St. Anselm Brooklyn Reviews from The Last Year

Fantastic from apps to mains, to dessert, everything was great. Great to sit at the chefs counter and watch the magic happen.
This place was amazing.
Philip gave us amazing service and tended to our every need. I will certainly be coming back here. Food was amazing. In addition, it's a nice laid back place.
Best meal we had in NYC.
Get the spinach. All of the steaks were amazing. I've been to someone the big time steakhouses and this is my new recommendation. Group of 8 had this place on our first night and every place on our 4 night trip paled in comparison. Great service. When the server tells you to get a less expensive steak, I have major respect
This was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life.
My (now) parents-in-law and (now) husband and I came to St. Anselm before they were going to Italy the next day. We enjoyed a HUGE steak and my husband was smart enough to get himself his own steak as well. The sides were delightful and the wine and drinks were out of this world.

We came here for Father's Day and the food and service was excellent. I normally don't order Caesar salad but decided to try. I'm glad I did as it was one of the best I've had. Another standout on the meal was the season dessert. It was macerated strawberries with cookie crumble and basil. It had to be my top dessert of the year so far.

45 minute wait for the worst service Ive had in my life, almost 300 dollars not worth it, change those servers....
This has become one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn
This has become one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn and I have been here many times. We always make reservations a couple days before. First off I LOVE the butcher's steak, I've ordered this so many times, it's buttery, salty and always cooked to perfections. They have the best creamed spinach and fried potatoes over all the other famous steak houses in NYC. Any vegetable side we try is always great. Last time we got the carrots with chimichurri and they were so tangy. I tried the salmon special and the chicken on occasions and they were both very delicious. But at the end of the day, I always go back to the steak. Last but not least all their desserts are amazing, cheese cake, pineapple upside down cake, and last time was a toffee pudding that was to die for!
By and far the favorite spot we went to in NYC.
The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. The prices are very affordable given the level of food that was provided. Our group split everything from the steaks, to the salads, to the dessert and appetizers. Not disappointed at any corner. They have a great selection of wine to boot. If you are looking for an incredible spot for date night or group eating then this is a must.
We paid a lot of money (100's) for bone.
No meat in the axe handle rib eye. Chicken was good. Way , way too much for what you got and it wasn't that great. Sides were good.
First , THIS IS NOT A STEAKHOUSE!!!!!!! Nope.
It's just another local bar with mediocre food . At two visits (first with my friend) we tried the hanger steak the NY strip and both were UNDERWHELMING , just whatever you can get in Costco and grill at home . The large prawn was ok. The lamb chop was pure fraud .... You order 25oz and you get maybe 10oz of actual meat .... Rest are fat and bone . The meat ? Too salty and just fair . Great mash potatoes and flat bread - THE HIGHLIGHT!!!! But what's mostly annoying is the misleading information regarding their ribeye steak (supposedly their IT item...) On their website they will mention $4.5 per oz (so you can assume it's up to you to decide the right cut) But at their restaurant menu oooppps .... it has to be a cut of between 50-70oz (depends on the day) nothing less and that's what you can get , in the visit it was 62oz , you can't make a reasonable tasteful ribeye at that size . Service was good & friendly and as mentioned it feels like another local restobar. Again THIS IS NOT A STEAKHOUSE!!!!!!! AVOID!!!!!
Very limited menu.
Nice indoor and covered backyard eating area. Service was nice, friendly and efficient. Just wish they had more of a menu because there was literally only one thing for me to eat and I left starving,
This place has really gone down hill.
Steak was too chewy, service was terrible. Dont think I can go here any more.
Brick-walled institution in the heart of Williamsburg,
Brick-walled institution in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn serving up spectacular steak and seafood. Incredible old world ambience and can't say enough of their impeccable service. Overall just an incredible spot to dine in. St. Anselm is most famously known for their signature Angus Butcher's Steak so if it's your first visit, this is the absolute must on the menu.

The cooks table was great - got to see how busy they were and how they handle it. Butcher cut was amazing- highly recommend it. The prawn was perfect as was the wedge salad & bleu and the pan fried potato is more than enough to share. Restaurant has a nice cozy and settled feel. Went to celebrate my son's 16th birthday and Gabe our waiter was the best you could ask for. He made us feel welcomed, and ensured my son had a night to remember- the chocolate mouse was out of this world. I would drive from Buffalo there again to just eat there!!!
TLDR: A great steakhouse at an affordable price.
We started out with the garlic steak, and at 34 dollars per person this was an amazing deal. I recommend getting the peppercorn sauce on the side, as well as the mashed potatoes. If you have any space for dessert- the cheesecake is a must!
Wonderful steaks!
Stellar service, wonderful array of sides and our steaks were delicious. Cooked exactly as we asked and very good sized portions. Extensive wine list. Only draw back is the restaurant is a bit noisy, other that, a great place in all respects.
A group of friends and I decided to stop by here for lunch
A group of friends and I decided to stop by here for lunch on a Sunday - we had reservations for 12 pm and they were really nice about us being late (we did call in advance to let them know that we will likely be late). For the weekends - they do have special items on the lunch menu which we appreciate. The menu itself is not too big; focusing on a few key items. They are a wine and beer place so if you are a cocktail fan this likely isn't the place for you. It was very rustic vibes with really nice staff. The majority of us got the steak and eggs which was absolutely delicious. The meat was super tender and the potatos were nicely seasoned. For sides we got the Spinach Gratin which was nice and creamy and also the pan fried mash potatos which were also delicious - so crispy and hot. For dessert we all got the affogato - they used regular ice cream instead of gelato but it was still delicious nontheless. Overall good food and really nice staff here; would recommend checking this place out if you are in the neighborhood and in the mood for steak!
Took myself on a solo date and ordered way to much but
Took myself on a solo date and ordered way to much but would do it ALL AGAIN! No regrets. As I sat at the bar dining alone, I took some notes of my experience in the moment and have copied them below for you to enjoy: - Berkshire pork: perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The right cut of meat with just enough fat that literally melts in your mouth - Avocado & orange salad: the perfect non lettuce based salad to break up your heavy meat meal. Citrusy, light but balanced - Butcher steak: perfectly cooked, well seasoned and delicious with every bite - Pan mashed potatoes: steaming the entire meal, the perfect amount of garlic that isn't overkill - Wine: light and slightly sweet, paired well with everything and didn't kill my wallet at $13 a glass - Pot de crème- dusted with salt to counter balance the sweetness. Staff recommended and totally the perfect way to end the meal - Casual, relaxed Brooklyn vibe. Intimate but not stuffy or claustrophobic. The type of place that everyone in the open style kitchen wears a ball cap and has a mustache. You trust they know how to fire a steak or change the tire in your bicycle This was a killer meal and the service was awesome and just friendly enough. I could rave about this place and highly recommend you make a visit yourself. 4.9/5
Solid steak with good neighborhood vibes.
Reasonably priced. The sides could be improved or more flavorful.
+.5 for service A recent search for off the beaten path
+.5 for service A recent search for off the beaten path steakhouses showed this result in Williamsburg. The reviews looked good, so my family decided to give this place a try during our most recent NYC trip. Ambience is kinda dark and screams hip. Feels more like a local hangout dinner spot as opposed to an institution wanting to achieve Michelin stars. My dad wasn't hungry, so we opted to share two steaks: the NY strip steak and the butcher's steak. We also added an order of coutneck clams. The butcher's steak was the best steak-price ratio I've had in a long time! For $34 you get a nice angus beef quality steak of decent size. I actually found the butcher's steak to be better than the NY strip, but that's my opinion. The clams were average, nothing too crazy in terms of taste and what was added inside. Service was excellent here. Was it the best steakhouse I've been to in NYC? That may be pushing it a bit, but that $34 butcher's steak is easily the best steak deal one can have, and I'd totally come back just for that.
Best hanger steak I've ever had hands down.
Their take on a lot of dishes was unique and tasty: - grilled kale caesar salad that gave the salad a bit of char flavor and softened the normally tough texture of kale, then topped with anchovies, - pan fried mashed potatoes that were crispy on the outside and still very fluffy mash underneath, - apple cake a la mode which was a nice spongy bready cake version of an apple pie Other good dishes but not necessarily noteworthy were the grilled scallions and clams. Star of the show was definitely the perfectly cooked juicy hanger steak. Would recommend overall as a date spot, though service was ok, just not that friendly or inviting.
Fantastic steaks.
Really good place for casual night out. Good choices on menu but all 6 of opted for steak - it was fantastic with some really good sides. Only 2 could manage dessert. Good atmosphere.
