Phenomal place, food, and experience! I was initially running 20 min late because I had gone to the wrong location (don't make the same mistake), but they were so nice about it and let me know they were going to start plating. The speakeasy-esque interior presents with a cafe front and a dimly lit sushi bar behind the doors. There are 8 total seats which makes it a very intimate experience. I enjoyed watching the chef roll up the sushi and paint them in exquisite flavors, and then of course getting to devour these meticulously crafted sushi. Definitely a solid and affordable omakase place!

The sushi quality was phenomenal and the team was so fun! Such a great place for a date. Delicious cocktails. We loved Chef Orby. An awesome night!

A great Omakase experience without all the hassle! Cute, inviting, fun, delicious, surprising! A moderately priced enjoyable experience!
Be the first to Replylove everything about this place.
excellent sushi and they are flex about the types of fish you can have for the omakase (which isn't normally the case). the price is very reasonable. And while you do have a time limit you in no way feel rushed. yum yum yum!
Be the first to ReplyUPDATE: They were able to fix the issue.
Thank you! Poor customer service. I filed a complaint and asked why they did not follow instructions regarding the charges on our company card. They say they will update me within 24 hours but there's no update. They replied, "GOT IT" to my messages but did not adhere to what we discussed.
Be the first to ReplyThe food, service, and experience were good.
It is light fare, so it's a great place to start the night out with some nibbles and drinks.
Be the first to ReplyThis was a surprise date for my girlfriend on valentines
This was a surprise date for my girlfriend on valentines day. Being two broke college students but still wanting the nice things in life i decided i would treat her out to an affordable omakase experience. We arrived unreasonably early and it was no problem for the staff. The bougie omakase experience itself was amazing the food was the best sushi either of us had i couldn't believe the price of it being as low as it was. The service and attention to detail was spot on. our omakase chef noticed our reactions when he brought out the sea urchin for the guests next to us. seeing this he then made us a roll and we loved it a lot. our next roll was supposed to be the surf and turf but our chef decided to give as another roll with sea urchin which was super cool of him and just showcases the fantastic customer service and attention to detail. This experience is well worth the money.

I was recommended Sushi By Bou through friends and family, and boy were they right about the price and tasty-ness of the omakase. What made this experience better was that this Sushi By Bou location is actually a speakeasy, so definitely do not get confused when you arrive at a coffee shop looking for omakase because it is in the back of the cafe. Just ask the cafe employees where Sushi by Bou is located! $60.00 for 12 pieces of fresh nigiri-zushi in NYC is very rare! Watching our chef carefully piece together each nigiri-zushi was such a peaceful experience - it's like watching a artist craft his piece of art. Not only was the fish fresh, our waitress was also super attentive, ensuring that my water was never below the half-way mark. My friend also loved this place and agreed it is a great price point for anyone whose starting their omakase adventures in the city. It was also her first time experiencing an omakase meal and she will for sure be checking out more Sushi By Bou Locations.
Be the first to ReplyBest dinner experience I've ever had and so happy I had it
Best dinner experience I've ever had and so happy I had it with my roommates!! Service was 15/10. Literally food and everything was so good all around. Will definitely be taking visitors here!! (Ask for el chapo!!) It's also really cool that it's a sushi speakeasy (hidden behind a flower shop). Small space but well decorated.

Poor experience with trying to accommodate someone who doesn't eat fish. Offered to pay the $$ in drinks instead of food and they said no. Then the seats next to us were empty. Very very disappointing
Be the first to ReplyThis location is in a small room tucked behind a coffee
This location is in a small room tucked behind a coffee shop, giving it speakeasy vibes, almost like you're dining in someone's apartment. There's a long bar with seating for omakase at the far wall, as well as a small bar and a few two-person tables close to the entrance. They do a lot with the small space, but it's hard to ignore how cramped it is.The cocktails were good, it was nice to sit at a table for a bit before starting the omakase. The sushi itself was solid, lots of interesting combinations in 12 courses. Not mind blowing, but for the price, it's a good deal. Just don't expect the most authentic omakase experience, or a lot of elbow room for that matter!
Be the first to ReplyThe minute we walk through this flower shop speakeasy
The minute we walk through this flower shop speakeasy restaurant in the back we were greeted by George who was fantastic. The sushi on Omakasa was very fresh and each dish delicious after the next my favorite was the scallops and the fatty tuna. The sake was great even the music was fun all and all a great intimate meal and wasn't as price gouging as I thought it was going to be. I will definitely be back.

I have had their sushi at many different locations, and not once it left me disappointed. I would Sushi by bou is the BEST VALUED omakase in new york by far. And besides that, they always provide A games for their pick of location and decor. I went to the time square basement and the one in a hotel too. This one they made it like a speakeasy.

Update: The management team reached out to me and refunded a portion of my omakase experience- something I greatly appreciate. I am cautiously optimistic that future patrons will have a better and more positively consistent experience as highlighted by other amazing reviews at this location._________________________________________________________Really wanted to like this place because of all the great reviews...but I left underwhelmed and blindsided.RED FLAGS:-- truly mediocre food-- untrained, anxious, frazzled, and unawarely(?) rude staff-- poor business model & set-up-- not good for large groups/socializing; not even a good date night experience (no time to converse)-- literally eat & go PREVIEW:You walk into a flower shop, and the omakase place is behind a door inside the shop. There are essentially three areas here. 1) the omakase bar (seats 9 people) w/ 2 chefs 2) a bar with tall chairs (~5 chairs) 3) sofa + small tables against the wall (seats ~10 people). You sit at the other two waiting areas BEFORE you get seated at the bar. You can order cocktails while waiting for your turn. You also get moved to these waiting areas AFTER your omakase experience and wait & pay.Lots of people shuffling with very little room to move about. Reservation at 7:15pm on a weeknight. Arrived at 7:10pm (ish) Was sat at 7:25pm- cause a large group of 6 men before us were refusing to leave the omakase barFOOD: -- $60 for a 12 piece americanized omakase: a good deal, in the setting of average nigiri -- overseasoned and chefs rely too heavily on the sauces to the point where it overpowers the fish itself & the bite gets too heavy-- some pieces were decent in their defense-- each piece comes out immediately. piece after piece. no room to digest and savor each piece. after you finish chewing, another piece is placed on your plate.DRINKS:-- average, the cocktail was brought out 15min later-- we ordered when we sat down at the sofas (where we sat for ~15-20min)-- got the drink about 5 min into the omakase experience; had to gulp it down cause of the short eating experience SERVICE:-- omg-- one of the waiters spilled water on my partner's shirt & didn't notice it-- the waiter grabbed the top of my water cup with the length of his hand (the area where you put your mouth and make contact with the cup) to pour water...cleanliness??-- got the toro hand roll and spit out a 0.5 cm of plastic -- as the LAST piece of the omakase was placed on my plate, I was still trying to digest the last piece...I didn't touch it for 1-2 min, and the chef mouthed to the waitress "she's not touching it" ; the entire time the waitress was behind us waiting to move us back to to the seating area (to get ready for the next group); are you in this much of a hurry to push your customers out?-- there's a 30 views in 30 min sort of a perk: where if you post about sushi by bou on IG when you sit down, and get 30 views at the end of the omakase, then you can get a free hand roll. After my last piece, I showed the waitress the story, and she said yes you can get a handroll. She was like can you enjoy your handroll piece over by the bar (at the time the bar was FULL- literally no space left, mind you the large group of 6 men STILL hasn't left). I was like sure, as I got out of the chair, the male chef makes a comment "you should've told me earlier" while proceeding to make my handroll. Like wth, what's the point of the promotion then? How was I supposed to know I was going to more than 30 views of my story by the end of my omakase experience? -- because of the large group before us, it cut down on OUR omakase seating experience so everything can get back on schedule. OTHER people's lack of planning can cause inconvenience for YOUThe only consolation was the waitress offered a sake shot for the both of us on the House before we left. We declined. At least she was aware of how we were feeling before we left.SUGGESTIONS FOR SUSH BY BOU:-- maybe go for lunch, not dinner-- change the business model. Ensure the seating experience is actually what it is; consider extending it or staggering the reservations/seating times. Sushi by M has a 90min seating experience though omakase may be less than that to account for large groups who refuse to leave, any stragglers, and cleaning up portion-- the set-up is pretty, dim, & romantic (if not so rushed); it's a speakeasy after all; so that's a plus

A true old fashioned with luxardo cherries? Sushi pieces that's topped with more brush of soy sauce? Lovely staff who actually give a crap and love what they do?!Sexy speak easy with rare Japanese whiskeys on roarin 20s vibe?AND this doubles as a late night flower shop?!Yeah my girlfriend was pretty happy.
Be the first to ReplyFrom start to finish, I had an excellent time here.
Without exaggeration, I can honestly describe the experience as euphoric. This was mine and boyfriend's first omakase experience. It was a perfect one to say the least. I was a little anxious leading up to it, as I'm not used to a 1 on 1 experience with a chef preparing food at my literal fingertips. What helped to relieve this was the impeccable service! Every employee was extremely welcoming and genuine -- from the flower shop workers who led us into the bar, to our server- Kristina, the bartenders, and our amazing sushi chef El Chapo! I was in love with the speakeasy-style. Once you come in, it's dark, old-school, with lovely hip/jazz music playing in the background. Now moving to the food.. $60 for a 12-course meal in 30 minutes (pre-set menu with an optional add-on menu for the end). Timing was punctual so it felt quick, but I can say every piece was amazing. You are reminded of how to eat the sushi properly/omakase etiquette. Very first-timer friendly and quite laid back! Nice drink menu and selection of sake. One cocktail had me tipsy. Since there was room at the lounge tables after dinner, we were offered to sit if we wanted to enjoy additional time for drinks. I highly recommend this location if you are looking for a fun, exciting, and hip omakase spot! Thank you for reading my review.

My first, and definitely not my last time at Sushi by Bou!A very affordable omakase experience, guaranteed to make you want more. Every piece was well crafted and delicious. The Uni piece was especially juicy and smooth. There seemed to be some miscommunication about a certain piece, but the chefs were kind enough to offer an extra piece as well as sake for inconveniences which was super appreciated. Will be back soon :)

Be the first to ReplyWent here for special birthday dinner.
Omakase was incredible! Splurge for the 60minutes. The sushi chef was friendly and attentive as were the bar tenders and hostess. Great lounge feel and the speakeasy entrance is really fun. I can't even pick a favorite piece--it was all super delish!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful dinner and a fantastic, intimate venue.
Storefront is a active coffee/flower shop and entrances to the back. Reservations are highly recommended. Given they have a nine seat seating area that is bar style where are you are served by one of two chefs. They also have a few couches/lounge tables for bar service. Overall from start to finish we loved our dinner : the experience, food, ambience, service and drinks were all exceptionalOur Omakase menu was 12 pieces of which I loved: yellowtail, lean tuna, chopped tuna, miso cod, fatty tuna, salmon. The portions were perfect and bite-size. The entire tasting talk about 45 minutes although we had reservations for an hour and 15. You were able to order hand rolls/ extra pieces afterwards which we did as the meal was delicious but not overly filling. Drinks: honey bee and Kyushu cove. Southsider was okay. Pricing was reasonable given quality of food and personalized attention. Great for date night, friends night, work dinners. Not for loud rowdy crowds.
