Fun and memorable dinner
Where do I start?! My husband got me hooked on Top Chef and once we knew we were going to Vegas we both wanted to check out The Black Sheep and we are glad we did! It was about a 20 minute Lyft ride from our hotel on the strip but we had no problems getting a lyft there or back. Joel was our server and we absolutely loved him! We were lucky enough to get there early and the crispy salmon skin tacos were available and oh my, you have to try these! The beef tartare was absolutely amazing as was the octopus. For entrees I got the pork jowl and my husband got the short ribs. We both enjoyed our entrees immensely. Joel did a great job of spacing out our food and drinks and we had a wonderful time. We both can't wait to go back back next time we visit Vegas!

Slightly off their game, but still a place you should experience. This was the second birthday (57 & 58) my lovely wife chose to treat me to dinner at "Jamie's Place". Once again the food did not disappoint as we relish (no pun meant) genuinely unique takes on traditional dishes... in this case a twist on viet- american fusion. We tried 5 appetizers, all for that reason.. along with a bottle of prosecco (a region we used to live near). We had the salmon skin "tacos", imperial rolls, beef crisps, the scallion "psncskes," and a few others. The crisps were our fav. For the mains I had the duck breast, my bride had the short ribs and son had the jowl. All with great taste and savory making gravies with vegetables. We best enjoyed the short ribs, but son loved his cheeks. ;) .... it seemed I had tiny layers of oblong layers of the duck. Like nothing I've had before but did not seem to be a beast to me or my wife. The chocolate sponge dessert was delightful and shared between us. Now for the service, it seems they are understaffed like many places are now. They were working their tails off to do their best, I just didn't want rushed on this special day at this special place. ... I just think given it all it was more expensive than it seems it should. .No military discount this time ... I can see us giving the "Sheep" another go, but next time I hope Jamie has time to socialize, as she often does. The waitress was also too busy to be engaged but did her best with the time she had. I'd have liked to have learned more about the intricacies of the dishes, but I respect her for putting quality of what is produced from the kitchen first. The photos and menu in my pics should pique your curiosity.

This was our third visit since its 2017 opening and it did not disappoint. My wife and I shared a delicious though overpriced poached pear salad that included whipped goat cheese, crispy prosciutto, and candied walnuts enhanced by a basil seed vinaigrette dressing. We the Asian inspired cioppino that included cultivated black mussels, shrimp, surimi, bok choy and Vietnamese fried bread in a delicious tomato based broth. We will be back on our next trip you may be assured.

Came with family, ended up eating g bunch of appetizers for dinner. Favorites? Poached pear salad and bao sliders. Most interesting? Salmon skin tacos, because they fry the salmon shin into a taco shell. Only complaint, it's kinda far from the strip. Service excellent.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food! Fun place, great chef!
It was a fantastic evening at black sheep restaurant. The food was outstanding, a great mix of Asian fusion. From the boa sliders, to the pear salad, to the duck confit and the braised short ribs. Everything was fantastic. Then to finish off the night chef Jamie came to our table and let us take a picture. Made our whole night! Would definitely go again!

I go to Vegas a couple of times a year and always try to find really interesting restaurants. After watching Top Chef this year I knew I had to try Jaime's restaurant (who should have won btw). We started with the steak tartare and Imperial rolls. The tartare presentation was beautiful and tasted great. That was my wife's favorite, but I preferred the Imperial rolls. Really great flavor. My fried ordered the whole rainbow trout and I had the slow braised short rib. We both finished our plates. The short rib dish was one of the best things I've ever had in an entree. I highly recommend king out and trying her restaurant. If you love unique and bold flavors you won't be disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyJamie should have won Top Chef if this is the food she served!
This was a great meal! We would have loved to order one of everything. The beef crisps are scrumptious and beautiful. I wanted to lick the plate of the hamachi crudo. For our main course, I ordered the scallops and my husband ordered the duck. We ordered both of the desserts, but the horchata creme brulee was the absolute best! Service was great and we left very happy!

We came here after watching Top Chef Portland. We are from Portland and visiting Las Vegas.
Cocktails were interesting, had the blackberry coco coco something……yummy. Also the mule.
The pear goat cheese salad was a bit too heavy on the spice level on the pear itself. The rest was lovely .
Grilled octopus appetizer had amazing flavors. Kind of spicy, but the rice cake complimented and tempered the sambal spice.
Our scallop entree was beyond decedent. Basil spaetzl and buerre blanc sauce was so light but rich in flavor.
We had the creme brûlée dessert which was interesting with toasted rice.
Great meal and we would go back the next time we were in Vegas!
Three times the charm,......!
God,....bad, terrible,.....! That is the experience for me. In particular I take it to this level of venting my frustration. First, for weeks I am trying to get a seat at the "hottest ticket" in Las Vegas because of the hype Jamie Tran got on her appearance on Top Chef. I finally got the golden ticket! 5:15PM on a Sunday was the only option. Done,....! Yet during the entire dinner from 5:15PM to 7:30PM the restaurant was half empty! No full restaurant at 6PM, not at 6:30 or even at 7:00PM. So what is the problem? Service started with mediocre drinks, appetizers that are the size of an amuse bouche (hamachi). A bottle from the very small wine list fell on a Beaujolais for $75 because, the selection is very limited. Accompanied by Short Rib (tender and OK for what it is), the portions left to desire. One additional main, a Ribeye medium rare, appeared medium and chewy. That was accompanied by a Bottle of Italian red for $75, which actually was acceptable. Dessert,......a Creme Brûlée also in microscopic size and a Tres Leches Cake that went back because of a sharp fishy taste. It was taken off the bill and we are presented the bill,.....in a still half empty Restaurant. Long story short,.......NO! NEVER EVER AGAIN! Top Chef or not, that was lousy!

We enjoyed some of our dishes because they offered a little different take. Try the crispy beef chips

As a local, I love this restaurant. Being located on warm springs is nice because you avoid a lot of the traffic had you eaten on the strip! I took a customer here and a couple of colleagues. It’s a great work night dinner spot. This place has a lowkey, dimly lit, casual vibe...but it’s also total #DateNight vibes. The service here is nice because the staff really knows their menu items. The cocktails are very unique and super delicious! Their food is a mix of art and perfect culinary execution. I highly recommend this place for food lovers nor afraid to push their palette to the the next level while not going off in the deep end!

Returning to a restaurant previously deemed worthy of a 5 star rating is often a recipe for disappointment, but not in this case. Though the menu has largely undergone a complete overhaul since our May, 2019 visit, we were up to the challenge. My wife chose pan seared striped bass over cavatelli pasta, rapini, dan dan sauce and sauteed hen of the woods mushrooms. I countered with lomongrass duck confit with yellow curry couscous, Chinese broccoli, lap ceung sausage and charred plum sauce. Each dish was beautifully plated, exceptionally creative and delicious. With there be a round 3? Stay tuned to this channel for exciting updates.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent , interesting food.
Our one venture off strip was worth the effort. Pan Asian influenced menu by a Chef with solid European credentials. Dishes were clever with great flavour impact in virtue of great spicing and a nicely judged use of heat.
Ingredients first rate and and everything presented well. Confit duck on Israeli couscous the stand out with perfect duck and brilliant spicing. Enjoyed everything we had and appreciated the value for money here after Strip prices. Small, useful and fairly priced wine list.... the Alsatian Gewurztraminer a welcome surprise.
Professional, friendly and helpful service in a restaurant filled with both locals and Strip blow-ins. As my rating indicates you don't have to eat high end to have great food.
It's out of town but don't let that deter you.
