St. Elmo Steak House Beech Grove Reviews from The Last Year
Top-notch service and food every single time.
This place never disappoints. Started with the shrimp and their famous cocktail sauce and everyone enjoyed a fperfectly cooked filet. The old fashioneds were great, too. Go here!

Old school that is way too cool! Recommend by friends and very satisfied. Got a nice table in one nine dinning rooms. We had the shrimp cocktail ( a classic and a must), and steaks . Good wine selections (2019 Barolo is a hit): a petite and the chop steak. Desert was a fantastic cheese cake!
This was an exceptional place.
The famous shrimp cocktail was delicious. It certainly packs a punch! That horseradish is on POINT! The service was darling! You must make a reservation very early. They do have a limited amount of bar seats and tables in the bar available on a first come-first serve availability. Make sure to ASK if a bar table is possible. Bar is set for 1-2 people parties. It is possible to get a 4 top table at the bar, but do not count on that unless you go early. Plan AHEAD and make reservations. Worth the planning!
Food was extremely disappointing.
Decided to go for the $150 tomahawk steak and it was absolutely terrible. No flavor and chewy. Only taste was the charing-which was fine, but NO other flavor. We ordered onion rings with our meal and those also were flavorless. The ONLY good tasting food was the rolls and the mushrooms we had with the steak. Cocktails were good and the service was exceptional....but will NOT return as the food was terrible.
Food was amazing.
Shrimp cocktail is a must try and don't leave without trying the crème brûlée. Service is always amazing too.
As usual St.
Elmo's was up to its outstanding standards. My wife and I hosted two of our sons and their wives. We all dined on wonderful steaks and two of us decided to add a delicious sauce. The service was impeccable and they compted our daughter in-laws dessert as it was her birthday. I also used the valet parking and the attendants were very respectful and responsive. All in all a very pleasant experience.
100 percent a must visit in Indy.
This steakhouse has been around over 100 years and the food and atmosphere shows its history, and its dedication to the customers. Our server was wonderful and kept checking in on us to see if we need anything- he's been working there for over 20 years! The history at St. Elmo's is very prevalent. You have to order and try the famous st Elmo's shrimp cocktail. It will leave you speechless!! All the steaks are fantastic.

I've been here twice, both times I was in town for work and went with several people (the restaurant was chosen for us). I had filet mignon both times, and it was ok. It was cooked well, seasoned well, but the cut had chewy and "sinewy" (is that a word?) pieces in it, and I don't think filet is supposed to have that. The other items are just ok. The rolls were hard, the mashed potatoes were pretty good, and my wedge salad was decent. But I'm not a fan of navy bean soup or tomato juice and they give you an option of these with your meal. At the end of the day you're paying for the history, location and the cool building, but I think for the price you can get better food other places. I wouldn't go back if I was choosing a steakhouse myself.
Let me start by saying if this was a regular restaurant
Let me start by saying if this was a regular restaurant with medium to medium-high items I would have rated this higher. But at $125 per person they could and should do better. The shrimp cocktails that they are known for were very good. Spicy ( heavy on horseradish) was very tasty. At $18 an order they were appropriately priced. The bread rolls were great -although we asked for more and they never came. I was in the mood for prime rib but the waiter told me the rib eye was better so I had the rib eye. I understand that you need fat on the cut for taste but this was about 30% fat. It was certainly tasty but it was pricey for that much fat. Should have been a leaner cut. The potatoes were very good as was the green beans. Service for a high end restaurant should have been better. Empty/used plates stayed on the table making the table feel very cramped. Again, high end restaurant this should not happen. Total bill for four of us with four drinks ( -sangria and three domestic beers) $545. A lot of history here and probably something that you need to do once but I think Eddie Merlots is a much better value and experience.
Best Shrimp Cocktail in the World
Best Shrimp Cocktail in the World. Unbeatable. Service was just as amazing! Would highly recommend that all visitors to Indianapolis pay them a visit.
St Elmo was great as usual!
It was excellent and Duck or Ducky I can’t remember for sure was excellent. The temperature of our food was perfect also.
Decent Meal
Three of us dined here on a Sunday night while in town on business. This was recommended due to history of restaurant. We had reservations ahead of time and were seated promptly. There arent any appetizers options beyond their “famous” shrimp cocktail. Of course we tried it and the cocktail sauce certainly clears any sinus issues. All of us went with their dry aged steak options and the sides are a’la carte. You can choose the lobster bisque for an up charge and it was good. The steak was good but certainly wasn’t in my top 5 steaks I’ve ever had, maybe not even top 10. My friends agreed with their steaks. We tried their blueberry bread pudding for dessert which was ok. Service was good and the drinks were decent. $650 for three was a steep price for an average meal. Would go elsewhere.
Great Shrimp Cocktail.. but there were issues.
The shrimp cocktail was the best I've ever had. The cocktail sauce.... you have to have it to understand. The steak was average for a top end steakhouse. Wasn't bad, wasn't great. I had the aged Strip. Others in my party had the filet, the regular strip and a ribeye. There were six of us total. The atmosphere was great. Service was great until....the bill came. First time the bill was brought out, there was a charge for a $49 pour of bourbon I didn't order and didn't receive. I pointed it out, the waiter apologized. The second time it was brought out there were 7 steaks on our bill, when we only had 6. Again, I pointed it out. And it was corrected. There are two possibilities... either it was intentional or it was a mistake on our servers part. Either way it's not good, $140 worth of overcharge. It was corrected and the server wouldn't make eye contact with me when he collected payment. One shouldn't have to dissect the bill to ensure they are not being overcharged. Not what you expect at this type of restaurant, or really any restaurant.
Fantastic Steak House
This is one of the best steak houses in the country, and certainly the best restaurant in Indianapolis. The food is great, the drinks are strong, service is superb and the setting is very nice. Go with the 8 ounce filet, onion rings for the table, and chocolate mousse pie as a shared dessert.
Exceptional!!
St.Elmo far exceeded all expectations I had. Both the food and service were exceptional, and this is a place that I will always come back to. If you are anywhere near Indianapolis you need to make sure you stop her.
A must when you visit Indy! Plan ahead, make reservations!! My husband said it was the best steak ever! Shrimp a must!
Wanted to chose a special place for my 70th birthday!! Didn't dissapoint! Joel was a great waiter and all the staff are top notch!!
Great place in Indy
Great food!! Everything came out just as we ordered. Wait staff were friendly and knew there menu, was disappointed that noone circled back around after food was almost gone to ask us how we were on drinks!! Other then that, we all had a great night and very good food!

Great food, and superb service! We had dinner with our volleyball team, and enjoyed the private room dining. The lounge is awesome and great for any celebration. Best steak and shrimp in town.
Great food
Must have shrimp cocktail!!! Be ready!!!! The steaks were phenomenal. Cooked perfect. Service was top notch. Definitely coming back again
Use to be great.
Such a disappointment - the first filet was so overly seasoned it was inedible - then the next two were cooked well done - so sad! They did take the filet off the bill BUT so disappointing.
Excellent steak!
Great experience, server was Mark. Shrimp Cocktail had a kick as expected, filet was tender. Would return the next trip to Indy!
A must go for dinner
St. Elmo is an Indy staple. A must go for dinner. The food is amazing. The staff & management are even better than that. Enjoyed the food, the atmosphere & the people.
Birthday celebration
The food is amazing! Phillip has an amazing personality. The ambience is so great. My favorite restaurant in the city! Phillip or Glenn are the best in the business at waiting on your table.
Had better food at El Rodeo in Speedway
I had shell pieces in my mouth from the oysters Rockefeller and had to spit it out. Was not offered a comp. Crab and shrimp was rubbery and crab mac and cheese was very bland. Shrimp cocktail,, Asparagus, mashed potatoes and creme brulee was good.
Great time
Great food, ambiance, and fast service. Love attentive and kind servers.

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

I have a similar question, it seems like when money is refunded it doesnt go immediately what is the process of this since its essentially a debit card and not a credit card
