The food was good, and I tried sharing this with girlfriend
The food was good, and I tried sharing this with girlfriend but it was too small of portion. Eating pad Thai by myself would of been too alittle as well. Limeade was sour and wasn't a fan of it but if you like sour drinks this is it for you. There was not much sparkling in the drink as I expected. Only about 10 percent sparkling and it was only all the way at the bottom somehow. The meat was tinder and seem raw because of how soft it was but is fully cooked.
Be the first to ReplyI flew 2,900 miles to try out this place.
I heard the wait can be two hours during peak times, so we lined up outside the restaurant 15 min before they opened for Saturday brunch and were the first one there. But even 5 min before opening time, I noticed a line already forming behind us. Crazy! When you get there, you'll want to check in with the hostess through a window outside the restaurant. There's a literal arrow sign pointing where to do that. Smart! ~~Ambience~~ Being the first one to be seated in an empty restaurant, we got to really take in the decor and vibe.... ~~Service~~ Service was friendly, prompt, and attentive. ~~Food~~ The most important part! -egg sandwich: heard amazing reviews about this, and would absolutely agree. The sandwich is already tasty but the sauce is what elevates the dish to another level! -uncle pon crab fried rice: I appreciate the generous portion of crab meat flaked throughout the dish. Overall, it's an above average crab fried rice, but again, the sauce adds another layer of zest and spicy bite to the dish which makes it more mouth watering -French toast: wanted to balance out all the savory dishes with something sweet. It's a good pairing between the sweetness from the condensed milk and the creaminess from the Thai tea whip cream, on top of some light and fluffy toasts. Overall, awesome spot for umami rich dishes with a fun, casual Thai dining experience. Would highly recommend.

FINALLY found time and by pure luck was able to get a reservation to check out this super popular spot! I never got to try Uncle Boon's (rip). I went in with high expectations and it exceeded all that! First off, the crab fried rice everyone raves about -- AMAZING! I would get that again and again and again! I wish I ordered more of that because it was so good! The Pad Thai was good, as well! The portion felt a bit small as the big shrimp and bean sprouts took up most of the space. On the side we had spicy pea shoots which were really spicy and I had to take the rest home. The grilled octopus was really yummy, as well, especially with the green sauce. The banana pudding was custardy. The top part was hard to break at first lol. I'd go back and try their brunch next time and get more crab fried rice!
Be the first to ReplyA lot of living in New York is waiting.
Whether it be waiting for the subway, waiting in line at Trader Joe's, waiting in line for a popular restaurant, etc. Waiting is kind of an inevitable element of New York life. But obviously one should weigh the opportunity cost of waiting with what they are waiting for. I went to Thai Diner on a Saturday afternoon with a group as I was told there was normally an hour or so wait on like a Friday or Saturday night. We ended up waiting only about a half hour to forty minutes or so. They take a small number of reservations. Anyway, on to the actual dining experience, overall it was a good experience but definitely not something I would wait a while for. I got a Thai Ice Tea and Noodles with Beef. They were pretty good, not remarkable. The space itself is pretty small, hence, the wait. But it's got a kitchy/homey vibe to it. I appreciate the effort that went into designing the interior of the restaurant. Overall, I would recommend trying it but would not wait more than a half hour for it as there definitely other Thai restaurants in the city without the wait/allow you to make reservations that have better food.

With a constant crowd gathered around every time I passed by, I didn't think we could have snagged seats until we walked in one weeknight. There was a bit of a wait still, but not too long. This spot was mediocre at best, with high prices to go along with small portions. Sure, the interior was extravagant, but parties are squished into small square tables to accomodate everyone. I can't imagine sipping alc enjoyably in this tight space. I have a blander palette, so I found the food here saltier and heavier than other Thai places'. Their Disco Fries ($13) is a taste sure to linger in your breath thanks to the peanut-y spicy curry ingredient. It's labeled as a snack, but this heavy small plate alone did the opposite of opening up my appetite. I had amazing Khao Soi ($25) in the past so I was looking for something similar at this popular spot. The version of the dish here was so intensely heavy. Their soft noodles was a fantastic texture, but the crunchier ones just tasted like wonton strips to me. Crunchy, too thick to mesh with the soft noodles, and did not soak in the sauce well. The chicken leg was also not tender at all. Their menu was actually very limiting if you're looking to try other Thai food options. I'm happy to have experienced this once, but both my wallet and stomach left disappointed from this experience.

We had a wonderful dinner here! We put our names in & waited an hour and a half on a Friday night & they texted us once our table was ready! We enjoyed all of the food. They were very gluten free friendly. We loved the octopus and the fries. We also loved the pad see ew and the green curry! For dessert, the coconut Sundae was amazing. Would highly recommend.

One of my favorite places to bring good friends if I can get a reservation. The fried chicken phat see ew and Khao soi are must orders. The brunch food is where they especially shine though. One thing I think you can avoid is the crab fried rice, of the three times I've had it, I've never been especially impressed The Thai iced tea and the cocktails are delicious too You have to finish any trip here with the monster cake!
Be the first to ReplyYumm! Loved this place for lunch.
We got the crab fried rice, disco fries and French toast. The crab fried rice and French toast were both delish!! Disco fries got pretty soggy with all the sauce soo wasn't a huge fan. Service was great and we got seated without resys on a weekday afternoon. Vibe was lively and busy for it being midday.

I LOVED Thai Diner! We were in town for a quick visit and met a friend for lunch. They picked the place and got us on the list to be seated. By the time we arrived, our table was ready. The booths are really small so if you're a bigger person, they might not be super comfortable. There are bar seats too like there should be in a diner. The menu is so super fun. I loved the thoughtfulness of it. Some typical or traditional diner plates but Thai style. For instance, I got the Thai Disco Fries. It was the bomb! It's pretty spicy hot so if you love hot, you'll love this. It's French fries topped with Massaman curry, green peppercorns, peanuts, and onions. Yum! Really fun dish. And bigger than I expected. We were having a late lunch with reservations elsewhere for dinner so I wanted something small. In comparison, my friend got the Phat Pad Thai entree and it was equally sized. By the way, she said it was the best Pad Thai she'd ever had (with the caveat that she'd not get the chicken again - it was fried and set on top as opposed to being in the dish. She wasn't a fan but said it didn't need it). It didn't stop me from eating the entire bowl of fries. I had to eat lighter at my fancy dinner and have no regrets! It's on my list to visit again next time we're in town.
Be the first to ReplyAbout an hour wait on a Friday night for a table of 3.
We are three average size people and the tiny booth was very uncomfortable. We ordered the seafood tower, it was very good. Was looking for more punchy flavor in the salads and sauces. Nothing was actually spicy. The chicken liver appetizer was very good, came with good amount of hot roti and nice accompaniments, pineapple, herbs, onion, and a nice sauce. This was my favorite dish. Also got the khao soi (spelling?) it was good, decent portion and flavorful. Crab fried rice was delicious. Pitchers of tamrind mezcal margaritas, can't go wrong. Overall was looking for more heat and strong flavors, this was slightly elevated Thai but I'd be hesitant to go back.

Went with a group of 7 and the staff was rude and unwilling to help. Several had never experienced NYC or Thai to bad. Won't recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was not that great.
I have had better Thai food. It is weird it is ranked so high. I expected the food to be great. The pad thai was greasy. The curry dish was not right. The sandwich everyone is raving about on tik tok wasn't great and I love roti. I didn't get the try dessert like I wanted too.
Be the first to ReplyThe most fun I've had at a thai place.
Cool ambiance good drinks, interesting exciting food. Pricier than your average thai but worth it. I did a lot of ordering by looking at other peoples plates

I love asian fusion and I love brunch, so this seemed like the perfect place. We arrived around 12:30ish on a Saturday afternoon with no reservations, but fortunately got seated in less than 5 minutes. It's a bit loud, but has really good energy. Service was friendly and efficient. Here's what we ordered: - Thai diner egg sandwich: This was definitely an upgrade to my typical breakfast sandwich. The roti is thin so it was hard to eat it like an actual sandwich/wrap but I loved the flavor. - Kaieng kieow waan (green curry braised duck leg): Duck is usually a hit or miss but this dish was my dad's favorite. Sometimes duck can taste too game-y or tough but that wasn't the case at all. It paired really nicely with the green curry, which was fragrant but not overpowering. - Thai tea babka french toast: This was my personal favorite. It came with a side of thai tea butter and salted condensed milk. The thai tea flavor came across surprisingly well. I would order this again! The desserts looked delicious but we were unfortunately quite full. Something to save for next time!
Be the first to ReplyFood, service, and ambiance are excellent.
We celebrated our anniversary here and could joy ask for anything more.

Waited for 30 mins on a Tuesday evening when it was snowing but TOTALLY WORTH IT. Everything from the food to the drinks to service was incredible. We got the disco fries and roti to begin with, both extremely flavorful and delicious. For mains, we had the crab fried rice and khao soi with chicken, both cooked to perfection. My friend also got the martini which he said was quite strong (and our server warned him lol) but still really good. Overall, it was one of the best dining experiences in the city I've had in the last 8 years. Just be prepared to wait for a table, there's a lot of bars close by so you can easily grab a drink somewhere while you wait.
Be the first to ReplyJust fabulous! Service, food, vibe and music.
Green Papaya salad best I've ever had anywhere

I would come here for vibes/ambiance/good cocktails but if I'm in search of good thai food, I would definitely go elsewhere. Dishes were whitewashed/nothing special.
Be the first to ReplyI wanna start off by saying that out of all the restaurants
I wanna start off by saying that out of all the restaurants I've been to Thai Diner is my favorite by far Their food is always amazing. The Pad Thai and Pad See Ew are probably some of the best in the city if not that best. The service is usually on top, their servers are really friendly and informative and the staff all around are delightful I also can't get enough of the interior! I love the 50s diner vibe mixed with some East Asian influences!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and services .
First time and will definitely return. We tried uncle boon's fried rice excellent. We also had octopus which was excellent as well. For dessert we tried the cheese cake that was excellent. I recommend Thai Diner as the best Thai food in the City! The Ambiance was nice and filled with nice people.
Be the first to ReplyThis place let me charge my dead phone I was so grateful.
Ambiance was lovely. We sat the one of the window tables where it was bright but when you go to the inner seats the lighting is dimmed out with louder music. The toast with Thai butter was so savory. Phat see ew was a little different from other places where it was slightly bitter from the vegetables. The burger had a lot going on. I could taste fish sauce and the burger itself was unique but too greasy for my liking. The shots were strong!
Be the first to ReplyHow isn't this 5 stars.
It's comfy, it's cozy, the service is excellent, the food is fantastic. It's just a perfect place to grab bomb thai.
Be the first to ReplyI came to Thai Diner for brunch on a Wednesday at noon.
I had a reservation for three which I made around a week in advance (although I read you can come without one on weekdays I just did not feel like risking it.) We got there right on time and were seated in this very nice booth in a corner. I was not super sure what to expect regarding the ambiance but I really liked it! It felt very casual, and had a very palpable "diner" feel with all the booths/ the decorations while keeping a strong Thai restaurant vibe at the same time-- I thought that was truly special and unique. Our really nice server came by with menus. They have a pretty straightforward selection with items for both breakfast (that are served until 5pm) and then dinner. For drinks, my boyfriend ordered an americano (since their bottomless coffee is only on weekends) and his brother got a thai ice coffee which they both really liked. In terms of food we had: Thai Disco Fries: I am not typically a fries person but these were actually amazing! They come with some massaman curry at the bottom, delicious grilled onions, and peanuts. The combination of the potatoes soaked in the creamy, rich, coconuty curry is amazing. The grilled onions also give it an extra dimension of flavor that is very good and everything goes well together mixed with the crunchy peanuts and scallions on top. They had a nice spicy kick from the curry! Keep this in mind if you have a low tolerance for spice (you can probably quench the heat with a refreshing thai tea though!) Truly, if fries always tasted like this, I would definitely eat them every day of my life. Thai Diner Egg Sandwich: amazing as well. The roti was buttery, and flaky. The egg was perfectly cooked and covered with a layer of that yellow American cheese that makes anything seem like a guilty pleasure. It came with really well flavored sausage as well and this really nice creamy white sauce that had basil in it. There is a citrus red sauce that comes with it which really ties it all together very well and highlights all the flavors. I was a fan of this sauce and thought the sandwich was definitely better with it than without but it is worth trying it both ways to see what you prefer! Phat See Ew: got this with chicken. The flavor was very good for this dish, it had a nice sauce that was not too rich but had the perfect level of umami/sweet. I was not too much of a fan of the noodles themselves since they were a little overdone and did not feel as chewy as I am used to. However, the chicken was actually fantastic. I feel like usually when you add a protein to a dish it tends to just be okay (chicken can be dry, bland, etc) but this was so flavorful, tender and juicy while maintaining a crispy skin. Wish I had just ordered extra chicken on the side because it was that good. Thai Tea Babka French Toast: delicious, as you might expect. The babka is soft, a little sweet, and grilled to perfection. You get a side of Thai Tea flavored butter that actually has a very strong thai tea flavor without being too sweet. Then you also get this really nice extra topping of salted condensed milk that was delicious because, again, it was not as sweet as you might imagine and had the delicious signature flavor of condensed milk. This was definitely one of my favorite dishes of the day! My only comment is that for me temperature gradients can be important under some contexts and I did not get that as much here-- the condensed milk was warm/hot and I feel like this dish would have been even better with cold condensed milk to have a more striking contrast with the warm french toast. Besides from this, it was perfect and I will most definitely get this again in the future. Overall, I truly loved this place! I want to come back already. The ambiance is super cute and unique, the service was excellent, and the food was incredible. If you want to get a good brunch that is a deviation from traditional American brunch spots, definitely come here. You will not regret it.
