Schweizerhaus Wien Reviews
The place for pork knuckle
Located within Prater Amusement Park, Schweiserhaus is Vienna’s most popular beer garden. The traditional restaurant is renowned for its pork knuckle and beer. There is an overall convivial atmosphere to this place, with a fun vibe that makes it the perfect place to meet up with family and friends. On my visit I ordered the pork knuckle, however, as the minimum weight is 1 kg, I shared it with someone else. Craft beer is a must. I ended the meal with Viennese apple strudel. A very enjoyable experience with great food, beer and friends!
Best Schweizerhaus Stelze in town, a great place to dine and drink
Went here one evening in june as I was introduced to this place by a local. I got a god impression from my visit at this famous restaurant at Prater. We ordered this famous Schweizerhaus Stelze and was not dissapointed. Combined with a great athomasphare and company this was an evening to remember. Not very pricy I believe also. Would like to recomend this place to you if you want great food an good beer.
Always great
We've been there twice for dinner while in Vienna. Restaurant is always very busy, but you can always find a table even for a bit more people. Service is quick and good, food is really well prepared and delicious and you can really enjoy the local environment. Beer is also very good.
Ripped off
Great food and atmosphere. We had the pork knuckle and really enjoyed it. However, some of the staff working here are scumbags. I went to order another beer and the waiter added two beers onto our receipt. He said, "One for me, one for you". We should have left at that point but we were having a good time. When we went to pay, he added another beer onto our bill that we hadn't ordered. He said it was "for the pork knuckle". That was two extra beers that we were charged for that we hadn't ordered. We were taken advantage of. Be wary of going here. We can't have been the first people they've ripped off like this.
If you find yourself attending the Prater Amusement Park in
If you find yourself attending the Prater Amusement Park in the Vienna area, you should consider stopping by this biergarten. There is plenty of outdoor seating, but it was relatively packed when we went. The servers were relatively friendly, but it did take a while to be greeted, and it took close to an hour to get our food. The foot was tasty, but wasn't overly flavorful. The menu has a wide variety of Austrian/German delicacies that are relatively affordable. The patio seating was well lit, and the atmosphere lively. This is a spot where you could unwind from amusement park activities with your family, friends, or even a date. Some tips: These are healthy portion sizes. If you have big group pick a number of different dishes and share family style Cheers!!
Great Biergarten in Prater Messe
Schweizerhaus is a large beer garden located in the Prater Messe district near the Wirtschaft Universitat campus. I would recommend reservations because this place is always busy and it is tricky to find a table, especially for groups of 3 or more. Their specialty is a huge pig knuckle which looks tasty but, flying solo there was no way I could knock one down by myself so I stuck with bratwursts, pommes, and lots of beer. The sausages were cooked just right and the sweet/spicy mustard was exactly the right accompaniment. The beer was also first rate and worth the visit on its own. I visited 3 times while I was in Vienna and each visit was great. Interestingly, on my final visit, I only had 3 beers and didn't order food and the server refused to accept a credit card because I didn't order any food. My German is a little rusty so I didn't pick up on everything that was said but that notwithstanding, I will definitely be stopping in again on my next trip to VIenna.
Vienna Schwein Haxe
Actually, we were looking for the Schwein haxe. So, this was the only result which google offered. Any way the atmosphere is festive since it is in beautiful Prater Park. Sitting outside in the three shades give it a wonderful feeling and the stuff is very quick and friendly. At the end I can say that the skin on the Schwien haxe was perfect, meat a bit overcooked but still fantastic with horse radish and mustard.
GARDEN
It's a wonderful place located in the Prater, in the playground. We went for dinner, the place is huge, they have dozens of tables inside and outside. We waited about ten minutes for an empty table in the garden. The food is extremely delicious, the drink menu is quite extensive, the prices are average. However, the service is very slow, probably because of the crowd. But since the garden, environment and taste prevail, I recommend you to try it.
Unfortunately, it is more of a mass tourism destination.
The room where our table was was very large, rather uncomfortable and loud. When we arrived, we were told which room our table was in and we were shown the way. It was rather an impersonal approach. There were no chairs at our table, so we had to find them ourselves. The menu is so-so...not really good Austrian delicacies. The half-cockerel was deep-fried, the potato fritters were rock hard, the gravy was probably from Maggi and the (homemade) apricot dumpling ice cream didn't give the impression of being homemade. All in all, a rather disappointing evening. Perhaps more for large groups of tourists. What has to be said, though, is that the guys from the service were very nice.
The most unfriendly and arrogant waiter in Vienna
There are so many great restaurants in Vienna. The Schweizerhaus is definitely not one of them. We were greeted very warmly by a member of staff at the entrance and then given a table. We were then assigned a waiter who looked more like a member of a motorcycle gang. Instead of greeting us, he snapped at us and said he wanted to get our drinks first. He then got our food later and served it, but without drinks. When I pointed out the missing drinks, he said it wasn't his table and he was just helping out a colleague. The drinks arrived at some point. You don't feel like a guest here. The food was not of the best quality, the salad had no dressing and the semolina dumplings tasted awful and looked like vomit. This place may have been great 50 years ago, but today the service is unfriendly and incompetent.
racist and disagreable waiter
racist and disagreeable waiter, we regret to have been there. Will suggest to choose another place without any hesitation.
Not served
I wasn't served despite waiting for 30 minutes, they just ignored me. When it started to rain after 40 minutes, they told me sorry, we're closing now.
Catastrophe!
Extremely unfriendly staff!!! The food was good and arrived very quickly, but the service was a nightmare! Our waiter Mr. Robert was grumpy and irritable from the start, but when I wanted to order another drink after the meal I got the answer "No, not until the next round". Excuse me!? That's not acceptable! My group then decided not to order another round, because such impudence really can't be true! We paid at Mr. Bircan's and it continued the same way here too! Very impatient and grumpy - when the card was not held correctly to the card reader immediately, Mr. Bircan rolled his eyes in annoyance. Even though the knuckle was good, we will (unfortunately) avoid the Schweizerhaus in the future - feel-good factor is zero!
Rude, jerky server
In the early evening of April 19, we tried to get a table in the relatively crowded interior. A young waiter seated me at a table by the window, which had not yet been taken, and then disappeared. We sat among the dirty glasses for about 10 minutes, when he came over again. He said that he was not taking the order, that it was not his table, but his colleague's. After a few minutes, his colleague, an old man, arrived and asked in a rude voice how we dared to sit there. We informed him in English, and he said even more angrily that this is his territory and that no one can sit down without his permission. After that, we didn't want to be there anymore and left indignantly. In retrospect, my only regret is that we didn't take the time to call the store manager. Reading the comments, it is not a unique case, they are probably not interested, other guests always come by anyway.
Service staff unfriendly and unmotivated
Food OK. Service staff unmotivated (made us wait 30 minutes for our order to be taken) and very unfriendly (waiter complained because we didn't order three identical dishes at once, but rather each person one after the other. Then he cheekily complained about not tipping enough).
I recently dined at Schweizerhaus Restaurant while visiting
I recently dined at Schweizerhaus Restaurant while visiting Vienna. It's a charming Austrian restaurant and it was an absolutely delightful experience. The pork knuckle was so tender and juicy. It's such a substantial dish that I would highly recommend sharing it between two or three people; it's honestly more than one person can handle, but it's definitely worth indulging in with friends or family. The service was great. The beer really complemented the hearty Austrian cuisine. Schweizerhaus Restaurant is an absolute must-visit for anyone seeking authentic Austrian food in Vienna. I give it 5 stars.
When in Vienna (Wien) you have to eat Wienerschnitzel.
Schweizerhaus is a good location to do that. The sides to the dish in the form of a mixed salad are great as well. Together with a large beer you cannot go wrong. Be prepared to pay cash as cards are not accepted. The restaurant does have multiple ATMs on premises.
