Came with a party of 2 on a Monday evening and we were seated right away. I decided to go with the Trust Me Lite ($25) as I have a smaller appetite, and it ended up being the perfect amount of food! The Trust Me Lite came with edamame, tuna sashimi, 4 nigiri (albacore, sesame topped salmon, yellowtail, shrimp), and a toro (fatty tuna) hand roll. My favorites would have to be the albacore and yellowtail nigiri. The tables are a bit close together, as I'm guessing they don't expect guests to stay for extended periods of time, but I enjoyed the overall ambiance & experience. I believe they validate parking, but we decided to just park in the lot behind Mendocino Farms down the street. Would recommend coming here if you enjoy sushi and are looking for a slight splurge!

Sugarfish is consistent in their food, consistent in their service, and top notch for a sushi chain. Once the management stabilised at this location things got good. Getting a table is difficult during lunch or dinner time. Prepare for an hour wait, no reservations, all sugarfish seating policies are rather stringent.

Best sushi I have ever had & Paul gave us the best service we have received in a very long time. He was very attentive and had a great time. My parents went back 2 days later they had such a great experience. Thank you, Paul! Even though they don't take reservations, the wait is never that long! Totally worth the wait every time!

Sugarfish operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so join the waitlist immediately and occupy yourself by walking around the area or with a drink while waiting. It took us about 2 hours on a Saturday night. The restaurant's intimate setting can only accommodate around 10 parties at a time, making it less ideal for larger groups. We opted for the Trust Me set menu. Highlights were the Tuna Sashimi, Salmon Sushi, and Toro Handroll. While the rice tended to fall apart easily, possibly due to insufficient rice vinegar or inadequate resting time after cooking, the sashimi quality was exceptional. It had a wonderfully buttery texture, complemented by the light ponzu sauce and chive garnish. There is a bathroom available, but its cleanliness doesn't quite match the restaurant's otherwise nice ambiance. Additionally, the dim, intimate lighting may not be ideal for capturing photos.

I had a great time dining at the sunset blvd location, so I expected my experience here to be on par. While the fish was still high quality, the rice and service were below average. I usually order the Trust Me, which is a perfect amount to fill me up. The servers brought out our orders all at once, unlike other locations which brings it out piece-by-piece to ensure quality and freshness. So by the time I got to the blue crab hand roll (which is always saved for last), the seaweed wrap was already soggy. The rice here is also mushy and fell apart into little bits in the hand roll and nigiri. That was disappointing since Sugarfish is known for their rice. Servers here are also not as attentive compared to Sugarfish on sunset. I'll save my time and visit other locations next time.
Be the first to ReplyI almost never give 5 stars but HOLY SASHIMI!!!! This place
I almost never give 5 stars but HOLY SASHIMI!!!! This place was amazing! The fish essentially melts in your mouth! This sets raw fish on a whole new level for me. This place has a set menu that comes with three options: 1. Trust me, 2. NOZAWA trust me, and 3. Trust me lite, 4. Don't think, just eat trust me Each one is different prices and various sizes that you can choose based on your hunger level and budget. The prices here were not as bad as I expected! So it makes for an amazing experience that won't exactly break the budget. For food, I got the NOZAWA trust me, which was AMAZING! They actually subed one of the rolls with a scallop roll and it was my favorite! However, everything was amazing and to die for. Then for drinks I tried the Nigori sake, which came in a bottle! And of course the classic Sapporo beer! Both were delicious! I'm addicted to this place now! 10/10 recommend giving it a try
Be the first to ReplyHusband picked up the best sushi for me after giving birth.
By the time it got to the hospital, it was just as delicious as I remembered. Everything was so yummy and fresh and I love that they have such beautiful presentation. Every bite was perfectly executed. No fishy taste, quality is amazing, and I can't wait to dine in again.

Generally I only eat cooked sushi but I decided to be adventurous and try raw. My husband and I came here with friends to get some true authentic sushi that's also high quality. The ambiance was great, very intimate setting with low lights. Our waiter was super nice and did a great job explaining the menu. We ended up getting 2 orders of the "Trust me" so I couldn't even tell you what we had. Overall I'll say I was glad I tried it! Is raw sushi for me, probably not lol
Be the first to ReplyI never ate fish before I came to Sugarfish Pasadena! First
I never ate fish before I came to Sugarfish Pasadena! First of all, ask for Paul as your server if he is working. He is so kind and attentive and honestly has the best personality. The food here is just so top-notch. The hirame is my absolute favorite, although it does sell out! The restaurant is small and always has a wait, but it's cozy and so worth it for the delicious food.
Be the first to ReplyI was introduced to this place for their iconic takeout
I was introduced to this place for their iconic takeout boxes from people I watch on YouTube/other various social media. I was half expecting the food to not be great, I guess I am convinced that when it comes to restaurants like SUGARFISH, food taste usually takes a tumble at the cost of being posh/chic. I was wrong, not only was this place fairly swanky and appealing, the food tasted fantastic as well! It was so good, it actually made some fish I tend to not prefer delicious (sea bream, not a big fan of it previously, but I am now if any place will prepare it the way SUGARFISH does). The box was excellent, and lovely to look at while I ate. I would've saved it and taken it back with me on the plane if I had enough luggage room. I was originally going to pick this up and eat it back in bed in my hotel room while I watched YouTube, but there's a nice little center area outside of this establishment to enjoy this meal, and it was too inviting and I was too hungry to wait to drive back. I kind of prefer it instead of dining in. The restaurant itself is on the slightly smaller side, and seemed chaotic from how packed it was. Multiple families with tons of kids were there, did not seem like it was worth it at that specific moment to dine in. I'd love to visit again, and this time I will try to bring it back into the hotel room and eat it in bed while watching YouTube!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing sushi place.
Hand rolls are insanely good (same quality as Kazunori), and food comes out very fast. Prices are great too given the quality. Can get extremely busy.Hand rolls - all of the ones I've tried (toro, salmon) are amazing.
Be the first to ReplyTried sugar fish with no expectations and left content.
It's a cool concept but nothing stood out or was amazing. Opted to share a Nozawa Trust Me and it was a nice snack (for 2 people) for when you're kinda hungry but not trying to be full. Maybe I'm just an idiot but I couldn't confidently determine which fish was which when looking at the photos but pretty sure we ended up guessing them all correctly lolWe followed the directions as to which dipping sauce is for which fish, I liked the salmon the most. It was fun to eat but I don't think I'd get this again and would probably opt for something like Kazunori at this price point
Be the first to ReplyBig fan of Sugarfish here.
Although this isn't as busy of a location as some of the others ones in LA (like Santa Monica or Marina Del Rey), I've found that they're really slow here. Staff has been so-so. For expensive prices the service should be stellar. However the sushi is incredible
Be the first to ReplyDelicious as always! We always go between lunch and dinner
Delicious as always! We always go between lunch and dinner and practically have the restaurant to ourselves. We got forgotten at the end of our meal because I wanted more to order, even though they were like 5 servers and only a few tables occupied. Staff was constantly on their phones taking selfies Food was on point though so 4 stars deserved.
Be the first to ReplyFish is always fresh and delicious.
My boyfriend & I always enjoy the Nozawa Trust Me and we used to love going to this location. Because of the ambiance and the easy street & garage parking. Unfortunately, our last dining service was a let down. We felt very rushed by our waiter and server and didn't digest our food well before moving on to the next course. It was kind of awkward with our waiter waiting & standing beside us, waiting for us to finish our last few bites. Never have I ever encountered a dining experience like this where they just wait beside you, waiting for you to finish. Food did make up for it though, just wish that they could be more patient. And it's not like we took super long either since each course is only a bite or two.
Be the first to ReplyI've previously come to this location and was pleased
I've previously come to this location and was pleased however knew I would have a problem when the hostess scanned me head to toe when I entered and was told that after I told her what I wanted she would check to see how long the wait was. (I was dressed casual but nice.) I explained that I wanted a Nozawa Trust Me to go and would like to substitute a couple items. She told me they didn't substitute. I told her that I always had before. She said they didn't substitute when customers came in. I asked if I should order through the App because I saw that you could that way. She didn't believe me so I showed her. She went to ask another woman at the back of the restaurant (this woman really avoided eye contact with me) who didn't come to speak with me. The hostess came back to say again they didn't do substitutions. I told her I would find somewhere else to eat. No attempt at customer service at all. No offer to let me order a-la-cart, which they offer. They were not busy and had many open tables. Clearly the new Anglo front of house staff do not like to serve Ethnic people. This used to be a really nice and inclusive restaurant. Bad experience.

The environment and interior is so nice! We got their Trust Me menus and shared between 2 people, it's a nice option if you want to try the different dishes and don't know / can't decide what to order! There is not active wait line online, so make sure you go early! We had to wait for about 2 hours on Friday night, so be prepared to shop around downtown Pasadena as you wait! Service was very nice, and food came relatively quick after ordering! Overall a really good experience and great food, I would go try their other locations!

There was a bone like this (multiple) that got stuck in my teeth and made my gums bleed. I usually love sugar fish and this has never happened. Be careful!!! I had to throw the rest away!
Be the first to ReplyThis place isn't exactly a family friendly restaurant
This place isn't exactly a family friendly restaurant because they do not offer many options for kids. The menu for kids is limited to a bowl of plain sushi rice, or unagi, which comes in two pieces of sushi. Unless your kid can eat raw fish or be satisfied with a plain bowl of rice, this isn't the place to take your family. Otherwise, this is a great place for sushi lovers. The sushi here is yummy! My husband is a picky sushi eater, but he enjoyed every dish we ordered. I would come back here without kids.
Be the first to ReplyThe best sushi spot around Pasadena and always a great meal.
If you haven't had sugarfish before, it's one of the best sushi spots you'll have without having to spend $150+ per person for omakase.Highly recommend the trust me nozawa which usually is the right amount of food if you're hungry and a great variety. My wife and I did the $60+ meal and is was way too much food, where it got to a point where the meal was unenjoyable so don't order too much. I would also not suggest ordering a La carte as that's not how the restaurant and menu are set up. As the title suggest, trust them! Fish is high quality, the nigiri has the right amount of rice (not too much), and the overall ambiance and style is very authentic to Japan. While the sushi chefs may not be in front of you, the ambiance is very intimate. Cannot recommend this location enough. Staff has always been great and it makes a great date night spot. The wait times can range from 15 min to 2 hours so be prepared on when you go (I.e. Saturday night). It is first come first serve with no reservations and the inside is fairly small (would not recommend coming with a large group over 4-5). Excited to eat here again soon!

You don't need pics to describe the Authenticity of SugarFish, i lived in Japan so I aware of the difference between western fusion and the original. They just saved me a trip to Japan for my sushi craving. The menu is simple and precise. If you haven't tried it yet, you'll never be able to understand the difference, no pun on US sushi because I do love both but it's always good to the root of the source and taste how it all started! Another great thing is they bring it out freshly made as it comes so you can get the warmth of the rice and crisp of the seaweed at first bite, soo worth it

Jesus H Christ! The sushi here is amazing, my wife and I went after waiting 10 months (she was pregnant), god this place blew us away, I still day dream about how good the sushi is, we will definitely be back soon

--- their email is pasadena@urgentsushi.LAThey respond very quickly for any issues -- I had an issue with my Postmates delivery and their team called me so quickly!----- Sugarfish's quality never disappoints. Like others have said, the fish literally melts in your mouth.I ordered to-go on a Saturday during prime lunch time and it took about an hour. 5 stars for packaging and taking Covid precautions. If you're thinking about eating outside here, do it! They have such a nice patio and truly spaces the tables a good 6 feet apart unlike some restaurants right now. The only thing I'm knocking off a star for is that if you like ginger. It's 25 cents for extra. Cheap but still given the price of this place

Tables so close to each other that you feel like you are in a Paris bistro. Fish is good but the rice on the nigiris were falling apart and were warm. I've eaten sushi at all levels from Urasawa to cheap buffets and never encountered such badly made nigiris. The rice would fall apart the moment you touched them with the chopsticks. Also the rice on the hand rolls were worse, they were hot.
