You know when you sit down for dinner and you're hungry? And then you have to wait for someone to take your order and wait for it to be made and that's another 30 minutes before you can expect any food? That's not the case here - sit down and you immediately get shown some trays with small plates and if you want it, it's yours (plus you don't have the uncertainty of wondering what these purposefully oversimplified menu descriptions mean and how they translate to the dish). It's a fun place - a bit noisy but I'd definitely come back with a group of friends for a fun night of eating and sampling the dim sum dishes that come around. Honestly forgot it was a 1 Michelin star because it doesn't have the stuffiness of a Michelin - it's just super lively and fun.My favorite dishes were the fried garlic bread with burrata and the duck liver mousse & almond financiers. The burrata was super creamy and just went really well with the fried bread. The duck liver mousse is also so smooth and the almond financiers I could just eat on its own (weirdly I found these more like cornbread than almond financiers). But 50% of the dishes were missed for me. The smoked trout dip that's raved about by other reviewers was way too acidic for me (also surprisingly had a hint of spice), not sure if my dish was just off but we literally couldn't finish it and just ate all the chips. The pork belly 'salad' was also a bit bland, it needed more sauce, and I ended up taking the plate and pouring the fish sauce over it.The steamed egg tofu was too gelatinous in texture and paled in comparison to good egg tofu dishes I've had at Chinese restaurants. And somehow the chili oil didn't integrate well with the egg tofu for me. The mushrooms on top were nice though. The CA state bird with provisions was good - excellent crispy exterior and very tender quail meat - although not necessarily mindblowing. Sourdough sauerkraut pecorino & ricotta pancakes were solid if you're a fan of cheese. I don't like the flavor of cheese which was very prominent in this dish, but my boyfriend was fan. Also surprisingly reasonable price for a restaurant of this caliber - came out to $55/pp pre tip (and we came hungry and left full).
