If it ain't broke, don't fix it
This used to be a wonderful gastro pub that was buzzy whatever night of the week you came. We have used it for several years as we stop off in Chester on our way to and from Dublin. We had dinner last week and we are aware that the pub has been taken over and for whatever reason, the offering has gone down. It's such a shame as the food seems to have gone downmarket and it's no longer a proper gastro pub. I had goats' cheese and red pepper arancini which tasted of nothing in particular other than a soft mush. The red pepper was non-existent apart from the odd flecks in the mix. I followed it with the Steak and Mushroom pie which while it had a generous filling, it unfortunately had pastry on the bottom which was soggy and indigestible. it would have been so much better had it been served in a little pie dish without a pastry bottom. it came with broccoli but its service was delayed as we saw out waitress going out to the local Sainsbury's to buy the broccoli! My wife's main course was apparently served with creamed potato and leeks (leeks were spelt as leaks!) and when she asked for chips instead of mash, she was not told that the leeks were integrated into the mash. Her dish came without any green vegetables so we shared my broccoli. The pub was quiet when we came in and when we booked, we were told they would not take a booking later than 7.00 pm. Somewhat irritating as we were coming up from London. We were therefore surprised that customers coming in after us and well after 7.00 pm were served dinner without fuss. Could do better

Have been here many times and always enjoyed the gastro pub food and great atmosphere . Menu has changed and is now mostly stodgy usual pub fare . Place was not buzzing either. Shame to have changed what was a winning formula. Staff still as helpful as ever but appeared to be less of them.

We booked a table for food at half 7 on Sunday 5th March only to arrive to be told that the kitchen was closed. My wife booked the table on the 2nd March with a man who was foreign, when we were asked who we spoke to the woman said oh yeah he wouldn't know the kitchen was closed. There was no apology. After years of eating and drinking in the Faulkner and also family members working there i am sad to say we will not return. Also the smell as you walk in was like walking into the toilets. We did have a drink before leaving to find somewhere else to eat , made in Italy ๐ฎ๐น made our night . Different class
Be the first to ReplyFood not exceptional rather typical pub type.
Eat here on a Saturday night. Very few people eating in the place which sums it up. Food arrived quickly, presented and served nicely. Small plates excellent but mains lacked the taste of something special. Deserts limited . Overall only good.

I have been a regular at this amazing hoole pub for the last 10 Yearโs. It is with a heavy heart I say!! This pub is slowly deteriorating under the wildes inn group!! They are running this busy pub on Two staff!! One chef then pedro or sam working different nights running the bar, taking orders serving, sorting the bills!! The two front of house men are amazing but how long will they be able to carry on being run ragged?? Where has all the lovely young staff gone when Darren and kelly owned it?? I have continued to support this pub every Wednesday since the takeover, the food and services is still amazing however the waiting times are totally unacceptable. Morale and atmosphere are slowly deteriorating. I know and have spoken to a lot of regulars, they may not wright a review but rest assured they share the same view! Please wildes inns, donโt destroy our local hoole establishment to prop up you hotel businesses!!!

Called in here by chance after a bad experience in another venue! Absolutely fantastic from the warm welcome and amazing food. Excellent service and will definitely be returning.
Be the first to ReplyAlways a good place
Was worried when it changed ownership. But still great. Always a good welcome great drinks. Always great interaction with my son when he comes in as well. Keep up the good work. Only down fall is the many cameras that have been installed make it look like your being watched. They donโt look great
Be the first to ReplyWait times, service not great
Advised on arrival that wait times for food would be 30 minutes due to staff shortage. This was fine however we was sat on our table for 15 minutes before anyone took a drinks order. Waited a further 15/20 minutes for the drinks to arrive and then a further 30 minutes to take our food order. Food was ok, not great and certainly not what it use to be. Service was slow. Place looks run down and tired. There was no urgency on the floor at all. Customer service could be improved and until it is we will not be returning. Much prefer to spend our money in the other restaurants of Hoole.
Be the first to ReplyVery rude staff
I called up yesterday asking if they are dog friendly and she said no in a very snotty tone. Then she said we dont allow them any more and go somewhere else then hung up. Very sad to say that I wont be coming here ever again

First thought really nice place โฆ food really good service not that good but when there try and charge me two bottles off wine extra at ยฃ38 per bottle thatโs when you start asking questions only when I push and argue about how weโve never drink 5 bottles of wine there decide to give a refund. So be careful there are probably use to a pint and half people then go . Management spoiled a very good afternoon!!

Ad - hoc Sunday Lunch. Service was a little slip shop in that drinks were sorted but left on the bar and ended up getting our own. I The food was adequate for the price. I am happy with warm food if I liked it hot I would have complained. The young manager is really nice chap and is happy for feed back.
