Sanyuu West New York Reviews from The Last Year
Overall great experience, love every single piece in the
Overall great experience, love every single piece in the omakase. The toppings and seasoning for each piece keep surprise me, truffle oil scallop, yuzu ikura, truffle foie gras salmon . The rice is a bit too soft almost fall apart when piece up by hand, a simple dessert like ice-cream would be a nicer ending. Really a steal for $78, will come back when I visit NYC in the future.
Great place to chill but no ice.
Great and friendly. There is not an ice machine available. I wanted to have ice for an injury I had but that wasn’t possible since there was and is no ice available for guests. That’s a bummer for me. Other than that, awesome. Nice comfy bed, interesting staff, super silent protection from the city sounds…making a good nights sleep possible.
Prime Location, Impeccable Service, Cozy Rooms
I was thoroughly impressed by this Sonder’s exceptional location, impeccable service, and comfortable rooms. Situated in Tribeca, the hotel's prime location made it convenient for exploring the city's attractions. The staff's professionalism and attentiveness enhanced my experience, and the cozy and well-appointed rooms provided a comfortable retreat after a day of sightseeing.

I went to Sanyuu West for bento box sushi and it was phenomenal. Everything was fresh and beautifully packaged. I loved every single piece and it was good on the go. I definitely would order again. I hated that I had to wait till 5 to order but it definitely convenient.
Sanyuu West is an omakase sushi bar only restaurant
Sanyuu West is an omakase sushi bar only restaurant offering unparalleled quality and value for its price point. The omakase offered is a 15 piece set for an astonishing $78 during my visit (12/2023). The omakase from Sanyuu West would be a great gateway for the unadventurous eater as the relatively low price point and quality fish offered are elevated in flavor but close in texture and taste to what you would see at a typical sushi restaurant. My favorite dish from my omakase experience was the toro hand roll and the botan ebi ( sweet shrimp). While this omakase experience was not the most engaging experience with the chef, his expertise in crafting quality nigiri at a reasonable price triumphs all. One thing to note is that they were also able to accommodate several dietary restrictions for other guests during my visit (kosher and no beef) so make sure to inform them if you need adjustments ahead of time. I would highly recommend Sanyuu West if you're looking for a quality and affordable omakase experience in the West Village/Chealsea area.
A very good experience
The property has a modern and nice design. The room is in all respects faithful to the photographs on the website: not very large but well furnished and equipped with everything (there are also iron and board, and a large screen with all the main streaming services). I appreciated that there was parquet flooring in the room, definitely preferable to the unhygienic carpeting. The staff is friendly and helpful; the app useful and functional. Drinks always available to guests (water, tea, coffee, chocolate) and umbrellas in free use. I personally agree with the decision not to clean the room daily unless requested, so as to keep costs down and avoid wasting water and energy. The only negative thing I found was the somewhat noisy heating. Also, the shower (which was nice and large) was dripping slightly. I didn't think this was a big problem, however, and in fact I didn't even inform the help desk about it (maybe if I had reported it they would have fixed it).
Standard room. Great location.
As stated in many reviews, this is an apartment style accommodation rather than a true hotel. There is no breakfast, fresh coffee, daily housekeeping, 24hr attendant, etc. Other than that, the room and lobby were fine. It was safe and this location (Duane St) was wonderful for exploring Manhattan.

My first omakase experience, it was such a great experience, Im not sure what's in each of the courses but for someone who doesn't experiment a lot with seafood, I truly enjoyed and had a great time!!!
Cute omakase spot that was very intimate.
Great experience as a couple! $78 pp for 15 course meal. Dungeon crab - refreshing appetizer Hamachi with chive- my favorite so flavorful Seabream Tuna with chive and daikon radish Medium fatty tuna with crunchy garlic- delicious O-toro fatty tuna with caviar- yummy Botan Ebola sweet shrimp- good but very wasabi flavor Hotate scallop with lemon juice and truffle sauce- VERY wasabi flavor Salmon roe- meh, quite salty Amberjack fresh ginger and chives- yummy Uni- yummy like butter Salmon with foie gras- delicious Unagi- good and standard. Large piece of eel Wagyu- good Toro hand roll- great taste and ending to the meal! Staff was extremely friendly and we were full at the end! Was definitely a great experience here. We ordered 4 additional from the a la carte.

They are so sweet here! They had a private party the night I wanted to order takeout and still accommodated my order. The food is also AMAZING. Totally worth the price with such a good choice of ingredients. You can tell they put a lot of thought into their menu. I ordered the to go kaisen box.
This is a real gem.
I love that it's just an hour, because who wants to eat for hours on end, and just 78$ for the omakase (such a good deal), and it's just all different fish (none of the other random stuff that usually comes in an omakase like chalawanmushi) Of course I'm going to like Toro and Uni and Botan Ebi. But even types of fish that I don't usually like as much (Madai and Shima Aji) was prepared in a way that made it delicious. And even the seasoning in the Ikura was wonderful (instead of just being straight up salty, it was clearly cured in a lightly yuzu-flavored, slightly but not overwhelmingly sweet soy sauce mixture). They also didn't go over the top with the toppings. Just a bit of citrus zest and sea salt for the scallop or a small brush of soy sauce with a thin thin shaving of truffle. It lets the fish shine. One very small gripe is the foies gras mixed with salmon is a bit intense and the flavors/textures compete for attention. I think they should be separate, though I suppose that would increase costs. Another tiny tiny gripe is I think the sushi chefs could say a little bit more about the toppings and where the fish is from etc, etc.,. I always had to ask and I got great answers, but it's nice if they come with explanations by default :)

Pretty good price for omakase that is 15 piece course for $78. All of the pieces were good and I loved that some of it had toppings on top to mix up the flavor. I would recommend this place for anyone who wants to try a new omakase spot.
Food 9/10 Reasonably priced and thick slabs of fish.
Rice to fish ratio is very good. We also got a bottle of sake to pair with, and that worked wonders. My favorites include the Japanese barracuda and chutoro, but honestly, all of the nigiri didn't have any fishiness, I thought they were all relatively fresh. Atmosphere 8/10 A nice little space in Chelsea, a three-sided bar seating with the chefs in the center. Service 7/10 We had to sit for a while before our seating was ready, but I didn't feel rushed eating there.

Fish is so fresh, this is a great omakase spot if you're looking for a more traditional experience. The pieces are presented without much fluff/extras. As with a lot of the more affordable omakase spots in NYC, the seating time limit is 1 hour as they seat new rounds at every top of the hour. So, it will be a bit more rushed. Prob not the best place for a date or longer catch-up session, but great just for the sushi itself!!
Terrible business model - theft
The Sonder organization is terrible. The hotels are fine, but I have used them for both business and personal travel (a total of two trips). On the second, personal travel, I had charges for the room added to my corporate card that was on file for my previous business travel (buyer beware - they automatically charge any card added to the app). I called three times to have the charges changed from my corporate card to my personal card and each time they said they were doing it and never did. In the meantime, they charged both cards. Now I have paid the fees twice and no one from Sonder will help me. I am filing a case with the Better Business Bureau. Good luck, folks.
Great priced hotel!
Great experience and it was a very clean and quiet hotel. Good location and 1 block from subway. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Big room for NY. Overall a great stay, good restaurants near, Odeon, Square diner and Bubby’s!! Thanks!!!
Great place an at incredible price
Incredible place at an amazing price. Excellent gym! Great location with lots of cafes in the neighborhood and super nice staff in the building. Our room was bright and clean. We had no complaints during our stay. Would love to come back here.
Literally a better way to stay they aren’t lying
Amazing service for a great price. Seamless experience all around. Free coffee in the AM was super clutch and every staff member we encountered was super helpful. Only complaint is that the locks did not always work with the mobile key and sometimes had to manually type the code. We were moved from another Sonder location in Gowanus, Brooklyn but the A/C unit in our room was broken and rest of the building was full so they upgraded us to this location in Manhattan as well as gave us a $50 refund credit for transportation costs. Truly a delightful experience and will definitely be staying with Sonder again. For the affordable price the service we got was outstanding.
mixed feelings about this hotel
I am not sure what I think about this Hotel as it feels more like an AirBnB and not a classic hotel. Reception is only staffed until 10 pm. You can get all the ammenities you need like toilet paper, shower gel, shampoo etc in the lobby in a storage closet. the rooms are spacious yet didn´t feel very clean. The bathroom tiles had heavy stains on them and the drain in the sink was clocked (room sevice should have noticed that prior to my arrival) the room will not be cleaned during your stay. while you have enough fresh towels a short sweep through at least every 2 to 3 days would have been nice. The area of the hotel is good and conveniently located. I didn´t like that you couldn´t open the window at all. sometimes you need fresh air. I understand that they are scared of people jumping out but you can block the window so it only opens a tiny bit. the aircon was hard to handle and no matter which temperature I set it to it remained the same. You can´t beat the price but I think my next stay in NY will def. be in a proper hotel with all the hotel ammenities.

Ask a Question |
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
