My boyfriend and I walked here on Saturday night for date
My boyfriend and I walked here on Saturday night for date night. We walked in around 645 and were able to get two seats at the bar no problem. It was busy but cozy at the same time, loved the upscale deco diner vibes. All the food was very solid. I wouldn't say anything was AMAZING but everything was solid and we will definitely be coming back for a consistent reliable meal. We ordered the fried olives, duck gnocchi, chicory salad (too bitter the ratio was a bit off), sourdough (it was served cold which threw me off lol), oyster (yum!), dessert. Can't wait to come back.

I found most of the food we ordered overall to be enjoyable and would recommend Sorella for their delicious pasta dishes and excellent service. Our server was friendly, attentive, and had excellent knowledge of the menu. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also warm and welcoming. There were a couple of dishes that didn't quite hit the mark for me such as the dry-aged beef timballo which I was eager to try but was disappointed by how dry the pasta and beef were. The other dish that I wasn't too fond of was the veal tartare, as the taste and texture didn't quite hit the right notes for my palate. All the other dishes we tried were great. A couple highlights were the crudo hiramasa which was a refreshing appetizer, and the cocoa tortellini was perfectly cooked and the red miso butter paired well with it.

Parking seems like it could be tough in the Polk Street/Nob Hill area, but we were fortunate and got street parking right away. The hostess seated us right away even though we were 5-10 minutes early. The restaurant architecture has a retro vibe but the dining setting is more modern. It works well. The restaurant seems to be a popular date spot as there were many couples seated at the bar. The waitress and busboys were efficient and friendly. For food, we got the meatballs, calamari, dry aged beef timballo, duck, and bourbon caramel semifreddo. I loved all the food, but hated the beef timballo. It was overdone and flavorless. It reminded me of chef boyardee's beef ravioli in lasagna form. It was not worth almost $30. The duck was my favorite. The flavor profiles are spot on and made me think of a nice thanksgiving dinner. I would recommend coming here to try the food at least once, but I probably won't be coming back because of the price point of the food and the timballo. Service 5/5Ambiance 5/5 Food 3/5

I was between 1 and 2, but one of the dishes made my partner and I feel sick which really isn't acceptable for a $150 dinner. Food was super hit or miss. The sea urchin pasta was pretty tasty, but the agnolotti was the worst thing either of us had eaten in years. It tasted like cat food.... the pasta was seriously overcooked, it was in a super bland gravy with tiny diced carrots on the top, and it tasted off (like it was cooked in rancid oil perhaps). The cocoa tortelli was meh. Just super bland and tasted primarily of butter. Service was very friendly, and they took off the agnolotti but we're just really stunned this place has such great reviews. There's so many excellent Italian restaurants in SF. Do yourself a favor and go to Penny Roma, Cotogna, even the Italian Homemade company for good pasta.

I came to Sorella last night for dinner because of all the good reviews. We made a reservation at 9:30 and it was pretty packed. there was a decent selection of cocktails and long list of wines- our waiter recommended an orange one which was so tasty! I was a bit disappointed by the pasta. We ordered the potato gnocchi and short rib pasta. Both were not too flavorful in my opinion, we even asked for some chili flakes to add some flavor. Maybe we should've gotten another pasta, or it was an off night. I did enjoy the service and the atmosphere of the restaurant. Might try it again if I'm in the area.

I read a couple of reviews raving about the squid ink pasta and it was average at best.I really wonder what some of you have ever eaten if this is that delicious to you... It's not bad but it's just not worth the price. Sorry.
Be the first to ReplyService was outstanding.
Waiter was charming. Food beautifully presented but I have to say that it was all under seasoned. Veal tartare was without flavor, sad to say. The vegetables needed salt. The pasta had tiny bits of lobster and was basically tasteless. The malted vanilla gelato was not malted. I expected much more.

I'm always on the lookout for great Italian restaurants, and Sorella is a bit of a hidden gem. We started off with the meatballs, which were incredibly tender and juicy, with just the right amount of seasoning. The marinara sauce was also well-balanced and complemented the meatballs perfectly. That said, the squid ink linguini was definitely the star of the show. The pasta was cooked to perfection and had a unique, slightly salty taste thanks to the squid ink. The sauce was rich and flavorful, with a nice hint of spice. The dish was topped with perfectly cooked shrimp and calamari, which added a delicious seafood flavor to the mix. It was clear that the chef uses high-quality ingredients and puts a lot of care into the preparation of this dish. They have a great selection of red wine and the waiter recommended a nice Chianti, which paired perfectly with my pasta and meatballs. The wine had a nice balance of fruit and acidity and was incredibly smooth.Overall, a great experience that I would definitely recommend.

Hello, gorgeous!Nice entry, welcoming hosts confirm reservation and promptly seated. One menu has food and drinks, and cocktails. The other menu is the wine list. Both are 2 sided. Ergo, a nice cellar.Of course it is, this is a sister to Acquerello, a nearby haute cuisine restaurant. The food menu is classic Italian. And chock full of some wonderful sounding dishes. The web page menu is currently different. What is on offer will tempt anyone. For us, oysters. Such oysters. We ordered another round while we ate the focaccia. Cocktails are great, as are the wines by the glass. Crudo was amazing, veal tartare excellent, sea urchin pasta was the star of the secondi, and the timballo was uber satisfying. There was so much more to enjoy but for another time. Excellent, engaging and attentive service from all staff. Our waiter was great. This place is great.See you again, sister!Enjoy!

Had been wanting to try the sister restaurant to Michelin started Acquerello, Sorella ever since moving to San Francisco. Got to spend my Valentine's day eating a meal here as my first experience at Sorella.First, I'll say the interior of the restaurant is stunning. Long bar, booth seating with warm, twinkly lighting. There was a prefixed Valentine's menu of cured salmon crudo, meyer lemon campanelle, lamb neck porchetta style, and malted tiramisu or pavlova with yogurt sorbet to end with a dessert. Our server kindly told us that we were able to order drinks and that the only decision we had to make was dessert and the rest was to be taken care of. I ordered a Sorella Sour and it was a nice cocktail. A percentage went to charity. We were given a "chef's surprise" which was like a fried potato with caviar -- nice touch. Salmon was really delicious with the salmon roe on top and grape skin. King crab was incredibly moist and soft with the campanelle. Not a huge fan of the lamb, but I really enjoyed the saffron potatoes it came with. Finally, the dessert was truly phenomenal. Probably my favorite part of the meal. Malted tiramisu was so good I couldn't stop eating & the pavlova was a very unique texture! Personally, I wish that we were given the option to order menu items as I was looking to get their pastas mostly, but this was still a wonderful experience. Food was delicious and we were attended to by many -- from our server, to the employees asking us how everything was tasting, to the person who came out with a candle on the tiramisu for my birthday.Would love to come back again to try their regular menu.

4.5 starsFor some reason Sorella completely evaded my radar when it opened, so I wasn't really expecting much when I went there for dinner. But everything we got ended up being excellent - definitely need to go back to check out their cicchetti. We got: Warm Parmesan budino with grilled asparagus, truffle, hazelnut, brown butter crumble ($18) - Don't miss this. I dislike cheese and I still liked this. It's got such an amazing almost panna cotta like texture that melts in your mouth, imparting just the right bit of cheesiness that pairs with the acidic dressing. And somehow miraculously doesn't feel too heavy. Potato leek focaccia ($6) - Fluffy focaccia, good choice if you like to start your meal with bread.Grilled calamari 'diavolicchio' with prawn, scallop, 'nduja sausage, zucchini, mint ($22) - So so so good. I loved the balsamic sauce, and the squid was so tender. The stuffing adding a nice punch of flavor to the squid as well.Bourbon caramel semifreddo ($15) - Desserts here are pretty pricy - this was tasty but something about the texture / flavor of the semifreddo was too rich and I ended up not being able to finish more than a few bites. Portions lean on the smaller size here, luckily I wasn't too hungry but would err on the end of ordering multiple dishes per person next time.
Be the first to ReplyGreat menu selection, I would say this place feels more
Great menu selection, I would say this place feels more like an "new-italian" type of place (very unique menu).Starting off with when would be a great time to visit Sorella:This place is very aesthetic and would make a great date place or a small group type of dinner (they have most seatings between 2-6 people). We made a reservation because it's a new place that would get booked up pretty quickly. I went with a group of 3 and we love trying different types of food so we primarily shared all the dishes. Now let's talk about the food:Rize Up OG Sourdough -- We started with the sourdough because we were starving. The dip was delicious and the sourdough was also good.Kusshi Oyster -- I personally didn't eat the oyster, my friends did and they said it was good but a little small.Egg Yolk Tonnarelli -- This was probably my favorite dish. The dish wasn't too fishy despite having uni & caviar in it. It was really well balanced and made for a great app.We weren't too excited about the secondi, so we ended up getting 2 primis. We also get the Short Rib Anolotti and this was the dish that ended up filling us up.They have an interesting alcohol selection so we ended up getting different cocktails. Overall, the food was good and it was pretty obvious that the wait staff was pretty new. They made some sharp jokes and dropped some utensils on my friend.

Service was horrible. They were more interested in turning the table than in a good dining experience. We expected better from a Michelin rated restaurant. Food was average. Our waiter was rude. Nelson was the only nice person in the bunch. Not going back and certainly not recommending

Spent the last couple of weeks in San Francisco, and I am sure glad I went to Sorella.Everything about the experience was perfect. The service was excellent, they answered everything, made incredible recommendations and did not steer us wrong. Super attentive. The food was wonderful. Everything was delicious, but the English pea cappellacci was our favorite. Short rib agnolotti was pretty rich, but very tasty. Budino was a highlight as well. Finished off with a great amari flight. We will return.
Be the first to ReplyService was 1st class and the space is very nice.
It was packed and it wasn't too loud. Love red every dish other then 1 dish. Overal ten flavors are refined but a bit subdued. Would come back and sit at the bar and order the peas pasta which was truly epic
Be the first to ReplyBiggg fan and so so delicious.
Lot of vegetarian options and really good plating/ambiance. I got the spring pea (with miso and poppy sauce) pasta and LOVED it. Portions are small but that is what it is at nicer places. I got the mezcal drink and it was great. The bundino appetizer was a table favorite as was the potato focaccia.

Wow!!! Get the anchovy toast, stuffed chicken weeks and the short ribs dish! Insane!! The kitchen is beyond efficient- everything shows up in a timely manner and served to perfection! Jayson, our bartender, was the best! Inspected the wine glasses and pulled any flawed. Blissed out! My 2nd home.

I would like to start of with the service which is why I am even rating this restaurant in the first place. I have strict dietary restrictions and I ordered the only thing on the menu that didn't have red sauce. Unfortunately they gave my food accidentally to the table next to us. This would have normally left a bad taste in my mouth, but the staff rushed to make the situation better!! They comped my meal for me and brought me out some alternatives that were palatable for my allergy. I feel very happy with my experience here as people make mistakes, but its the customer service that really makes up for it!! I would recommend the Short Rib Agnolotti. So good!
