Nice location/ambiance but overpriced, limited menu, scattered service
I really wanted to like this place as it's a nice spot and ambiance, but after eating dinner here twice, I won't go back. The food is way overpriced for what you get, the menu is limited with mostly heavy dishes, and the service is scattered, e.g., food comes before drinks
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced poor service and average food.
The service was below average. We ordered drinks and then waited 15 minutes before the server returned to get our food orders. The server took our appetizer and main course order in order to “time each course effectively “. We received our appetizers in a timely manner. We then waited 40 minutes for the main course. The food was as marginal at best. We ordered fish - which was bland and Luke warm. We will not return to this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyThe Best Restaurant and Dining Experience in Marin.
A fantastic dinner at what is likely the best restaurant in Marin. The rest is a little long and maybe hyperbolic. But earned. GM Brian greeted us at the door. (He’s a Mina Veteran, and it shows.) He was engaging and welcoming, and showed us to a wonderful table right on the edge of the downstairs deck. Beautiful view of Raccoon Straits, Angel Island, and the sun setting on downtown SF. Menus were classic rock album themed. I got The Rolling Stones “Let it Bleed.” Wife got Neil Young’s eponymous. Cocktail menu was Bob Marley “Uprising. Brian explained the conceit. I’m a HUGE classic rock-head, so I loved it. (Music in the space was all classic rock, and some good, deep stuff.) Our server was Peter. Warm, friendly, and knowledgeable without at all being over-bearing. We opted for the tasting menu with wine pairings. We were then introduced to Eric, the Sommelier. VERY knowledgeable, witty, and totally professional. The food was OUTSTANDING. 4 courses including dessert. 1st course was Mina’s famous Ahi Tartar and a Hamachi Crudo. Perfect, fresh, clean, with just a touch of spice/heat. Also Parker House roles with a whipped ricotta and local honey butter. AND then confit/flash fired Duck winglettes! The wine was a wonderful, 2010 Gran Cru Champage. 2nd course was a Black Truffle Cacio e Pepe Cavatelli pasta. So rich and warm and buttery. A perfect amount of Truffle, so the other flavors came through. The wine was Italian Valtellina Superiore. Deep dark, a little dry and the perfect counterpoint to the richness of the pasta. (A pasta with which I could eat myself into oblivion!) 3rd course was; for the wife the Phyllo-Crusted Petrale Sole, with horseradish potato purée, green beans, and a Meyer-Lemon caviar Sauce. For me it was the Oak-Grilled American Wagyu New York strip steak. A gorgeous piece of meat. I ordered it medium, but it came out looking a lot medium (very) rare. I was concerned I would be sending it back. But it ate with the perfect texture of medium with all the flavor one expects from a medium-rare/medium Wagyu. (Sous-Vide prior to the grill?). The wines on this course were quite interesting. Wife had a Vintage French white blend of Voigner, Chardonnay, and Chenin Blanc. Mine was a Red Blend from Lebanon, but vinted in the Bordeaux tradition. Both spectacular and thoughtfully paired. Eric described them perfectly and explained why they had been specifically chosen. Final course was dessert. An incredible chocolate mousse with toasted coconut, caramel, and fresh whipped cream. A perfect portion; rich, creamy, and mostly chocolate with the coconut being a perfect counterpoint and not at all overpowering. The wine was a 20 year vintage Ruby Port, aged to the point of Tawny highlights. At the end of the meal, my wife and I were totally, beautifully satisfied. The food was exceptional; refined and creative but not at all presumptuous. The wines were perfectly paired, and were a legitimately integral part of each course’s success. And the service. They say really good, well-timed service can make up for other faux pas and missteps. HAD there been ANY, the service would have more than made up for them. But there weren’t any. So the service was actually THAT GOOD. Thank you again Brian, Peter, and Eric (and the rest of the staff) for an exceptional experience.

Be the first to ReplyBeautiful waterfront brunch
We had the best brunch on the water at Bungalow kitchen. We had a beautiful table right on the water, Gabriel was our server and was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed several appetizers on the pre fixe menu. All we're delicious and had beautiful presentation. The highlight was the famous lobster pot pie done table side. Overall one of the best meals I've ever had. For dessert we had the crepe cake and french toast. So yummy. This was one of my best meals yet and I can't wait to return.

View and food was excellent but definitely overpriced. Staff was great, fun cocktail, etc. the upstairs was a bit boring even though they are trying for a Bungalow Santa Monica vibe.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful New Place in Tiburon
This beautifully decorated restaurant overlooks Golden Gate Bay. A newcomer to Tiburo, owner Michael Mina should train his staff to be less pretentious. The place is so nice, with a cozy well-stocked bar, and very nice food choices, so it does not need barmen and waiters with an attitude. I went probably to the best Restaurants in the world but this is an unneeded turn off.

Excellent food and service. Great views. I recommend sitting on the patio the experience is different compared to the bar area seats. The food and experience changes actually.

Bungalow is a hit or miss for us. We’ve had more success with Brunch. We’ve been here for dinner but found it too pretentious for our taste. Was here this past weekend for brunch. There were a couple things I was excited about is that they now have a kids menu and they had pastries ala carte. My six year old killed her food of a light chocolate croissant ( yes it’s possible for such a decadent pastry) and her bacon and eggs which they did not skimp on. She had a hearty thick center cut slice of bacon that her Dad couldn’t resist taking a few bites off. So why the 4 stars vs 5? It wasn’t the service, that was on point! We had a transition to a new a waiter in between our meal and that was handled very smoothly. What didn’t go over well is that our order kept coming out wrong. This was a kitchen problem. It’s like they ignored the notes. They brought the wrong appetizer for me. They quickly fixed it but my husband won’t eat unless I have food so he had to enjoy his appetizer cold. We had already order our entrees but they had an oyster cart talk us into a half dozen oysters which was delicious. But they had told us that our entree dishes had not been started and they would hold them until we were ready. However when we received our entrees of steak and salmon. Both were lukewarm and not cooked well. My husband had the steak and eggs and asked for plain fries. His order came out wrong. He got truffle fries and Parmesan which he’s allergic to and his steak was tasteless and undercooked. My salmon was cold and over cooked. It was quickly corrected by the waiter and the manager. My salmon was hot the second time but still over cooked. The same for my husband but although cooked perfectly medium rare. It still had very little flavor. The ambiance was wonderful and the service fantastic. Much of our meal was comped and we received a complimentary wine pour. We greatly appreciated that but I hope the chef is reading these reviews b/c this could be an amazing restaurant that’s much needed in Marin county. We will give it another try and I’m really hoping this is a phase.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service and some good food choices
This was our first time at The Bungalow Kitchen. We have a part-time home here in Tiburon and wanted to try a new dinner experience. The staff was very warm, and our server Lindsay was hands down the best server we've had in a very long time. We first shared the Ahi Tartare which was incredible so we were looking forward to our entrees. I had the King Salmon and my husband had the Sea Bass. My salmon was a bit overcooked and bland; the sea bass was much better although it still lacked some flavor. We also shared the garlic noodles which was a hit. We will plan to return at a later date, but we were somewhat disappointed in a Michael Mina establishment.

We were so sad when Guaymas closed but were excited to learn that Michael Mina had taken over the space. So we were looking forward to our meal there when the restaurant opened as The Bungalow Kitchen. The spot has the best location and views in Tiburon. The new decor is very fabulous and befitting of the location, the menu was nice, food average, service good. Definitely the spot for a bite when in Tiburon.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous food, spectacular setting, sterling service await at Bungalow Kitchen
Having had a less than expected, far less than excellent experience at Michael Minna's latest San Francisco Bay Area culinary venture when Bungalow Kitchen first opened in Tiburon, we waited a while to return. What a difference a few months make! Palate pleasers galore for our discriminating and distinct tastes, service sensitive to the wide array of our needs, from husband's impatience at waiting to mom's insistence on perfection, amiable atmosphere conducive to thorough enjoyment made this latest visit an enchanting evening filled with memorable moments. From savory sashimi to sizzling steaks to succulent strawberries, every bite exploded in mouth-watering deliciousness. Topping off the magnificent menu and its exemplary execution, our waiter Carlos wowed us with his attentive service, personable professionalism and rapid response to every request. Can't wait to make the next reservation!
Be the first to ReplyTo set expectations, yes this is a very expensive restaurant. But it's worth it to us!
Casey K was AWESOME, and the food has been tasty and fun every visit. We live up the hill, so it's an easy date night walk to enjoy the place, and don't worry about reservations... if you're kind, patient, and smart, you'll get a bar seat or table if you get there around 4.30-5p most nights. First come first serve, especially weekdays, means that you can usually get a table if timed well. The bar area is filled with various genres that typically swirl around classic rock, and it can be lively (loud to some), especially with SF ferry people there for all day drinking events.... that afternoon can be some pretty fun inebriated people watching, but it's never too raucous, and slows down into the evening. I think the bar, and bar tables, are some of the most romantic date night spots in Marin. To set expectations, yes this is a very expensive restaurant. But it's worth it to us! Everything is expensive as we step through a portal into this new world of supply chain, staffing crisis and wage increases, inflation, and other vexing woes. If you have a problem with any staffing, go ahead and apply for a job. They're hiring, and frankly, have some patience for the people that *do* show up to work and service a crowd that is often full of entitled and impatient types. But we're not like that, and we've worked in the industry, so it was to our surprise and delight we had Casey K as our server on Saturday afternoon. We hit it off, especially because we're all seafood people, and gluttonously ordered a bunch of the seafood, along with their incredible crudite appetizer. Oysters, Lobster, Crab Claws, and shrimp galore, I think it's not only one of the best seafood towers in Marin, but maybe one of the only ones? It's a rare treat that went along with the Carbonista. We shared the burger as an entree, which rounded off the meal perfectly, and enjoyed a couple glasses of red wine. But Casey was a pro, and she did that phenomenal thing when a server is empathetically dialed in, and tuned in because they know what they are doing and care, vs nervously being on script to make sure they don't get yelled out by someone. She would eye the plated dishes to make sure they were right, she would note where we were with our ordering timing, firing our dishes appropriately, noticing when something was missing, needed, or no longer needed at the table. It's really cool to see someone in that "flow state" and nailing it, casually because it's second nature. We'll be back. Even though we're not too sensitive to spending money on a great meal, it does come closer to a special occasion spot than a weekly event. But we find it so tasty, it might become a treat a little more often for us. Thanks to all at the restaurant. Cheers. BTW: I don't really write reviews anymore, and rarely anything this detailed. I love this new addition to our neighborhood, so here's to supporting community!
Be the first to ReplyDiner food, horrible service, weird vibe and a great location
Decided to dine here with a friend on Saturday night — big mistake. We were asked to wait for 30min even though we had a reservation, the front desk seems to be used to this as they didn’t even apologize or seemed bothered at all. Food is so bad that I was embarrassed for having suggested this place. Burnt and extremely salty burger, the pot pie was so heavy that nobody finished it, the server forgot the drinks…twice. The music was so loud that I could barely hear my friend across me, yet 30% of the tables were empty. Total bill, 350 for two people. Yay Michael Mina.
Be the first to ReplySO SO with Great Ambiance & Views
A great setting reminiscent of a lush Tommy Bahama location. Upstairs is the quieter dining area w/fabulous views and fun billiards room. The downstairs bar area's noise spills into surrounding dining areas and we were told the music is bumped up on purpose. Covid's not doing anyone any favors and staffing is suffering everywhere and here too! The new staff still has a learning curve (forgot husband's drink twice) and seemed to be covering a lot of tables at one time, expect a delay. Starter: Parker House rolls w/ ricotta /honey are fabulous! Salads: Caesar Salad is definitely NOT the classic: white green lettuce, little or no dressing and tasteless shaved parmesan cheese. Marinated Beet Salad is really good. Entre's: Petrale Sole in Phyllo (generous & tender) on a bed of "lightly" flavored horseradish mashed Potatoes & crisp Haricot Verts is wonderful; easily shared or take leftover home...Was great the next day. Unfortunately, Orecchiette Bolognese was ordinary. Side: Charred Broccolini has a definitely smokey flavor.

Food was still excellent on our 2nd visit here. The server did forget our order sn hour later but did give us free drinks and appetizers to make up for the wait. Friendly but brunch took 2 hours. Def will return. The world is short staffed.
Be the first to ReplyCheesy atmosphere, crappy service, bland overpriced food
Second time here and a complete disappointment. I thought the first time was because they were still figuring their groove out. Nope. It just isn’t good food!! And it is grossly overpriced. This is coming from someone who lives in San Francisco and is used to expensive dinners. The places I like to spend money at are WORTH the spend. Don’t get it twisted- this is NOT Michael Minna in SF. This is totally different and it is really bland food for an obscene amount of money. It also must be mentioned that the atmosphere is not all that. It feels cheesy and like a badly run chain restaurant. The hostesses are also unfriendly and spacey - like hello, are you going to stand there or actually greet us when we are standing right in front of you? And maybe tell us when our table is ready?? Dinner service was good but slow. The sommelier didn’t tell us jack about the wine. Why did he even come over to our table then? Just weird. Upstairs is a nicer atmosphere, but the service sucks so epically bad that you wait forever for someone to even bring you a drink. And the bartender is a complete jerk. Who are these people they hire? I know this is a labor shortage, but my lord. The manager is a short nervous man that walks around with a scowl on his face. They have a DJ that is trying to get a party started with bad blaring tunes that are reminiscent of a high school dance. The vibe I got was it was trying SO very hard to be cool but it fails on that level SO very bad. Bad juju all around. Oh the view is nice. But OK- you literally get that view anywhere in Tiburon. We will not be returning.
Be the first to ReplyHorrible experience
The setting is beautiful. The food was not good. The first course was not adequate at all. The main course came cold after waiting for a very long time. The service was horrible. This was our second visit. The first one was okay not great but decided to give them another chance. They failed. I will never return. As I was leaving I heard a gentleman at the front desk this was his worst dining experience in 31 Years. On top of everything it was very expensive.

First time here and had a mixed overall reaction. The Good - Beautiful location on the bay with great views of the SF skyline and Angel Island. The shrimp toast and tuna tartare were outstanding. The service was professional, freindly and attentive. The OK - Lobster Pot Pie. Great flavors and tableside presentation. At $130 a bit over priced. Garlic noodles were springy and delicious. Meyer lemon crape dessert was also vey good and not overly sweet. The not so Good - The pork chop was over brined, over salted and over cooked. At $4 hunge with T&T for 2 ppl with a moderatly prices bottle of wine it should have delivered a vey memorable experience and sadly it did not. i may try the weekend brunch going forward.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing but will try again
Despite making dinner reservations 6 weeks in advance, we were placed at a cocktail table in the corner next to the kitchen. Insanely busy servers constantly walking to and fro right next to us. I can see leaving that spot for walk-ins and calling it "bar seating", but not for a dinner reservation. Ruined our night, to be quite honest. We couldn't really enjoy the food and have an intimate conversation. It also took a good 15 minutes before we could even enjoy our first glass of wine, pre-dinner. Took 5 minutes before we were even acknowledged. Overall a huge disappointment for a dinner we were looking forward to for weeks. The food was delicious, however. Sad we couldn't truly enjoy it.
