. Waitress spent more time talking to table next to ours about her education and lofty acting ambition. Overheard there were producers in the restaurant. I just reminisced about late night stops and various meals Ive had there 20 years ago and was happy to see them still around. One of the few nyc staples. Postcard ending was great souvenir.

It's very nostalgic and authentically retro in the space, despite being crowded it's quiet. Great service without trying too hard. Brunch was good but not exceptional, Dessert was a dream. So so good and the menu is filled with traditional favorites which I appreciate. I enjoyed people watching and the general feeling of old New York was so comforting. For me it was a splurge and worth it for the atmosphere and dessert.
Worst French onion soup in the world.
Not a real French restaurant, please avoid to save yourself money and go elsewhere
I would recommend reservations since the place was packed
I would recommend reservations since the place was packed on Wednesday night. We had a reservation but I wonder if it was possible to walk in without one. The service is nice and the place is classy. The food portion was small in comparison to their large plates. Overall a good experience.

Perfect spot for brunch or lunch in the Tribeca area of Manhattan. Best eggs benedict I've had in a long time and the profiteroles were especially delicious. Customer service was top notch. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful for this ol' first timer. The establishment is a classy, casual environment with beautiful decor and an eclectic feel. I could see why this restaurant has been around for so long. One of the bests.
If you are too lazy to read the Odeon's history from the
If you are too lazy to read the Odeon's history from the excellent Vanity Fair article ("Live From Tribeca", Frank Digiacomo, Sep 1 2008), I paraphrase: As seen in vintage SNL reruns or the cover of Jay McInerney's "Bright Lights, Big City" (whose editor assumed the Odeon was fictional), the 29-inch, Art Deco reddish-orange neon letters represent the death of Studio 54, with a cool warmth that contradicted the cocaine, casual sex, and cash-fueled 80s to follow. Filmmaker Amos Poe said if the Odeon was a Beatle, she's be the Quiet one. The Bakelite skyline from an old Woolworth's and curvaceous, mirrored 1930s Deco bar were the highlights of the dark, postmodern movie-set-cum-dining room, with food from nouvelle cuisine pioneer Michel Guérard, all set in what authors Tom Wolfe described as "SoHo's Cotton Club" or what McInerney described as a "no-man's-land...where subcultures thrive." "It is old. It is new", McInerney would say. It was self-conscious without being pretentious, and it was retro without being kitcshy, or in the words of Lorne Michaels, "It had sophistication and it had French fries." Warhol, Basquiat, De Niro, Cher, Aykroyd and Belushi, who had his first creme brulee here, might agree. In the words of James Signorelli, king of SNL commercial parodies, it quickly became "the end of café society and the beginning of Short-Attention-Span Theater". Rediscovered in the highly profitable 1990s, Amos Poe reports, "It started out white-hot and transitioned into a classic. It's as if Pamela Anderson became Greta Garbo." My experience at the dark attractive bar was excellent, eating an ice cream sundae, not realizing all ice creams are house made and all-natural. Be warned: the mint ice cream tastes like actual mint, like straight out of a garden. Based on the article "Live From Tribeca", I would say The Odeon used to be Bill Murray from the 70s and now it is "Bill Murray in his 70s"

Came here with a friend visiting from CA and decided she was my excuse to check this place out. When we arrived, it was packed, and we were originally told we'd need to wait. Within minutes, though, the host managed to squeeze us in. I'm glad they did. We each ordered: Phony Negroni and Ginger Kick - both delicious French Onion Soup - reason alone to visit Mixed Green Salad - I'd skip it Atlantic Cod - actually really good, would honestly get again French Fries - perfect Chocolate Pudding - not the best dessert I've ever had... but still dessert. Service was good but definitely rushed (probably partially our own doing by showing up without a reservation) and she certainly lost interest when we only ordered mocktails. All in all, I'd still come back to try a few new things and repeat a few others.

Food was okay, it's a classic restaurant and NY site and that is the primary appeal. The food tasted frozen and the drinks were fine. The managers seemed aggressive with the staff and angry

We rolled into The Odeon on a Wednesday night with no reservations, and this place was packed! The gracious staff advised us that they should be able to fit us in, in about 20 minutes. So we ordered a glass of wine from the bar and huddled up in the corner until we were called. We ordered the steak tartar, sun choke ravioli, and a side salad. Everything was perfect, including the art deco decor. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you're in the area.
The hostess was so rude - elitist for no reason.
We are regulars but because we were dressed casually today we were treated like we were second class. The waitress was great but the hostess was terrible.
I enjoyed a fantastic lunch at the Odeon on a weekday.
The food was superb, the service exceptional, and the ambiance very pleasant. The kitchen brought out my stake to the table which was a nice surprise and it made me feel special, adding a delightful touch to my experience.
Good but not great
Nice buzzy New York restaurant. Cocktails were great and starters were all good. Disappointed by the Mac and cheese which was pretty tasteless and a bit dry. Other entrees steak and mussels were very good. Profiteroles amazing. We were at the restaurant to celebrate a big birthday, sadly the restaurant did nothing to mark this in spite of us alerting them in advance. I guess they don’t feel they have to make the extra effort as the place was packed on a Monday night!

I've been here a few times for drinks / food the burgers are very good, the dirty martinis are my favorite! I love this place the inside decor brings me back to old New York which I love!! The service is great they are very attentive.
Here, it’s authentic and good!
An authentic restaurant. Not the kind of room made from scratch with fake new old things intended to make people believe in the historic character of the establishment... A room that has truly lived, in the positive sense of the term, with an intelligent arrangement of tables which combines conviviality and a little intimacy. And good, rather classic cuisine.
A Patron for 30 Years
I have loved this restaurant since I moved to New York in the 1980s lol! Always have the steak frites with the bernaise and au poirve sauces. Service quick and efficient, location PRIME tribeca, vibe is still hip after 3 decades! Roya at the door is the chicest and sweetest person one will ever encounter!
Oui!!
Ate here last night. Loved it. Great vibe, service was excellent. Menu options so good it is hard to choose. Moules, delish. Had a simple salad with paillard, also excellent. Onion soup total classic. Would absolutely eat here again. It was a rainy night and this was the perfect dinner.
Couple's dinner
Nice place, there were several birthday dinners. Overall average, waiters friendly and helpful. For a New York local the food isn't bad, we spent $100 for two with some wine.
Straight Up🍸🍸🍸🍸
Steak tartare was good but the martinis are what I will always remember here. Even went up to the bar after brunch to have another. Crown Royal Manhattans Straight Up ! That’s the way to do it here.
