Overrated Japanese in Singapore
Terribly disappointed with the quality of food at Shima. Garlic rice was burnt giving a bad bitter taste. Vegetables were over cooked as well. We were so shocked with the food that we left half way while still paying for the full set meal. Not recommended if you are looking for authentic quality Japanese food.
Be the first to ReplyMeat was not nice
This was my wifeโs birthday dinner. We ordered US sirloin stakes by Teppanyaki course. We ordered meat medium rare and medium. But what we ate were overcooked and medium and well done. This was my wife birthday dinner and I didnโt complain. And meat was added a lot of spices and could not taste the meat itself but spices. The meat was not fresh and to cover this, too much spices were added, I guess. The staff were young and not experienced. As such service was not professional.

The sushimi was very fresh but the teppayaki too salty , especially the fried rice. I went on a weekday dinner, not much crowd in the restaurant. But reservation need $150 deposit. Sugguest not to, this will cost the buisness more worst.
Be the first to ReplyNot wheelchair friendly
I made a reservation and I called to confirm if its wheelchair friendly. The person on the phone said yes and told me that with wheelchair, we cannot sit near the fry tables but just normal dining table which I said ok. 2nd time I called again to confirm the reservation and I specifically mention I have 1 in wheelchair 1 in toddler and celebrating birthdays. The person on the phone confirmed with me the dates and times etc but did not say anything about not being wheelchair accessible. On the 3rd time I called again to add one more person to my reservation. Again I mentioned wheelchair and toddler but the person only confirm its OK to add one more person and did not mention anything about not wheelchair friendly. When we arrived, to our horror there is a huge flight of stairs and it's not wheelchair friendly. We were celebrating two birthdays that day. And last min we had to find another place to eat.
Be the first to Replyso so. service not top, meat average
invited for a business team event. red point for the evening, service speed. we were not at the teppanyaki table owing to our setup, yet that should not warrant for the delay in getting main course; waiters were obviously lost at requests aiming to "a la carte" choices in addition to our commonly agreed menu selection. delay to get the appetizers, then endless for mains. which mains, if we talk beef, were quite average. dessert was also non descript. i would actually quite like the often offered matcha ice cream, but the insipid fruits and strange pastries... well... not what I expect from a Japanese restaurant in such a location / price point. top point: tempura and sashimi were really good. should have had the dinner on these rather than the elaborated menu.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday Lunch at Shima's
overall, food is very good, i enjoyed the sashimi and the beef tenderloins, there were a few guest celebrating their birthday and all got a small cheese cake. my family enjoyed the lunch and Sam the chef is a joy to talk to.
Be the first to ReplyBad experience at Shima
I came to celebrate my wife's birthday and our 18th Anniversary. I am prepared to spent $450.00 per pax. Upon arrival and noting that there there is no original Japanese Chef around, I immediately lowered our expectations by ordering a $120 and a $200/- set. True enough, the experience was horrible, Chef talking to one another over the Teppanyaki table. Portions were very little, simple dish like Japanese Fried rice was poorly done and presented. Stingy with local fruits. Nothing was special. A couple opposite us ordered $900/- set for two (I pity them) The total bill we paid was $376/- I ask for a complimentary carpark, was told is only for $400/- and above (What do you think of this?). Complaints was around other tables also. Total time spent 1 hour 10 mins. I would like to say that next time if you are going for pricy Japanese meal and expect good Japanese Chef and food. Call and confirm if a Japanese Chef is serving you, If not, don't waste your time and money. The Old Shima is unlikely to come back again..
Be the first to ReplyDonโt come here if you are looking for a good meal
I visited this restaurant for lunch, my gosh what an experience. I had the set lunch, 75 minutes later I am still waiting for the protein, the rice and desert. They approached me and asked do I have a last order, I explained to the lady I havenโt had what I ordered yet. You want to have a great dining experience please donโt come here!!!
Be the first to ReplyA Happy Birthday Boy
The food and service was excellent and our family had a great time, will definitely be back for more
Be the first to ReplyQuite a disappointment, not the same Shima that I remembered
It has been a long while since I went to Shima. The last time I went was still the jap owner. We were not given the Teppanyaki counter seat as they said it was full, but there were actually slots. Food was very ordinary, esp the sashimi. Will not visit again. Parking at Goodwood Park hotel is very expensive too.
Be the first to ReplyOmakase at Shima
The overall experience was disappointing. We ordered 2 omakase sets and one lamp set. The food is so-so at best, but I would say that it is not worth mentioning. My son who is the foodie (ie he loves his food, and is always very forgiving when it comes to his food) did not enjoy nor finish each dish. The sashimi was so normal, and maybe Donki takeaways are better. We sat at the teppanyaki seat, and the chef was making several complaints to the serving staff on wrong orders delivered. Not at all enjoyable for the hefty dinner (almost $500) that we had. Disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyBad service and air con was not working
Having teppanyaki without aircon ? this is what we experienced. the heat from the teppanyaki cooking area plus the lights with no aircon made dinning unbearable. The staff did not even bother to inform us before that so at least we can dine at another place for Mother's Day. It was supposed to be an appreciation to my mother, turned out to be a very unpleasant meal. Staff was also rude and untactful. The chef serving us told us 'off' by saying that actually he was not feeling hot but our feedback made him felt so. our request for a chair for my 80 year old mom to sit as we were 15 minutes early was turned down fiercely by the manager Sheila. Very bad experience, will never ever patronize this place!
Be the first to ReplyGood Food; Great Service!
We had the teppanyaki buffet lunch and the variety was pretty good for the weekday price. Service by this chap with a pony tail was also great, very attentive and has alot of initiative. Great job!
Be the first to ReplyThis "shima" is a dark dark image of what the real restaurant was 30 over years ago!! Made mistake to enter this
Very very disappointing. Food ....! awful , hardly touched it. Service absolute zero, and offright unpleasant.
