A cool little dive by the water
We picked The Barking Crab because of its location on the water for our Friday evening dinner. My daughter & I enjoyed the crab dip. The clam chowder was quite tasty. We split the Clambake & it was perfect for the two of us. Definitely a good bar scene for after work & those visiting. Would love to enjoy their deck during a summer evening!

I went to the Seaport to meet a friend who was in town for a conference. We were exploring the Seaport, and came upon The Barking Crab. I had read many great reviews, but wasn't sure how much indoor seating they provided. We were pleased to find a seat right away (It wasn't that busy), and our waiter came right over. We both had clam chowder and fried clams. The food was delivered right away, and was delicious! It was a perfect place to stop on a mild winter day at the Seaport.

We waited for about 20 min outside. Not a long wait for this restaurant. The hot crab dip was very very good. The seared sampler (scallops, lobster and shrimp with asparagus and mashed potatoes) was nice, tho slightly overcooked. Reasonably priced ($50) for the size. A bit noisy, but it’s a joint, so to be expected. Would go back with good weather to sit outside. Good service. Worth the visit if you are in the bright.

Easy to get to, the food was amazing, and the staff was charming! Will go back for sure the next time I'm in Boston!!

Arrived at 7:57. We were sat and ask what we wanted to drink. Looking over menu we were told by our server the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes. We ordered and at 8:28 we were told it was last call for food and alcohol. We were then given our check. Seafood was subpar. Service was nice but experience was rushed.

This place was recommended as a local favorite, but really turned out to be more of a tourist trap! Nice view, but that was about it! We went for lunch, and it was the most pathetic 'lobster roll' that I've ever had! Subpar quality and very little lobster (maybe 2 oz) plopped down on top of a stale kaiser roll (the roll wasn't even opened up). 2 cups of clam chowder, 2 'lobster rolls', a cheeseburger, 2 orders of fries, 1 beer, and 1 coke... $165 (not counting tip)! Absolutely criminal! You'll be much better off going across the bridge to Hooks!
Be the first to ReplyVery Disappointing… Food Prices UP, Quality/Quantity DOWN
This used to be our "go-to" location for fresh Lobster Rolls and Fried Clams with Bellies while in Boston however… no more. We stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner on a Saturday around 3:30 pm and got one of the last tables available. Service was prompt and food delivery quick despite the crowd, however wait service was almost non-existent after that. Ordered a Lobster Roll Platter (Market Price = $37) which included French Fries. Although it looked like it was loaded with lobster, turns out the portion was mostly sitting on top of the sliced roll… not IN it. Lobster quality also was lacking the claw and tail meat of the past and was heavily supplemented with small shredded pieces. Also ordered the Fried Clams Appetizer (Market Price = $23). What used to be a large portion of fresh clams with large bellies now consisted of a small bowl of mostly heavily breaded clam strips. The restaurant is still packed (with a typical line waiting outside when we left) however after the disappointing quality, quantity, and price increases experienced during this visit, we won't be back. Two days later we had the same meal at the Boston Sail Loft which was less expensive, along with much better quality and quantity of food. The Barking Crab needs to up its game and not rely solely on its past reputation. Price increases are expected however the competition now has it beat for better food.

What a ripoff. Paid $37 for a lobster roll. Very little lobster on a stale bun. French fries and pickle were good though. We definitely won’t be back. Go elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyGreat seafood and fun vibe
Great fish and chips and lobster roll. Loved the interior decor. Portion sizes were perfect and prices were very reasonable
Be the first to ReplyTerrible. Not worth it.
Sadly this place has become a tourist trap, ridiculously expensive with terrible service. Ordered a two lb lobster which was a complete disappointment. $67++ waiter didn’t bother to even bring me the tools to eat it. I had to get up to find myself and at the end he had the audacity to select a 20% tip. Never again Barking crab is done. Don’t bother

My husband & I vacationed in Boston last week. We asked a local their recommendation for the best Lobster Roll in Boston and he told us Barking Crab. He was correct! It was so good, we went back and ate another before we left. It was incredible, highly recommend if in Boston.

Omg! So glad we decided to “wait” around. It gave me time to read all of the Have a “rules” they have posted throughout dining area. The main dining room was hosting a private event so the only available seating was located outside, beneath a tent. But, baaaybeee! It was worth it! Being from Texas. Galveston to be exact. I know Fresh seafood. This place right heeh! I’ll fly my family back just so they can experience this stuffed lobster. SMH!!! I took videos of everything! Funny how all I’m posting is this lobster. (Didn’t see an option for videos. But if you’re elva in Boston, get to the Barking Crab. Even if you gotta crawl. Lol

I had wanted to visit Boston and eat a Lobster at a shack, with instructions fixed to the picnic style tables. well there aren't many of these places left, so we opted for The Barking Crab. We had a very long wait in line, but I was there on a mission! it was a very sunny warm day, so we didn't mind too much. The food was good. I went for a whole Lobster (even though i wasn't sure what i was doing) I had a good idea, however the waitress said she couldn't advise me as she didn't eat Lobster lol. I think we paid $50, it was a very rustic characterful place (the toilets were an experience), we were seated by the water, and enjoyed our meal etc, however, when we got to New England area on our trip, we realized it had been quite expensive. (we got 2 lobster rolls which were delicious with loads of fries in Portland for about $16 each). Having said that, the experience was great, the staff attentive, and Lobster in Boston was the experience that I wanted :)

I love the Barking Crab! I’ve been multiple times over the past few years, and I never leave disappointed. There is a great atmosphere and vibe, and the staff is friendly. I went with my parents while I was home over Christmas, and it was decorated so nicely for the holiday. We sat at one of the tables that had an unbeatable view of the city. The food came out quickly, and it was fresh and delicious! I would recommend taking public transportation or parking somewhere and walking, because there is no parking at the restaurant.

We got lucky and walked by just as a line was forming awaiting them opening for lunch. We had walked by the day before midday and there was a line to get in so we figured let’s hop in line. We were third in line and within 5 minutes the line was way down the sidewalk. Once they opened, a little past their posted time, we were seated quickly and within minutes the restaurant packed. We are New Englanders, and if you asked me to describe a Boston Pub which serves seafood on the water, this is exactly what I would describe! The inside was festive and New Englandly. The food was good. I got a Cob Salad with Lobster and my husband got the crab salad roll with fries. Both were very good, but, I’ve had better out on Cape Cod. But, with that said, the experience was wonderful, the staff attentive, and I’d never say no to seafood, by the water in December. We got lucky and visited when record temps were being recorded and it was 61 degrees!

Well…. Everyone said try the lobster roll… I reckon it was a good place at some point in its history. Has a very definite feel of Gordon Ramsey’s kitchen nightmares! The lobster bisk and clam chowder was possibly the worst thing I’ve ever had and paid for. Very over priced for very poor tasting food. The fries were ok though. Hate to say it…. Rubbish… sorry
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced 😳
While the location is really good, The place is way overpriced. Never paid that much money for a lobster roll and a beer ( 55$). do not recommend the place. + : The service was good.
Be the first to ReplyThis is casual fun spot to grab great seafood.
We went early on a weekday and service was awesome. Food was very tasty; good options. Cocktails fun too. Enjoyed the evening. If I had to complain it would only be about plastic utensils. Great experience.
