I was expecting something better...
Excellent architecture and design of the restaurant. We ate on the terrace and received excellent service from the waiters and staff in general. The food is tasty, although I suddenly suggest adding at least one more vegetarian option to have something to choose from.
Be the first to ReplySales tax Ripoff
Good food....BUT-.left with a stomach ache....from a very subtle unethical con..the restaurant included the sales tax in an automatic service charge of 20%. When we complained we were told several people notice as well and complain too... and the owners know it's a rip off... but don't care! I have no problem with an automatic applied service charge...but don't rip me off and include the sales tax. That's not service...and it isn't right.. Period. Especially if you know your restaurant is doing that. BTW the staff was apologetic. They refunded us...but concealed the refund by removing a sparkling water bottle charge. That's how surreptitious the process is to please ownership.
Be the first to ReplyVery overrated restaurant.
Very overrated restaurant. The only thing they did well was the steak. Everything else (burger, broccoli as side dish, salad) was very average
Be the first to ReplyOver salted and over Cooked dinner
The interior of the restaurant has a bar atmosphere! Super loud! We had a steak that was super salty and overcooked! The salad did not match the description on the menu! It was drenched in a salty dressing! One of the worst meals I have had in Carmel!
Be the first to ReplyAs good as we remembered
Seventh and Dolores is a special occasion steak house and it is as good as we remembered from our last visit two years ago. Like most fine steak houses, you'll find steak served ala carte, all vegetables and starches served and priced separately, and a red wine list that ranges from $60 per bottle going up to the stratosphere. Please don't bring your unruly children here. They won't enjoy the dinner, and neither will you. However, well behaved dogs are welcome on the outdoor patio. The deceptively named BLT appetizer is a stunner. Thick cut and honey glazed bacon is served on a fried green tomato on a bed of radicchio and butter lettuce. Double Yum! We chose a modestly priced bottle of Sonoma Zinfandel and decided to splurge on the 28 ounce dry-aged Rib steak for two. Our waiter was probably coached to suggest that we could share a much larger 44 ounce cut. Seriously, no normal adult could eat that much beef. The steak was perfectly seasoned and slightly over cooked, but delicious with a bit of that highly desirable aged funky flavor. Two of us could barely finish it. But I gnawed un-ashamedly on the prized bone at our table. The full loaded twice baked potato was delicious. But our side of roasted cauliflower was charred on the outside and raw in the middle. Our veggie was left mostly untouched. A meal at 7th and Dolores is expensive, plus they add a mandatory 20% tip, but it is memorable.
Be the first to ReplyLow grade meat and definitely not worth the $!
Came recommended and we were optimistic. First it was weird, I donโt think there was a female server in the restaurant. We also noticed many open tables when other Carmel restaurants were full. Itโs a nice place, large by Carmel standards. I had first the calamari special. Almost inedible. Then shared the $130 Kansas City Steak with a friend. Both halves were tough, low grade definitely not Prime, low grade meat like youโd get in a another country. Awful. A rip off. Upon leaving no one inquiredโhow was your mealโ, just looked away, and our $600 meal for 3 ( service of 20% added to check) and we were gone. ๐๐ฟNever again.
Be the first to ReplyI will divide the visit to the restaurant into two, the reception and the service
They entered the place and received us really nicely. We didn't know it was a Michelin restaurant. We ordered an entrecote steak and a New York steak. We asked for it to be medium, but unfortunately we got it more done than usual. In addition, the onion soup had a burnt taste to me, in short, really disappointing.

We are from San Diego and we wanted to treat my daughter to an epic four days. We make rustic reclaimed lumber doors and we have been to Carmel By The Sea many times delivering our custom doors but this trip was purely for pleasure and we wanted to find the best meal in town. We found it at Seventh and Dolores. We were there on a Sunday night without reservations and the restaurant was bustling and the manager Rigo Garcia found us the perfect table. We were greeted warmly and told the front desk this was a birthday. We were shown the wine list and told on Sunday night the wine bottles on the list were 50% off so we bought two bottles of a $70 Chardonnay that was DELICIOUS so they were now $35 each. We started with the Focaccia bread in a ramekin with sweet cream butter and it was the perfect amount for the table of four. Our server, Sam, was so attentive and the rest of the staff was amazing. Very unobtrusive and if our water glass went down even a little a very sweet young man would quickly fill pour water glass again. Three of us ordered the 10 ounce filet mignon and it was medium rare plus to perfection. The twice baked potatoes were made with creme fraiche and a perfect pairing to the steak. My son in law got the lamb that he said was amazing as well. Sam kept filling our wine glasses with the delicious chardonnay. When Rigo Garcia the manager saw my daughter receive her complimentary birthday desert he came over and sang Happy Birthday along with the staff. He stayed to talk to us and he wanted to hear about our lives and our business of doors and I thought maybe we were talking his ear off but he seemed genuinely interested. The restaurant was closing in a few minutes and I felt bad we were now there past closing but he said not to worry at all and he said he wanted to prepare something special for our table that was not on the menu. Shortly amazing Beignet pastry was served with two sauces, enough for all four of us. Rigo Garcia said this was a gift to us. We continued to have a wonderful conversation and when we left Rigo gave each one of us a warm hug. We will definitely be back. We were just your every day people yet he treated us like we were royalty. A P.S. is my daughter used their rest room. She told us it was spotless and smelled good. THAT is a sign of great management and an example of an eye for details. We were there September 17, 2023 and cannot wait to stop there again. Everything is locally sourced and yes, this is a little pricey but you get what you pay for. I don't mind paying an extra $100 overall for four people for a meal that my husband calls "the best dinner he has had in his 71 years of life". And we travel all over the world so that is saying something. I review just about everywhere we eat/sleep/recreation so I try to paint a picture and be 100% accurate and there are just not enough complimentary words I have for this place. Plus, if you are nice to everyone here you MAY also leave with a hug! That was very special for all of us.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely a hit!
One of the hits of our trip to California. The smoked Old Fashioned Cocktail is delicious and they have a really good wine list. Our server was terribly nice and looked after us well as did the other staff bringing us our food/drinks etc. The steak was delicious and cooked to our liking. The bread and butter pudding we shared was delicious. The place had a great atmosphere and if I had one criticism it was that it was perhaps too noisy which could be helped with some more soft furnishings to limit the noise bouncing around the walls. However I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion, romantic date or really for any occasion.
Be the first to ReplySomething is missing???
We loved the old Seventh and Delores. Something has changed. The service was meh, nothing special and the food was fine. There is something special that they have lost??? There so many restaurants in Carmel so based on our average experience tonight we most likely wonโt be going back.
Be the first to ReplyPandemic SLIDE !
Not sure what happened to the toast of the town, but others have stated it accurately. This is not the same place it once was. So, take note. It is not rare to find the staff huddled together early, looking like they're going to swallow their own tongues in freight over whatever it is they're talking about. What they are probably talking about is how this place has slid down so very far after the pandemic and trying to get back to what it once was, which was pretty nice. Happy, nice, cozy, sweet, professional (Before) has transformed into Laconic, Glazed Stares, Inattentive, somber. This place for all practical purposes looks like someone told the staff they're going to close if they dont shape up. And that is the experience. It feels like they're trying to take themselves out of quicksand, while trying to also play the part of fine dining. Something is definitely OFF at 7th + D. For sure !
Be the first to ReplyReally good
Prepare to pay dearly. A bit overpriced? Lovely dinner even if freezing cold sitting outside per our request. Had to ask for blanket and heater...not enough to go around though; some people literally left out in the cold. Given we are 2 years into Covid...why aren't restaurants better equipped to take care of us outside when cold?
Warm Cabbage salad ,steak, Portobello mushroom terrific; brussel spouts tasty but under cooled as soften happens. The ice cream sundae an delicious sinful extravaganza. Would go back...but...would hesitate at excessive costs.
Who are they kidding?
The hot spot during Motor Week, but wow! Between the lack of flexibility, the $50 upfront deposit, and the staff not getting along, Mr. and Mrs. Ahn may want to rethink hospitality. On our night, not one customer was happy with their outdoor table. All asked to be moved or left. Mariney the host tried but couldn't override any tables or shifts without a manager's approval. The poor choice or a critical, front-facing role. The food was good, but innovative, no. the price/value on some plates was a bit crazy. We had an oyster that was smaller than a small fingertip. (see pic), menu with stains, view of the parking lot, slow coming from the kitchen, and a mean and angry bartender. I enjoyed the drama, customers leaving, and the angry staff all with my $350 dinner with an included 20% tip and they had already charged my card.

We had a great dinner inside the main room of the Seventh and Dolores Steakhouse in June. Yes, you can eat inside but you need to plunk down a $50 per person non-refundable deposit to reserve a seat. Every socially distanced table was full in the spacious room. There is also an enclosed outdoor tent if you don't want to make the monetary commitment in advance.
This is a steakhouse, so you pretty much know what to expect: big expensive steaks, a wine list heavy on cabernets and red varietals, ala carte veggies and sides, loaded baked potatoes, onion soup, Caesar salad, rich sauces, and calorie loaded desserts.
The BLT appetizer was innovative and delicious. Thick cut and sweet cured pork belly served on a slice of fried green tomato, then rested on a butter lettuce leaf. This is a 'don't miss this" item.
My wife and I shared a 20oz aged "Kansas City' steak. This is otherwise known as a bone-in NY Steak: tender, slightly funky, and delicious. The optional sauces were inconsistent. We didn't care for the pink-tinted 'bรฉarnaise aioli', but the more traditional peppercorn-brandy sauce was more to our liking. Honestly, the steak is served well-seasoned and doesn't need a sauce.
The kitchen hit another winner with the creative "blistered broccolini" that was served hot, perfectly salted, and with nearly crunchy florets. Yum! Our cheddar and truffle scalloped potatoes were more traditional but tasty.
The service in this fine-dining restaurant is subdued and professional. We also saw the head chef tour the room and discuss the meal with every table.
The wine list quickly climbs from reasonably priced to astronomical for those looking to impress.
This was the best meal during our week in Carmel. Reservations are absolutely required and there is a 20% mandatory tip added to your bill.
Inside is wide open for seating
We ate here this past Monday. Very lively, inviting and we sat inside at the only available table. Staff very attentive, drinks solid and food great.
Be the first to ReplyPoor value for price
We were looking for a warm and inviting steakhouse experience. In order to make a reservation online you have to put down a $50 per person deposit. We got there, and both indoors and outdoors were extremely cold. We asked for the warmest spot available, and they stuck us in a corner outside where we were not even inside the tent, in a very dark corner. We switched to indoors, but were placed in front of the open door. I would have liked some kind of heater indoors as well. My sea bass was excellent, but I paid an insane price for a crab bisque which turned out to be a terrible crab cake with a rammikin's worth of puree around the bottom. Also the atmosphere in the restaurant is cold and austere. Not impressed, will not be back.

Definitely not the same experience during the pandemic. We waited almost an hour for appetizers and a half an hour for drinks to come. How long can it take to get wine and glasses? They changed the menu. Everything sounds great but when it arrives it's greasy and misses the mark. We tried most of the appetizers. The salads were drenched in dressing. The steak is still excellent though there's nothing else on the plate. You think they could throw a few vegetables on there. I get it with the minimalism but really? The desserts were beautiful but the taste fell short. I'm not sure what's going on with the menu. The fried calamari, tuna tartar, and maple bacon were just terrible. There were eight of us and most of these went untouched after the first bite.for service was just terrible but I think it's because there weren't enough waiters. The waiter was very kind. We won't be coming back for any business meetings there.
Be the first to ReplyHad a lovely meal outside
During the pandemic, restaurants can only serve outdoors and this steakhouse created a lovely atmosphere in a tent they set up behind their restaurant. I am grateful they enforced the statewide mask rules when guests got up from their table for the safety of their staff and customers, which made me feel safe eating out. Food was delicious!
Be the first to ReplyDonโt Patronize until they go back to the way they were
We love this place - until now. Several issues to report. First they are mask Nazis even to people with breathing problems and cancer. Second they added a mandatory 20% tip which only 35% goes to server! Third you canโt sit at bar. Fourth the manager on duty is a jerk when one brings their concern to his attention. Fifth the menu is limited. Not worth it.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic menu, great staff
