Be the first to ReplyRhett tasting menu was amazing as well as the service.
I'll be going back most definitely
Be the first to ReplyIt's perfect and they never disappoint.
Give them all your money! Elegant, thoughtful, delicious. I go here for my birthday every year. The service alone is worth your money! So attentive, so gracious, so generous. Chefs kiss.

this place was so cute! my bf is vegan & i live in little tokyo, it's located down the street inside the little tokyo mall. parking is 2 hours, & they validate.the only thing is we went on a saturday night & didn't make a reservation. so we had to wait around 30-40 minutes. the lady at the front was very sweet & could tell she wish she could seat us sooner. the have a certain that doesn't allow you to see inside the restaurant, so the mystery was cool.we walked inside & the vibe was everything. sabrina claudio was playing in the background. the server was so sweet! as someone who used to serve, i really appreciate good customer service. we started with the edamame, the truffle ones. so good. also tried the truffle mushroom & shitake tempura - so delicious! my bf got the dynamite roll & sweet "orange" chicken. he said they "cooked the tofu perfectly" i saw they've been open for 15 years. i wonder if they're family owned but it was a very pleasant experience

Came here for the fixed valentines menu and it was sooo good. Plenty of food and a beautiful ambience! The flavors were so complex and beautiful! Then they sent us home with parting gifts! Take your time and bask in the complexity and how delicious these dishes are.
Be the first to ReplyI've been coming here on and off for about decade.
So maybe about 6-8 times. Almost every experience I've had has been great. The food has never been an issue. However, i was super bummed the other day by making the dreadful 8:45 reservation. Read the other commit below - i guess i am not alone. If you are last here you will be RUSHED the F#%)*#!@% out and pounced on to order every 4 seconds. It is super annoying i brought a lifelong vegan freind for the first time and it soured our whole experience. I made sure to order well over 125 in food way more than i would normally just to make "worth their wild" but they were literally cleaning around us at 9:20. It was beyond annoying stressful and ruined our whole experience. Just have the last order at 8:15 or 8:30 so you are not RUSHING your customers to eat semi fine dining expensive vegan food. Its 3 days later and i'm still upset so i won't be coming back here anytime soon. Congratulations this wacky system has costed a life long fan and a new convert- as i douby my friend will return here adter that experience. Also i want to note that the if you are going to charge 65/70 without drinks for a chef rec meal make sure there is enough food to justify ordering. Nothing more lame than eating all this delicious food then grabbing some veggies tacos across the street because we are still hungry! its just common sense!
Be the first to ReplyWe were here for Valentine's Day.
The set menu was very disappointing. Love this place regularly. The main course was a "fish" and "meatloaf." The "fish" was just a miso'd potato slice. Not even a whole potato. I was expecting some sort of soy product impossible type "fish" but nope just a single slice of potato. The meatloaf was also just mushroom and berries mixed together, it was paired with a "red wine" sauce but it was just cranberry. It was 8 courses total. The last course was a cup of tea and a tiny cookie. Second to last was dessert. One was a miso soup which was probably the best part of the menu. Our total was around 360$ for the both of us, I only had one cocktail he just had water. The set menu was 140$ per person not including tax and tip. Would not recommend coming here when they have a set menu. But definitely give the regular menu a try!
Be the first to ReplyIncredible vegan sushi and it's ALL gluten-free.
Delicious and wonderful concept.
Be the first to ReplyService was terrible.
Food was just ok. Our server rushed us to order because the kitchen was closing soon. I understand getting our order in expeditiously. But he was extremely rude about it and when I asked a question about the menu to hurry up and order he told me to look at the menu . When our food came out we noticed an item was missing . When we asked our server if it was coming he looked confused, walked away, came back and said "oh, I forgot to put it in," in a very 'oh well' demeanor. And since the kitchen was closed it wasn't possible to make it at that point. To apologize for the mistake, a woman brought the 3 of us a complimentary sip of tea to go with the dessert we ordered. It was literally 1 sip of tea in the cup. My advice is if you go, don't be the last reservation (8:45p) of the night because they will just rush you through your dinner. I suggest they stop taking reservations at 8pm if they want people gone by closing time (9:30p). The other staff was nice but our server should consider other job opportunities. The dessert (banana tempura) was delicious. The rest was just ok. We would have ordered more if we hadn't felt so pressured to order right away. But it may not have turned up anyway so
Be the first to ReplyWe visited Shojin in Downtown L.
A. to celebrate my wife's birthday. She had found this restaurant online, and chose it because of its vegan menu. Neither of us knew quite what to expect, and were a bit put off by the surroundings. Shojin is located inside a shopping mall whose exterior is less than welcoming. But once we found our way to the restaurant and were seated, we were instantly transported into a luxuriously appointed, world-class dining establishment. Service was among the best we've ever received. The food was fresh and delicious. Yes, it was expensive...but definitely worth it. We highly recommend Shojin.

Shojin is a vegan sushi spot and it was delicious! There's tons of different options on the menu and we tried a few different rolls and appetizers! Everything was amazing but my favorites were the baked spicy scallop roll and the rock shrimp mushroom tempura! They also have a huge variety of sakes, both hot and cold. We tried their sparkling sake and it was really good!
Be the first to ReplyShojin is an intimate experience.
It doesn't over market itself, but isn't afraid to reveal its true beauty. The kanji paintings on the wall were painted by the head chef (as told to me by the staff)! What more, this vegan sushi is not merely substitute for vegans and vegetarians, it is true food which stands on its own. The atmosphere is very suitable for a few close friends, family, or a date (with whom you have already established a good rapport). The elegance of this meal is befitting for a special occasion. As for the portion sizes and pricing, it befits the food's upscale quality (but not pretentious by any means). On a personal note, I would consider the price modest in comparison to what one can spend on sushi. By the same note, I would come here with a purpose. The only negative point I will make is their website states that they only take card and do not take cash. I ate at their Culver City location, but I did not remember whether cash was allowed or not at that time.

Before reading this review, I encourage you to look at my other posts where you will see that I never post negative reviews. I always find and highlight the good things and generally feel that positive reviews are more helpful, but in this case I need to make an exception. This is food made by people who either don't like or don't know good food. I'm a vegan and a chef. I promise you that vegan food doesn't have to be this lifeless, tasteless, textureless, joyless and just plain awful. We ordered the tasting menu. The first dish was a plain boiled piece of potato with no seasoning and no taste and not even cooked properly. Every dish delivered was not only a disappointment, but an insult to our intelligence based on the description in the menu. I won't go into detail about every dish, mostly because they were all the same lifeless mushy disasters. The only remotely edible piece of food was on the final plate of actual nigiri sushi style morsels, and one was passably edible. I've had excellent vegan sushi at the plant lab. This food all just tasted like sadness and is what gives vegan food a bad name. This is not edible food, and the bill for four people was over $300. Avoid like the plague. You'll thank me for sending you literally anywhere else.
Be the first to ReplyNot a pleasant experience.
Ordered the tasting menu - though I wasn't a fan of several items, I would have still given 3/5 stars to shojin. The service felt overbearing: the host returned every minute and a half to check in to see if we were ready to order.. we felt rushed, especially when there were only 4 other customers presents. Furthermore, it felt very difficult to pay and tip in the presence of the staff.
Be the first to ReplyWent here for a birthday.
Food was delicious, service was outstanding. Highly recommend. My favorite roll was the Secrets of Japan with the Umeboshi plum sauce. But our party enjoyed everything. Tempura banana dessert was a highlight.

Every item on the menu was delicious! Service from the waitstaff was impeccable. Ambiance was nice and quiet and decor is tasteful. Would definitely go there again.
Be the first to ReplyI like this place.
The staff is attentive, maybe too attentive though. The food selection is great. Everything is tasty. The problem I've found is that after eating the food, you start to not feel well. They're vegan, gluten free, don't use table salt, and I forget what else. So they position themselves as healthy. But the last few times I ate there, I felt like crap right after until the next day. And It's definitely the food at Shojin. I believe it's the oil they use, or possibly that they use more than one oil. Or it could be that they're in a mall and probably have a bad kitchen. Either way, the food is yummy but it feels toxics afterwards.
Be the first to ReplyI really do not get the hype -- mostly bland/uninteresting
I really do not get the hype -- mostly bland/uninteresting vegan fare for absurd prices :(I wanted to like this place, but after doing their $50 per person tasting menu w my vegan gf for our anniversary we both walked away feeling disappointed. A lot of the dishes that are supposed to resemble sushi just...don't. The "fish and chips" thing was pretty bland and boring, and the gyoza was just ok. The spicy tuna on rice cracker was bizarre and not cohesive as a dish (the red "caviar" was rly spicy and great tho). The baked hand cake crab roll was by far the thing we ate, and the shojin dynamite roll was decent. The Eggplant 5.0 dish or whatever it's called was just lazy cuisine - just a saucy cooked piece of eggplant on top of rice. How is that sushi? The service here is fine and the sake is good but I don't see any reason to ever return ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ the food just isn't good and is too expensive, vegan or not.

i took my mom to a mother's day tasting here and it was pretty damn good! i have been vegan for 5 years and i have to say the food was an 10/10. it was mostly genuinely great and very very creative, but i unfortunately ate a bag of chips right before going and i didn't get to enjoy it as much. regardless, this place was amazing with great and polite service. and also one of the employees let me know what torch they use for one of my dishes, and now i use it to smoke dabs lol
Be the first to ReplyWent here for my birthday dinner and it was my first time
Went here for my birthday dinner and it was my first time trying a full vegan Japanese place! Listen, I was never the biggest fan of Japanese food and never thought much of it since I could never find anything for me but this place completely changed my mind... Although it was pricey and servings were small, the food was heaven sent. I could not believe what I was tasting it was so flavorful. We got the dragon roll, dynamite roll, secrets of japan, the hand baked crab, stuffed mushrooms, and matcha cake. I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms but had a feeling that the stuffed mushrooms would be great... and they were amazing I didn't even realize I was eating mushrooms!!! The stuffing was creamy, smooth and full of flavor!! The dynamite roll was my favorite and i loved the sauce on the dragon roll.
Be the first to ReplyThis food was pussy poppin, I am not a vegan myself however
This food was pussy poppin, I am not a vegan myself however if I became vegan and was very wealthy holy smokes I would eat there every night. The customer service was wonderful, and the hostess would always fill up our cups of water fast and efficiently. The food itself was wonderful, we ordered the dragon roll, the Dynamite roll, and some others. The food was expensive however it was completely worth it. I would recommend this place to anyone who is vegan and misses Japanese rolls and sushi because they did an amazing job making sushi vegan. I loved this place, and the food was perfect.
Be the first to ReplyFresh, organic, natural, and exceptional.
Atmosphere - calm, quiet, peaceful, clean, and soothing. It is like eating vegan sushi in a zen spa, it's awesome. Diners eat in hushed tones, not out of fear, but out of contentment and because there is a feeling of health and relaxation in the air.Service - fast, polite, with an exceptional attention to detail. My wife ordered a tea blend and asked if it was very sweet. When it arrived and without asking, they brought a small pot of extra hot water just in case it was too sweet for her, she would have the option of adding hot water. That is thinking of the customer and going the extra mile.Food - it is vegan and the best I have ever had up to this point. There is a reason we drive all the way down here and pay all this $ for it.Cons: It is not cheap, great food rarely is. You will be walking out the door at about $110-150 for two people depending on how many drinks and what dessert you decide on. It is a special occasion kind of thing for our earning bracket.
Be the first to ReplyIf you are looking for vegan food, this is a great spot.
Great dining environment. Food was delicious, but service was below average.
Be the first to ReplyI came in with high hopes , the pictures were convincing .
..unfortunately it was lackluster :/ it really tasted sour & old, so did the ramen :/ it had a toilet water broth taste :/
Be the first to ReplyWe arrived at Shojin yesterday at 5:00 pm, opening time.
There were two of us, waiting for a third. They refused to seat us even though the restaurant was virtually empty. We offered to order for all three of us immediately so that the kitchen would not be stressed. They refused and kept us standing outside for 45 minutes, waiting for the third member of the party to come from across town. They weren't rude but indifferent, and disappeared behind the curtains that are drawn across the restaurant entrance to avoid talking to us. It was a very bad experience. We will not go back again.
