😒 3/5 - Disappointing

I dined at this restaurant primarily because it was a restaurant where I was able to find a seat on a Sunday evening (many good restaurants in Tokyo are closed on Sundays) preceding a public holiday in Japan and during the Chinese New Year week when Tokyo is very busy with visitors from China, Hong Kong and other places in Asia. I was also intrigued by the description of the meal because although the name of the restaurant suggests that it is a tempura restaurant, it was said that the course would be a kaiseki course.
As soon as I arrived, my heart sank because I was the only diner at the counter (which has about 8 to 10 seats) : not a good sign at all. Eventually, I noticed that there were two other diners in the restaurant, in a private room. I was soon to discover why there were so few diners ...
The food was a total disappointment. As noted above, the course was described as a kaiseki course. However, with the exception of the soup, the tempura and the final rice dish, each dish was cold, consisting of small dishes with various thrown together. That's not my idea of a kaiseki meal. The tempura was also not of the quality I would expect of a one-Michelin starred restaurant. Whilst I did not expect it to be of the same high quality as that served at Mikawa, I expected it to be of at least the quality to be found at tempura restaurants like Nakagawa in Tokyo and Tenyu in Kyoto or even Ippoh in Hong Kong. It was not.
So my advice is that you're better off spending 25,000+ yen at a better restaurant.
