The Gundis Kurdish Kitchen Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
I took my Kurdish husband and his friend who had both
I took my Kurdish husband and his friend who had both recently moved to America and were missing the food from back home. Immediately they felt right at home and immediately started chatting with our waiter about what part of Turkey they were from, etc. I thought the food was great and came out quickly. They were a little more critical, but I'm sure they were just missing their home cooking. I would definitely recommend. Price wise, we were about $120 for 3 people.

My friend and I came to The Gundis for lunch and they were thankfully still serving their Kurdish Breakfast. The breakfast came with these fried cheese rolls that look like spring rolls and they were soooo good, along with some fresh bread. There was a variety of spreads as well including butter, jam, olives, honey, and I think sesame butter. All of the jams were incredible! There were also fries and a variety of cheeses. We got the spicy tofu scramble which was really good, but the spread was my favorite part. Everything paired so well together. The waitstaff were all attentive and super friendly. Also, had around $55-$60 I believe for two people, you get a ton of food for the price!

Absolutely amazing meal - we got the appetizer sampler platter. You can sub out any of the samplers, which is amazing. We also split the stuffed chicken after hearing good things on here. The chicken was fantastic, but the bulgar was out of this world. The staff were very attentive. Would love to go again next time I'm in town

Food: 4, tasty but there are many other competitive options in the city Service: 4, responsive staff Ambiance: 4.5, cute space, dim lighting, semi-intimate
Service was prompt, helpful and efficient.
Appetizers were good but isot fries were underseasoned and a bit bland. Same goes for the Adana kebab. A nice experience but probably won't return, too many better options.

Visited The Gundis tonight for a quick dinner and I was so pleasantly surprised! I've heard their brunch is incredible, and their dinner was too. Started with the hummus + bread (yum!) and ordered the stuffed chicken for my entree. The chicken may be one of my favorite dishes in the city now. Stuffed with spinach and goat cheese and topped with a Kurdish cream sauce, what's not to love! Cozy atmosphere and quick, friendly service. Highly recommend!

My sister and I visited The Gundis to celebrate a special occasion. Our reservation was on a Saturday morning and the restaurant was very busy, but the ambiance was comfortable and service was attentive. We shared the Kurdish breakfast for two and it was exceptional. We loved the variety and the balance between freshness and richness. We left full and satisfied. I would highly recommend and we will definitely be back!

I didn't even know what Kurdish cuisine was but now I'm a huge fan! The lamb shank was one of the best lamb shanks I've had in the states. (The Best was in Greece.) The meat just fell right off the bone. I could've used a butter knife or just my fork! It was so flavorful and juicy, and the rosemary sauce was perfectly fragrant without being overpowering. The bed of mashed potatoes were nice and creamy, and a perfect match to the delicious lamb! My partner had the stuffed chicken with goat cheese and spinach which was also lovely. We rarely order chicken when we go out bc it tends to be dry but the chicken at Gundis was perfectly juicy and flavorful. The two starters we had were grilled halloumi cheese and the baba ganoush. Both were tasty but we were definitely blown away by our mains! Service was on point and the restaurant had a warm and welcoming vibe, like we were at a big family get-together. This is one of our new faves and we're sure to be back for more lamb!!

One of my favorite places I've ever dined at, it was perfect the food. It felt like a little too much food at times but god it was so good. Service was kind and the ambiance was perfect for that of a brunch restaurant.
Really cute spot with lots of natural light.
The kurdish breakfast for 2 was a good value and the soujouk scramble was so flavorful and delicious. The accompaniments were just okay but it was lots of fun to try everything. They did ask us to leave our table as soon as we were done paying which was a bummer, as I was there with friends that I hadn't seen in a while and had to cut our visit short.
Unique and yummy food, lots of vegetarian and vegan
Unique and yummy food, lots of vegetarian and vegan options, service was excellent even as we inadvertently held up the restaurant closing as we lost track of time. Terrific comfortable vibe. Wine and beer only. Easy, plentiful street parking. Looking forward to their addition of another unique restaurant in a few weeks!

When we went the first time, we thought " this place is ok" but I always like to go a couple times to see whats what. Took some family members from out of town there for dinner and we all loved what we had. I highly recommend the halloumi, and the spicy shrimp entree.

My mom went here and declared the Kurdish breakfast as "the best brunch of her entire life" so I was obligated to check it out. Despite the online reservation system being totally booked we walked in easily soon after opening on a Sunday Loved the Kurdish breakfast for two- everything was delicious. The cheese, the warm bread, jam, olives, soft scrambled eggs... overall very satisfying. We loved the tea and they did a great job refilling it. The staff was very nice. Can't wait to return- already planning to go for dinner.
Friendly faces, authentic food, and nice ambiance.
From the Kurdish coffee cups, to the bread severed with Brunch, this place is authentic. If you want to experience Kurdish hospitality, this is a must.

Kurdish Delight
We were staying in the neighborhood and noticed how lovely the holiday decorations were and that this neighborhood Kurdish restaurant looked busy but not full. The hostess was very welcoming and seated us immediately without a reservation. The wait staff was great at explaining what each dish was. I had the Zaza Pasta Chicken and Goat cheese which was fabulous. The chicken was tender, the pasta was al dente and the sauce had just the right amount of spice to it. My son had the Mezopotamia which he claims was also excellent. The cider, Original Sin, is now my favorite. We went for the ambiance but will return for the food and excellent service.
Best Meal in Chicago!
We ate dinner out in Chicago at 3 different highly rated $$-$$$ restaurants. This was by far our favorite meal. We had the grilled octopus appetizer (amazing sauce - soaked up every drop with the bread), the lentil soup (may sound boring but it was heavenly), and shared the stuffed chicken (most flavorful, creamy, interesting sauce I've ever had). Everything at the nearby tables also looked delicious. Ended the meal with a Kurdish coffee - not to be missed (just ordered some online when we got home). We will always come back to this restaurant when visiting Chicago! Can't wait to check out their breakfast and lunch menus.
Fresh and delicious food - don't miss the Kurdish coffee!
So much fresh and delicious food! We had an amazing brunch. The Kurdish breakfast is a delight with amazing breads, spreads, cheeses and vegetables. We also loved the tofu scrambler and apple cinnamon pancake. If you never have had Kurdish coffee - you have to try it. It is my new favorite coffee, anywhere: rich, flavorful, with a taste of ground pistachios. And the atmosphere is wonderful, too - you feel like family and everyone is happy.
Healthy and delicious
One of our favs, excellent flavors, attentive staff, healthy choices, very fresh…. For something different, we highly recommend!

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
