Sushi Gaga San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
Most incredible and intimate dining experience.
Loved the omakase so much! Went here for my birthday and were impressed by the attention to detail and service! Highly recommend for a special event such a date night, birthday, celebration, etc. love how the food is prepared in front of you and you can actually talk to the chefs! The also loved the sake pairing!
Who knew that hidden behind Asa Bakery was an omakase
Who knew that hidden behind Asa Bakery was an omakase speakeasy! The service here was incomparable. No detail went unnoticed. The venue is a very well done modern Japanese aesthetic. Food overall was very good. There were just a few dishes that were a bit on the salty side, which was surprising given the high level of quality of everything else. Despite that, it was a great experience!
Gaga is the newest concept from the masters behind Beshock
Gaga is the newest concept from the masters behind Beshock Ramen. Tucked away behind a secret door in Asa Bakery, Chef Jason and Chef Shin create some of the most decadent and precise sushi that I've eaten outside of Japan. With only one seating and a nearly 3 hour dinner Gaga really makes you feel like you're royalty or part of a secret club. The service was was done with real care and attention to detail. The servers even fold the toilet paper after someone uses the restroom. Being a product of Beshock the Sake menu is impeccable with a coursed option to match each dish or bottles/carafes to meet any price point. You can even order cocktails from the speakeasy in the same building. According to their website they are not able to meet dietary restrictions. So picky eaters and delicate people should consider that before reserving. Overall a 10/10 experience ありがとうございます。
Major disappointment.
This establishment does not accomodate your dietary restrictions. I had been looking forward to try sushi gaga for a long time. I booked my birthday dinner one month in advance. 2 weeks prior to my birthday, they emailed me saying I won't be able to enjoy their omakase as I have dietary rescteictions and they don't accomodate. They are wrong in thinking that they know what I enjoy or don't enjoy. I'm a picky eater but I've enjoyed omakase at numerous sushi establishments both in San Diego and Japan and I throughly enjoyed it every time. I'm sure I would have enjoyed sushi gaga as well. Now onto the difficulty of cancellation. Since they offered to help cancelling my reservation in their email, I replied asking them to do so. Got no response. They don't provide an option to cancel via Tock app, so the only option is to call them. I called throughout the day but no one picked up the phone. I left VM but never got a call back. Took me 4 days to cancel which isn't a pleasant experience especially when they charge full meal($643) at the time of booking. I think partial deposit is reasonale but full meal??? I will continue to go to other omakase restaurants who are willing to accomodate my dietary restrictions and let me enjoy their omakase.

San Diego has a lot of work to do to catch up with the world's food scene. Sushi Gaga puts San Diego on that roadmap. The restaurant's decor is set in a classical Japanese setting, but from the speakeasy like entrance to the beautiful display of rocks behind the sushi bar, the restaurant passes the eye test from the interior. The vibe is intimate, yet relaxed. The drinks and conversations will flow with the rest of the crowd, for those who desire. The chefs, mainly concentrating on the food seeking perfection, are true professionals at their craft. The course menu at GAGA delivered big time. From the start to the finish, the items hit home visually and the palettes fulfilled. The daring combinations of classical dishes and untraditional add ons. Risks taken, textures and flavors fully delivered. Thank you team Gaga, will be back very soon.
It's still solid.
They significantly expanded their drink menu and it's impressive. The sake pairing was popular, but I opted for a beer and The Stache from Bar Kamon. They are now open six days a week and seem to be doing well. It was a full house this evening. The warm toilet seat in the bathroom was an added bonus.

We had a wonderful experience at Sushi Gaga! It's a great place for a special occasion. The food was fun and creative. I did find that the nigiri tend to be a little too salty for my liking...I like to taste the fish and sometimes it was overwhelmed with salt. It is a higher price point than other local omakase, but the quality of ingredients is also higher...chef was very generous with caviar, truffle, etc. Would recommend for a special occasion but not my go-to omakase as I like a simpler Edomae sushi experience.
Highly recommend sake pairing! It just completed the
Highly recommend sake pairing! It just completed the omakase experience. Their sake was a whole different level. Trying nine different sake including cold and warm sake was very satisfying. I also liked that they gave us different sake glasses. Their Omakase was delicious! Fresh ingredient, creative combination and nice presentation. My hubby and I loved everything. I will just point out a few dishes. Oyster was full of flavor. It made me feel like in the middle of ocean. The flavor of Bisque was rich. I liked the bread from ASA bakery. It was bouncy. And roasted popped brown rice on the top of bread is so Japanese. I was surprised by their braised Abalone. I normally am not a huge fan of abalone. But they made it so tender. Liver Pate sauce was a great match. Also Kinome Leaf was a great touch. I was impressed how they thought about putting all these flavors together. Snowcrab was tasty. Crab meat and crab roe were so good. I also like soy sauce jelly. It's lighter than liquid soy sauce. But it had texture. Rice was covered by some brown tiny thing. (Maybe some kind of roe). I love it! Gaga roll was a great combination of all my favorites! The only dish that didn't meet my expectation was dessert. It was Hokkaido Milk Soft Serve. It did taste good. But they also sell it at ASA bakery. I already had it at ASA bakery a few weeks ago. It just didn't seem they put enough efforts for dessert in a omakase course. I do like that they gave us a box of pastry from ASA bakery in the end. It was wrapped beautifully.
My second visit to Sushi Gaga and the winter menu and
My second visit to Sushi Gaga and the winter menu and experience beat out the first time which was amazing to begin with. Loved the snow crab, abalone and Uni! The Uni bisque was mouth watering and they should seriously consider making that a mainstay signature dish to be experienced and admired by all who dine at this fine establishment! Service was great and the intimate bar experience was wonderful!
Sushi Gaga is aesthetically astounding.
Make no doubt about it. The refined stone wall with clean wood paneling gives no confusion that Gaga is refined. Nestled almost in speakeasy fashion inside Asa Bakery, this omakase only sushi dining experience has been making BIG splashes in the East Village Pool. We started off the evening waiting outside the secret door to the sushi backroom. Offered a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, the service and attention to detail came out swinging. The counter only service was incredibly personal. The fish was fresh and the ingredients (which were proudly placed on display to us) were immaculate. My two gripes (and truly there were only two) was the level of knowledge/attention to detail of the waitresses and the value. Numerous times, the waitresses just seemed out of their element. Not as knowledgeable about the sake pairing that they were serving. Additionally, my girlfriend doesn't eat beef so had to get the wagyu course swapped out with an uni nigiri (no complaints. the uni was incredible) however, the sake pairing was late (after she got already got and ate the uni) and during the explanation the waitress kept reminding her about the quality of the wagyu and how the sake would pair perfectly. This ties into the second point. At $250 a seat, the price point is competitive if not more than the local Michelin star sushi restaurants. With the errors and lapses of service, I don't think Gaga warrants the price tag it demands. Does it have the potential? ABSOLUTELY. I'll be eager to come try again once Gaga has had more time under it's belt. If you crave an elevated dining experience. Go to Gaga--at least once.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res

Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
