The service? Uneven. Host and hostess lacking in personality and professionalism and were absolutely greeting-free to us. What is that? Not a very attractive or appealing way to make folks (newcomers in particular) feel welcome! We walked in, they were both at the stand, not as much as a good evening or hello popped out of their mouths. We had to speak up first and tell them we had a reservation. Their attitude (ugh!) alone made me want to turn around, walk out the door and give someone else our business. Finally, “I can seat you”. Wow, really? Gee thanks! We had a reservation and there were plenty of free tables, yet, this guy seemed to think he was doing us a favor. Again, so tempting to leave.
But, no, we were curious after hearing so much “blah blah blah” for a few years, and since we had finally remembered to reserve in advance….
The food: well, the waitress who was very friendly and pleasant and could teach the host staff a thing or two about hospitality, asked us if it was our first time and when we said yes, she recommended that we get 2 or 3 plates each. We ordered a total of 5 between the two of us and it was far too much. And because we were already full after the first two dishes, we couldn’t bear the thought of saying yes to any of the specials that came around, one of which looked and sounded almost tempting, but the fullness prevailed. And, why do that anyway? Maybe because some people are suckers, and will go for the extra dish? An interesting way to pad the check which already is up there anyway once you add all those dishes and drinks. But over-eating does not a fun night out make, especially when the food is heavy and super salty.
For example, the scallops, close to outstanding, were not, because they were incredibly over-salted. Why? Trying to sell more alcohol? Awful! At least the accompaniment to those delicious but defenseless scallops was perfect and unique. The swordfish dish was undeniably excellent. The lamb kofte sliders were very good but the buns were too thick and thus overpowered the taste of the meat and also filled us up too fast. The lentil tortilla chips were okay, on the bland side even though there was plenty of stuff piled up on some of them, still, nothing to write home about, but they should have been served first.
In fact, in general, the order of which the plates came out left a lot of be desired. The yellow fin tuna, which came last, almost everywhere in Greater Boston dining establishments is a reliably excellent course, but here it was really unpleasant. I can’t quite pinpoint why, I can only say that it was a bit disgusting.
Far too stuffed to even think about dessert didn't feel like much of a loss, we had looked at that menu and weren't impressed by the very limited offerings.
It’s hard after this meal to respect the place or be eager to go back, and I had really hoped to do both. Clearly the potential is there, and perhaps it was better when it first opened, but they are missing the mark on a lot of things these days, and that’s too bad.
