Een fantastisch mooie zaak met een niet te formeel karakter
Een fantastisch mooie zaak met een niet te formeel karakter en uitzonderlijke keuken. Ik ben fan!
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely right up there as the best meal I've ever had
Definitely right up there as the best meal I've ever had and one of the last before I moved back to the US from the EU. If I could eat meals like that every single day I totally would. I went for the lunch menu and totally loved being able to watch all the food be made, made me very excited to eat it seeing all the care that went into each individual dish. Everything was exceptionally fresh. All of the staff was very friendly and very attentive, we never went without water or bread and had opportunities to ask questions, we were treated very well (we were wearing very casual street clothes as it was quite hot in Antwerp at the time) and exactly like everyone else (they were some pretty fancy people there :D). We thoroughly enjoyed speaking with the chefs who you could tell very much loved their work. I would totally visit again!
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced, overrated.
I have lot of experience with star restaurants. The Jane tried too hard to create food. They served us 11 dishes. Some dishes were not eatable, like ice-cream with beetroot, some were ok. Nothing that I can say wow, but every dish looked amazing. After 11 dishes I still had a half empty stomach, the food portions were way too small. The different drinks that came with the dishes were good.Staff at the bar were unfriendly. They did not know how to serve. The choice of drinks was a bit limited.I wouldn't go back there even with 50% off, sorry.
Be the first to ReplyI just moved to Antwerp from San Francisco, and was so
I just moved to Antwerp from San Francisco, and was so excited to try out the Jane. I had high expectations based on everything I'd heard and read, however sadly there were surprising missteps that made me walk away from the experience feeling very disappointed with no plans to return. THE PROS- It truly is a beautiful and detail oriented atmosphere. From the arrangement of the tables to the music to the lighting and even the bathroom soap (really great soap), it was truly a spectacular environment to spend hours in. There was so much to marvel at, and the people watching was top notch too. - The drinks were absolutely magical. Gorgeous, inventive and delicious balance of flavors. Also, the effect of pouring with dry ice for the specialty cocktails added to the magic of the experience. Plus, the drink menu (more like a book) was cheeky and fun. - The food was absolutely and total art. The plating and arrangement were gorgeous, no matter the dish or flavors. I was so impressed with the inventive use of color/texture/space on the plates. THE CONS- I did not feel that the Jane knew about or took my dairy allergy seriously. Even though I noted it in the reservation, I had to bring it up multiple times to servers because it wasn't clear to me that they were aware of it. When I did speak to them about it, they just kept pushing "but you can have a little bit, right?". Every Michelin star restaurant I've been to refers to allergies noted on the reservation up-front and puts the diner at ease for the rest of the meal, which did not happen here. - When the 4th course arrived and the bowls were put down on the table, my beautiful little stack in the dish had completely toppled over. I looked over at my boyfriend's beautiful dish and sighed :/ It's not a big deal really, but it was definitely anticlimactic. The server just said "oops" and walked away.- There was a lamb dish with the meat prepared 2 ways: the belly and the back. When the food arrived I looked at my boyfriend's dish and my dish, and something was off. Half of the meat in his dish was missing (the lamb belly). I had to call a server over and ask why his dish looked different, and then ended up bringing us a little bowl with lamb belly in it some time later. Again not a huge deal, but it adds up. - The biggest thing: One of the dishes was a large round cracker topped with what looked like big cheese chunks. I was so nervous about being served cheese that I called our server over to confirm that it was not cheese. He said "it's pear" and that it definitely was not cheese and it was safe to eat. I took a big bite and immediately felt a wash of panic through my body - it was 100% cheese. I didn't know what to do because I wasn't going to spit it out, so I had to eat it. I was really, really upset to have been served something that would make me sick later on. My allergy isn't life or death, but imagine if this happened to someone with a shellfish allergy for example? This is completely unacceptable, especially at a 2 Michelin star establishment. Later they apologized and clarified that the cheese was lactose-free, however 1) that's something they should clarify while they serve the dish so the person doesn't panic and 2) I don't eat *any* cheese, even lactose-free cheese, so this is still an issue and they should have checked with me first. I expected for these mistakes (and the fact that I was allergic to one of the dishes) that there would be some sort of gesture to compensate for the experience.... (ie: comp a drink, bring over a little something instead of the cheese cracker I couldn't eat) but that never happened. When I mentioned this to the staff at the front desk, they were empathetic but it didn't do much at that point. I had the sneaking suspicion that because of how I look (young, casual, etc) we weren't taken seriously at the Jane and also that our server was in training. I'm certain that if Sergio Herman knew about the experience we had, he would be more than disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyWooooooooooooow woooooooooow woooooooow! Should i stay it
Wooooooooooooow woooooooooow woooooooow! Should i stay it again? For me, it was close to perfection and I am really picky if I want. I could compliment the location and food but this has bend done 100 times and yes both are more than great. I will therefore focus on a few Woooow points from the service:- all waiters where all highly friendly, speaking great English without any challenge for them.- I love the intention when your main waiter take the time to Introduce himself, shake hands! Nice and little attention that make the difference- the explaination of the wine pairing were perfect. Choosing the right words to describe wine that is not boring , not complicate and at the end understandable for a human being is a challenge - perfectly handle there. A final note, they really buy my heart by having a special alcohol from my area of Switzerland :) well done!
Be the first to ReplyThe Upper room bar: everything about this place is a five
The Upper room bar: everything about this place is a five star experience; from the atmosphere to the bread that they start you off with (five star bread!) over the cocktail all the way down to a strangely unsweet dessert, it's all spectacular. Every individual plate of food is carefully crafted, cooked, seasoned and presented to perfection. Took us about 4 hours from the time we sat down until we walked out again, but if you're going to spend that much time at any restaurant, it might as well be at this world class place.
Be the first to ReplyDisclaimer: I do not like Sergio Herman but.
.. I give this place five stars without any doubts or reservations (actually you need reservations, and it is a heck of a process to get a table - but you get the picture, right?)If you read my other reviews, you know that I like to dwell and write long reviews but for The Jane I can be short and sweet:GEWELDIGMAGNIFIQUETHE BEST FOODIE EXPERIENCE EVER!!I've been to the Upper Room Bar and the actual restaurant when I was living in Belgium and this it the total experience: from the awesome atmosphere to the great service over the amazing soap (Aesop) they provide you in the bathroom. And yes, it was consistently at that level!Oh, I almost forgot, the food is TO DIE FOR, it is a real treat! A must visit for every food lover in the universe.
Be the first to ReplyPerfection! From the bread to the coffee at the end.
I didn't eat the wild dear steak so they made for me fish instead. The fish was boring but all the rest was perfect !
