Delicious food and friendly professional service
We had dinner at Tamarind with friends. I was a little concerned beforehand at some of the reviews critical of the service and tight 2 hour window but need not have been. All of the dishes we chose from the a la Carte menu were beautifully presented and delicious. The staff were without exception friendly and attentive. The only criticism I’d make is that the wine took ages to arrive and the white wine wasn’t even chilled. We ended up having it with ice - good job it wasn’t a pricey one! We were there for over 3 hours and nobody rushed us at all. Overall a great experience.

Never having been to London before, we struggled a bit with realizing how much of the best restaurants and shops are down little side streets, none of which are in a grid pattern. Once we found it, we had what was probably the best Indian I have ever had . Toronto has a big South Asian community and loads of Indian restaurants, but this was quite different than just a bunch of curries and gravies. We had the gourmet menu (tasting menu). As someone else mentioned, the Chaat was what I want every other chaat to taste like. I was actually afraid to have the crispy lobster (why would you ruin good lobster with Indian spices??) and it ended up be the favourite part of the meal. The lamb chop was close behind. We had one negative. Over the course of almost 2 hours, we realized we were running short of time to make it to our show. Somehow over two hours and 4 or so people waiting on us, they neglected to give my wife her whole carafe of wine, and we had to leave with some expensive wine wasted. Having said that, this was one of the most memorable meals I've had.

Indian restaurants come and go, but this is still the best one in London. The food is exceptional (try the coconut chilli sea bass) and the staff couldn't be nicer.

We have just finished dinner, First time there , Slow service, and dry Wagyu Stake , My daughter asked for Nan bread, we asked 3 waiters and they never brought the Nan bread, at the end they blamed ether there colleagues or Printer . Over priced by far do what you eat and service you get .

Had the most fantastic evening here! The food was on another level, street food starter, lamb chops, crispy lobster were standouts. My wife was almost defeated by the heat of the Goan green curry, the waiters spotted the increasing ‘glow’ in the vicinity of her eyes and quietly brought over a lovely cooling yoghurt. Great cocktails, great gin, great wine, great beer, a great evening all in. Pricey but highly recommend a visit if you’re pushing the boat out.

Me and my partner often go to Michelin star restaurants and this is the reason why we chose to dine at Tamarind. Having that expectation, we were unfortunately disappointed. The service was okay but we didn't enjoy our gourmet menu as much as we wanted to. The lobster was nice and well presented, but the way they prepared it made it pointless as we don't feel the taste of the lobster and it is quite a shame. The preparation could have been better with something else. We had some nice courses but weren't surprised by anything, and we were expecting to be as it is usually the case in that type of restaurants. Also, my partner is a pastry chef in a Michelin star restaurant and likes to get inspiration when he goes to Michelin restaurant. So the disappointment was huge when we were served a fondant au chocolat as a desert. This is what he used to do for the kids menu when he was working at a brasserie. We know that India is not known for it's deserts but we were expecting to discover some Indian flavors nevertheless. (Maybe something with tamarind for example?) This seemed to us like a lazy way to end the dinner. I however wouldn't say that this is a bad restaurant , as our disappointment comes from our high expectations. It is maybe a nice place to eat indian food, but not for a Michelin experience.

Tamarind has top service and delicious food. We were there last night (and several times before with my son) and we got seriously food poisoned. We had noodle salad, seabas, chicken, lobster and shitake curry. I am writing this to inform the managememnt not to create scandal. Maybe you had more cases. Deal with it and I will be back in a couple of months.

We were a little apprehensive about booking here for our London break as some of the reviews were a bit harsh service wise but even though it was a busy Friday evening the staff were great! Attentive and friendly, We had good service from start to finish, had to ask for my wine to be filled up now and again but they took it to keep it chilled for me so I didn’t mind and when I gave them a shout they brought it instantly. had a really good evening thanks everyone!

Like a lot of restaurants post covid it’s all about too much emphasis on making money to the detriment of service food quality and price. Recently visited with my daughter…..we had gourmet menu which is churned out at break neck speed……I had to tell staff to slow down but clearly they are under pressure to get you out asap. So all in all another rather soulless money making machine which is losing the plot like many others in London…..will not be returning especially considering huge prices.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Indian food and a lovely lunch
We took a couple for a thank you lunch and were were not disappointed. We had a lovely time. We went for the set lunch and the food was delicious and plentiful, a bit too much to consume in the time we had available although I managed to squeeze it all in. The starter was delicious and the curry and dahl exceptional. I was worried we might not have enough rice, my guests love rice but it was enough and they loved the whole menu and the experience. Service was low key and attentive, the ambience was great and the decor lovely. With hindsight I wished I'd booked an earlier lunch slot so we had more time in-between courses but that was down to me. I would have no hesitation coming again or recommending this as a great place for a lovely treat.
Be the first to ReplyOk food but slow inattentive service
Visited as a party of 4 having last been some time prior. Seated downstairs at a draughty table by the staircase despite it not being busy……and there we were left ! Eventually a drinks order was taken and eventually it came. Staff we busily engaged acting as though they were very important and doing very little. Any request couldn’t be attended to immediately as it was someone else’s role it seemed. Preferred wine not available. Food spilled on table and not cleaned up. All in all the food was good but not matched by the service, especially at the price point paid which was close to £200 per head with only one bottle of wine. Better options available out there and so unlikely to return.
Be the first to ReplyHigh end Indian food without high end prices
The food is absolutely amazing (and beautiful!). And service couldn’t be better (helo Nigel! So nice! And Rohan is an amazing bartender). It is a great option to have high end Indian food in London without ridiculous prices; based on the prices, you would never believe they have a Michelin star. The lunch menu is an excellent option to try different dishes in good portions, especially to share. Would definitely come back when in London.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Prawns; pathetic desserts.
Positives: Excellent tandoori king prawns chargrilled and suitably seasoned. The Paneer Methi was a large dish and both flavoursome and mild, with lots of paneer pieces. The drinks were mouthwatering. Areas for improvement: Although I love sundried tomatoes, I came here for an Indian dish, not Mediterranean flavours. Tamarind is the first Indian restaurant I have been to where sundried tomatoes are in the rice and the daal. The daal was watery and lacking in distinctive flavours. £10 for a dessert that comes bulk frozen rather than prepared fresh on the site is a joke. £10 for the mango lollipop was a total rip-off. I don't mind paying this for freshly prepared outstanding deserts. The mango lollipop was definitely not exquisite. The drinks are far too small considering how expensive they are. Steer clear of the crab xec xec. It consists of a tiny amount of paste beautifully displayed in shells, leaves, and salt. What you can eat is only a spoonful.
Be the first to ReplyTasty But Pricey!
Great food and a lovely atmosphere. Quite pricey but great quality tasty food in the heart of Mayfair. Dishes did come thick and fast and I felt a bit rushed initially but there were 7 starters to get through on the taster menu! All in all, very happy I decided to try this place
Be the first to ReplyLovely food, but those with allergies beware!
I visited Tamarind last Sunday for a celebratory lunch for my partner’s mother’s birthday. On booking and arrival, it was clearly explained that I had coeliac disease, which means I cannot eat any gluten. The restaurant assured us that they could do dishes gluten free (with the standard disclaimer of all restaurants that they couldn’t 100% guarantee no cross-contamination traces whatsoever - which I always accept at my own risk, provided the restaurant are doing their upmost to avoid it). The meal itself was lovely, and to ensure I could partake in the tasting menu with the rest of our party, the manager arranged for gluten free alternatives to be served alongside…so far so good. However, two hours later is where this positive experience significantly changes. It became very clear to me that I had been served a completely 100% gluten dish. Within two hours, I had a severe food poisoning level reaction which resulted in me being violently sick and ill, curled up on my bathroom floor in agony for the remainder of the evening, with the after effects felt throughout the entirety of this week. A cross-contamination reaction would be far less severe, with only mild symptoms, and appear typically 3-5 days later, which is why I know I was served a fully gluten dish (especially as I’d not eaten any other meal that day). However, what concerns me most is the restaurant’s reaction to my partner advising them of what had happened on my behalf (I was too ill to do so). Despite being a Michelin star restaurant, and having a duty of care to their customers, the response received to this complaint was abysmal and disrespectful. Rather than being concerned for my welfare and investigating it properly to safeguard this happening to others in future, my partner has been repeatedly fobbed off with promises, several times, that the restaurant manager would call - who never did, despite my partner repeatedly calling the restaurant to try and speak to them. What is worse, I paid extra for the privilege of partaking in the tasting menu and having this be gluten free - Rather than swapping dishes out, it turned out the restaurant had charged us the full price for each (supposedly gluten free) dish - which meant my tasting menu cost significantly more than the rest of the party, who were all charged a flat rate. No compensation has been offered by the restaurant either, despite the clear poisoning. I’m usually quite forgiving of restaurants, as I know accidents happen, and want to try and use occasions, such as this, as an educational moment, to try and safeguard others…however the response we received afterwards has significantly marred the entire experience for me, and ruined what was otherwise meant to be a lovely birthday lunch for my partner’s mother. As a result, I felt I had no other option other than to write on here, to warn others, given the uncaring response received from the Tamarind. I hope this review helps protect others with allergies or coeliac disease, who I would advise to proceed with caution if they’re considering visiting this restaurant in future.
Be the first to ReplyAnniversary Dinner
We booked dinner for our anniversary. Our waiter was excellent. Gary looked after us. He was very knowledgeable about the amount of food required if you wished to choose the al carte menu. We choose the vegetarian tasting menu and every dish was excellent. The non- alcoholic cocktails were very good. The Tamrind house lassi was really delicious.

We were staying at the Chesterfield Mayfair, and the concierge suggested this great restaurant. We did the al la carte menu, and experienced all types of foods. All were excellent. This was just a "fun" experience. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to Reply16 Year Wait
We visited London almost 16 years ago to the month. During that last day we wanted to experience a great Indian dinner and so we visited Tamarind. We talked about that meal for 16 years. So we the opportunity came up to visit London for only 24 hours our choice of dining options was already decided. When we were here last we ate in the lower level, only option at that time, but for this visit we sat up stairs. We explained to one of the managers that we had visited 16 years ago and he shared with us what had changed. He stated that they didn’t want to be just a “curry house” which we took as they wanted to take your Indian dining experience to a new level and leave all others in their curry dust. They have specialized in small plates and grill options. This, in my opinion, allows you to experience a little of everything. While some of the dishes aren’t your typical Indian dishes, they incorporate the spices and flavors and pull those foods into the cuisine that they are known for. The plates were elegantly prepared paying close attention to the tiniest of details. Flavors were amazing and the level of heat was perfect! You simply can’t go wrong with this exquisite dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing!
Rather disappointed. The place is crammed, it felt like we were sitting in each other’s laps for the meal, we could clearly hear the conversations of all around us and that was annoying. Food wasn’t what I expected it to be, probably better food in a cheaper restaurant in Southall.
Be the first to ReplyWonderfully fragrant and flavourful lunch served with distinction
Tamarind is my NBF in the London restaurant scene having visited yet again with two guests at the end of March. We were provided with the table requested, welcomed ahead of the official 12noon opening for lunch and generally made to feel like VIP’s.
Once again, I persuaded my guests to opt for the Tasting Menu which at £69pp is very good value for Michelin star quality food served in their light and airy first floor restaurant. The curly kale salad is a fresh starter, swiftly followed by a grilled king scallop in a coconut curry sauce. The tandoori wooden platter (see photo) of gilafi duck seekh kebab, king prawn and chicken thighs tikka hasnu was magnificent : wonderfully tender meat from the marinade and some crisp edges from the hot tandoor oven. As we were celebrating, I slipped some additional tandoori lamb chops into the mix. Just sensationally flavoured meat
The chicken biryani brilliantly presented with a pastry topping, lamb curry with meat dropping of the leg bone and Hyderabad dal katli served with beetroot raita and piping hot multigrain naan bread brought our culinary adventure to a close though we all had a little space for chocolate dessert.
This was yet another first-class lunch provided by the great team in the kitchen and served by experienced and knowledgeable waiting staff.
Excellent in every way, Can’t wait to find an excuse to return? Perhaps a treat for younger son!
Unwelcoming atmosphere
We had dinner with friends, unfortunately we were a bit late and apologised on our arrival but from then on we were made to feel very uncomfortable. We were reminded that dinner service for each booking is 2 hours, we were rushed, staff did not take the time to tell us about the menu and the bill was brought over to us as soon as our table hit the 2 hours deadline. My friend and I went to use the ladies before leaving but eyes followed us as if they were suspicious of us leaving the restaurant without paying even though half of our table were still sitting at the table. Food wasn't great either, we would choose our local Indian take away any day. The veggie biryani tasted like the vegetables were cooked first and put at the bottom of the dish with the rice just put on top so lacked flavour. Although the ribs were tender and has flavour, it was full of fat and was hard to swallow. Overall all very disappointing, would not recommend and definitely not worth the price we paid.
Be the first to ReplyRude and unaccomodating
We arrived on time for our booking after a strenuous journey only to be turned away because of our child, none of this was mentioned at the time of booking or on the phone when I called the day before. Very disappointed with how unbothered the management was to even have a conversation.

We were looking forward to attending here whilst in London. Pre booked which I am sure is needed. The entrance is lovely and the restaurant is up one flight of stairs. We ordered a vegetarian tasting menu . The waiter brought 3 taster courses and placed the food in front of my husband and spoke directly to my husband when explaining the dishes - no eye contact was provided to me and the I saw the back of the waiter leaning forward to my husband on all occasions - which my husband even noticed because it was like Fawlty Towers it was so obvious. Another waiter then brought the remaining dishes and we were served chicken. We explained that we had ordered a vegetarian meal for two and as a result the waiter explained that it was difficult to separate out the vegetarian dishes from the kitchen with no apology offered. The service as a whole was terrible. Over priced taster menu compared to other Michelin star restaurants we have visited over the last few years. When the bill came it was the women who paid - take note restaurant!!!!! Not expected in this day and not for such an establishment
Be the first to ReplyA fantastic meal.
Opted for the weekend set menu, every dish was cooked to perfection. Service is excellent and all dishes explained, it was my partners birthday and it was a lovely touch at the end with delicious chocolate cake with a candle, highly recommend.
Thank you for a lovely lunch.
Excellent service all round
Was treated to a Christmas lunch here by friends. We chose the Weekend Lunch Menu and were not disappointed. Service was exceptional, no request was queried but quickly dealt with courteously and efficiently. The menu was outstanding - every dish was exceptional, both on the vegetarian menu and the non-vegetarian one, the latter particularly being quite superbly presented and cooked. Will definitely return here with family members. The ambiance was great, with everyone seemingly enjoying themselves. Looking forward to a revisit soon.
