There is NO GOOD SUSHI IN THE MIDWEST. So when I have the opportunity to eat proper sushi, I MAKE SURE I GET PROPER SUSHI. SUGARFISH did not disappoint. I took yelp's suggestions and ordered "don't think. Just eat." It was the perfect amount of food for one person. I was just on the verge of regretting ordering too much food when the check came. Sadly there is no dessert menu. But really... you don't need it. But I have to talk about the actual food. The proteins were mouth-watering fresh, delicate, and perfectly apportioned. The salmon sashimi came with some kind of thin-ass seaweed sheet (it was not the thick green sheet that you're used to, it was almost translucent!) and toasted sesame seeds that resulted in the most well-balanced flavors for a sweet meat like salmon that I've ever had. Honestly, I'm going to be dreaming of that salmon sashimi. My palate is forever ruined. Also, SINCE WHEN DOES SHRIMP HAVE A CREAMY TEXTURE?!?!?! Delicious. Apparently some folks are put off by the rice being warm? At least that's what my server said. But to me, it's a signal that literally everything is coming fresh from the kitchen SO ENJOY IT. I had just enough ginger that I could have a piece in between each individual piece of sashimi or hand roll course. I'm used to dunking my sushi in soy and wasabi; I barely used it here because everything was so frikin fresh and some courses came with seasonings (so why mess with a good thing?). For a Sunday night, the place was crowded (good sign). I managed to be seated at the bar immediately because I was eating by myself. I had a great view of the kitchen, and everyone was working their station like a well-oiled machine. Just, solid fresh sushi for the price. If im ever in town again, Im making my midwestern-ass husband take me here after he gets his in-n-out fix; I'd rather save my appetite for amazing sushi.
