My husband and I recently spent the last evening of our trip to Vienna at the Bank Bar within the Park Hyatt Hotel. It was glamorously and stylishly decorated, with peppy 1930's music playing in the background. I had a lovely glass of Blaufrankisch red wine and my husband had a beautiful cocktail called "Blood and Sand" (see pics) which he really enjoyed. Next he had a Manhattan which was delicious! The bartenders were friendly and very knowledgeable about their many concoctions.Highly recommend!

We are a small group who live in Vienna and endeavor to sample the best of Vienna restaurants throughout the year. We enjoyed a lovely Christmas holiday celebration in The Bank 2 years ago and decided to repeat the experience this December. Unfortunately, we found much had changed. The service was sketchy - we had to wait almost 15 minutes before menus were provided after we were seated. Throughout the evening it was often difficult to attract the service personnel and in the end, an almost 20 minute wait for the bill made it apparent that a competent floor manager was much needed. The food ranged from outstanding (lamb shoulder) to mediocre (lobster bisque and sea bass) with some real high notes that included the chocolate Lebkuechen dessert. The cheese plate, however, arrived unadorned and it took some time before were able to get some bread or crackers to accompany it. What made the evening a disaster, however, was the unexpected and extremely loud disco music that started around 9:00. The entire room was filled with so much noise that we had to almost shout across the table to be heard. It was impossible to hold a conversation and certainly not in keeping with the type of fine dining experience one would expect in this venue. We complained to the staff who said they spoke to the manager and would try to get it turned down. The music continued and we asked to see the manager, but he or she did not come. Not being able to continue to put up with the loud noise, we paid and left. On the way out, we complained to the hotel desk and they apologized and took our contact details saying the manager would contact its. To date we have heard nothing. That, in itself, speaks volumes. So, if you are looking for a venue for that special occasion or intimate dining experience, don't bank on the Park Hyatt Vienna (pun intended). Vienna has too many other fine restaurants to choose from.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is in a beautiful setting.
It is in an old bank, and has high ceilings and beautiful decorations. The service is ZERO. It was virtually no service, but that was not the issue. I can live with poor service, and would not be angry just because of slow service. The fish (cod) was not fresh and was horribly prepared. It was slippery, and almost gamey yet grossly bland. The green sauce was pure salt. This was prison food. This second course came almost 50 minutes after the first course. No one apologized. No one cared until I complained. What an embarrassment. The head chef should reconsider many things.....

Great breakfast buffet with high quality choices and friendly and attentive staff in a beautiful setting.A few of the highlights: -granola bar-huge selection of breads...the multigrain croissant was perfectly fluffy inside and reminded me of *gasp* a better version of a New York's The City Bakery's pretzel croissant-eggs and other dishes made to order (even if you have a weird egg order like I do)-multiple honey choices-various pork based deli meats-juice selection-smoothie bar with high both fruit and veggie options featuring quality ingredients including cooked cauliflower, avocado, and cheese stuffed pickled peppersI ate like the large human being I am and likely downed 3000 calories of food this morning....my next meal is in 14 hours at Mraz & Sohn so hopefully this breakfast tides me over. The only notable absence was the traditional pretzel I expect in all German speaking countries. Finally, I'll touch on it again, it's one of the coolest places to eat breakfast. Super awesome room that combines old world charm with modern touches.

The good - we went to the bar one day and the service was great. Also, the restaurant is so beautiful given that it used to be an old bank The bad - Where to start?Trying to get a reservation: we were told the restaurant was fully booked and there was nothing they could do. Later we learned Park Hyatt guests have reserved spots, so we eventually got a reservation. Fast forward to dinner time, and the restaurant was EMPTY the entire time. Maybe a few tables were occupied. So much for pulling teeth to get a reservation... The waiter: he was new on the job which is totally fine, but maybe someone should help train or assist. He couldn't help us navigate the menu and said the veal option my husband chose had what he thought were bold flavors (it was so bland). When we were ordering tea and said we wanted to know the herbal teas because we didn't want caffeine, he suggested green tea. For the price of this place, people should be trained. The food: the food was filled with salt and really just wasn't good. The bill: the bill included two cover charges. For what?? The impeccable service? Additionally, they charged us for a bottle of wine when I got a glass. They corrected this after we brought it up. However, they charged us for a pricier beer my husband had ordered and they didn't have the beer and so they offered him a cheaper one. So not only do you not have the beer on the menu, but you charge us for the price of that one instead of the cheaper substitute? Overall, the staff pays zero attention to detail and the prices are just too high for service lacking quality. Save your time and money and go somewhere else - just terrible! Also, this service is not one the Park Hyatt should want associated with it. Super disappointing.

Ate all our breakfasts and a dinner at the Bank. Amazing and creative food delivered with superb service. Absolutely loved everything about this place. Standouts at breakfast include the carrot waffles (sounds weird but delicious) and the poached eggs on avocado drizzled with chili oil and bonito fish flakes. For dinner, the standout was the burrata on gazpacho with mint sorbet - so innovative.

Tucked away in the Hyatt Hotel that was renovated from a historical bank, Lower Austrian Escompte Bank. The decor was very nice and has an open kitchen. The food was good but not spectacular. The service was sub par. We had to ask for things more than twice. The restaurant has a sommelier on staff but his recommended pairing was off... Overall the experience was good but not spectacular. They do have an English menu, and offers a la carte or prix fixe selection.

Beautiful restaurant, for a wonderful hotel and grand restaurant, the menu was a bit limited, but the dishes we ordered where very good. Would have given them five stars, but they brought the first course, and second course all at the same time.
Be the first to ReplyOne of our best dinners in Vienna.
Stunning architecture, great service and simply amazing food. The whole smoked fresh trout served warm just out of the smoker was the kind of dish I think about again and again, wishing I could have it again. Every but of food was special. Great cocktails from a friendly bar staff. This wonderful restaurant and bar is absolutely worth visiting.

We stayed at the PH Vienna for a week and tried breakfast at The Bank through room service and in the restaurant several times. The venue did not affect the quality of the food prepared and we happily looked forward to each meal. Our favorites were the House made granola, crispy bacon, cheese sausage and the PH Vienna blend tea. There is something super delicious about their scrambled eggs with mushroom. We also loved all the different honeys and cheeses available!

Being the expat that I am I arrived there with no reservation wanting a table for four, which was of course not possible right away. The hostess was nonetheless extremely friendly and I was accommodated by the bar, with enough couches and armchairs to accommodate our little group while we had drinks and waited for a table to be freed. It started well, with a complimentary glass of pro secco (it was some sort of "ladies' sparkling night" and all women got the treat - hope they have that on a regular basis!). After being sat we kept being pleasantly surprised. Great food, friendly service and a beautiful setting. Will certainly be coming back. Four stars only because after we got our main dishes the waiter started taking a long time to notice when we needed him.

Discovered this by accident, but the quality and atmosphere makes me going back again and again. The Bank is located in the relatively new Park Hyatt hotel in the 1st district. The building used to be a bank, and I guess that's where the name of the restaurant is coming from. The restaurant itself is located in the historic cashier hall. The first time I was in The Bank, I was recommended to go there. We had a small celebration with a few people, and we actually booked the chef's table. This one is located in the middle of the open kitchen, and is very prominent and comfortable. Staff was very friendly. In the beginning of the evening a bit reluctant, but as they noticed that our group was kind of easy going, they opened up as well. Very professional, very pleasant. I had some extra requests with the reservation and all were executed very well. The whole group was amazed by the quality of the food and service. We sometime still talk about their mandarin-ice.Then I didn't go there for a while but recently went back a few times for business and then privately as well. The quality of the food is still on a high level and the service is as friendly as it gets. A large selection of wines complement the offer. As for the food, you can order à la carte, or go with the tasting menu in either 3, 4 or 5 courses. They are serving European specialties in a modern style. I've tried both, and both are excellent. What you will choose will be based on the current menu. If there is something you don't fancy, you might want to go à la carte. If you ever have any need, just ask, the staff is very kind and willing to please. This restaurant is going in our list of favorites, and we're definitely coming back.
